The hotel is under new management and in the process of refurbishment. The staff, especially Annie the receptionist, were delightful. Happy, accommodating and friendly. Our room was clean, spacious and well serviced. Once the refurbishments are finished this will be an even more wonderful place to stay. In the center of the city and close to shopping and eateries - perfect.

Disappointed paid $250 for king bed with tub…no tub, no cafe, no bar, no room service. Changed hands a few months ago and old owners took everything apparently. No microwave or toaster in room, just a kettle. Extremely basic for the high price. Was great to have a cup, teabag and milk to have a cuppa. Room was clean & bed comfy but very overpriced

The rooms were a good size however the property had a terrible odour. The shower broke in our room and although reported it was not fixed as was a broken toilet roll holder. The room lighting was very dark and insufficient. Location was ok for what we had to do, the staff, when available were helpful. Would not stay again

The hotel was older and more worn out than photos (which I assume were taken in their remodel in 2016). My bed was not changed once in 10 day stay. Towels were replaced but not always with correct number, trash was taken out but bathroom was never cleaned or floors swept in those 10 days. Room smelled almost of bug spray. Staff at front desk was sometimes there but frequently missing. When I needed a missing towel or bottle water I did get it replaced after asking. Parking was free but limited and tight parking spaces. No real on site dining but places that were walkable. It would be fine for a night or two but would not recommend for a longer stay.

Very convenient location, shops are in walking distances and close to the airport.
The A/C unit in the room was quite old and struggling to reduce room temperature.
The water pressure in the shower was quite low, they may need to look into it and fix.
Breakfast may not be available on public holidays.

Clean and tidy accommodation with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were very helpful and polite. Only downfall was the on-site car parking. It was difficult to park a larger car in the allotted spaces available. Appart from this, my family and I found the Clarion to be a great place to stay in Townsville.

The location was great, staff very friendly, however the bath was dirty (had a black ring around it) the shower gel container was empty, the basin was dirty and there was only one bath towel for 2 people.

The bed was extremely soft so we both woke up with sore backs.

There was noone at reception when I arrived at 1630hrs had to wait while there were no other guests except me on a friday. The staff was unwelcoming and rudely declined my request for a late check out stating we are not a fancy hotel where these options are available. Secondly the bathroom was poorly designed as it sipped water into the attached toilet area. There isn’t adequate parking available for a medium sized suv.

My only complaint is the Outside private Car park it's very unsatisfactory if you're in a big vehicle trying to get out.
You will notice vehicle's have scrapped against the building previously

We were disappointed that the Greek Restaurant was closed for refurbishment - which was the only reason we stayed here rather than down the road.
Knowing that it is now going to be an Italian smorgasboard style place - we won't be back.
The parking area was too small for the size of cars in the area.

Nice central comfortable hotel

We stayed for one night and were pleased with the location, amenities and nice friendly service. The room was well set up with a foyer area that had a pod coffee machine and sink. The aircon worked well, there was a large TV, and free Internet.
The beds were very comfy and overall it was spacious. They do need to improve the lighting tho, it was very gloomy in the main living area over the table and desk. There was good lighting at bedside but even a free standing lamp with bright LED bulbs would fix it for the rest of the room.

This place is one step above youth hostel. The man at the reception in the evening was the worst employee and should be let go. How can I NOT help you? Should be on his calling card. He actually seemed annoyed that he had to look up from his phone. Please note there were no hairdryers in the rooms or to borrow from the front desk.

The Caring Clarion

I have loved the Clarion since my very first stay, a couple of years back. I consider them to offer a high level of customer service provided by the on Duty Manager/Reception and overall quality of the hotel and the spacious rooms/design/layout. This is why it's one of my favourite hotels in Townsville and why I keep returning. I always choose a bath also.. i like them so much that I wouldn't submit any negative feedback online but would rather notify them in-house. There is none by the way... It's also convenient having an adjoining restaurant with Greek food and branded coffee.
The only thing I will add is for them to please bring back the cleaning product that had a sweet cinnamon type fragrance that reminded me of a Christmas fragrance.. it's preferred over bleach 😉.

Private off street parking is a bonus but the parking is very tight if you drive a larger vehicle like a Land Cruiser.

We booked this room specifically because it had a bath - that didn't work! Television is set to maximum 20 volume so we could hardly hear it! Car parks both below and above ground were a joke to try and park in so ended up leaving car across the street. Trying to get suitcases from above ground car park was dangerous due to the very steep entrance. Road noise was heard in room as was noise from other rooms. Hall outside room was very dingy and poorly lit. Have cancelled our future booking. Requested full refund but hotel manager Jesse refused it.

This place is a hidden surprise. Recently refurbished, it has a modern and up to date feel. Staff were amazing. At check in, they even walked outside with me to show me where to park and the best place for dinner. I'm really impressed and will be back again.

As always the staff are very welcoming, the rooms are well appointed, spacious and have little extras (like complimentary coffee pod machines in the room), the location is very central to the city area and the gym entry across the road makes it without peer if you wish to work out.

Nicely refurbished room and good reception staff, however the cleaner must be an amateur. Got to room at 4.50pm but despite being later in day, the entire corridor from elevator to room was littered with dirty towels and laundry plus vacuum cleaner & cord strewn all over the place with no sign of cleaning activity anywhere. Room was mostly clean though no coffee pods and sugar spilt throughout container. I know all this could have just been an off day occurrence but still compared to other venues it was somewhat off-putting.
