This hotel all in all was nice. All of the staff was very friendly, and would all wave and say hello. However, the staff at the front desk was not the best. They scheduled my family and I the wrong room, inconveniencing us because we had to be out of our previous room by 12, and leaving us without a room until 3 without any compensation. Moreover, the staff at the restaurants would not check up on the guest, just to wait 2-3 hours to receive food that was mediocre. Along, with the room our first room we had was in good shape. However, the second room we were placed in the faucet was loose, the shower was leaking, and the blankets smelt like they were not washed. Overall, I would say the hotel and scenery is nice and the RIU parties are good. Just beware for the food being poorly made and unseasoned, and the inconsistency in the room quality.

The hotel grounds are huge with manny pools. We stayed in room that accommodated 3 double beds & sofa bed with plenty of space. Massive room which is great for group of friends. Nice pools

However service was very poor. Some staff members out effort but more often than not terrible service. First at checkin. The front desk staff made it seem like I was nuisance for them to check me in. Didn’t provide me any information about property or give me general instructions. I had to ask where to eat. What the times are. How to even get to my room.

The restaurants while many had terrible system. No way to make reservations. You had to show up & hope there was room. Or go at 6. We were only able to go to restaurant 1 time with other nights left to go to buffet.

Even service at restaurants was bad. We would ask for table for 4 and the staff would just look & not bother to find us table. If we sat down somewhere they would say no this area is closed. Complete lack of care or attention. If they only want people to sit in certain section they should direct them.

Food quality was mediocre. Not impressed at all.

If you are young and like Latino music and dance this place is great. If you about lazy and a lot of alcohol, baking food this is great. I personally missed the regular international disco party and dairy variety. Also beach could be more friendly to walk and swim.

Overall, we had a great vacation. We had requested a king bedroom but were given a double queen instead. When we arrived, the TV in the room showed another woman’s full name, and only during the last two days did it change to my name. This made me think that the rooms may have been switched and that we were given someone else’s room while the king room we requested was assigned to her.

Aside from that, the staff was wonderful and very welcoming. The room was clean, and housekeeping came every day. The food was amazing as well. We spent most of our time at the main pool; in the mornings it was clean, but during the day it tended to get quite dirty.

The wifi has a pretty bad connection!!!!!

The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is because of the room situation. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay.

Great resort. No elevators except in main lobby. Great food great staff. Expedia resort credit is laughable. You get $1500-1700 USD RESORT CREDIT. you may only use $20 a time towards a spa treatment of $150 or more. So if you want to spend about $7000 on spa services would be the only way to redeem credit. What a joke.

The first day we arrived and checked in, there was no welcome mocktail or wet towel like at other resorts we’ve been to. Check-in was smooth, but the front desk agent forgot to give us our bracelets. We also let them know it was our anniversary and birthday celebration. They said they would do something special for our room, but that never happened.

The bellboy helped us with our luggage, and we went to our room. Once we got settled, my husband kept complaining about the smell of the sheets and pillows. I didn’t notice anything at first because I hadn’t laid on the bed like he did. However, that night I couldn’t sleep because there was definitely a wet, mildew smell coming from the sheets, and it was very strong on the pillows.

The following day, we asked to change rooms for two reasons: the smell and the fact that there was no elevator in our building. They told us there are only two buildings with elevators. Keep in mind, most of the buildings have three or four flights of stairs. We were on the highest floor in our first room.

We moved to a second room in one of the buildings with an elevator, but we had the same issues. After a day, the sheets felt moist again. We came to the conclusion that it was likely due to the ventilation or air conditioning in the rooms. At that point, it didn’t seem to matter which room we were in.

As for the food/drinks—honestly, it was not good.

I could go on, but there’s a limit to how much you can write in a review on here.

I rarely write bad reviews. I want to start with the communication between expedia and Riu. When my son got injured and we have to cancel his stay, I contact expedia right away. The airline was able to refund me right away. For Riu, initially I contacted Expedia and explained the situation that my son couldn't make it to the trip but we still would like to stay at the same hotel, but since it's an all-inclusive resort I was hoping they can modify my booking and get some refund. Expedia got back to me a day later saying no response from the Riu and suggested me to just cancel the book. It was only 2 weeks away from my vacation and most resorts are full. I chose not to cancel. Instead I send the Riu hotel couple emails and hope someone can get back to me. No response... ok, finally we check-ined to the hotel and I still wanted to talk to someone about the booking. The staff helped me was a young men you can tell he just started his job not long ago but he was willing to call his supervisor. The supervisor was right behind the desk. He explained it to his supervisor and came back asked me to wait. I finally got to talk to his supervisor and repeated my situation. I got a very blunt reply since I book my stay thru Expedia I have to go through Expedia. I was like, but I wrote you guys emails. He replied, we wouldn't reply your emails because you booked it from Expedia. I was in shock, this is properly the worst customer service I have ever received from a HOTEL. cleaness, food,

My stay at Hotel Bavaro had some positives, but overall service and responsiveness were inconsistent. Juana and Darlin at the front desk were especially helpful and attentive, while other staff members were less caring and did not always follow through. For several days I reported bugs in my room, but action was only taken after I specifically requested to speak with a manager, which was frustrating. Dining experiences were mixed: the buffet staff were excellent, actively checked in on guests, and the breakfast and lunch buffet food was consistently good. Capuchino was just okay; desserts were good, but staff sometimes got orders wrong and were often too busy talking to one another to listen carefully or confirm requests. The Italian restaurant and Agave had good self-serve options, but the actual meals were not as strong, and service at the restaurant for breakfast was not attentive. Overall, while there were bright spots, the inconsistency in service and responsiveness made the experience fair/poor. Internet service was also inconsistent and front desk seems lackluster with helping, they said keep trying until someone helped me on the second day of complaining.

We just returned from an incredible 5-night stay at Riu Palace Bavaro in the Elite Club, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience! From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations.

The Elite Club experience was absolutely worth it. The Elite Pool was amazing — peaceful, beautifully maintained, and just steps away from the beach, which made it the perfect place to relax all day. The beach itself was stunning, with soft sand and gorgeous turquoise water.

Every single server we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The drinks were made perfectly every time — consistently excellent whether at the pool, beach, or restaurants. It truly felt like the staff cared about making our stay special.

The grounds were gorgeous and very well kept, making it such a pleasure to walk around the resort. There was always something to do, and we never once felt bored. Whether relaxing, enjoying activities, or just soaking up the atmosphere, the days flew by.

As for the food, it was good overall — especially for an all-inclusive resort. While there’s always room for small improvements, we truly have nothing to complain about. We always found something we enjoyed, and the variety was solid.

Most importantly, we had zero issues during our entire stay, which made for a completely stress-free vacation. We would absolutely return to this resort in the future and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, relaxing getaway in a beautiful setting!

I stayed at this hotel last year, and I found it to be considerably worse this year.
When we checked in for two rooms, we were told that one of them had a king bed, but when we went to the room, both were twin beds. When we went back to the front desk, we were told that there were no king beds available, but no one explained why they lied to us when we checked in.
I found the food quality and availability to be worse than last year. At the outdoor food court, I found undercooked chicken while some items were not regularly replenished and thus not available.
Both rooms smelled musty and unventilated, and were also cold despite the fact that we did not use the air conditioning. I don't understand what was making them cold.
The restaurants are also kept very cold which is not comfortable for guests who often come from cold climates in search of warmth.
Riu Palace is supposed to be a premiere brand, but it is hardly premiere.

Very disappointing quality of food, food handling and food serving/display (comparing to other resorts in the area) . Very disappointing service in the buffet - staff evidently expecting tips otherwise they simply don’t care. Food (fruits) not always fresh and the same cut fruits reused for breakfast and lunch/ dinner. Milk watered down with water, which was also confirmed by waiters- had to request fresh milk from a carton.

The staff could have been friendlier, and very little English was spoken. The WiFi was terrible and the app leaves a lot to be desired. The beach is over crowded with people trying to sell you various items and drugs almost immediately upon stepping in the sand. The free transport was not worth the wait once we arrived at the airport and we had to leave the hotel 4 hours before hour flight. In hindsight, private transportation would have been a better option.

The cleanliness and the staff are excellent; however, there are things like the elevator floors, which were worn and damaged, and some paint details on the walls and on the exterior part of the hotel. I don’t know if they overbook, but there is an enormous number of guests. Despite that, the staff makes a huge effort and attends quite quickly. There was only one incident at the French restaurant where we waited more than an hour to get in. The person in charge of receiving guests and assigning tables was a bit rude, and since we were a group of seven, it seemed like we were left for last. I feel that this was not managed well, and perhaps people who arrived after us were seated first. In addition, we ordered five desserts and only two were brought to us, so we left because the delay was enormous and the rest never arrived — that was at the Krystal restaurant.

Very good hotel in resume. Great and spacious two bedroom for a family of 5. Clean and pretty new or refurbished room. Some issues with housekeeping like leaving 2 towels for 5 people twice or empty containers for shampoo and conditioner. Nothing very important but makes you have to call reception several times on several days to ask for missing basic things. Perimeses are well maintained. Nice beach with plenty of sun loungers. Used the diving services on site with excellent services. Water park is free and a great plus when traveling with young children.

The staff is great. The pools and grounds are amazing and well kept along with the rooms. The downside is the food it could be better. They no longer have a omelette station at the breakfast buffet and the Agave needs much improvement. The Elite bar is a very nice addition but does not serve a very good grade of wine as is the case throughout the resort. Having said that we really enjoyed our stay and plan to return .

We stayed for 5 days and the room and parties were great however the staff was probably the worst I’ve experienced at any RIU. Not only did the hotel cleaning mix 7up with our open water when she cleaned the room to not “waste It” but the staff harassed my fiancée countless times about not speaking Spanish and tried to charge us 250 for wanting our wrist band removed to be tightened so It does not get lost. None the less we got engaged on the resort but to this specific location I’d avoid. All the RIUs meet at one location for the parties anyway and you’d probably get better service elsewhere with less attitude.

Overall good food, beach and decent entertainment. But lots to improve on.
❌ Our double bedroom family suite should have had two bathrooms and only had one. If this is the case it should be made clear on booking. The cleaning of the room and the resort was almost immaculate. Some weird things though like a broken glass from a staff member was left in the hallway for a few hours. The renos were great and the resort feels fresh. Only saw one major issue which was a overhead leak in the gym.
❌ Total failure of the kids club. 10-1 and 3-6 but only if they care to open on time or show up at all. One day no one even opened the club. Don't get me wrong - we only wanted them in briefly on a couple of days (like 2 hours) so we weren't relying on it but it was NOT reliable even for that. And then we asked them to not show TV to our kids (who were the only ones there that day.) but they still did!! Definitely can't be relied on if you need to do an excursion.
❌ Failure of fitness classes. No shows multiple times of instructors. Class is only 20 mins instead of 30. It's disgraceful. Just don't bother if there is no one to run it.
✅ Fun splash pad and beautiful beach. Waterpark needed updating and ❌ some safety issues in the kids section.
✅ Buffet had good selection of food and mostly fresh and well cooked.
✅ Excellent service at restaurants, especially the steak house.

Only complaint is that some of the hotel workers were making fun of guests in Spanish thinking we couldn’t understand them. It was only two girls from the coffee shop. I was disappointed with my stay. Definitely over priced and not worth it. Food and options were mediocre. We won’t be returning and don’t recommend.

My husband and I travelled with our two daughters (15 yo and 23 yo). We all had so much fun! The Staff were friendly, food was good, the property was clean. 100% would recommend Hotel Riu Palace Bávaro! We loved our stay!

The room was fine and the overall property was clean and well maintained. However, the service level, food options, and food quality were extremely poor. Communication was very difficult, and most requests were either unavailable or handled with reluctance. For example, when we asked for basketballs or other sports equipment, the staff was uncooperative and we had to search for a manager to get any help.

Restaurant services were very poor, and at one of the restaurants it took about 1.5 hours to receive our food. Vegetarian food was a major challenge as well. Every time we requested vegetarian options, the restaurants were unwilling to accommodate.

The check-in process was also unnecessarily long. Even after completing online check-in in advance, we still spent about 45 minutes at the desk to receive our room.

Transportation was equally disappointing. Although the hotel provides airport transfers, the wait was extremely long. After walking a long distance with luggage, we finally received a ride to the hotel. The return trip to the airport was similar; we were sent to multiple desks to get confirmation before finally being assisted.

Overall, the experience was cumbersome and far more difficult than it needed to be. This was our first stay at a Riu Hotel & Resort, and based on this experience, we are unlikely to stay at another Riu property in the future.
