For as expensive as it was, the room was microscopic, the walls were damaged or needed paint, the sink went halfway into the shower because the bathroom was so tiny, there was no place to put a suitcase, the waterflow was nearly negligible in the sink, there was all sorts of trash under the beds, and on and on.

Man it was awesome for my first time in Japan. The staff were so nice and talkative to me. I’m introverted so I appreciated it a lot. Ameyoko was so close to me. The hotel is smaller than expected but it was fine. You’re so close to everything it’s awesome. The train station is so close! Denny’s is very close too, my favorite place to eat in Japan. There’s not too much people where you’re overly stimulated. I’d stay in that hotel again.

I want to go back, I’ll leave America right now.

The room was a bit on the small side, but still very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean. Security was good - you needed a room key to access the elevator. The staff was very helpful. The laundry room was very small. The washing machine was very good, but the dryer was on the weak side (I had to hang my clothes to get 100% dry)

The immediate area around the hotel is not the greatest (there is a very busy road right outside the hotel, but the road noise was reasonable)

The hotel is very close to Ueno Station, Ueno Park and Ueno zoo. Ueno station can get you almost anywhere in Tokyo in a very short time. The park and zoo is a great spot to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

I would recommend the Ueno Urban Hotel very much.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. They were also helpful and accommodating allowing me to leave my bag for the day before check in. I am still not a fan although this seems to be a Tokyo thing of self check in, even though the staff stand by you and complete this with you, it seems a bit pointless. The room - I have never seen so much dust under any bed before it gave me the shivers - I mentioned this at check out. The AC was also not very good - having stayed in 3 other Japanese hotels at this point - the AC would not cool the room below 27c (it was set to 15c) at night, this concern was mentioned to the staff who felt there were no problems with the AC. If the cleanliness and AC were improved then this hotel could be recommended. The hotel is in a good location to be able to get the express train to the airport.

The room itself was very small and the bathroom was the size of a small closet.

It got the job done but, for the price, there are better options. The staff was very friendly, which is the one saving grace. If you don’t like confined spaces, this isn’t the hotel for you. Luckily I was just mainly using the hotel room to sleep at night as I was out most of the day exploring.

I’m sure options for hotels with larger rooms are fairly limited (depending on the area of Tokyo you’re staying and the price you’re willing to pay) but out of all of the other 5 hotels that I stayed at during this trip, this is definitely lowest on my list for a return stay.

Location convenient but no other strengths

WiFi connection was lost several hours before checkout - very inconvenient. The room is tiny - a suitcase cannot be fully opened. Some staff members do not seem to be hospitable - when I asked for storing luggage ahead of check-in time, the staff member initially could not find my reservation and her attitude was quite haughty. She was later able to retrieve the booking (she overlooked it) with my earnest request - but she gave an impression of reluctance to help and I felt uncomfortable as a traveler.

The property is run down. The room was reasonably clean, but the walls were full of dents and marks. The staff were a mixed bag - some were polite and helpful, some less so. There was also a lot of noise - not from the train station, but from the street outside.
I would not stay here again unless I absolutely had to be right next to Ueno station, and even then there might be better options.

Its ok for one night, otherwise it becomes uncomfortable very quickly. The pillow is full of hard beans which left me with a headache and waking up to feel like id been in a fist fight. It would be nice if they left clean towels outside the door on days when the room doesnt get cleaned rather than the guest having to go to reception and ask for them. One big problem was the fridge not being cold. It was literally unuseable, and maybe even dangerous. One night is fine.

Great for travelers on a budget

The only “bad” thing about the room is that it’s pretty small so as a relatively tall guy it felt cramped, especially in the bathroom. However, I chose to be frugal so I can’t really complain. Definitely got good value for what I paid. I also got lucky and my room was a corner room with a great view of the Tokyo Skytree, which lit up in different colors each night! This hotel is also walking distance from the metro so you can really get anywhere in Tokyo relatively quickly.

My second time here. The staffs always good, Fronts, Cleaners.

The room is clean and clean up for you everyday. Amenities change to request at the front but that’s not the problem.

The hotel is just about 200 meters to JR UENO - Iriya gate and also near the Family mart in 3 minutes walk. Not so far from Keisei Skyliner as well.

Petite but Clean and Convenient

The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from the Ueno Station and close to the cluster of Ueno museums. The room is pretty small and one side of the double bed is placed against the wall, which makes getting out of bed for one of the two occupants rather inconvenient. Other than that, the room is very clean and well provided, the reception staff are friendly and speak good English. Good for short stays.

Fantastic hotel. Great location. Excellent Japanese breakfast. Really helpful staff. Modern decore. We selected this hotel as we flew in late in the day to Narita. IThe hotel was easy to find without wifi, being close to the Euno station. Also the resturants close by made it the perfect introduction to wonderful Tokyo. We were checked in and at a resturant an hour after landing at Narita!

It’s a great Budget hotel...room is compact but well provided with all the necessary amenities...plus 24 hour coffee in the lobby.

The hotel is very close to the Iriya entrance to Ueno station (100 yards) and well located so it was a good base for my short trip to Tokyo. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It's similar to other hotels I've stayed at in Tokyo in that the single room was very small but it had all the facilities I needed as a tourist. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Stayed here for one night for easy access to Ueno station. Nothing fancy, but great if you just need a place to crash. The room was clean and staff were friendly (even though we don't speak Japanese). Include the breakfast buffet if you want to experience traditional Japanese breakfast food - they also had cereal and yogurt for westerners but probably not worth the price if that's all you are going to eat :)

The location is fantastic, there is both the fast train and local train, so can go anywhere. Everything is in walking distance. The room is small but that is typical for Tokyo. If your out and exploring, then no issues. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We did not have the breakfast, but can get that from any local cafe.

Tiny room, not enough space to open your luggage. No choice but to use the bed for it. I’d rather not place my suitcase on the bed I will be sleeping in after it’s gone through the airport and picked up whatever on the way. No closet space at all. Tiny toilet. No in room safe. No English TV channel or at least have one channel. Staff very attentive and polite.

Stayed at Ueno Urban Hotel for the trip to Tokyo, Japan with wife.

The hotel was clean and new. The rooms had all hotel amenities, such as small refrigerator, aircon/heater, toiletry, toilet, bath, and etc. The staff were also very friendly, and the service was good. The first budget hotel that actually got our bags to our room when we left the bag and checked in later.

The morning breakfast served at the hotel had enough variety and was the taste is decent.

The location is close (walking distance) to the Ueno JR station and the Ueno Station for the Ginza and Hibiya line which makes it good for transiting around Tokyo. There are a few restaurants and minimarkets close so food is not an issue.

Slight issues that can be found is that the Hotel is next to a main road, and at times you can hear the sirens, which are infrequent. Another issue is that the room is small like other hotels in Japan, but the small double bed room for 2 guests is less wide than other hotels and can be rather uncomfortable.

The hotel is very near from ueno JR station Iriya exit (about 3 minutes walk). Ueno park is also 10-minute walking distance from the hotel. There are two family marts nearby the hotel. The staff is friendly and could converse in english. The room is clean and bright.

Smoking nightmare

Ok, so let's start this review by saying that I made a mistake when I booked and didn't read that it was a smoking room, my fault, but as a smoker, that was not a room were someone had had 1 cigarette, it was worse than the smoking rooms in the airport! I cannot truly understand how could someone sleep there, to the point that we had to lose the money and change hotels.
When the lady at reception informed us about it being a smoking room, I was thinking that it will be like everywhere else in the world, it will have a little balcony or somewhere to smoke. We arrived exhausted from a our 10 hour flight and got given the smallest room I have ever seen in my life for me and my partner. We literally opened the door and it was absolutely full of smoke, the beds were stinking, the walls, the curtains, everything! You could see that yellow-y colour everywhere. We tried to open the windows and they were locked. Asked reception to see if we could change rooms or pay more for a non-smoking room and they said no. Then we asked to open the window explaining we couldn’t breathe in there and they refused saying “sorry this is our hotel and we don’t open the windows because it's dangerous”. Then they gave us the tiniest little machine which was an \"air purifier\", man, to purify that you will need 50 machines! haha
So we had to leave and book another hotel, so claustrophobic, not sure how people can sleep in there. Also note that the rooms are next to the train rails so it was super noisy.
