This was our second stay with Gabriel and his wonderful staff. It will not be our last. The main ingredients to a great stay, in my opinion, are a hotel in a safe area, a clean room, and a shower with hot water. Check, check and check.
The hotel is in a great location with a relatively easy walk from the ferry terminal. Its just far enough away from the \"main avenue\". You are around the corner from a convenience store, shops and eateries. Beaches are all a short walk as well.
A really nice \"extra\" at the hotel is the available Tommy Bahama beach chairs. Please take care of the chairs. Don't over stuff them a this will hurt the zippers and carrying straps. Most important, learn how to fold them. Tommy Bahama chairs are folded up by standing behind the chair with your feet on the bottom bar while pulling up on the top bar. There is a youtube video if needed. This way future guests can enjoy this amenity as well!
It would be better if the management had \"chair cards\" like their \"towel cards\" providing better accountability.
There are a few types of rooms available at this little gem including the basic room with fridge up to a suite off sorts with kitchen. There is also a community type kitchen offering superb coffee, (I'm not a coffee drinker but my wife is and she loved it).
Rooms are spotless complete with safe and fridge.
Prices are creeping up and I hope they don't go further.
If you want a no-frills clean hotel this is it!

We enjoyed our week stay at this hotel. Our room was small but the shower was nice, plenty of hot water, mini fridge and AC. The hallway table and chairs allowed us to play cards and enjoy a drink with other guests. The main level had a large kitchen and dining area to enjoy a simple breakfast. Coffee is provided in the morning. We stored our fruit, juices and groceries in our room fridge and assembled our breakfast in the communal dining room. Beach chairs, beach umbrellas and beach towels w/ deposit are available on a first come / first serve basis. The hotel is very popular with expats. The location is central and within walking distance to both beaches. Staff is friendly and accommodating. I hear that the rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor are better than on the main level. The Suites have a mini kitchen and more windows.

The hotel's location is central but quiet. The suite was clean and comfortable. The wifi on our floor did not work on the first evening of our three-night stay, but functioned without problems afterwards.

My favorite Hotel on Isla Mujeres!
I had an amazing stay at this hotel. It had everything I could possibly need. Affordable price, WiFi, Clean Room, Towels, Hot Water, Friendly Staff, and located right next to the beach. Very calm and local vibe. I would rather stay here over an expensive all inclusive resort any day of the week.

Hotel is located on the quiet side of downtown and one block from the east beach. It's a bit noisy when people are socializing in the common spaces downstairs, but the youth hostel amenities make up for that. Love the chairs you can take to the beach and bring back and common space kitchen. We'd come back here for sure.

Good wifi on first floor but room smelled musty
Wifi is good on the first floor but gets weaker as you go up. We spent our mornings drinking coffee on the third floor terrace (there is one table with two chairs) with the view of the turquoise ocean in a distance. Full size fridge and stove top make it ideal for longer stay.
However, every time we entered our senior suite we were confronted with a strong musty smell, definitely from the damp wooden cabinets. Few small cockroaches in the bathroom, not surprised as this seems like a common issue on the island. Few mosquitoes in the room, I suspected I got bitten by something inside the room or on my bed that swelled up really big.

3 Roaches
Looked clean until they sprayed bug spray to kill some ants and 3 roaches ran out and died.. I complained and was told nothing can be done it’s just how it is on the island, then they refused to refund the 3 remaining nights, so I booked somewhere else and left and lost the money I paid for the other nights.. glad they got paid 4 Nights for me staying 1 night. They need to get rid of the roaches and the lady at the front desk who thinks roaches in a hotel is OK..

room is decent and clean looking .. good location 10 min walk to the beach .. had ants in the room ask them to spray, after he sprayed bug spray roaches started coming out in all I saw 3 or 4.. 3 of them died I have a pic of the dead ones.. when i complained they offered nothing not even a sorry and I was told it’s just the way it is on the island, then finally she offered a new room .. it was the same exact room right next door .. Not good enough I told them I wanted a refund for remaining 3 days on my booking in which they refused telling me I have to call hotels.com which was impossible cause of corona virus, i showed the owner the pics and asked for a refund on remaining nights he declined, then I asked him to come to my room at which point he offered a nicer upgraded room.. the lady seemed uninterested and like it wasn’t a big a deal at all .. I left with 3 days paid and not refunded and booked another place for next 3 days

Upon arrival at the hotel we had a friendly greeting right away and our reservation was waiting for us. Check-in was great! Given the key to our room and we walked up the stairs to find it. Walking into our room our first impression was wow is it clean! The shower was great and so nice and bright in there. Nice and bright room overall but because the windows face out to the open areas where other rooms are we kept some blinds closed for privacy. The hotel itself is partially open to the outside on each floor which makes it feel open and airy. Noise does travel and we didn't hear much from outside but more from other guests at night if they were talking loudly while sitting outside their rooms. Nice place to stay and close to walk to the main street and the beautiful beach.

They provide beach towels, shampoo, soap, mouth wash and lotion. Location is great - close to Playa Norte, restaurants, shops, golf cart rental place is next door. Will stay here again. The only issue which everybody mentions is the toilet not working properly but we were aware about it.

We came back to our room one of the days and the housekeeper was on the phone on our beds clearly in the middle of cleaning our room. It didn't look or sound like an emergency she was laughing and just hanging out pretty much. Seemed a little unprofessional in my opinion. Other than that, it was a really great hotel. Really wish the front desk had a map or some recommendations for us as well. But I mean we explored as much as we could during our time there.

First visit to this property, but not our first visit to Isla Mujeres. This property was at an excellent location from the ferry terminal (six blocks) and from Playa Norte aka north beach (seven blocks). It was an easy walk to both, and nice restaurants were within a three block walk. Everything in the hotel's description is what they provide: clean rooms, beach towels, pleasant staff, and a pleasant experience at a good cost. We wouldn't hesitate staying here again.

We stayed at fancier hotels before arriving on Isla Mujeres but decided on this 2-star hotel because it had better reviews than the ‘better’ hotels on the island. Our room had everything and more and everything was brand new - A/C, fridge, fan, hair dryer, safe. The kitchen downstairs is modern and convenient and you are greeted with coffee every morning. They provide pretty beach towels AND beach chairs for a nominal deposit. Amazing! The best thing - it’s on a quiet strip of the street. Downtown Isla Mujeres is small, and very touristy - lots of bars and restaurants with loud music. Be very careful and read the reviews when booking any place. The places on the rocky side of the island tend to be quieter than those on the beachside or in the interior streets. The beach is still lovely, despite the crowds.

Perfect location for town and beach! No frills but super clean, spacious, air conditioning worked well on hot summer night. I appreciated that they had soap dispensers on the walls by the sinks. Great budget hotel if you don't have a need to spend a lot of time in the room. Beds were hard which some people tend to like. If you need soft sleeping arrangements, perhaps not the right budget place for you.

Great location and great customer service. The rooms you don’t want to get stuck with room #1. The lobby can get super loud in the mornings with people checking in and out or the night at night people knocking because they forgot the main door key. Overall the staff is very helpful. My check out was at 11am but had a late flight so they let us store our bags while we walked around and kill time before it was time to get the ferry back to the mainland.

I have stayed at xbuluha too many times to count. What I truly admire is that at each visit, something has been updated, management truly care for this property. Staff is pretty constant which is also a great sign. Another great stay.

The hotel was very quaint and cozy. I loved my room with the exception of low water pressure for the toilet. Also, I know the rooms are designed to be somewhat communal, so if you are looking for somewhere quiet, you may not want to stay here. I heard soooo many conversations right outside my door. There are tables set up in the breezeway for hanging out. This did not really appeal to me. Lastly after a mixup with Expedia, I booked two different rooms. I was exhausted from travel when a gentleman who did not identify himself knocked on my door to scold me for cancelling a room outside of his refund policy, but I also booked the hotel outside of his refund policy. So I likely won't stay here again.

Had a lovely time at Hotel Xbulu-Ha, friendly staff, great location, overall had everything we needed for a low key, easy stay. Unfortunately, the plumbing was a bit of an issue, perhaps the water pressure was low, both shower and toilet ran out of steam quickly. But truly, such a minor detail, this is a nice establishment!

The hotel was in the middle of town and that made things convenient. It is about a 8 minute walk to the North Beach. The beach you see in the Expedia photo (or what looks like sand and beach is not accessible). The staff was great. We changed to the Master Suite because the bathroom was so tiny. Even though the original room held 4 it was too small. Very basic set up. Good price and free chairs which we did not drag to the beach.... too far. It was all good. Very loud people in the hallways at night up to 3 am several nights. Just people hanging outside their rooms etc. I would probably not stay again and look for something a little bit more upscale. Again it was good for the price.

Great location! Close to the beach, the shops and all the yummy food! Staff was very friendly. It's located right behind Rolandi's on Hidalgo. There's a coffee shop right next door that I went to every morning for my ice coffee. I stayed on the 3rd floor and my mother stayed on the 1st floor. Beds were comfy enough. Shower was good. Toilet would take a few tries to flush but nothing major. I would recommend for the price and location. Enjoy.

This hotel was perfect for me. I loved the location, my room looked over the malecon, about a block away. The room was very clean, basic, modern and well-kept. Really nice staff. I liked the common lounge and kitchen stuff in the lobby. I made my toast there in the morning and there's coffee brewing. I am definitely going to stay here again!

We booked this hotel the morning of as we were getting ahead of the storm about to hit E. Canada... we needed a place for just 2 nights and they helped us navigate this albeit a different room each night! But they did the move for us... our next room was ready super early and when the AC got all glitchy Juan Carlos and his boss REALLY went that extra mile to repair it... the extra mile being a trip over to Cancun that afternoon!!! I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel and would gladly have stayed my 2 weeks here! The loan of beachchars daily.... the location, right in between the best tacos and the best little coffee shop... what more could you want!

This property is close to all the central core as well as the beach. The hotel has a common area downstairs in the lobby which has a microwave,coffee maker,sink to wash your dishes. It provides beach towels and beach chairs for their guests. Great little hotel with lots of returning guests all very friendly! Our room was cleaned daily with fresh sheets and fresh towels! Really enjoyed our one week stay here!

The property and room was very clean and smelled good. They came and cleaned each day, providing clean linens and towels. Juan Carlos was a wonderful and friendly host as were the rest of the staff. Beach chairs were sitting by the door to grab on the way to the beautiful waters and beaches of the Caribbean. The location is super close to shopping and dining,two blocks from the supermarket and walking distance from the ferrry terminal. Has parking across the street if you decide to rent a golf cart, scooter or car. The bed was a bit firm but would not keep me from staying there again. Great value! Planning to stay there again on our next visit!
