Beautiful small boutique hotel in a perfect location right off the hustle and bustle of Playa Norte and 2 blocks from Hidalgo. Ground floor King rooms walk right out to the pool and the beach. Private cove and the most incredible sunrises.

No frills as far as amenities, no restaurant on site, but easy to get food delivered, there is a small pool bar. Staff was helpful, rooms were clean. Overall great, quiet, relaxing experience.

Just want everyone to know not to listen to any of these negitive review about media luna!! Just got home from staying there for a week and it was just what we were lioking for! Ive seen reviews about unfriendly staff or lack of staff. Ive seen things about the beds or the water presure. We went with a group of 8 staying at luna and only 1 had anything bad to say because they had a bunch of sand flees atack sum sweaty hats but the staff was helpfull and moved them into another room. I did see a few ants in the bathroom of my room but i killed them and never saw any again! There was someone at the front desk anytime we passed! The bar tender was at the pool everyday and he was great very helpfull made great fresh drinks would order food delivery for you or anything else u needed! They had kids cleqning the pool area sweeping and moping every morning! We staying in a jacuzzi king and they cleaned our room and left fresh towels every day even making towel animals on our bed!The water presure would hurt your sumburn it was so good! Bed was comfy, The View was worth every penny!! And the location is perfect! Close to town but secluded enought for peace and quiet!! And the best part you pass all the good food carts on the way to the All in all i would 100% recommend this great affordable hotel to anyone! Its obvious after our stay that the negative reviews were mostly from karens that are 2 needy and want a resort not a hotel!! playa media luna is great we will be back!!!!

Our room was infested with sand fleas. The over night reception stated she thought they were as well. We dealt with this for 2 days and all they offered was for a maintenance guy to come sweep them off to the floor and leave a can of spray. Finally on day 3 they moved us at my demand. At check out we found cockroaches. Gross gross gross. The only thing good about it was Franco. The bell boy, the pool boy and the cook I’m pretty sure. He was very nice.

The lobby of the hotel and the room we stayed in were clean, modern and welcoming. The view of the pool, beach and ocean was beautiful. Our room had an amazing balcony with two sitting areas (one for lounge chairs) and a jacuzzi tub - all looking out at the beach & ocean. The pools were lovely for swimming - clean and in good repair. We were disappointed that we weren't aware ahead of time that there is no swimming in the ocean there - and it seemed, on that side of the island. In the photos it looked like a lovely secluded cove to swim or snorkel in, but that's not the case. We were surprised there was no elevator - it was a challenge moving our luggage up and down to/from the 3rd floor on the narrow staircase. The location is a short walk to anywhere in Centro - including Hidalgo St. with many restaurants and shops, and the main Playa Norte beach. The hotel entrance is attractive but kind of on a back street where we were surprised to find it. We felt very safe walking around any time of day. The staff were friendly and helpful but our limited Spanish was a bit of a challenge.

The structure of this property is good, but it is definitely lacking in upkeep.
The room was very spacious (king bed, garden view) but it needs maintenance:
- The door to the room was peeling and the rubber sweep on the bottom was cracked, which made opening and closing the door difficult
- The door to the mini fridge (in a cabinet) would scrape the floor every time we opened it and we had to lift it so as to not disturb the downstairs guests
- The shower head needed cleaning, as it was half-clogged
- The pool had tons of sand on the bottom, which didn't seem to be cleaned at all in the 5 days I was there.

Location is good, close enough to the main strip but far enough to be quiet at night time.
It was an ok stay. Not terrible, but I would not stay there again.

Everything was wonderful! Comfortable beds, plenty of towels and they do have a hairdryer, it wasn’t mentioned! The hotel is set back on a promontory so it was quiet and relaxing. The pool (s) overlooks a lovely seascape, although a short stroll to the left would take you to North Beach for better swimming. A five minute walk out the front door would put you on the main strip for food and entertainment. Live music and street performances were ongoing nightly. Five minutes to the left of the hotel is a nice bike path skirting the ocean. Bikes can be rented for about $12.00 for the day. It’s a little interrupted but we rode al the way to Punta Sur.

Very clean room and nice boutique hotel on the east side of the island. Right on the beach. The water here is not suitable for swimming. But the water is so nice with lots fish in it. We stayed for 4 nights here. Can’t recommend it more. We initially wanted to stay on the strip or playa Norte. Very glad we didn’t. It’s away from the party crowed at night for a good night sleep. My boyfriend did fell asleep on the chair outside the balcony and got so many bite. So if you want to sleep on the balcony. Make sure you spray with bug bites spray first.

My wife and I have traveled around the world. This hotel is without a doubt one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. It is heaven on earth. If you go to Isla and want peace and quiet plus being near town you have to stay here. The owners own restaurants on Isla which are great! Lily at Ballyhoo Blue was such a great hostess and the food and location were exceptional!! Prove me wrong!!! You can’t!!! Will be back soon!!

Luckily it died down at night.The location is perfect, staff nice enough, shout out to Franco,wish the pool was heated but not a complaint. I can’t believe all the positive reviews, especially since it is listed as a 4 star hotel on many sites. This was a ghost town of a hotel, perhaps running a skeleton crew during the low-season?? Staff were invisible and had to be sought out for basic questions, which seemed to be a major inconvenience to them. Check-in was a joke, they swore they didn’t have my reservation then made me look through a stack of papers until I found it myself. The location is great and the pool has potential, but it was so poorly attended that by noon it was FULL of bugs to the point that I didn’t want to go in. There is a pool bar that wasn’t open once in the 4 days we were there. Absolutely no food or drinks available for purchase on site. Other guests on site spent all day every day playing music from their personal speakers and drinking at the pool, so not super peaceful. The room itself was sparse and the bathroom permanently stunk like sewage. Honestly reminded me of a US chain motel. Two plastic lawn chairs on the balcony. Roku TV available but no services or channels provided, so more like an Airbnb than a hotel, and inconvenient considering services like Netflix recognize you’re not “home”.

The location is really all this place has going for it. There are no real amenities to speak of to justify the price or stars.

Highly recommend the hotel next door, which has a lovely rooftop bar and fantastic service even for non-guests. Wish we had booked there.

The road leading to the hotel remained covered in water after raining leaving little area to walk though. Playa Media Luna is a small and lovely hotel that allowed us to relax and enjoy a quiet and peaceful day at the beach. The hotel provided an amazing view of the ocean during the day and night. This hotel is very special as sea turtles come out during the night to lay their eggs at the hotel’s private beach. I was very lucky to witness such an amazing event.

We experienced several cleanliness issues during our stay, including ants in our room, near the coffee area, and in the seating area as well. Upon arrival, we also noticed a roach at the doorway. When we reported these concerns, the younger front desk staff member with glasses did not display any urgency or willingness to assist with any of our questions and needs which was disappointing. However, we appreciated the helpful attitude of the older woman and older man at the front desk, who were both courteous, helpful, and willing to go out their way for what we needed.

Our first room had a terrible musty smell and poor water pressure with neighbors that enjoyed smoking on their balcony so we couldn’t open our doorwall. We asked management to move us into another room and they did so, which we greatly appreciated since it was much cleaner, too. We were mostly disappointed that all 3 pools we saw were cold and not heated even slightly, so we didn’t bother to go in. Had they been heated, we would have spent more time on property and bought drinks from their pool bar.

Lovely hotel with delicious Margaritas!

We loved this hotel- the location is just perfect so close to Playa Norte but also in a quieter spot. The views from the pool earlier were beautiful. The exterior of the hotel was really well thought out, not too concrete jungle like many others and a beautiful swimming pool. The beds are super comfortable!

The only negative was our shower was cold and was no much more than a dribble.

We LOVED our stay here. The pool is absolutely wonderful and my husband has to MAKE me get out when we had events to attend. There is a bar and bartender that made tasty drinks and cold beer. The turtles showed up in July to lay their eggs and we spent every evening watching the turtle patrol help the ladies lay their eggs and taking them to the hatchery to safely emerge later. The staff was great and helpful. We had a golf cart and enjoyed driving around but there are bars and restaurants closeby to walk to. We loved that this little secret hideaway is quiet compared to all the other hotels our friends were staying. Coming back to the hotel every night was like coming home. I recommend this hotel to truly be able to enjoy Isla Mujeres!

The hotel location is great, the rooms are spacious and clean. The general state of the hotel is ok, common areas need maintenance. The attention from the staff is ok, most of the times there is no one at the front desk, so of you need help you have to wait for someone to show up. Me and my husband had to do an early check out because of huracan Beryl, and we were surprised no one at the hotel told us anything about what security measures they were taking, I spoke to the manager and she said I could ask for a refund with Expedia, they will contact her and she will approve it but after multiple attempts from Expedia I was informed they weren't able to contact anyone, I tried to contact the hotel by email and phone but I never did. I know this was an exception circumstance but I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of client support.

As a sailor who just competed in the Regatta Del Sol Al Sol Race across the Gulf, the constant breeze going through the lobby was like a great chocolate sauce on ice cream. Quiet hotel on a lovely cove close

We recently spent three nights at this hotel while we explored and relaxed on Isla Mujeres. The hotel is well located on the north east side of the top of the island, meaning it is well placed for the famous Playa Norte and accessing the restaurants and bars in town, but quiet and secluded enough on its own beach cove, which while you can’t swim there, affords a peaceful retreat from the crowds. It’s like having the heat of both worlds - great access and tranquility. The hotel has a nice pool looking out to the sea and comforts rooms, albeit leaning to the more basic side.

A couple of observations:

- There is no breakfast facility here, but lots of good places closes by - Coffee Break and Oh My Brunch were both good and close by.

- While there are coffee machines in the rooms and one near the reception, they only offered single use polystyrene cups when we were there, which is very disappointing given the need to protect the island’s ecosystem and environment.

- The tv has a couple of Spanish language channels, which is fair, and the “smart tv” functions (ie Netflix) didn’t work. Not a major point, as we were out exploring all the time.

- The reception staff could be friendlier and more present/visible, especially as they make you wear a plastic tag/wristband to ensure only hotel guests use the facilities/for security reasons. We saw the hotel cat at the door more than we did staff members!

Excellent location. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the beach. The hotel is tucked away from the street and is so quiet that you can hear the waves. The pool is nice and has a beautiful view but despite 2 pools pictured by the beach, there is only 1. They have another small pool around the corner. Staff was friendly and the room was basic but clean. There are no elevators so be prepared to climb stairs. Some of the websites mentioned free breakfast (which is not true) but they did have free coffee and plenty of drinking water. No microwave in the room but there is one next to the lobby.

The location of this property is perfect. Close to North Beach, shopping and restaurants. On the quiet side, perfect for relaxing and beautiful views of the ocean and small bay away from the crowds. My room was clean, spacious and comfortable (great pillows too). There’s no restaurant on site, but it’s close enough to food stalls and restaurants that it didn’t matter.

We have stayed at this property several times and it is always consistent and convenient.

The rooms are nice sized and clean and quiet.

LOL..the older gentleman at reception has never changed...
While he is NOT a wealth of customer service - he is efficient and gets job done - never rude just not as warm and inviting as the property 😉.
