The rooms were far nicer in the pictures than in person. The bathrooms and the grout on the floors were dirty. Clearly not maintained.

Making dinner reservations was incredibly frustrating. You’re required to go through the concierge but there were only two people working. We waited in line for over ann hour only to be told there were no reservations left. Completely unacceptable for the size of the resort.

The food was absolutely terrible. We found a pizza restaurant that was hidden and that’s pretty much all we ate.

The only bright spot was the bartender Stephanie, in the lobby outside the buffet.

Overall it was a horrible experience and I would not recommend this resort.

Our room was very clean tho we only slept in it . Everything is walkable to get to and the beach is spectacular. All staff were friendly and helpful tho there is a language barrier with some but they are quick to find someone to translate. Food for everyone with a main buffet and another at the snack bar. Breakfast is pretty much the same everyday choice of eggs or omelet different meats potatoes cereal yogurt etc definitelywont go hungry..suppers change daily. Have a la cartes if you so desire with an option to buy lobster dinner on the beach. We stayed for 8 days and didnt want to leave. Now bare in mind it is an older resort with dated rooms but the beds are top notch. We did experience 2 mornings with a hot water issue but was quickly fixed. We dont go to hang out in our room so we were fine with it. The grounds are kept meticulous with constant cleaning and for a smoking resort you dont see any butts or garbage. Now for the cons..just 1. They dont have enough loungers or umbrellas for the capacity they have so everyone goes down early and reserves them so if you want one by the pool or beach you need to go down by 530 am or you wont have one. Rooms have pop and water if you leave a couple pesos in the fridge with a note they will stock you with beer. I have stayed at higher end resorts and found the service at this resort far surpassed them
The premium rooms come with a butler and a separate restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Will definitely return!!

Our first room, which was not ready by check in time, had blood stains and a dead bug in the bed, mold in the shower, along with dirty old food on the coffee mugs.

There was wet paint everywhere and 3 articles of clothing were ruined. All 3 still had paint after laundering.

The casino, which we chose this resort for, consisted of only 1 open table game, and only 14 slot machines. As people who work in casinos, we were extremely disappointed. There was a maximum of $1,000 pay out, which negates the fun in playing and spending a lot of money.

We had food poisoning our second to last day and are still recovering 5 days after being home. I reported it to the hotel, they sent up a doctor, and the doctor tried to charge me $100 just for the consult, and said if I called again it would be $200.

Many of the daily activities were done early/late and in different locations than specified so we kept missing them, causing frustration in our daily planning. Our “butler” stated this was the norm.

There weren’t enough pool/beach chairs for the guests.

When I asked Guest Services, after waiting 15 minutes, for a recommendation on going into town and shopping she said she didn’t know and couldn’t give me a recommendation.

I would never recommend this resort to anyone.

I gave this location 2 stars because the beach was well kept, the pool was beautiful, and our butler, Jose, was incredible, as well as “Minnie” the activities director.

Excellent stay! The resort was clean, the room was very nice and the pools and beach were amazing. Somehow we had a premium level package so we were assigned a butler and he was fantastic. There were a couple hiccups with our room keys and room safe and the staff dealt with them so quickly. My only criticism is that the food was so so but thats to be expected at a big resort like this. Id come here again!

Occidental Caribe resort over all was very good, but our butler, Juan Carlos is who made our vacation EXELLENT. Juan greeted us at check-in and assured us that he would take care of all our needs, Juan was true to his word! We were a family of 14 in 6 rooms, and Juan remembered each of us and our room numbers. Juan also greeted us with voice message every morning, made our reservations in restaurants, stopped by to visit pool-side, and even personally dropped a friut plate the night befor we left. Juan was fun, friendly, efficient and dedicated. Juan quickly went from staff to friend to family. Thank you Juan Carlos!!!
We have stayed in Barcelo properties in the past and have always had a wonderful experience. We could see signs of age in the rooms but we could also see the commitment to update as well. For example, one of our party saw an elevator full of new beds, and staff working diligently in rooms. Our only disappointment was the quality and variety of food. We didn't go hungry by any means but that is the only area Occidental Caribe could improve. Thank you everyone for making our family vacation wonderful!!!

The initial room had one dresser that, when I tried to open the drawer, the front came off in my hand. Rather than replace the dresser, they changed our room to one overlooking the pool. However, they failed to tell us that the pool was very, very noisy from morning to late afternoon. The toilet, for the first three days, did not flush properly. They replaced it on the fourth day. The food was fine.

The hotel is really big with several pools and access to a nice beach. Because the hotel is so large, there is also a lot of people especially during high season, for that reason the buffet can get crowded and the restaurant reservations can be hard to get. I recommend you inquire about the premium stay which would give you access to a less crowded buffet. The staff is very nice, they try their best to accommodate the guests when possible. Some of the staff that stood out to us was Joselito at the restaurants, he always had a smile on his face! Yordi, our concierge who went above and beyond to get us restaurant reservations, gave us recommendations on tours, took time to sit with us and share more about the country and its history and contacted other departments when we ran into small issues. Likewise, José Rafael took time out of his schedule to help us get a couple of small things fixed in our room and stayed in touch throughout our stay to make sure everything was going well. His professionalism was unmatched and we are thankful to have met him. Overall our stay was great, we enjoyed the food, the beach and the entertainment offered by the hotel.

We enjoyed a great week at this resort!
The pools are clean and large, you can float alone or join into one of the activities.
Our room was clean. The staff are friendly.
The food was good, with variety at both the buffet and the individual restaurants.
The beach is outstanding, and the reason we keep returning. It has shade areas and sun, with clean, soft, white sand. It is a wonderful, relaxing view of the continuous blue waves.

The hotel offers 3 amazing pools. One designated for little ones with slides. The recreation team was very kind and funny. They also offered a trapeze for all guests. The food was very good- lot of variety. We got a beautiful garden view. The New Year celebration was a blast! We really happy with our choice.

El cuarto fue definitivamente una pieza clave por la cual no puedo darle a nuestra vacación, 5 estrellas. El día de check-in, una pared del baño con un receptáculo electrico estaba rota, con huecos, piezas de cemento en el suelo, justo al lado del lavamanos y tenía una menor de edad con nosotros en la habitación lo cual es un hazard. Fue arreglado el mismo día per ningún cuarto debe estar en esas condiciones a la hora de ser entregado a un huésped. Deben tener un protocolo de inspección. Había una gotera en el a/c que caía sobre el mini bar y llegaba hasta el suelo, completamente empapado día y noche. La caja fuerte tampoco funcionaba. El televisor solo contaba con 4-5 canales locales. Exigí cambio de habitación más sin embargo no fue otorgado.

Comida y bebida: no esperaba comida de la mejor calidad, estaba bastante decente tomando en consideración el precio a pagar. La bebida….. no esperen embriagarse. Ese alcohol que sirven no cabe duda que está diluido con agua o lo reemplazan con uno de muy baja calidad y lo ponen en botellas de renombre para engañar al huésped. Puro agua y azúcar.

Staff: ídolos todos. La atención fue impecable. Nicol y Yolanda del spa, fueron muy atentas y serviciales. Sebastián, tremendo tipazo también. Pero aquí el galardón a la MVP se lo lleva Ana Rivera la cual apodamos “avispita” porque para esa chica no había nada imposible. Ana se ganó el corazón de nuestros niños (3) y por ende el de nosotros los padres. Le cogimos muchos cariño.

Good stay if on a budget & want to get away, service was friendly, sometimes a bit slow; room was clean upon arrival but during our stay it could have been better stocked in the bathroom, grounds, pool, and beach all very clean; bar staff below La Mexicana were Espectacular( Manuela & José (?); he’s been there 10years!)
Main buffet was good- you must make a dinner reservation for all other restaurants- I’d go back for relaxation

This was my 2nd stay at this resort, 6th trip to Punta Cana.
I was at Occidental Caribe first time back in 2019 and after that I visited Punta Cana from 2021 until 2025 five years in row.
Overall, it is good place to stay but getting outdated...
I stayed at 2nd tower at top 5th floor and I had a leak from rain, it wasn't good experience. That's only downsize, building is outdated and overdue for major renovation.
Besides that it is awesome place to stay, the beach is in my opinion the best in Punta Cana, pure white sand, no see weed, three pools, palm trees at beach, a true paradise. But the best part is people that are working there, they're amazing! I can't name all of them but let's mention some of them:
First is Jose Rafael, the Expedia rep at Occidental, he's very helpful person, helped me a lot while I was over there, he deserves 5 star for sure. Then my housekeeper Maria Rijo, she did amazing job! Then security office at beach Miguyel Trinidad, awesome guy! But true superstar is Christin Cuello, the bartender at bar at front desk. She makes the best cocktails in the world! Also, Sory Jean, the front desk associate, she helped me with the room, I requested ocean view and she gave to me without any question, very nice of her. I could name many other but it would take me forever but these people that I mentioned are true superstars! In the conclusion, I would go back again, Occidental Caribe is nice place to stay

The rooms were old, dark and outdated. Our toilet was broken (and yes we told them). We had to keep lifting the handle for the tank to fill back up and sometimes flush it multiple times for it to work.
The staff was terrible and not attentive. It always reeked of mildew and sewage, even in the buffet hall (which served the same thing morning, noon, and night).
The \"casino\" advertised 23 slot machines, and it was really more like 8. The smell was so awful in there, I couldn't stand it. Smelled like old, wet, dirty basement.
The \"nightclub\" was trash! The dj was only playing music for the locals. When I asked him to play some hip hop, he played 2 songs and cut the 2nd one mid song. The bartenders were rude. My cousin had been standing waiting on a drink and the 1 kept ignoring her and waited on another group when they came up. The other bartender came over and got my cousin her drink and was tipped $5. The bartender got mad and said it wasn't enough and kept trying to demand $10 so she could split it with her friend that ignored my cousin in the first place. When I told her to give it back if she wasn't happy, her tone and attitude changed real quick.
Thank God for our private butler Jose. He really took care of us and got things done. I would absolutely go back to Punta Cana, but I wouldn't recommend this dirt resort to not 1 soul. PLEASE do yourself a favor and NEVER book here!

How helpful all staff members were to me. I felt like a queen! Especially the customer service staff member Farode, my butler Carlos and the beautiful bar staff at the bar right there at the customer service center.
All of the pools were awesome. They need to lend out Different kinds of floats or let visitors know before they get there that they have to bring their own.
The activity director needs to reach out to all the people that stay, especially if they are single. They should have a singles meet and great set up somewhere too.
I loved it there. Wish I could live there full- time!

Wonderful vacation. Beach is perfect pools are great. Bathrooms could use updating but room was perfect for 2 friends. Buffet needs help was not a fan very little flavor but you can survive. restaurants are amazing we went to 4. Staff is great but I only spoke English so that can be a challenge. Had an amazing relaxing massage at spa. Hotel booked the best horseback trip. Because I’m an Expedia platinum member we had the best concierge Juan Carlos. He was fantastic. He helped us every day and made our very affordable vacation feel 5 star. He spoiled us and took care of our every need. Would definitely go back.

We had an amazing stay here and would highly recommend! We were celebrating our honeymoon and they went above and beyond starting with a room upgrade as soon as we arrived. Don’t believe all the negative reviews, it is all based on your preferences and everyone has different experiences. We are hoping to return next year with our kids! The staff were amazing and so friendly! We received a butler for booking through Expedia and she exceeded our expectations! Everything was phenomenal and we can’t wait to visit again!

The resort is beautiful and maintained well, you can see the ocean. It’s gorgeous outside, it does need some updating to the rooms but you’re only there to sleep anyway. The lay out is a little odd. It took us a while to figure out where all the restaurants were. The staff were willing to help and with the language barrier they do have some staff that speak English more fluently than others who can help more. Honestly for as many tourists, there should be more people who speak multiple languages .A phone translator is very useful. However, if you’re away from the hotel the phones don’t always work. You have to make reservations for the restaurants and it’s during certain hours. With excursions it does make it difficult. By the third day we had it figured out. Also, you need to book excursions through the hotel or they don’t let the other excursion people through the gate. I wish we would’ve known that upfront as it would’ve saved a lot of time and headache. There was always plenty of food at the buffet and they pretty much had the same things every day. So, you could try something different every day if you wanted. They even had little chef stations where they made pasta, tacos etc for you too. I will say the drinks were never very cold, however with it being a tropical area, I don’t think it can consistently stay cold. The staff there were very friendly and welcoming. Housekeeping staff always seemed to keep our floors clean and our towels stocked. I was pleased with that.

The balcony was perfect, the bar was excellent. Most of all the staff was great like always. Julia Polanco provided us with an outstanding customer service. She kept us informed and she treated us like if we were family. I can honestly say we made us feel like we were at home. My wife and I are definitely going back.

The place is a beautiful place to stay in unfortunately, all the rooms need upgrading as I arrived there they had to change my room twice and the second time I even had a little incident as Father‘s roaches upgrading me to VIP in the VIP room. It was beautiful nice place to stay nice of you unfortunately some of the drawers of the dressers were not open but besides that the place is a very nice place but they really need to operate the rooms.

We recently stayed at Occidental Caribe to celebrate my mom’s 50th birthday, and I cannot say enough good things. This was our second visit—we first came 6 years ago for my brother’s graduation and had such a great time, we knew we had to return.
We were a group of 16, from a 1-year-old to grandparents, and the staff went above and beyond from the moment we arrived. Juan and Jose helped us settle in, responded instantly to any request, and checked on us daily. For my mom’s birthday, they surprised her with champagne at the pool, decorated the hibachi restaurant, brought out a cake, and even gifted her a massage. They truly made her day unforgettable.
We also had a gluten-free guest, and they ensured all restaurants accommodated her needs. Huge thanks to Maria Montes and Nilson Herrera in the buffet hall—Nilson even remembered us from 6 years ago! They greeted us daily with smiles and hugs, saved space for our big group every morning, and treated our kids like their own.
Occidental Caribe made us feel like family. We highly recommend this resort and can’t wait to come back!

Empleados, facilidad y comida súper, única quejita estuve 1 semana la cual primer día me ofrecieron ir a conocer en Occidental punta cana aceptó segun por un regalo y botella Barceló la cual nunca recibí todos los días preguntaba y me decían que tenían que buscar en el almacén. Siento que perdí medio día al otro hotel para nada solo salió ganando el empleado que nos envió para allá. Tenía otra opción cambiarnos por el voucher de masaje y tampoco

En la noche en todos ladps salia un olor a escremento, lo empleados si no le das propina no te atienden ,la comoda malisima. En lo restaurant tienes q pedir una sola cosa en el menu sie do un all inclusive, todo el piso resbalaba pareceia q no lo limpoaba todo rebalaba en una ocacion queria hacer una reservacion para un rest japones y me dijeron que no habia espacio pero si le daba una propina me hacia un acomode de verdad q fue bien incomoda mi estadia adici9 al el cuarto apesraba a humeumedad de verdad q nunca voy a volver a ese hotel fue una super mala experiencia no tan solo para mi para mi exposa q fue quien queria q fueramos a ese hotel para celebrar mi cumple años

I chose this resort because it’s part of the Occidental brand. Overall, the property is dated and shows signs of wear, but most amenities are still functional. The upside is that the price is relatively affordable, so expectations should be set accordingly—you get good value, but don’t expect luxury.

The highlight of our stay was our butler, Juan Carlos. He was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our experience better. His service really elevated our trip and left a lasting impression.

I had a terrible experience. My bathroom flooded 3 times, I went to take a shower and as I walked into the bathroom i stepped into a puddle of toilet water they came to \"fix the toilet\" and it happened again and again, the third time they came to \"fix it\" they had to unhook the toilet, and they sat it in the shower come to find out a vape was stuck in the toilet. even after they did that it continued to flood. I requested s new room and didn't get it, I feel like I should be compensated I was not satisfied at all during my stay here. I have videos and pictures of everything and the night before I left, I woke up around 2am to use the restroom and it was flooded Maintenace came to \"fix it\" but told me I had to wait because it was a plumbing issue. The issue was never resolved from the first incident the only thing they did was had housekeeping come mop up the water. Terrible experience. None of my needs were met.
