Staff can be a bit bossy and rush you as you arrive to eat without consideration where you want to sit (e.g., in shade). Main complaint is that the toilets, showers, in-room lights didn't work properly. Finally, the noise level in the garden side rooms is incredible - amplified \"fun\" and shouting into microphones was ridiculous. Between the beach bar, Fitness, dancing, evening singing (of variable quality) were all overly loud and ran well after 11pm. Next time, I'll choose a smaller property without the cruise-ship type enforced, non-stop fun carnival atmosphere. The beach, sand and breezes are so lovely, but kept retreating from the noise!

The hotel facilities weren’t bad in terms of the pool and general amenities.
However, when it came to entertainment, there really weren’t many options for kids.

As for cleanliness, everything was absolutely terrible!!!
The pool water was dirty, and the food was so bad that everyone in our group ended up with food poisoning. Most of the staff were rude and clearly untrained. The rooms were not properly cleaned- they only changed the bed sheets!

How is it possible for a hotel anywhere in the world not to vacuum, mop, or properly clean the rooms during an entire week-long stay????

Small bugs in bathrooms and rooms. We forgot to bring toothpaste and the ‘all inclusive resort’ did not provide one when requested. We had to wait till next day to buy from store.
Vegetarian food options were very little. Their buffet labels all mixed up, so if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, god save you. We almost ended up eating beef patties which was labeled as falafel on the food counter.

I recently stayed at Riu Palace Punta Cana, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The hotel was extremely dirty, and the rooms were not organized or properly cleaned. Housekeeping did not seem to clean the rooms well at all.

There was very little entertainment. At night, there were some activities for kids, but for adults you had to walk a very long distance to reach any entertainment area. The waterpark was also very far away and not convenient.

The food was another major issue. We found hair in the food multiple times, saw cockroaches, and there were cats around the dining areas. Overall, the hygiene standards were very poor.

I absolutely do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

- Rooms: this was my least favorite part of my experience. Temperature wise it was either extremely cold with AC or a normal temperature with extreme humidity/dampness. Beds were not so comfortable after a couple nights. No real finishes to the rooms, they paint on the fly (I saw a lot of white paint cans while cleaning rounds were happening) which is fine but you can see white paint splatter on a lot of the wood in the room. Rooms are NOT soundproof you can hear everything happening above, and if your room faces inward, I hope you are a night owl
- Not enough spots for hotel guests between pool and beach options. Wish there were more sun spot options by the ocean not fully shaded

Well, I doubt’s will be read. But I was underwhelmed the property is an older property that needs renovated for sure. The food was average at best. Tried every restaurant the best one was the fusion restaurant that we experienced. The rest were just very average and I say this because I’ve traveled enough to know good food when I have it. The first day we were there our toilet ran the entire day. They sent a person up and didn’t fix the issue. I ended up fixing it myself the second day woke up to no water whatsoever and they said effected the entire resort an didn’t return till just after lunch. The workers were very friendly. The people at front desk didn’t offer to extend a credit do something special like they did for other people. I don’t know why someone did but the guy that showed me what they did for him he stays here fairly often. I guess we’re at the years and they sent him up a large fruit display with a bottle of line cigar.The ocean was beautiful. The place was kept pretty clean for the most part so that was a plus. I have a possible 10 I would give it to a six over 6.5. But I will never go to another Rio property. Nothing was offered as a credit we should receive at least a day if not, two days of credit from our vacation.

The rooms need major upgrades. There’s are old, moldy and bathrooms are in bad condition. Having stairs in the room is bad idea. We have been tripping over them not stop. Housekeeping ladies were wonderful as well as restaurant staff. Beach is great, close and clean. You have ton remove cats from the resort. They are being torched by the guests and their kids all the time.

This is our second stay at the Hotel Riu Palace Punta Cana. The grounds and staff were wonderful, especially the night bartender at the Daiquiri bar. The food was good, as well, however, we noticed that some of the variety from our last visit was not available. For example, we could not seem to get bagels, cream cheese, capers, or smoked salmon together at the same time. There used to be a lobster option on a Thursday I believe, but that was not available this visit. Also, I believe the rooms are in need of an overhaul. Our bathroom ceiling in the shower was stained, the glass partition had soap stains, and the shower head did not have a consistent water flow. The room just seemed dated and neglected to me. The housekeeping staff was pleasant and accommodating. One stand out was that it was my husband's birthday during our stay and the housekeeping staff decorated our room with very cute balloons. That was a great touch. We do enjoy staying at the Riu and did have an overall good experience.

Multiple things were wrong with our room. Many of the outlets in the room did not work, the ceiling fan did not work, toilet wouldn’t flush. We put in work requests which were responded to but didn’t fix any of the problems. Service was also not great other than the waiters at the restaurants and the cleaning staff. Everyone else seemed annoyed if stopped or needed service. Lastly food was not good at all. I don’t have high expectations when it comes to the food at all inclusive but I have to say in the appx 15 all-inclusive resorts I’ve been to this was honestly ranks the lowest quality, taste, and selection of food out of all of them. I hate to leave a bad review but want others to be aware when deciding on a resort.

Our first room was run down. The couch was ripped, the lamps looked like they had ripped tinfoil covering them, the toilette wouldn't stop running, the shower was leaking and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned.

We tried to switch rooms but there wasn't anything available unless we upgraded. I ended up upgrading and the room was a bit better but it was still rundown.

Housekeeping didn't clean our room very often and when they did clean it, they did the bare minimum and left dirty dishes in the room.

The entertainment was dull and boring.

When I booked my room through Expedia, it said I was supposed to get over $1400 USD in room credits but when I got there the front staff said I didn't have them. I tried showing them my credits on Expedia and they said it didn't matter because I don't have them.

We had a wonderful stay overall. The rooms were always spotless, and the cleaning staff truly went above and beyond. Every day they left beautiful towel animals along with fresh flowers in our room, which was such a thoughtful and lovely touch.

The only issue we experienced during our entire stay was with the dining service during breakfast and lunch times in the main dining area. The staff never helped us find a table, and we always had to ask someone to bring us a baby chair. We also had to request our drinks or get them ourselves, which took away from what could have been a smoother dining experience.

We’ve stayed at other locations in Puerto Vallarta and Cancun and never had this issue. Interestingly, in the restaurants at this resort, the staff was always on top of things and very attentive, so this seemed to be limited to breakfast and lunch in the main dining area.

Despite that, the cleanliness and care from the housekeeping team made our stay very enjoyable. The nightly entertainment was always very good.

I typically do not write poor reviews however this Riu lacked top quality. At first when we arrived everything was great they upgraded our room which was no upgrade as room was extremely dirty. Bathroom had hair in shower mold between tiles corners of room have never been cleaned. Worst was coming in one night as when we turned on lights one cockaroach ran so we had to kill and then I went to use bathroom and killed another. That was not only cockroach I was one also on floor in lunch area around the food.
I was also surprised that asked for a later check out since flight was later and the guest service was rude and didn’t even look at computer simply said no late checkout we can’t accommodate you .
After saying at other Riu I will not be returning the food also lacked very dry and super hard bread every morning .

I have been to newer RIU properties for eg RIU Ocho Rios in Jamaica and it was beautiful there. But RIU Punta Palace is nice too. But not as new as RIU Ocho Rios. Still enjoyed my time because the staff was wonderful

The hotel grounds beach pool were beautiful, the rooms were average, beds not that comfortable, low grade finishes in bathrooms and rooms, the restaurants were average, but the food buffet (breakfast dinner) was excellent with plenty of variety. Hotel staff friendly. New years eve Party was family friendly and a 10! Very fun and lively and free for guests. went on two excursions. Scuba caribe snorkelling was great. Overall good experience.

I was initially given room 2010. It had a hole in the wall, paint splatter all over including, phone, night stand and headstand. It also smelled like mildew. After calling the front desk I was moved to room 1143.

1143 was better. No mildew smell but the shower drain and sinks didn't drain well, there was mildew buildup around the shower. The showerhead didn't work at all so I made attempts to change rooms again. They sent me a plumber to fix it but they couldn't so I was told to wait until the morning since they had no rooms.

After formally complaining to Expedia and to Riu through their website they came knocking at 1am to move me to a nicer and apparently available room, 1179. Once there our stay improved but we were not happy about the first two rooms which honestly shouldn't be given to anyone.

I have pictures of those first two rooms. They were in horrible conditions.

The hotel was overall okay, but unfortunately it is clearly starting to show its age.

I have been staying at Riu Palace Punta Cana for several years, and this was the first time I truly noticed a decline. The bathroom in my room (35) had several broken amenities and showed a clear lack of maintenance. The drawers in the room were also very difficult to open and close, likely due to damage from humidity and salt air.

Service was another disappointment! Some restaurant staff seemed to forget that they work in a five star resort. On multiple occasions, I witnessed staff yelling at each other and, at times, being rude to guests. Additional training on proper five-star service standards is clearly needed. It’s in these small but important details that the hotel’s prestige is being lost.

Cleanliness was also a concern. I spent a lot of time in the cafeteria next to the lobby and saw cockroaches almost daily. I often found myself having to kill them with my shoes, which is unacceptable for a resort of this category.

The entertainment was also disappointing. Since guests cannot really leave the hotel at night, entertainment plays a major role in the overall experience, but it fell short. The audio quality felt cheap, and the performances were uncomfortable to sit through for more than 10 minutes after dinner. Riu Palace should seriously look at similar Mexico resorts and consider adopting some of their nighttime entertainment concepts.

My family and I loved our stay at RIU Palace Punta Cana! The staff were amazing! They made the stay 100% better. The food at the buffet style restaurant La Isabella was pretty mild but the restaurant food was very good. Room was very clean although it had a slight smell when we first arrived. The only complaint I have about this resort which is an isolated event was that the smoke alarm went off for the first two nights multiple times. Pretty much scared me and my kids out our sleep two nights in a row and when we went to see what was going on I kinda felt dismissed (I believe it was due to the language barrier). Next day I did find out it was due to a guest smoking in their room. Overall, great experience!

The bed sheets were not changed daily. Six or seven years ago, when I stayed at the same hotel, it was much better. They used to do daily room decorations with flowers and towels in each room. This time, there was nothing. The Christmas dinner was also just so-so, with very little decoration.

I would not return to this resort unfortunately. Usually the staff greets us at the entrance to check in whether its with a drink or showing us where to go. That did not happen here. Then when they checking in they gave us the keys and didn’t escort us to our rooms either. when we asked if someone would show us she verbally gave us directions and we took our bags and went on our way. The room had a stain on the bed sheets that they used that top layer by the footing area to try and cover up. The second time they changed the sheets, there was a stain that was covered by my pillow. They have a water park that is an 8 minute walk. However we had a 2 year old with us, so the other option was a 5$ taxi ride. The only good thing i’d say about this resort is the waiters that worked in the Isabel Buffet, went above and beyond. In particular two brothers Juan and Ariel. They were spectacular. My 2 year old was not eating anything and they assisted by getting her strawberries and bananas (the only thing she would eat there) even when the buffet did not have them available for everyone. That meant so much. Other than this, would not recommend or go back.

My stayat the resort was enjoyable; however, there are a few areas that I believe require improvement. The bed in my room was quite uncomfortable, being very hard, which caused me back pain. Another issue that concerned me was the behavior of the staff. I sensed a possible bias or preference towards European guests. I raised this concern with one of the buffet managers, explaining that I felt the servers would benefit from better training. As a Latina with medium light skin, I noticed that many servers did not greet me when I was seated and waiting for service. In contrast, guests with very light skin or European appearance were immediately greeted warmly, often even embraced. I found this treatment rather discourteous. When I mentioned this to the supervisor, he responded with some skepticism, saying it was unusual and that he had never encountered such feedback before.

Additionally, the buffet menu lacked variety, offering the same options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Among their restaurants, they have a Japanese establishment that, in my opinion, was quite disappointing. The chef did not appear to demonstrate much expertise. The hotel itself is pretty good. My only issue is I paid for an oven view and didn't receive it. Instead of telling me one wasn't available they gave me a different room and hoped I didn't notice. I was offered to move to a oven view the next day but I didn't want to go thru the hassle of moving everything.
