I’d stay away from the food at the buffet by the pool that was like wings, salad, etc - not good but the reservation restaurants were amazing. Very hard to make reservations but because the resort is so big, you can make them at the near hotels on the same property.

The staff was THE BEST. Brahyan welcomed us and helped us with everything. Cairo, Marcus and the rest of the team were all so personable. Id DEFINITELY come back again.

As a first time traveler out of the country this stay definitely has a special place in the heart. The crew members were the most sweets people I’ve ever meet. Down to the driver who take around the property. It was never I moment where staff isn’t interact with you. They are very helpful and the food at the plenty of restaurants was absolutely amazing. I 100% recommend anyone who love to have fun and enjoy their vacation to come visit my new friends here because I definitely will be back! They are very attentive to yours needs and really makes sure you get a lasting experience!

The property is beautiful, and the room was perfect. However, the dining hall staff were not very attentive, which affected the overall experience. Additionally, parents with children were allowed to sit at the swim-up bar, and the children were splashing water into guests’ drinks, which was unpleasant.

The pool area could also use better maintenance, as it would benefit from daily cleaning, and it closed earlier than expected.

The rooms were beautiful and we had a great view of the ocean and pool from our room , the pool was great most days but had to be shut down while we were in it because some older woman had an accident in it , not the hotels fault obviously but gross.breakfast was typically good normal buffet stuff ,some staff were amazing most were fairly unwelcoming

We loved our time at this resort!! Food was pretty good by all inclusive standards - Yurta was a highlight so definitely book that one. Beautiful beach, clean pools, friendly staff, and yummy drinks! Also a bonus to have access to the other resorts in the complex if you’re interested in exploring.

This hotel, even if it is renovated, is not 5 stars, the cleanliness in the rooms could be better, the food was not tasty and was the same every day, the waiters and those who served are all asleep, they do not work with pleasure, they just wait for you to leave them a tip, but even when you leave them a tip, they still do not serve you properly. All the dishes at the bar were so terrible, they did not even wash them properly, I saw this in my eyes. I would not pay that much money for such service.

I chose this hotel because it said it was renovated and price was a okay meaning I didn’t have to pay 10K to vacation with my kids. The hotel was fine. I’m a picky eater, I also want my hotel to be super clean.
Food at the buffet was non stop the same. No options for GF diet. Towards the end of the trip we saw a cockroach happy strolling near the hamburger station. I know where there is food there will be animals but come on.
Beach was semi ok. Seaweed everywhere.
Will I return. Probably not. Not to this hotel.
I’ve been traveling to DR for pass 20 years or so. Things have changed for sure.
I might need to pick different destination to take my kids to.

Terrible place, stay clear! Completely overpriced and nothing is related to luxury here. I’ve never seen a place that is do badly run. Rudest and most incompetent staff ever, mediocre food, cockroach infested rooms, and when we arrived they wanted another 1800 dollars as they said that I registered the kids as infants. My reservation clearly shows that they are registered as children. What a scam this is, stay clear!

Most of the time I had to have a few dollars in my hand before they would actually look at me. Pool was dirty with things floating around … such as cups. Food was okay . We will not be returning.

Great variety of restaurants available throughout the overall, very large property, food quality was variable, ranging from okay to great (2/7 experiences were memorable), no ambiance in any of the restaurants, both buffet or the reserved ones.

Breakfast was chaotic, often no plates. Staff broke glassware every day. Tables and floors were not the cleanliest in buffet. very hard to get staff attention for something. They always seem to be moving around but with no attention to the guests. Staff not speaking english at all was a challenge and had to use google translate. Restaurants for dinner were great. Room amenities were sub par. First morning water in all faucets was scalding hot, maintenance came and gave us a tutorial in spanish. Not helpful. Somehow the tub faucet controlled the temperature and we were told to use tv to control everything from lights to temperature. Second day, our tv remote was not working (needed new batteries) and when maintenance came, spoke no English and did not replace batteries like I asked him to, rather took out a pliers and squeezed the batteries and put them back in remote. Very unusual. When I called concierge again I had to call constantly to ask if someone was coming. After an hour I called back and the concierge told me they are coming, you can wait a little longer”. No one ever came. Very unprofessional. Luckily I had batteries from a device I brought which I had to use. Towels were not alway refreshed often with pile left on floor. Had to flag down staff for towels. Facial tissue not refilled the entire trip. Decorative pillows on beds had bad odor. Thankfully walked with lysol spray but still felt uneasy. Very slow service overall in every area. Will not return.

Overall the hotel was ok. They had a lot of activities during the day and at the pool. They had two pools so you can spread out a bit. Beach was beautiful. I expected a little bit more in terms of customer service and checking in on us. Check in was great and then after that we never heard from anyone. At one point my husband left his reading glasses at a restaurant and to get them back was a complete nightmare. We waited 3 hours for them to check the list and found and track the security cameras. Overall service was “ok”.

The food overall was not the best, and while some staff members were friendly, others were not as welcoming. However, we had a great experience at the Italian restaurant—our waitress, Ronald, was amazing, and the food there was very good. Overall, I would rate my experience a 7 out of 10. I would have loved to see more Dominican dishes offered, along with a greater variety of fresh fruit like mango and coconut.

Disappointing Stay from Start to Finish Poor Service Throughout

I recently stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Esmeralda, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the moment I arrived until my final night.

Check-In Experience:
Check-in was extremely slow. I arrived early and fully understood that rooms may not be ready before the official check-in time. I was told to return in an hour, which I did. In the meantime, I made the most of my time by planning my excursions and booking all of my restaurant reservations for the duration of my stay.

However, when I returned after 3:00 PM the official check-in time my room was still not ready. I kept being told that the housekeeper was “in the room as we speak,” but there was no real resolution. After traveling and waiting all day, this was frustrating and a very poor first impression.

I do want to acknowledge that I believe his name was Luis, who assisted me during check-in with booking my restaurant reservations. He was helpful and professional, and he did try to make things right but by that point, the experience was already too far gone.

Room Issues:
On both my second and third nights, I had to repeatedly call because the remote control in the room was not working. This should have been a simple fix, yet it required multiple calls and follow-ups, which added to the overall frustration.

Food Service & Staff Attitude:

The beach in this area is exceptional and easily the highlight of the resort. We had beautiful weather throughout our stay, and my teenage daughter and I enjoyed relaxing days moving between the pools and the beach.

We’re not big foodies, so we were generally satisfied with the buffet for everyday meals. The Teppanyaki restaurant and Yurta (the Mongolian restaurant) were excellent and stood out as the best meals of the trip.

Drinks were underwhelming. We didn’t find a wine, champagne, or prosecco we enjoyed, and many cocktails seemed to use bottled fruit mixes rather than fresh ingredients.

The biggest drawback was service consistency. Staff often appeared disengaged, and service felt disorganized. One afternoon we ordered drinks poolside and were forgotten; after waiting about 20 minutes we got our own drinks, only for the server to return nearly three hours later as if the delay were normal. The buffet experience was similar — tables frequently weren’t set, drinks required searching for, and basic service elements were often missing. I’m easygoing and happy to serve myself, but it often felt as though guests were an inconvenience rather than welcomed.

Overall: A beautiful beach and relaxing atmosphere, but service needs improvement. Best suited for travellers prioritizing location and sunshine over attentive service.

Outdoor pools were plenty, clean, some lively with music and activities, others quiet. Private swim up was not sunny, with cold water all the time due to trees for privacy. Property is clean and gorgeous, beach is unbelievably beautiful.
The Dominican does not have a service, wine or food culture like Europe. They happily bring you what you ask for but they do not know how to make a classic Cosmopolitan or a French onion soup so they bring you miserable attempts. Food and beverages were as you would expect on a cruise ship- banquet style in the alacarte restaurants.
Buffets, especially at breakfast with all the fresh fruits and choices were the best part.
Overall it is a Beautiful location and great value, as long as you are not looking for a gourmet & fine dining experience.

Too many vendors within the property, there are vendors pushing Privilege but they are too pushy, and the beach area is crazy, one ofter the other, massage, braids, tours, art craft, cigars and bunch of many other things, literally every five minutes one of these vendors pass by and some of them get mad because we don’t wanna buy their merchandise, they should respect more the hotel area, we paid to be relaxed not to be stressed over so much haggling.

All amenities were 9/10 for an all inclusive resort I would definitely come back. The rooms are renovated and well up kept. Majority of the staff are wellcomibg, kind and attentive, especially Manuel (private concierge/butler and Natelyn (front desk staff). The property is very big so if you stay at Esmeralda specifically you can enjoy some amenities at the other properties. À la carte restaurants like the Mongolian and French ones are very tasty and high end for an all inclusive resort.

Manuel at the front desk was very helpful for our group, especially given we were traveling with two other parties. He was able to place us in rooms close to one another and arrange Al La cartes as one group. Oscar in our building (90) was often asking how we could help make our stay more enjoyable. The beach was nice. Overall the property smelled like sewage especially in the rooms it was terrible. The restaurants were booked mostly and the few we got in were not good at all . My best friend and I (22 yr old girls) stayed at Bahía Principe Luxury Esmeralda for 6 nights during March 2026. Here are our honest thoughts after our stay… Pros: Staff is friendly, beach is very pretty and water is clear/blue (but very crowded), pool and poolside bars are lively during the day, dessert drinks are good, lots of entertainment throughout day/night, and they have a variety of options for excursions (highly recommend the Sonoa Island Reserve tour). Cons: First of all, the room bathrooms are NOT a five star experience and the pictures from the website do not show the many issues with the bathrooms (spots of black mold and scum in showers, rust everywhere, floors have a film of dirt, bathtub is unusable due to being dirty upon arrival, poorly painted and just un ignorable poor craftsmanship), water smells like rancid sewage, you can hear every time someone in a room near you flushes the toilet, and the bathroom smell is unbearable in the mornings especially. Additionally, the bed sheets smell like must/sweat even when they are changed every day, the rooms are FAR from soundproof and in fact you can hear everything going on outside as if it’s in your room, there was a vent in our room that had no cover so you could see straight into the ducts/wiring in ceiling, and the furniture in the room is not very clean. Finally, the worst thing was the food, which was terrible quality, and made us sick one day. If you can afford to spend a little extra, go somewhere else!!!

We have being in several AI hotels in Cancun and the Caribbean and this one without a question is at the top of our list. The staff is awesome, we can´t name one person who wasn´t nice to us. Kudos to the entertainment team, they will keep you busy the whole day with a bunch of activities. And the girls at the kids club, they are amazing, it shows they just love working with kids. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The beach was very nice. The buffet and the \"a la carte\" restaurant also good but ask for suggestions since some are better tan others. We are already planning on going back this summer!!

Third time returning. We stayed 5 nights in March with family of 5 with 3 kids 16-23. Beautiful weather (27 degrees, tiny bit of rain, a little windy), beautiful clean water. Staff kept up with clean up of any sargassum. Rooms are beautiful and clean, the mattress and pillows gave me the best sleep ever. Roomy bathroom, nice private patio. Beautiful, clean walkways and promenade to beach, nice beach bar. Comfortable lounge chairs on the beach, plenty of shade and sun. Lots of food variety and options. Bars and seating areas are everywhere. Staff are friendly and willing to help if they can- of course, you do have to be patient for service as it is a very busy property. The 5 a-la-carte restaurants we ate at were good, we especially enjoyed Yurta. Lots to do if you wish as you can visit between different Bahia resorts. Lots of excursions available.

We travelled here in March 2026. The entire Bahia Principe property is massive. The Luxury Esmeralda was just right. We travelled with our children and it kept everyone happy. The on site Water Park is perfect for toddlers/pre-school children. The pools and beachfront are beautiful. The staff were hit and miss- the more you tip the better your service is. The a-la-cartes were delicious but poorly serviced/staffed. Many of them only had washrooms outside which was a bit challenging with littles and were often unkempt. The swim up room was worth it. The rooms look much bigger online but were still spacious and modern. Check-out was chaotic and left my husband feeling frustrated. So many people coming in and out every day the lobby was hectic and staff often seemed overwhelmed. Overall, had a great time and would revisit.

It first took four hours to check in because they did not have our room available. The staff are extremely loud very early in the morning and try to come and clean at 8am and wake everyone up. The pools were dirty, the food was terrible (besides for the restaurants). None of the staff speak english which makes everything incredibly difficult and it elongates every single situation. Every time we asked for anything, whether it be towels, robes, waters, etc they tell us they’re going to come and no one ever comes and you don’t get what u asked for. We had a massive cockroach in our room and it took 45 mins to get help and they then tried to make us wait until the next day to take care of it. Lastly i had over $1000 worth of jewelry stolen from me out of my bag at the pool. The resort is beautiful but the most frustrating inefficient place i have ever been.

This is my 3rd time to the BP resort in Punta Cana but first at Esmeralda. I really enjoyed my visit. The property is well keep and beautiful. All of the common areas were clean. My room was large with enough space everywhere. The check in and a la carte reservation process was easy to use on the app. When I arrived the front desk was very friendly and helpful! Carla was the best! Every bar or restaurant that I went to was full of staff that were polite and took care of their guests. The food portions were filling and there was a good selection. The pool area was fun and lively. Alberto at the pool bar was a master at drinks and service. The gym had enough equipment to get a good workout in! The beach had enough chairs for guests. It was an easy walk to the beach and the beach was tended to by staff. It was annoying when people save their chairs but don't even come to use them until the afternoon. Overall I enjoyed my time there.

We love the pool. Also, the beach was perhaps the most amazing beach we have ever been on. Truly sugar like sand. We could walk for miles. Food overall was just OK. The buffet by the first pool was much much better than the buffet by the beach. Also, the bartenders at the pool bars were amazing. Alberto, Albi, Yadelina and the others made it so much fun. Entertainment was fun also. “King Kong “was a lot of fun. We kind of got suckered into going approximately 10 minutes outside of the resort for souvenirs, but it was simply a tourist trap. It was free transportation, but they just wanted to get you there so you would buy some things. Really enjoyed the local drink, mamajuana. Again, can’t stress enough how amazing the beach is here. Overall, a really nice stay

Our room with the swim out pool was great. Having the option for a low key swim was nice. The smaller pool was great and where we spent most of our time. Able to get chairs with an umbrella everyday. The staff was fabulous especially Angela by the pool. House Keeping kept our room really clean and always stocked with fresh towels and waters.

Rooms are dirty and smells bad, you have to give them good tip for changing sheets but it won’t help cause all blankets and pillows smells bad. Bathroom dirty, hotel front desk slow and helpless. I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s only 1 star all inclusive hotel. We escaped day earlier from this hotel. My family didn’t want to stay full.

Not 5 star luxury hotel, this was a 3 star. Most of the staff are unhappy and unwilling to serve/help or just plain do their job. Customer service is not their priority. Upon check in, it would have been nice to be given information on the grounds, a map, events that are happening, what sister hotels we can visit, how to make dinner reservations, etc.

Hotel was also not recently renovated as described on Expedia. Many areas of the room need renovations. Many of the pool/ bath towels had stains and holes. Smelly blankets and pillows that needed to be switched out. Not an all inclusive 5 star hotel as coronas and basic domestic/international beers are $5 each. I did not see any name brand liquor at any bars that didn’t require a up-charge. Also, extremely disappointing that they allow guests to wake up at 6am (which I will not do while on vacation trying to relax) to go claim all the beach and pool chairs by placing towels all over them. Many chairs were taken all day by these “towels” but no one using them. There should be designated staff providing towels and walking the guests to a pool or beach chair. This would avoid people claiming chairs in both areas in the case they decide to go to one vs the other.

The hotel grounds were beautiful but the lack of service/poor attitude from most of the staff made overlooking certain short-comings worse. With so many resort options, I can confidently say I have no reason to ever go back to this one.

We went to celebrate 20 year anniversary, we actually got married at the resort. We have been at this Bahia resort now a 4th time. Unfortunately it has really fallen off.
The good
- Beach is still beautiful
- The upgraded us to a beach view (Block 90, 3rd floor)
The not so good
- The shower in our room stunk of sewer, it was a strong odor. We told the concierge daily, and we were told every day a technician would come look at it. No one ever did.
- No Hot Water for the first 2 days
- Buffet is very basic, it used to be so much better
- We both god food poisoning
I sent a message to management while at the resort and they didn't do anything. Just the standard response \"We are disappointed, we will improve and provide better service in the future, hope you give us another opportunity\"
Standard responses with no personal follow up loses customers. This is my last vacation with Bahia
Read other reviews, there have been several people with similar situations

Pros:
•Resort was beautiful and quiet compared to the other onsite resorts.
•Bar staff were excellent, “Yalla” was the best at the pool bar.
•Room service was fast for food and courteous when they arrived at my room.
•Cart drivers were very nice too.
•Buffets were tasty and the breakfast buffet manager always asked if the resort could do anything to improve my stay.

Cons:
•Never enough chairs at the pool or beach.
•Pool was very cold
•Beef meat cuts were unsatisfactory, even at the a la carte restaurants.
•Gift shop sunglasses were $49 USD for stuff you can buy at a dollar store back home.
•Oneida Dinner show was the worst part of my experience. The price was acceptable but the food was 0/10. I couldn’t eat anything there. It was pre-cooked, burnt, dry and looked like vomit. The Circus performers were entertaining and talented.

Overall, I had a great time and would 100% go back. I just hope they address these issues

Staff is amazing. Hands down. But the room smellt really musky, turned out the filter was mouldy, room smelt like air freshener for 2 days, then it went back to musky (our clothes smelt like our room by the end).. beer is the best at the sportsbar, everywhere else its a little water down. Again, staff amazing. I always had enough water and snacks in my room. Was very well treated. Restaurants - buffet is good, and the italian and the steak house, everything else very mediocre. The music is insanely loud at the pool and the beach, all morning and afternoon, definitely not the place to take my elderly mom, but would've been a better vibe with my boyfriend (in our 30s). Over all, I'd give it a 10/10 given the price, but I've traveled to turks and caicos and other islands at 5 star hotels and this wouldn't come close to it. And next time with my mom specifically, I would book an adults only and maybe spend a little more. I would come back here with my boyfriend, though. Next door to us was a family with young kids and we could hear them through the night.. we talked to them and it helped a bit. But hey, sunshine, unlimited drinks, and a huge variety of food, it was a great get away.
