We stayed here for four nights as a family of four and appreciated how convenient it was to get to — easy airport access via the Skyliner and just a short walk to the nearest train station for exploring other parts of Tokyo. The hotel is in an older part of town, close to Ueno Park and Zoo, and about a 30-minute walk to Asakusa and Senso-ji Temple.

The staff were great — friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room size worked well for our family, and the bunk bed setup was perfect for the kids.

However, there were a few downsides. The room didn’t have access to fresh air since the windows don’t open, and there was a light lingering sewer smell. It was generally clean, but compared to other Mimaru hotels we’ve stayed at, this one didn’t quite measure up.

Overall, a convenient and family-friendly option for exploring Tokyo, though there’s room for improvement.

This is the second Mimaru we have stayed in and, like the other, it did not disappoint.
Clean, friendly staff, close to the train and within walking distance of the main shopping and food streets in Ueno, laundry facilities on site (3 washing machines and 3 dryers), close to Lawson and Family Mart, close to the station for the Shinkansen and also for the metro and overall a great family experience!

Our family of three recently stayed at Mimaru Ueno North for seven nights and it was a very pleasant experience. The hotel offers a comfortable atmosphere and is conveniently located near Ueno Station, with easy access to nearby attractions and public transport. Reception staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. Our room was impeccably clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable with just the right firmness. After a day of sightseeing and long walks, it was good to retire for the night in a quiet area and hotel. Overall, we had a great stay at Mimaru Ueno North.

It was not too far from Ueno station for metro and Shinkansen trains.
There are a stack of dining and shopping options within a 15 min walk radius.

Excellent property that’s close enough to Ueno station entrances (7 min walk) and area eating and shopping (10 - 12min walk). Because it’s on the north end of Ueno Station, it’s a little quieter which can be a nice reprieve from the busyness of the core. I booked the standard family room which was a solid size for a family of 4 (two kids under 10). Staff was great and rooms kept really clean. Coin op laundry was easy to use. Only minor complaint would be that the wifi was slow, compared to North American standards, but it seems like this is more of a Japan thing than an individual hotel issue as every place I stayed seemed to have slow internet speeds.

I loved everything about this hotel. It was clean, well-kept, and I loved the layout of the room. I loved how the shower, sink, and toilet were all separate. The bunk beds were perfect for the kids with their own reading light and charging ports. The room was spacious and had blackout curtains. We loved the nearness of the Ueno Station and the quiet neighborhood. We would choose to stay here next time in Tokyo and recommend it to anyone. The only thing that would be helpful is if the hotel offered breakfast. It was a little hard to find food in the morning. Overall, loved this hotel and would stay again.

Brilliant modern room that was spacious for 2 adults and 3 children. Hotel was walking distance to Ueno train station, great local food spots, shopping etc. If you like walking, Asakusa is only a 20minute walk along one road. Uneo station is a hub so it's a quick train trip to anywhere in Tokyo. The English speaking hotel staff provide great local expert knowledge regarding sights, food, karaoke, transport. Lots to do and explore in Ueno. Loved this place!

Great stay. Great property and great staff. The room was spacious, clean, and perfect for our larger family. There are 5 of us, so the kids had bunk beds, wife and I had two twins put together for us with the baby. Ample space for eating which was perfect for take out brought back to the room. Great shower and tub with toilet separate. The kitchen was great including the larger fridge that was so much more helpful than the tiny ones you normally get in hotel rooms. The laundry facility was great. Coin operated, normally I don't do laundry but it was raining so it was so helpful to have.

The staff was amazing. They were able to help with directions, scheduling taxi, and most importantly help us in a bind. We forgot a package all the way back in Harajuku. I asked if they were able to help call the store to see if it was there. They were able to do so given the language barrier. Unfortunately the store was unable to ship it to us, but we were able to get back there to pick it up. Lastly, they were able to accommodate a late checkout for a nominal fee. Recommend this place for all families, larger parties, those wanting a larger than normal room in Japan. Oh and also it's only about a 5 minute walk to Ueno station

Great Home Base for Your Tokyo Family Adventure

The property is very well kept and maintained with an attentive, happy, and genuinely friendly staff. The room was great for our family - four of us got to make this trip together.

Location Notes: We chose the Ueno area because of the beautiful park and because there isn't much of a nightlife scene making for a quieter evening. The hotel and area lived up to those expectations. One thing we didn't really grasp from the map is that the hotel is a bit further walk from the Ueno Train Station than appeared. One of the big draws for this hotel is the proximity to the Ueno Station which gives you excellent access to the rest of Tokyo (especially via the JR Yamonote train line which is a loop around most of the hotspots a visitor/tourist will want to visit during their stay). However, it was a bit of a longer walk from the station to the hotel than looked on the map. It's not a terribly long walk, but we were walking about 10 miles a day so were feeling every step by the end of the day. The big tip is to use the station's Iriya gate which is the northernmost gate of the station with both up and down escalators. Once we discovered that gate it really shortened the walk to the station.

Conclusion: The Mimaru Tokyo Ueno North hotel offers a wonderful home base for your Tokyo adventure with easy access to the city through the Ueno station. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and attended to, and the room was comfortable and well-equipped.

Nice property and beautiful room. It was in a nice location from the Ueno station. The staff was nice but speak very little English, so speak slow and try to use Japanese as much as you can. A couple of issues i had was that in Japan the sun rises around 4 AM and the window was directly facing the bed. Making the room too bright and hard to sleep when the sun rose. Another issue I encountered was that one night I was bitten by a bug while I was sleeping. Gross! I have no idea what type it was but it was no mosquito bite as it was a deep red and itched like crazy. Also, the bathtub drain clogged up at no fault on my behalf. Please ensure drains are working properly and clean the beds and check the matresses for bugs. Better yet change the matresses once in a while.

This apartment was perfect for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. There are USB ports in each bunk as well as the twin beds. Very spacious for a Japanese family room. The location is great - 350 m from Iriya Exit at Ueno stn. Lots of cafes in the Ecute mall at the station which made breakfast easier for us. The market has heaps of restaurants and stores to wander around. Loved it!

The location of the hotel is quite a distance from Ueno Iriya exit if you happen to be lugging heavy stuff. Which we were cos we shopped a lot. Apart from that it's around 5-8mins of easy walk. On route to hotel is a Family Mart which we frequent to buy milk n cereal for my kids morning breakfast. Walking distance to Ameyokocho which was a great little street selling lots of Japan snacks. Has many pharmacies too. Hence was great to do all our last minute souvenir shopping. Across Ameyokocho was a little food court of sorts which has a bakery and some stalls selling ramen n burgers etc. It opens early so was also GD for a quick bite before setting off on a long day to explore other parts of Tokyo. As for the hotel, they provided free to take toothbrushes, tea bags n slippers. I thought this idea was great as people would then take only what they need. But I would have preferred if they provided body lotion n coffee pkts as well. Room was big and comfortable for the 6 of us and a dining table was really useful for morning breakfast for the family. Cleaning for the room to clear trash n replace towels only available if you stay 2 nights n beyond. Sheets will only be changed every 3 days. This was cos this place is more like a service apt rather than a hotel. It worked for us and GD for the envt too. Ueno is a great little area to stay. Alot of corners to explore and not as crowded as Shinjuku, in my opinion.

Great hotel. Great size. Big toilets by Japanese standards. Large room space compared to other inns and hotels. However no daily housekeeping. Only clear rubbish and change towels. Did beds only once throughout 5 nites and carpets were dusty. Fan duct at bath also dusty. But its a nice hotel and best space so far.
