Room was average- 2 bed female dorm. The staff was nice. I didn’t like the bathroom situation because it was always clogged and the outside would get wet. The bed was comfortable but I hated that they didn’t change the blankets after each guest. The location is perfect for exploring Sydney, I walked almost everywhere. Pretty kool restaurants in the area.

Check in guy was nice, the room was hot and I learned from my roommate after I left that the AC started working after I left. There was a constant banging sound that I have no idea where it was coming from all hours of the day and late into the night. I told the room service person that I didn't want the room cleaned, and she shoved the door open and put a door holder then proceeded to vaccuum and start to clean the bathroom before finally agreeing to leave and stop cleaning when I requested no house cleaning service.

The staff at check in was great, friendly and explained everything well. But I guess I didn’t do my due diligence to check what kind of hostel this is because it smells like weed at any time we enter the building. Also if you’re an old person and/or wearing hijab, people will stare at you if you walk through the main area so we just use the back entrance every time.
We stayed at the family room with bathroom inside so it is okay but theres no soap i the shower. It did have hand soap dispenser so we used that.
Overall if you know what you’re getting into, the price and location is great but i don’t think this is a place for a family.

The staff is very nice and helpful. They work hard to keep the place clean. However, some guests were not very respectful in the shared areas (dirty dishes on the counter for hours, very loud music, toilet paper everywhere in the shared bathrooms).
The bed was very confortable and I was glad to have access to a big locker.
The hostel is perfectly situated to easily go everywhere on foot or by bus/tram/train.
I would highly recommend this place to solo travellers.

I always take negative reviews with a pinch of salt but definitely should’ve listened to the ones for this place. The first time I’ve ever checked out of a hostel early due to its condition. In dire need of refurbishment, beds are creaky, bathroom is dingy. Only one common room/kitchen which had a TV on all day so nowhere to get a bit of peace and quiet - I also had some remote work to do which was impossible here. Final straw was seeing a couple of cockroaches in the common room. I had a week booked but left after one night. Hotels.com tried to request a partial refund for the unused nights but the hostel manager refused it. Extremely unimpressed, wish I’d never booked it.

Stayed here a few years ago and it was great but now I would avoid it. Cockroaches in the kitchen and rooms, dirty sheets, you can hear the people talking in the corridors and rooms next door clear as day. A male member off staff knocked on the door and entered without waiting for an answer while I was getting changed. No atmosphere at all. When I arrived the first day at 1:30pm I didn’t get a hello, just check in is at 2pm, not the friendliest welcome.

I know I checked in after hours but still there should be a live person onsite to attend to customers. I called the after hours number and nobody was available immediately. Luckily a kind guy reached out to one of of the employees who was actually off duty to help me. The gentleman who checked me in was not supposed to be on duty but was kind enough to attend to my needs.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and made sure that they were always available. Luggage storage is available at the front desk which was very useful, even after checkout. The shared kitchen is fully stocked and the common area is well maintained. Rooms are basic but practical, beds are a good size and linens are provided. Had a great stay in a clean Hostel that is a few minutes walk from Central Station and not far to the Opera House and Bridge.
The Staff were very friendly and helpful and they have a bbq every Friday for $5.
The only downside was on the M floor there is only a disabled bathroom between everybody on the floor.

Lift needs service because it squeaks and bangs all day and night. ‘Continental breakfast’ not given, even if you can get a spot in the one kitchen I saw no tea/coffee making facilities. Tv can’t be switched on as it has no remote, it’s just decorative. Air freshener outside rooms beeped all night long, every 5 or 10 seconds. Not the worst hotel around but still not what was advertised.

Very good hostel in a good location. Room very cosy. Clean. Good kitchen and lounge area. Very busy when I was there. The only drawback was the terrible noise from the building work outside. 2 nights it started at 10pm and went on all night. Jack hammering right underneath my window. The noise was unbelievable. I got no sleep. Hopefully it will be finished soon but check before you book.

Really enjoyed my stay. Staff was friendly and helpful ! Particularly the Dutch guy and cute blonde girl from Sweden. Clean bathroom for the amount of people that used it. I really liked the large common area, great for meeting people. Kitchen was nice 10 min walk to China town, 20 mins to botanical garden & about 30 min walk to the opera house. Close train station and lots of resturants near by. I recommend.

I stayed at the Big Hostel for one night in January. The 12 bed female dorm was clean and comfortable and I had a good nights sleep. I haven't stayed in a hostel for more than 10 years and wasn't sure what to expect. However, I was very pleasantly surprised with how nice it was. The best thing about the hostel was the location which was close to the CBD.

Pleasantly surprised. First time ever in a hostel and decided to book a hostel with family room as we were doing a quick stop over in Sydney with the kids. The room was very clean and spacious. (stayed in a 6 person family room). Location was brilliant within walking distance to everything you could possibly need. Members of staff were very pleasant and polite. I would definitely recommend this hostel especially to families.

Simple accommodation nothing fancy but what more do you need. Hotel was clean Staff werefriendly and location was good.

The check in staff made everything super easy from start to finish. I was barely in the room for the time outside sleeping for 7 hours but it was clean, had it's own bathroom in the room and had a nice common area and kitchen. Literally across the stress from Central Station which makes travel super easy

I was in one of the dorm rooms and everything was basic but clean. They had lockers but didn't inform me I needed to supply my own lock (making for pretty useless lockers otherwise in a room with 7 strangers). The bathrooms were very clean, tidy and it was quiet at night (although I did stay on a Tuesday).
All in all, I paid very little money for good safety and cleanliness, although not amazing comfort.

We stayed with 3 children for budget accommodation The website advertised a \"family\" room It also uses the words \"luxury\" and \"boutique\" in its title but many facilities need updating ie not enough table space for dining room Not enough crockery/cutlery (we had to wait for people to finish to have our cereal !) The roof top bbq was decintegrated and not safe/usable The room had a dank smell so we bought air freshener ! Matresses uncomfortable. The TV in the only common/dining room was playing R rated movies so our children had to leave. It is a backpackers but a lot of backpackers now days are of a better standard. On the plus side the ensuite was good condition Friendly staff and good location Just needs a bit of updating.

Very convenient location for central station, travelling to and from airport and Sydney transport system. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. I witnessed a member of the evening staff trying to help a group who had made no reservations anywhere - even though they couldn't accommodate them.
My room was en-suite very comfortable and clean and more importantly had air conditioning when Sydney temperatures were 40oC !
