Cons: Terrible food/buffet where unless you know what you’re doing/what is safest to eat, you will likely fall ill for at least a day or three. 3 people from our friend’s wedding party got pretty badly sick. The Italian restaurant was the worst food I’ve ever had in my life. Memorably bad. Think CRUNCHY gnocchi. My sister let me taste hers and I thought it was a roasted almond... It was like they just took the stale buffet gnocchi and passed it off as a fresh “entree.” The room, particularly the pillows, smelled perpetually like mildew. The alcohol was as bad as the food, if not worse. The parasailing people tried to scam us out of half of our photos until we threatened to get the hotel staff involved. The salespeople on the beach will stalk you daily. The mountains of seaweed at the beach were also pretty annoying.

Pros: beautiful physical location, the view was very nice from the ocean view room, the pools were very nice and the staff was lovely and clearly very hardworking. They will treat you like kings and queens (actually refill your mini fridge, e.g.) if you tip well.

If you’re on a budget and you don’t actually care about the quality of the food or alcohol AT ALL but you still want a tropical getaway, then this is your spot. Nothing was stolen, by the way, and we really didn’t take any precautions. So at least there’s that!

Everything was good at this location, the check in process was quick and easy, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the variety of food was great. The only thing that I think could improve is the big break in between the availability of food, which was when breakfast ends at 11am and the dinner begins at 6:00pm. The only food available was at the pool or Sports bar. I hope they eventually have a lunch time availability, that would make this hotel a great place to stay.

Where to start, maybe with we got completely scammed at the casino. The whole casino is ran by some very crooked people. All tables are set up to scam you. Stay away from the dice game left of the door. Hotel rooms outdated and bedding smelled like feces. Food was the worst food I have ever had on a resort. Staff are rude, lazy, and could care less in helping the guests. The riu parties are like super crowded and impossible to ever get a drink, and when you do it’s the cheapest watered down stuff. Stay far away and save you money and frustrations.

We recently stayed at the Riu Palace Punta Cana and overall had a wonderful vacation. The resort grounds were beautiful, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the service throughout our stay was excellent.

One of the highlights was definitely the food. There was a great variety of options at the buffet, and the specialty restaurants offered something for everyone. We never had trouble finding something delicious to eat, and the quality exceeded our expectations for an all-inclusive resort.

The only significant issue we experienced was with the bathrooms in the guest rooms. There appeared to be little to no ventilation, and there was a persistent unpleasant odor that was difficult to ignore. Improving the bathroom ventilation system would make a big difference in the overall guest experience.

Aside from that, we had a fantastic stay and created wonderful family memories. The excellent service, beautiful property, and great dining options made for a very enjoyable vacation.

Upon arrival I noticed immediately that the room was dirty. I used the room phone to call the front desk and asked if someone can come clean, hours later still no one came. I then went to the front desk lobby to speak to someone directly, I excused myself, as I was trying to get the man's attention. He ignored me, then finally took my request, wrote my room # down, but no one still came. After a few more hours, I called the operator again, and finally two people from housekeeping came. The sheets smelled of mildew/feet, the floors & tables were dirty, and the bathroom floor had a blood stain. So housekeeping changed the sheets, swept/mopped floors, and cleaned the bathroom.

We came with a group of 30, and 2-3 couples had to get their rooms changed 3 times, some were even put at different hotels nearby.

When walking through the hallways, staff did not greet nor smile, they kept their heads down. No hospitality.

The waiters/waitresses at the restaurants were great, very attentive.

The RIU's in DR have fell off.

Nice beach with palm trees, good food and service. It’s an 8 minute walk to splash park. Was fun for a short period. Never got windy enough to use catamaran. A little more people selling on the beach than I would prefer. Our first room had mold around ac vent and water leaking out of walls. We did get another room no problem. Rooms were clean. Toilets flushed slow. Two or three attempts sometimes to complete. Cappuccino bar was great!

Roaches in room had me fighting for my life all 8 days I was there..lol. all jokes aside they have a serious roach infestation and I'm not talking about water bugs but instead the brown small ones. I complained 4 times. I only have knowledge of them spraying once and that was for ants within the first hour I was there. It got worse after that the roaches came out and they were not playing. I was killing roaches up till 10 minutes before checking out of hotel room. At one point I was offered a reservation to a restaurant that did not require reservations..not sure how that would deal with roaches in room. I understand its an island but that was a serious infestation. Besides the mid at best tasting food, peeling paint on bathroom ceiling, housekeeping cleaning out my money from my purse(to be fair hotel told me to lock up everything valuable in safe cause they know they have thieves on staff.i forgot to lock up some of my money-but that's okay that was going to be housekeeping tip- they took it before I could give it), and some outlets not working and TV having to be changed twice cause not working, I would say The daily/nightly visits from the Roaches really dampened the stay at this Resort.
The staff were great really nice ,except the thief of course, the grounds are nice. Beach horrible with rotting stinky seaweed. Will Not stay at any Riu ever again. Shook all my clothes out at hotel. Threw out some stuff, had to spray Raid in all my clothes and luggage when I got home.

Oh, there was a place that had lamb chops that was delicious. I wish the pools stayed open a little longer and the bars. I have visited Riu in that past where it stayed open longer. la instalacion excelente, el trato excelente, la comida espectacular, no le doy 5 estrellas porque el parque de agua queda contiguo al hotel y pertenece a otro riu, aunque tienes acceso no puedes consumir nada alli, nuestra principal idea es el prque de agua porque tenemos una nina y pasarse el dia alli y no poder tomarse ni un jugo es molesto, ademas que queda un poco distante y hay que ir caminando.

Negatives: The seaweed was thick on the beach and our thermostat in our room wouldn’t shut down the AC. We recently returned from the RIU. The grounds were kept very nice, the rooms on the other hand were something else. Very outdated, not the cleanest. The box spring looked to have mold on it, and the first night I saw a roach in the bathroom.
The staff was super friendly, and the shows and music at night were nice. The food was average.

The room had mold. My mom got sick two days and she looked in the closet where the extra lien was and there was mold in the extra lien. Called staff two times to come and look and they never came. Killed two baby roaches in my room and then in my mother room my sister killed a baby roach. Water was leaking from the walls. Toilet runs all night.

Gorgeous, impressive and beautiful hotel! People were excellent, very fun entertainment, food was delicious, beautiful views and amazing in every way! The rooms are not very modern, my outlets were not functional, I had to charge my phone at the lobby every day, beds were small and squished together, bathrooms were small and very simple, not much of privacy in the bathrooms in the sense that it was just a piece of open glass on the shower, the layout of the rooms wasn’t pretty but it was okay to handle. However, I would still recommend it, and I will definitely come back!! Very worth it 🙌

This was our first trip to Punta Cana. We took our son for his college graduation. We researched resorts that would be conducive to both parent and young adult entertainment. The Riu Palace Punta Cana was just okay. Very dated rooms and bathrooms, bed linens were thin and scratchy, our room had a funny stale smell, food was not very good, our crowd stayed hungry most of trip. The hotel halls were dirty with half eaten plates of food left sitting out, trash and large hairballs. The staff wasn’t very friendly other than the pool & beach bar staff, they were great. Restaurant staff were rude at times and not very accommodating. We do plan to return to Punta Cana, but we will not return to a Riu resort.

Sad to say if your looking to book a stay here at Roy palace punta Cana… your better off just not we stayed in room 0176 from may 13th-21st were we found MULTIPLE roaches and other insects crawling around the rooms bathroom was clearly never cleaned properly we could never get water brought to our room also smelled like mold or piss 24/7 for the price and “luxury” they claim to be this was bottom line horrible now for the food it was always made hours before left out to be cold to eat every single day and the staff wouldn’t sever you if you aren’t tipping every conversation you have overall save the money and let this place close down.

The resort was beautiful, great pools and places to eat. The food was just OK. The rooms where nice to look at but the MOLD Oder was unbearable.. We had to switch our room 3 times loosing our whole first day there and making a really bad first day all around.. Our Mattress in the first 2 rooms were covered in black mold that was actually coming through the sheets. It was so bad and the staff did not care and and offered a late check out for our inconvenience LOL it took 3 hours out of our first day there and put us in a horrible mood, missing the beach and pools our first day. I got up at 2AM that day to get there early for my flight for a noon arrival and it was 6pm by the time we got things finalized. A late check out did nothing for us as we had to leave at noon the day we were leaving, I am highly allergic to mold and had an infection on my leg and could not sleep in a bed full of mold, They offered nothing to accomodate us at all. Then when we finally got a room the safe was broke and when we called the front desk they said we had to wait there for them to come fix it. So we lost another hour.

Front desk service was horrible. They did not try to accommodate our needs at all. We were placed in a room with dirty linens, and less than 10 minutes after entering the room, I had to call housekeeping to have the sheets changed.

Two days into our trip, my 2-year-old accidentally got locked in the bathroom. I immediately called the front desk for assistance, and they told me they would “try” to get someone to help. After raising my voice out of panic, they finally contacted maintenance. Maintenance arrived about 5 minutes later, but by then I had already managed to open the door myself.

The food was average overall. Breakfast and lunch were just okay, but the dinner buffet was great. Our server, Juan, was amazing and treated us like family from day one. The servers throughout the resort honestly deserve a 10/10 for their service and hospitality.

The resort itself offers a wide variety of amenities. The kiddie pool was a huge hit with my toddler — she never wanted to get out of the water. The pool area also had staff constantly serving drinks and food, which was a plus.

The property outside of the room was beautiful and well kept. The room itself was musty smelling. Brought moisture bags and 3 bags were full. We asked for 2 queen beds and got two double beds. The cleaning staff didn’t take dirty towels and bring clean towels unless we were there to ask them. The check-in put the wrong passport in for one of us and initially refused to change it as it would take too long. He then changed it after much persistence but still had the wrong birthday in there. The wait staff at the buffet was awesome. The staff at the steak house was not friendly.

Do not recommend if you’re traveling with toddlers or if you have a hard time walking. Resort doesn’t have many elevators or shuttles to help travel. For my toddlers, no good activities. Only 3 small pools. My toilet was broken the whole trip even tho I mentioned it at the front desk every single morning. No hot water the first 3 days I was there. Bed sheets were really dirty.

En general bien, la comida y diferentes restaurantes muy buenos. A partir de las 16 hs no hay comida en la zona de la playa.
Me dieron una habitación con mucho olor a humedad y no estaba en condiciones el baño. Recién la tercera habitación que nos dieron fue aceptable. Mal momento pasé.
El hotel estaba lleno pero siempre había lugar en los restaurantes y reposeras tanto en la playa y en la pileta.
Todo bien menos las habitaciones. Falta remodelar, olor a humedad insoportable.

My experience at Riu punta cana was exceptional. The staff were amazing and kind always willing to help. We had our 14 month baby and they helped out with giving us gallons of milk during our stay. The pool experience was wonderful and the kiddy pool was so much fun. However, the walk was long. If only they provided transportation for those with smaller kids. However, definitely bring a stroller.

Perfect experience, stuff maybe are tired so you don’t get the best treatment, sometimes there is cockroaches in the apartment, hope they work on that, food and parties and pool and the beach are so great
