The fire sprinkler leaked during the night soaking the top half of the bed, construction started nextdoor at 7am with loud jack-hammering and the TV connection stopped working at night. Was very expensive on that particular night, and was the worst hotel experience I have had to date.

Room was very expensive and extremely poor value for money. It did not look like at all like the images presented online. The bathroom was really dated, tiny, unrenovated and could only be described as basic at best. There was no cleaning serice for our 2 night stay. It was in the midst of a major renovation.

I enjoyed my stay - live music and dancing in the hotel and vibrant nightlife all around. Actual room was sub-par (on previous occasions, it has been much better). Bathroom tiles were literally mouldy on both walls and floor. Window sash was broken so almost took my head off when I opened it and it crashed shut. Shower was very hard to get right - boiling or freezing and wouldn't stay at set temp. while water pressure was really poor. Otherwise great. Comfy bed, pleasant staff, great food.

Great location and cool bar downstairs, unfortunately everything else was a shambles. Sound travelled through the rooms so if you are staying on Fridays or Saturdays, dont expect to sleep until 2am. (No mention on Expedia listing of late night club).

The room was dusty and dated, bathroom drain a little smelly. Possibly preference but bed was uncomfortable, to soft with no support. No duvet cover, only sheets around the duvet which wasnt clean. I don't expect much for budget but this place didnt get any of the essentials right. Wouldn't stay again and personally think the rooms are not fit for purpose on club nights.

Note: cant fault staff, they were all friendly and respectful.

Unfortunately, the room had a strong chemical odor (new carpeting I was told put in during the pandemic) and was also musty/mildewy. Left the following morning physically ill. The manager on duty tried to help, but he had no real options. If you have any sort of allergies, this is not the place for you.

The hotel location is superb right in Surry Hills, walking distance to a lot of good cafes and restaurants. My friend and I like being able to walk around and head back up for an afternoon break. The only thing that I think travellers intending to book here is to take note they have a very lively restaurant/bar downstairs and the music got really loud in the evening during my stays (Thursday nights to Saturday nights). We stayed on 2nd floor and right above it so took a while to sleep. If you would prefer a quiet night rest maybe not here. Also if there are better shower partition in the bathroom that will be great as the floor gets really wet.

Stayed in room 216 which has a loft-style layout but with a winding and narrow wooden staircase. I'm unsure why I was allocated this room when it seemed like the majority of other rooms were vacant.

There's no water connection upstairs, you need to trek up and down the staircase just to fill the kettle.

The worst thing about the stay was how many things didn't work or weren't provided. I wasn't given bath towels, only a hand towel to dry myself with. There weren't any hotel staff clocked on when I discovered this at 8am.

After an earlier check in during daylight hours, I arrived back at my hotel late at night to find out that the upstairs ceiling lights don't work. The two lamps in the room didn't work either. Decided to turn on the TV for background light, it also didn't work despite changing the cord on different power outlets. I had to use my phone torch to go up and down the dodgy stairs to the toilet in the middle of the night.

I gave up and tried to get some sleep instead, only to discover I didn't have pillow cases. Just 4 pillows with the pillow protector slips on them.

Checked out the following morning at 8.30am to find the pub still shut up and in pitch black darkness. No one at the reception desk to hand my key back in, not a soul in sight.

So I paid $240 a night for a room that didn't provide half the bedding, towels, a working TV, any working lamps, or any working lights.

Really friendly staff and great location. I expected it to be noisy being above the pub, but actually the noise levels were minimal. But there were maintenance issues with the rooms - bathrooms felt very tired and in need of refurbishment or deep cleaning; fridges and air con were noisy; rooms overall felt unclean. Room cleaning was an issue - for 3 days no rubbish was removed, and no toilet paper / toiletries replenished. At the end of the day this is affordable pub accommodation, but if you're going to position yourself as elevated pub accommodation then you need to be addressing these things.

Liked: decor, chairs, comfy bed, thick carpet, 12pm checkout.
Disliked: room 216 - very small bathroom with old fixtures. This room was split over two levels with the bathroom downstairs and everything else upstairs. It was inconvenient to go down to fill up the kettle
The upper floor only had one spotlight that worked, the rest were broken. Both bedside lamps did not work, so I had to turn the tv on for some light.

Please update the bathroom and fix the lights!

Friendly staff in reception and bar areas. Room comfy homely feel. Only suggestion a brighter light in the bathroom with little shelf to put toiletries on and better drainage of the overflow water from shower onto bathroom floor. I found it very easy to get to everywhere i needed to. Either by walking distace or by bus. The food in the restaurant was fresh and delish large portions even on the sides. Great price for a central location. Stayed during the week so no noise while i was there, but possibly different on the weekend. I would recommend.

I just stayed overnight in this impressive old Hotel. The building is most interesting with nooks and crannies, a small but functional lift running up the centre of a stairwell, and many heritage features including stain glass windows. The room itself was thoroughly modern, being renovated to a high standard including the ensuite (with WC and shower). Compact but functional, with a comfortable bed.

Awful smoke-filled hotel - Do not stay here

This hotel was awful. I checked in and checked back out 15 minutes later, promptly realizing that although the hotel is listed as non-smoking, access to the hotel rooms requires going through smoke filled stairways. I have asthma and medically cannot stay anywhere with smoke. This was not on the website and I requested a refund which was not granted. I was told a manager would contact me and he did not until I emailed and called multiple times. I am appalled at the lack of customer service and do not recommend staying at this hotel.

I would like to think it's cool but...

I would love to say that the Harry Hotel is great, especially for its central location, its cool vibe and the fact that some of the staff tried hard to make it a good experience... but unfortunately there are some basics that are not working. Before I arrived, I've read the reviews and was concerned about the potential noise from the disco on 1st floor but that was in the end no concern at all.
Initially I was assigned a room on the 2nd floor, in the rear part of the building which was great to avoid the noise except that the wifi signal was poor, the illumination of the room was very dim (I could hardly read anything even with my glasses on) and the bed was tilted to one side so it was not the best first night experience. When I told the staff about these issues, they kindly move me to a new room (this time on the 3rd floor) which was much more illuminated, with a better bed although still with relatively feeble wifi signal but that was an improvement already. The other thing that did not work was the room cleaning. The 3rd day, when I got back to the hotel in the afternoon, the room was not done so I needed to ask the staff to get the room cleaned and go out and about for a couple of hours till they got it done Lastly, around 4:30 am of the day that I was checking out, the fire alarm set off and all the passengers exit the building and wait there until the firemen arrived and gave us the OK to get back into our rooms, but to my surprise there was no one from the hotel.

Air conditioner: black ash like pieces coming out onto the bed, hopefully not more mould
Bathroom: mould everywhere, floor turned into a swimming pool after each shower
Coffee mug: wasn’t clean when I arrived or changed when room was serviced
TV: antenna affected by storm early in the first evening, had no tv for the remainder of the stay (2 nights)
Sheets: stained, don’t want to think about it
Room servicing consisted of remaking the bed (no clean sheets) and restocking the mini bar, no new towels or restock of complimentary items or clean glasses/mugs.
I was only there 2 nights and it was a shame the room was terrible because the rest of the pub/restaurant and staff looked great. Will go back for a drink but will never stay again.

The hotel rooms are nicely done. One room I stayed in did have a two part stair case which was frustrating to have to carry my luggage up to the loft area (main area of the hotel room). The hotel itself is also a lounge / nightclub and it is EXTREMELY LOUD. Honestly, loud music up until 2am some nights. This was very disappointing and certainly did not match what I intended given the price. The noise would be my only complaint, but it was loud enough that I would not stay here again. I am from NYC so I am used to noise, I can see how someone who is not accustomed to noise would be very upset! Other than that, great facilities, restaurant / bar were good, and the staff went out of their way!!

Great for a night out!

My room was upgraded to a suite (sweet!) as I only booked a single but was advised that it could be a little bit noisy being a Friday night - slept right through it once I got back and enjoyed the comfy bigger bed and bigger room. Great base for a night out! Thanks again for the upgrade, thoroughly enjoyed it!

The room made a good first impression being quite spacious and clean. Unfortunately we had a number of issues that'd deter us from staying at the venue again.

As some other reviews have mentioned, there's a club down stairs. Our room was located immediately above the dance floor. For the Friday and Saturday evenings our room was literally vibrating until around 3 AM and it was incredibly noisy. Unless you plan to participate in the night life yourself I'd avoid on these grounds alone as sleep may be hard to come by. Fortunately our third and final night was quieter being a Sunday.

External noise isolation wasn't good either and the traffic was very audible and we had a door 1m from our bed and could hear any and everyone walking past. We can only assume anyone outside could hear us too.

The other issue we had was our bathroom had an open shower. The sink was situated outside the bathroom as was the drainage. With no curtain or door on the shower, our bathroom was flooded with every shower and the room would take about 12 hours plus to dry up in winter. We literally had a wet floor at 10AM after having last showed 8PM the night before. The shower would dry but using the toilet meant standing in water which was unpleasant.

The bed itself was serviceable but I wouldn't call it overly comfortable.

The place has merits and the location was convenient, but noise and a bathroom that was flooded for 2/3 of our stay let the place down.

the hotel is housed in a 1912 building and i just love the whole vibe of the hotel. although a little noisy on weekends the room size is just right but the bathroom is very tight including the toilet and the sink. the ground floor is a restaurant and pub thus the noise but it can be to your advantage because you don't have to walk that far to grab a bite or a drink. the place is also walking distance to a lot of breakfast places and diverse restaurants like nomad, long grain (thai), madam nhu (vietnamese), spice i am (thai) and a whole lot more. it's a short walk to chinatown, japan town, koreatown and thaitown. also to oxford and the central area.

all in al, it was a pleasant stay. i just wish the reception will answer the phone when they are being rung as it is always busy and we would always have to go down the slow-mo elevator or the stairs every time we need anything from the reception.

A surprisingly large room with all the facilities.

The room had everything to enjoy a stay with comfortable accommodation and plenty of the little touches that make the difference. Unfortunately it was unbearably noisy from the music below and sleep is out of the question. I would never stay here again under the current conditions however if it was,nt for the extremely excessive noise it would be a great place to stay and real value otherwise. For anyone who wants to get to sleep after 2.30 then this is for you. And P.S. I do love music!

An early 20th century building with a lot of charm, very lively (read noisy) bar on the ground floor which could not be heard from our room. The room had access to an unexpected outdoor area. Being an old building the water pipes are very talkative and can be a bit of nuisance if you are a light sleeper. All in all a good place to stay which makes a nice break from clinical new hotels with a personality by-pass.

Lovely hotel and excellent staff. The hotel is centrally located and easy to get to whatever you need in the CBD, but the only downside was the noise. The music from downstairs was pumping. Even with ear plugs out was very loud.

All in all the hotel was great and we would book again

A real gem, right in the centre of Sydney

Fantastic location, great atmosphere, updated furnishings - Hotel Harry didn't disappoint. We booked last minute, and were a little hesitant at first, but we'd definitely stay again. Absolutely loved the \"vibe\" of this place, a really fun place to stay with the bar and lounge downstairs. Impressed about the security for hotel guests too - you can't access the room floors without an access pass (loved the old school lift as well!). The room was clean and comfortable, with a double bed, AC, TV, coffee maker and mini bar. There wasn't a lot of privacy with the bathroom door though (gaps around the sides), so I'd only stay with someone I loved!

Hotel Harry is well situated on the edge of Surry Hills and within easy walking distance of many cafés and restaurants. The building itself is full of character, with several bars and an edgy Latino feel to it - a popular spot for the locals. We were there on Anzac Day, when it was busy all day, but I can't say that age has not wearied it! Our bedroom was small and cramped, with inadequate storage space, even though it was described as a superior double. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the room was not serviced on one of the days we were there. So, while we enjoyed the overall experience, we were a bit disappointed overall.

If you like nightlife, it would be quite suitable. Nightclub directly below was noisy, but that's what you get on a Saturday night. The room was good for a pub room and the bed was very comfortable.
Location excellent - very good quieter sports bar just down the road.
Hotel staff were extremely polite and helpful.
No TV remote and no shower curtain.
As always, minibar far too expensive to contemplate.

Great Room And Great Food

We found this place through Hotels.com as we were looking for a simple room for a good price and got exactly what we were hoping for.

The hotel has a really cool old Cuban theme to it, fantastic food and drinks!

Our room was small and simple, but perfect for us, since we were out and about all day and just needed a good place to rest.

At night it tends to get a little loud in the downstairs area, as well as on the first floor, as it is a popular bar and they have DJs playing music. We were afraid that this was going to be a problem, but at check-in we told the receptionist that we would prefer a quiet room, so he put us in one that was on the backside on the second floor. We couldn't hear any noise at all and were able to sleep very well :-)

We would defo stay again.. Staff and facilities were more than we expected. Not the cheapest of places but Sydney isn't anyway. Happy we choose this hotel.

Funky fun a central location

This was a great little hotel to stay at- so chic and close to everything. Value for money was excellent. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I guess the only gripe we had was as we stayed on a Saturday night there was a bit of noise from the bars which made it hard to sleep initially. Beds were very comfy though and we slept very well.

A hotel with two personalities.

This hotel has two personalities. We stayed Sunday to Wednesday. We arrived off a very early flight and the lovely lady on reception asked housekeeping to get our room ready first. After an hour and a half, they called us to say our room was ready, which was brilliant.
Lovely suite with stylish design and features. The hotel is in a great area, lots of bars and restaurants and a short walk to the CBD and opera house etc.
After a nap and stroll, we returned to the hotel early evening and the music had started in the bar (which we were aware of from other reviews we had read) another receptionist informed us the music would stop at 2am. There was a suggestion of moving to the third floor, but there are no suites on that floor.
By 8pm, the music volume increased in the first floor bar and the bass level was ridiculous, we could hear every word to every song. After returning from our evening out, the music continued until 3am!!!
However, on our other two nights the first floor bar was closed, so our room was such a pleasure to stay in.

Club on first 2 floors

There is a club (no, it is not a bar) on the first 2 floors.
Fine if you want to sleep at 2am or 3am on weekends.
Check-out is wrongly listed as noon here. It was 10am.
Staff and facilities (apart from shower area in bathroom) are great otherwise.
Would be such a better place if the downstairs was just a bar and not a wall-thumping-music club.

Good location in CBD.

The room had no wardrobe and there was no soap holder in the shower. It was not made clear in the booking information that there loud music bands playing at the hotel over the weekends, until early into the next morning. The music was extremely loud and travelled up the stairwell and into my room. This was very unsatisfactory and WOTIF needs to state this upfront in the booking information.

Good Hotel but unexpected safety bond at check in

Overall the hotel was good. Friendly staff, fantastic location and clean rooms. Sunday night it was a little noisy from the downstairs venue.
At time of checkin a deposit had to be paid via credit card worth more than the actual cost of the entire stay. A note advising guests of this at the time of booking would be helpful.

Quirky accommodation close to CBD

Nice accommodation and great location. Love the attention to detail and the overall feel to the place. Great bars and food. Fun atmosphere. Will stay here again.

The groom was dark. Bedside lamps not working. The room pervasively stunk of some sort of malodorous chemical. The carpet down one side of the room, including next to the bed, was soaking wet. I had a very disrupted night with the odour. Reception sort of apologised on check out when I commented but the response was underwhelming

Cute hotel with a Cuban feel.

The hotel had a good vibe and the decor was fresh, clean and modern with old world charm. It was within walking distance to everything in the city and the Cuban style of the restaurant and bars was really nice. Staff were very friendly. The only complaint would be that the water from the shower was not contained so the sink area and adjoining carpeted area was soaking wet but that is to be expected in that style of bathroom. A duck board or shower screen would easily solve that problem. Overall, I would definitely stay there again.

Well .....

Hotel is nicely located and clean. Rooms are so small you have to go outside to change your mind!! Expensive for what you get. If you expect to sleep early .. forget it. Noise from the duff duff music in the pub below is ridiculously loud. Ok if just a quick one night stay.

Staff were excellent (including the bar staff). Room was clean.
