the experience was great and the service provided by the staff was helpful and with effort. However, I feel the cleaning crew did not wash the shower during our stay at the resort. Also, not sheets were provided during the whole time and WIFI was lost depending on where you stood at the resort, but these are minor issues which did not affect me while I was on vacation. Bueno, la propiedad como tal, ha cambiado mucho. No, parece ser un hotel 5. ¿Estrellas bajó a 3 estrella? El bufé malísima la comida no tiene variedad ninguna las carnes, los pescados, los camarones nada de eso. Es la misma repetición. La comida es muy poca y mala. Calidad la parte de entretenimiento cambió completa. No hay mucho entretenimiento. Todo va a cambiado. Nada es igual a ante.

Check-in was unfortunately a terrible experience due to a supposed supervisor at the front desk who clearly lacked humility and customer service skills. Thankfully, another staff member helped resolve the situation and the experience improved a lot after that.

Everything became even better when we met Manuel! An amazing host and an even better person. He was always willing to help and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He truly made us feel like we were staying at the best resort in Punta Cana.

People like Manuel are exactly what a resort at this level needs. Hopefully one day he becomes a Supervisor or Manager because employees like him make a huge difference.

The room and resort is really nice and clean however the food is disgusting and the drinks are watered down , even the sodas even though they were pouring the drinks out of 2L bottles. Not sure what that was about. Also the staff is not the greatest. At dinner in the restaurants and at the buffet the staff only tends to certain people. People were sat after us and tended too before us MULTIPLE times for me to notice a trend. Also they would say yes to bringing you a drink and never return with it and then when you ask about the drink after 20-25 min of waiting for it , they nastily say that they don’t have that drink or item . Then why did you say yes originally? Same for room service , they make you request things from room service on the app and then they literally never bring it or bring the completely wrong thing. I then asked the guest concierge for the requested item (ice) and he said yes and it was never brought . This happened twice. Overall the resort looks nice but if you’re going for food and good service I’d book elsewhere . Looks can be deceiving . Again not all staff was like this but majority .

Been to the DR 5 times now. 3 Stays with Bahia Principe. This time some things have changed. When we first arrived, we were not picked up for about 20 minutes. We had to wait for transportation to our lobby for check-in. We used to be able to book our own A la carte restaurants but now it's done by a butler. We did not eat at 4 of the reservations due to not liking the food. The buffets were good though. Some of the staff weren't as friendly as they used to be. The room did not have face towels, and it took 3 days of complaining to get them. Other than these minor issues it was a great trip as always.

Rooms were humid, no air vent or fan in bathrooms. It smells after a day use. Property is good but if they improve service would come back again.

All restaurant and bar staff were rude, unfriendly even after tipping them individually at every service. Service was delayed for food, they wont even take order.

The location is great and the grounds are beautiful. It’s really nice being so close to the beach. The rooms are good however there are signs of aging and things not being installed with attention to detail (messing caulking, leaky shower heads, leaky shower glass splash guards, and doors that don’t close properly. Our first room didn’t have a well functioning air conditioner so the room never got cool. We changed rooms to a swim up which was much more private and quiet than the pool facing rooms that get blasted with music from 10am to 11pm. Definitely not a quiet resort. You can’t escape noise/music.

The food was ok, and a lot of the restaurant meals were blah with lack of flavour. It was hard to get a cup of ice and at least half the wait staff didn’t understand our English well enough to understand what we were asking for when it came to allergies or a cocktail or even regular non alcoholic drinks. Steaks orders were never to the requested doneness, The Brazilian restaurant Rodizio had the best meats. The chicken shawarma from the Greek restaurant was not at all shawarma and was terrible, the skewers were good though.

Housekeeping was great, and satisfied all of our requests.

Luis Acosta our Expedia rep at the resort was amazing and super helpful. Luis was the best.

Resort food was good to excellent, the resort was clean, and properly attempted to. The beach was nice, there was a lot of seaweed, but there is nothing they can do about that, they tried cleaning it out as quickly as possible. What is really impressive about the resort was the people, Lewis was the person at the desk area that handled all our Arrangements getting us into specially restaurants, and raging on a romantic dinner on the beach for my 70th birthday that my partner Colleen teamed up with him. Edward at the desk who handled room changed after a few little problems was also excellent. One night fire conditioning went out, they quickly arranged upon stay in another room for the evening,. The air conditioning first thing in the morning. Things will happen, it all depends on at all they're taken care of, and they took care of things quickly. R o c i o our maid's name, I have never had a cleaner room and haven't been treated better in any stay in my life. As I stated earlier I turned 70 while we were vacationing there on our eight night stay. The people make the resort kelly, also Kevin by the pool making things happening outside. I would recommend this resort to anyone.

Everything was great. Staff was friendly and always made you feel seen and heard. Very attentive to their job. Luis Acosta was our butler and he was also great. Everyone from the receptionist Luis, to the entertainment staff Kelly and Carlos, the bartender Alfredo…they truly are angels. Esmeralda staff were incredible! Our butler Manny was the best at ensuring all our needs were met. He had an incredible sense of humor as well! The property was clean, maintenance receptive to minor issue, and entertainment staff was engaging (we loved Marco and Wonderson!) . We were able to enjoy multiple reservations at great restaurants. Yurta was our top favorite but MEAT and Flame were great too. It’s our 5th time at Bahia principe and did not disappoint!

The hotel is updated and very clean. The food at the buffets is mediocre but the à la carte restaurants are better. The staff at the buffets are ok but you have to track them down to ask for some coffee and drinks. The beach was beautiful just wish there was more drink service at the beach especially if you’re in the “luxury” part of the resort. My biggest problem is that I purchased this resort from expedia because it said VIP, which in the past they have honored and I have gotten an upgrade in the room and discounts at the spa, this time they offered me nothing and said because I was a “blue VIP” I didn’t qualify. This “VIP” classification is misleading and I will not be using expedia again to buy my future resort stays.

Wow.... this resort has everything you need on site. I highly recommend staying at Bahia Principe Esmeralda. This is a beachfront resort, has many activities throughout the day, and plenty food options. I absolutely loved eating at the restaurant with beach view. I was so relaxed during my stay, and the customer service my husband and I received was exeptional.

Huge shout out to Jose, Manuel, and Dafne for making this a memorable experience. I already want to go back! Also, to Ruben, bartender by the lobby, and to Manuel and Orlando for making the best mojitos at the beach bar.

I am already looking into booking my next vacation to Punta Cana! Amazing experience, I miss the food so much!

I must say though Luis and Manuel were absolutely fantastic and went over and above for us. We had a group of 8 and even though restaurants were showing as fully booked, they worked their magic and got us in every time! This trip would not have been as good without them!

Additionally, the drinks were free flowing, the restaurants were amazing and the private pool we had was very good when the main pool closed for the day.

100% would return!!!

The staff - in particular, Luis Acosta & Manuel Lopez. Absolutely fantastic. They ensured we had a smooth check in and week at the resort. They made sure we had all our dinners booked in early in our trip and gave us restaurant recommendations so that we had the best time.

Restaurants - highly recommend Yurta (Mongolian), El Olivo (Mediterranean) and M.E.A.T. (Steakhouse). These were our favourite of the 6 restaurants we tried. The buffets were all good but the beachside one was a bit smaller so had limited options compared to the main buffet.

Drinks - the bartenders were all very generous with their pour and all the drinks were very well balanced. We loved most of the welcome cocktails. ‘Matum’ in particular was fantastic.

Room - the room was comfortably sized and considering we weren’t spending much time in the room anyway, it was perfectly fine. There were no elevators in the buildings so the staff had to lug our suitcases up and down stairs.

Beach - wow! The beach was fantastic. Water was warm and the sand was clean. There was some seaweed some days but overall very clean. Sand was very soft too! The waves weren’t as big as we were used to (being from Australia) but it was big enough to enjoy.

Had an absolutely fabulous time at Esmeralda. Resort felt luxurious, food was overall amazing (you will have your hits and misses of course) but our stay was made extra special from the help of the Expedia team, in particular Luis and Manuel who consistently went out of their way to ensure our stay was as enjoyable and stress free as possible - exactly what I was after when booking an all inclusive stay at a beach resort! And may I say, the beach was stunning! Not too many people, clean, gorgeous weather and fabulous staff to bring drinks over. Please thank Luis and Manuel for making our trip unforgettable. As an English speaking vegetarian, they were especially helpful for accommodating alternative dietary options for myself when some staff had more difficulty understanding. My partner and I are very thankful.

Very nice resort, the property is huge and you have to use the trolley system in the complex to get around. I love the fact that each portion of the resort has different activities and more restaurants than you will be able visit during a normal stay. Only negative is the AC went out in the room but the hotel staff accommodated quickly and move us to another upgraded room.

Tuve una muy buena experiencia en Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda. En general, el hotel cumplió con mis expectativas y, en varios aspectos, las superó.

Quiero destacar especialmente la amabilidad de la mayoría del personal, quienes realmente hicieron todo lo posible por brindarnos una excelente estadía. Sin embargo, considero que sería importante que este nivel de servicio sea más consistente en todos los colaboradores, para que la experiencia se perciba uniforme en todo momento.

La habitación, en la mayoría de ocasiones, se encontraba impecable. En los pocos casos en que no fue así, el equipo respondió de forma rápida y eficiente, lo cual se valora mucho.

Como oportunidad de mejora, noté la presencia de bastantes mosquitos. Sería ideal considerar alternativas como mosquiteros u otros métodos de prevención. Además, el jardín del balcón podría recibir un mejor mantenimiento, ya que en ocasiones dificultaba el paso.

Finalmente, considero que la oferta gastronómica, tanto del buffet como de los restaurantes, podría elevar su nivel para estar más alineada con la categoría de un hotel 5 estrellas.

En resumen, fue una experiencia muy positiva, con detalles puntuales que, de mejorarse, podrían llevar la experiencia a un nivel aún más alto.

Katherine was the best waitress on the beach. Orlando made great drinks on the beach. Lewis Acosta was so helpful when we first got there, setting us up with everything we needed with room and restaurant reservations!
Mario was great whenever we needed anything more and he always seemed to be available friendly.
Everyone was wonderful. Goes a long way to tip your waitress, bartenders, room service and housekeeping. So do it! They deserve it! We loved it. Food was great. Italian (casa Bella) restaurant food was great but the Mongolian restaurant was our favorite (Turta). Tequila restaurant was amazing too and it’s only a 5 minute trolly ride and they are always available to ride!
Entertainment was so fun!!! And the excursions were great. We definitely want to go back! We had 2 adjoining swim up rooms and it was perfect if you wanted a break from all the entertainment!

I’d stay away from the food at the buffet by the pool that was like wings, salad, etc - not good but the reservation restaurants were amazing. Very hard to make reservations but because the resort is so big, you can make them at the near hotels on the same property.

The staff was THE BEST. Brahyan welcomed us and helped us with everything. Cairo, Marcus and the rest of the team were all so personable. Id DEFINITELY come back again.

As a first time traveler out of the country this stay definitely has a special place in the heart. The crew members were the most sweets people I’ve ever meet. Down to the driver who take around the property. It was never I moment where staff isn’t interact with you. They are very helpful and the food at the plenty of restaurants was absolutely amazing. I 100% recommend anyone who love to have fun and enjoy their vacation to come visit my new friends here because I definitely will be back! The property is beautiful, and the room was perfect. However, the dining hall staff were not very attentive, which affected the overall experience. Additionally, parents with children were allowed to sit at the swim-up bar, and the children were splashing water into guests’ drinks, which was unpleasant.

The pool area could also use better maintenance, as it would benefit from daily cleaning, and it closed earlier than expected.

This hotel, even if it is renovated, is not 5 stars, the cleanliness in the rooms could be better, the food was not tasty and was the same every day, the waiters and those who served are all asleep, they do not work with pleasure, they just wait for you to leave them a tip, but even when you leave them a tip, they still do not serve you properly. All the dishes at the bar were so terrible, they did not even wash them properly, I saw this in my eyes. I would not pay that much money for such service.

I chose this hotel because it said it was renovated and price was a okay meaning I didn’t have to pay 10K to vacation with my kids. The hotel was fine. I’m a picky eater, I also want my hotel to be super clean.
Food at the buffet was non stop the same. No options for GF diet. Towards the end of the trip we saw a cockroach happy strolling near the hamburger station. I know where there is food there will be animals but come on.
Beach was semi ok. Seaweed everywhere.
Will I return. Probably not. Not to this hotel.
I’ve been traveling to DR for pass 20 years or so. Things have changed for sure.
I might need to pick different destination to take my kids to.

Terrible place, stay clear! Completely overpriced and nothing is related to luxury here. I’ve never seen a place that is do badly run. Rudest and most incompetent staff ever, mediocre food, cockroach infested rooms, and when we arrived they wanted another 1800 dollars as they said that I registered the kids as infants. My reservation clearly shows that they are registered as children. What a scam this is, stay clear!

The hotel was just okay . The staff was sort of rude. I had to ask for things 4-5 times before getting anything .. like coffee. Most of the time I had to have a few dollars in my hand before they would actually look at me. Pool was dirty with things floating around … such as cups. Food was okay . We will not be returning.

Not a 5 star property…mostly “mediocre”, not terrible, just not great. Staff mostly avoided helpful interactions, getting coffee in am restaurant was challenging. Great variety of restaurants available throughout the overall, very large property, food quality was variable, ranging from okay to great (2/7 experiences were memorable), no ambiance in any of the restaurants, both buffet or the reserved ones.

Breakfast was chaotic, often no plates. Staff broke glassware every day. Tables and floors were not the cleanliest in buffet. very hard to get staff attention for something. They always seem to be moving around but with no attention to the guests. Staff not speaking english at all was a challenge and had to use google translate. Restaurants for dinner were great. Room amenities were sub par. First morning water in all faucets was scalding hot, maintenance came and gave us a tutorial in spanish. Not helpful. Somehow the tub faucet controlled the temperature and we were told to use tv to control everything from lights to temperature. Second day, our tv remote was not working (needed new batteries) and when maintenance came, spoke no English and did not replace batteries like I asked him to, rather took out a pliers and squeezed the batteries and put them back in remote. Very unusual. When I called concierge again I had to call constantly to ask if someone was coming. After an hour I called back and the concierge told me they are coming, you can wait a little longer”. No one ever came. Very unprofessional. Luckily I had batteries from a device I brought which I had to use. Towels were not alway refreshed often with pile left on floor. Had to flag down staff for towels. Facial tissue not refilled the entire trip. Decorative pillows on beds had bad odor. Thankfully walked with lysol spray but still felt uneasy. Very slow service overall in every area. Will not return.

Overall the hotel was ok. They had a lot of activities during the day and at the pool. They had two pools so you can spread out a bit. Beach was beautiful. I expected a little bit more in terms of customer service and checking in on us. Check in was great and then after that we never heard from anyone. At one point my husband left his reading glasses at a restaurant and to get them back was a complete nightmare. We waited 3 hours for them to check the list and found and track the security cameras. Overall service was “ok”.

The food overall was not the best, and while some staff members were friendly, others were not as welcoming. However, we had a great experience at the Italian restaurant—our waitress, Ronald, was amazing, and the food there was very good. Overall, I would rate my experience a 7 out of 10. I would have loved to see more Dominican dishes offered, along with a greater variety of fresh fruit like mango and coconut.

Disappointing Stay from Start to Finish Poor Service Throughout

I recently stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Esmeralda, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing from the moment I arrived until my final night.

Check-In Experience:
Check-in was extremely slow. I arrived early and fully understood that rooms may not be ready before the official check-in time. I was told to return in an hour, which I did. In the meantime, I made the most of my time by planning my excursions and booking all of my restaurant reservations for the duration of my stay.

However, when I returned after 3:00 PM the official check-in time my room was still not ready. I kept being told that the housekeeper was “in the room as we speak,” but there was no real resolution. After traveling and waiting all day, this was frustrating and a very poor first impression.

I do want to acknowledge that I believe his name was Luis, who assisted me during check-in with booking my restaurant reservations. He was helpful and professional, and he did try to make things right but by that point, the experience was already too far gone.

Room Issues:
On both my second and third nights, I had to repeatedly call because the remote control in the room was not working. This should have been a simple fix, yet it required multiple calls and follow-ups, which added to the overall frustration.

Swim up suotes don't have a beach view, but it was great, clean and the private-ish pool very convenient as it can be used till 9 pm while all other pools close at 6 pm.

The hotel setting is pleasant, and the beach is nice; however, the food is ok, the service is poor, and booking a restaurant is a hassle. All in all, this hotel falls far short of five-star standards.

I would give it 5 stars for cleanliness but my room smelled like sewage and the first person I told about it said they would change our room after 3 PM when I went to follow up nothing was noted. Fortunately the 2nd person was very responsive and immediately went to work on securing another room.

The resort had lots of amenities and activities everyday day to keep us busy. Our room was also very spacious. The food was the only thing that was not very good and we struggled to eat it. The themed restaurants were interesting but did not necessarily provide international cuisine. Overall, a good experience.

The beach in this area is exceptional and easily the highlight of the resort. We had beautiful weather throughout our stay, and my teenage daughter and I enjoyed relaxing days moving between the pools and the beach.

We’re not big foodies, so we were generally satisfied with the buffet for everyday meals. The Teppanyaki restaurant and Yurta (the Mongolian restaurant) were excellent and stood out as the best meals of the trip.

Drinks were underwhelming. We didn’t find a wine, champagne, or prosecco we enjoyed, and many cocktails seemed to use bottled fruit mixes rather than fresh ingredients.

The biggest drawback was service consistency. Staff often appeared disengaged, and service felt disorganized. One afternoon we ordered drinks poolside and were forgotten; after waiting about 20 minutes we got our own drinks, only for the server to return nearly three hours later as if the delay were normal. The buffet experience was similar — tables frequently weren’t set, drinks required searching for, and basic service elements were often missing. I’m easygoing and happy to serve myself, but it often felt as though guests were an inconvenience rather than welcomed.

Overall: A beautiful beach and relaxing atmosphere, but service needs improvement. Best suited for travellers prioritizing location and sunshine over attentive service.
