I usually never complain about this chain since ive been to so many Rius this by far will never come back lets start with the roaches in the rooms was switched 2x and both times big roaches by the couch. next the bar pool looked like they dont clean it at all was so dirty the days i pass by that pool, treatment absolutely No good customer service at the restaurants will ask for a drink and will give me sarcastic answers and comments, the person in charge of the transportation (destination services) Rudeeee made me feel so uncomfortable was trying to scam us with prices for the excursions and on top of that since we didn’t book with him he messaged my husband giving him attitude about not booking with him so unprofessional! I had the worst experience here the food was not the best

Property was great. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. I read other reviews about the smell in the rooms but once we were in and had the AC running it went away. This is something you have to expect in this climate. Definitely will stay again and next time we will upgrade to Elite Club with the soak pool.

Loved this resort! The aesthetic is so nice and up to date. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Not once did my friends and I have an issue and we loved how this resort was connected to 3 others. The only thing I would slightly complain about is how our room felt damp, maybe from the AC system which in turn made the sheets feel damp. Other than that I would definitely recommend to anyone and we will be back!

Most of the staff were very nice and accommodating. I had an encounter with the guy arranging airport transportation (third party via Expedia voucher) and he was extremely rude. On the last night, there were several roaches (not water bugs—house roaches) in my room. They did move me (this took place at 4 am) and gave me a number to call to discuss compensation. The food was not great, even for resort standards. The adjoining family property seemed nice with a good amount of activities for kids and a wider variety of food options. Overall, it was still an enjoyable trip.

Will definitely come back! We had a great experience. Really enjoyed that it was adults only, but exploring the other Rius was fun, they each have something a little different to offer. Staff was incredible. We loved the buffet for every meal. Definitely try Kabuki restaurant, that food was heavenly. Beware of booking anything with the guys on the beach. They are overpriced and not necessarily the safest excursions. Book excursions within the hotel in the theater.

The rooms were clean but the amenities like hair conditioner was empty upon check in to check out the entire stay although the staff was very helpful I did not like the drinks, no garnish and did not look presentable at all, most drinks had very little alcohol leaving guests to order double shots in drinks.

This property is super clean and very well maintained! Staff is extremely happy and gracious to help and assist. The large pool is clean and great with free cabanas! Pool to a great beach is steps away with a ton of lounger’s. Speciality Steak House & Krystal are very good! Pass on Tulare. Buffet is very plentiful and restocked very well but the buffet is C+ / B- at best. Definitely recommend staying here!

The property was okay, overall. We loved the Asian restaurant. The buffet was decent. The pool snack bar had the exact same items everyday. Other resorts offer a variety each day. The daytime / pool entertainment was lacking. The pool view of the ocean was limited...too far to get a good visual. The swim up bar pool DJ doesn't arrive until 4pm each day while the pool closes at 6:00pm. The just play mediocre background island music from 10am-4pm. Very boring! The staff interaction for fun activities isn't minimal. The bathroom sliding door for the toilet was broken and they poorly trying to screw it back...looked bad. The bathroom faucet handle was broken. There was a sewer smell off and on in the bath area, which is right next to the bed. Overall, I won't be back! Other Riu properties in different destinations were much better!

This was the best place where I have ever been to. The real parties were phenomenal. They were in a pool with a lot of foam. They had dancers and lots of drinks available. It was the best party resort I could ever think of the food was phenomenal. I wish I could go back.

Check in facil sin problema, cuarto limpio, instalaciones bien mantenidas, lo unico que no nos gusto fue el trato de los trabajadores de los restaurantes de \"especialidad\", varias veces nos toco llegar primero y atendian primero a los anglosajones al igual que el trato ya estando adentro. Dos de ellos siendo el krystal y volare. Esto contrario al trato que recivimos en el club cubano, 10/10. En total le doy un 6.5 a esta estancia balanceando precio y calidad.

One thing that I did like about the property is the staff ,the staff was very helpful very caring to know your name and know which drink you wanted that part was wonderful.Aside from that Horrible, my room had two roaches running around behind the television ,it smells like mold ,Some of the food areas needed cleaning. The amenities and room was not matching what I paid for in the picture . When I tried to speak to front desk , they were very dismissive to. My inquiry,The daytime entertainment needed some improvement the late night entertainment and the parties over at the other place were beautiful aside from that I don’t think that there was enough activities for the guest.
Would I recommend this property to someone probably not.

Honestly we had a rough start to our trip due to the check in process. We were given a hard time about paying through Expedia using Apple Pay even though it was our debit card. And even though our debit card matched the Expedia receipt and passport and ID, we still waited over an hour after traveling all day to only be told me must cancel our reservation and wait 20 days for a refund and rebook.. which most people don’t have the luxury of doing and to be told that after we arrived wasn’t fair. After arguing at the front desk for a while that everything matched up to my passport and ID ,we were finally given our room key. It was disappointing because we planned to stay at RIU due to the amazing staff in Mexico.

The resort itself was nice but did not compare to the other RIU resorts around. If you are wondering which one to stay at I recommend RIU Bávaro or Palace way more. Being an adult you can walk over to Macao for drinks and etc at night if you really wanted an only adult scene. They have more food options, bigger pools, and larger resorts, and more staff.

Checking out was also disappointing. We were greeted with a smile that quickly turned to attitude and eye rolling at us simply because we left our towel card in the room on accident, which truly is not a big deal at the end of the day. Safe to say we will not be returning to RIU Macao and don’t recommend. We didn’t feel welcome here.

It was our first trip to the Dominican Republic. When we arrived at Macao, it was quite awe inspiring. It was picturesque. Tropical paradise. We chose the Elite Club status and had an Ocean View room on the 4th floor. We were greeted and taken to the Elite Lounge for check in. A porter took us to our room and introduced us to our home for the week. It was just like the pictures. Mini fridge was stocked with water, beer, and soda pop. We immediately changed and went to the pool. Absolutely gorgeous pools. The large pool was very nice. Activities with the entertainment staff. The pool with the bar was the most popular. The bartenders were fantastic and always in a great mood. Orders came, \"With Love\" as one of them would say! The small restaurant, Pepe's Grill, was great. Burgers, dogs, sausages, wings, nachos, etc... The food was really good there and it was open all day. All that was great but the best of the trip was the beach. The water was perfect and the clearest of any beach I've ever been to. As the pools get very warm as the day goes on, the sea was very refreshing. The sand was soft and perfect!
The on site restaurants were really good. The Elite Club restaurant had cowboy steak for 2. So good! High quality dinner. The place on the beach, had braised short rib. High end dining with the best view of the ocean! The Asian grill was my favorite. Very good food. The Italian and the Steakhouse were our least favorite but still good. Definitely an A+ and another visit ahead

We stayed 1 week for our honeymoon, the staff was helpful and kind, and the resort was beautiful being right on the beach we got to walk out and enjoy a beautiful view every day. Each night the resort holds a show for entertainment that ends around 10:30 pm. There were only a couple things that we found to be not so great which were, the pool being very warm in an already hot environment so we spent most our time at the beach and in the ocean which was still warm but little bit better. The food was a bit disappointing, we order room service a couple times and each time it was not good. For example, I ordered a chicken quesadilla that comes with sour cream and they just gave me chicken in a tortilla with no cheese and no sour cream. The food at the buffet was nice though.

I have stood at many of the Riu brands in dominican republic. The property at Riu Macao was my latest. It appeared knline that they had undergone a facelift for their room but i must have been in the wronf building. I rented the suite on 4th floor ocean front. Room looked a little beat down. Tub was old and stained, although clean. Had a leak in the cieling, i called they took forever. So i left and never even got a courtesy call back to apologize for thr inconvenience even though the proplem was resolved. I was shocked to see how little options the buffet had as well. To me it was sub par. I chose to eat out most of the time. Grounds are kept nice, beach was amazing. I just feel the human touch needs to come back a little at this resort.

Front desk staff were excellent. Very professional, welcoming and helpful in all areas! Bar tender at Cubano made excellent drinks. Staff worked hard to make all areas clean & ready. Loved how staff help guests be engaged for activities at the pool, dancing & board games available on rainy times. Loved their energy! Our room was missing some towels, items in bar/fridge & the light in the shower was not working. Some moldy smell. Beds/pillows very comfortable. Overall, clean. Hand nail mani/pedi, not very good. Overpriced for the services received. Some dishes at some restaurants were very delicious & some were off. But loved the variety offered. If you didn't care for one, you are able to go to another. Pools and beaches were absolutely amazing! We are missing it already.

I spent over $3,000 for my anniversary at RIU Palace Macao and it was a complete disappointment.

The “anniversary dinner” they claimed to arrange didn’t exist. When we arrived, the restaurant had no record of anything, and the manager told us to leave and go back to the lobby to figure it out ourselves. Completely unprofessional and embarrassing for a so-called luxury resort.

The room had multiple issues. The TV was broken, and after asking twice to fix it, nothing was done. The phone didn’t work either, despite being told it would be repaired. Because of that, every time we needed anything—including room service—we had to walk to the lobby.

Staff repeatedly made promises but never followed through. There’s clearly no communication or accountability.

I’ve already filed a complaint with corporate because this level of service is unacceptable, especially at this price point.

They left a gift in the room, but that doesn’t make up for the poor planning, broken amenities, and lack of service.

This was supposed to be a special trip, but it turned into a frustrating experience. I would not recommend this resort to anyone

I had a really great experience at Hotel Riu Palace Macao. The entire resort was very clean and well-maintained, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the stay. The food was consistently delicious with plenty of variety, so there was always something to look forward to at each meal.

What stood out the most was the staff—they were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the trip. The overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing, perfect for an adults-only getaway.

Everything exceeded our expectations. The food and drinks were surprisingly good, the staff was amazing, and the amenities were very nice. The property itself isn't necessarily quiet, but far quieter than some of the other RIU properties, but you still get access to all of them. The only even slight complaint I would have is that the air conditioning didn't get cold enough and was not adjustable.

I really enjoyed this resort. I went with a friend for a girls trip. We got the swimup suite in the elite club and in my opinion it was definitely worth it. The other pools arent huge and filled up pretty quickly. This trip was purely for relaxtion and we achieved that. The beach was beautiful the water was so blue. We did indulge in a massage at the spa and it was the best massage ive ever had 10 out of 10 get a massage! You also get to use the spa pools, they have hot tubs and a cold plunge as well as an indoor pool and a few unique spa shower stalls. Was everything 100% perfect at the resort, no, but when is anything perfect to everyone. I will definitely return to this resort.

The Property: For this resort being on the smaller side, it makes up for location and closeness to the beach. It's exceptionally maintained and manicured and lacks nothing that the larger locations may have.

Cleanliness: Nothing was out of place, nothing was ignored, no foul odors or scents, beach was manicured and swept often throughout each day.

Food: Excellent! During our 5 day stay, our party of 8 was able to experience meals from every on-property restaurant that was prepared as asked. Our on-site buffet had an exceptional amount of variance of dishes well prepared. We ventured off to other RIU's within our area for dinner and without any doubt or hesitation, Macao sits alone on this one!

Drinks: Great selection and well prepared. The water was also drinkable as vetted by many with their on-site filtration system.

Staff: This is by far the best RIU Staff in the D.R! Attentive, Aware, Friendly, Hospitable, Detail Oriented, and above all else, Trustworthy. They took care of every request, every ask, every suggestion without delay and with haste. Their attitude reflects that of the upper management which holds early morning briefings to ensure the guest experience is upheld to nothing short of notable and extraordinary.

In short, I will be returning to this resort in this calendar year with my family. I would love for them to experience what a quality resort perspicacity should feel like. Thank you again RIU Macao and we'll see you all again soon!

The resort is definitely catered towards the older crowd, and we aren't young. The food was mediocre at best and the resort still allows smoking. All though the smoking is supposed to be in designsted areas, no one enforces it which was a bummer to say the least. The resort its self is very clean as well as the rooms. It is small enough to walk around but unfortunately not much to do when it rains. There aren't many shows or on property activities to keep you entertained if you wanted to be. I highly advise against the Elite Club upgrade. We found it to not be worth it. There is one bar in the lobby exclusively for that and one on the beach but that isn't really a bar. It's a walk up with nowhere to sit. The beach area is all in the shade that is set a part from the rest of the resort. Those are the only 2 places that have the upgraded liquor package. We had a nice stay but not what we expected.

The resort was great but the food was nothing to boast about to others. I really didn't want to eat basic American food (hot dogs, burgers, etc) at the 24-hr buffet. The cold food at the buffet could've been kept better too because the amount of live bugs on it in it was concerning. Otherwise, the restaurants were up to par but not memorable.

Our second time at this resort. Staff are 5 star. Resort is immaculate. We stayed in a ground floor suite which had a garden view. Would rate that very good for spaciousness and cleanliness. Needs a bit of update. Parties and activities are great. Coral bar service excellent, but could try getting on some english based music a bit more. Seemed like mariachi for 95% of the time. Resort had a wide age range from 20s to 70s...for spring break it was an ok mix. Being able to wander and partake in the other resorts like Bambu, Bavarro and Palace is a big plus....get a lot of different experiences and crowds. RIU party (jungle and neon) once again were superb. Can't find another party the same consistently on the planet in my view. Macao location is great for this. Beach was fairly rough but we enjoyed the loungers and nice weather. Gym at Macao needs some TLC please management. It is quite hot in the mornings and some key pieces of equipment dont work. We would like to get a good sweat in before all the food and alco! Speaking of food, the main buffet is the winner and maybe the appetizer and main at Krystal. Deserts improved generally since our last visit, but were not impressive at Krystal. We did Elite on our first visit and decided not to on this one. We could find no difference in treatment nor amenities that would entice us significantly to Elite again. All around a wonderful 4 nights at RIU Macao.

We’re always super impressed by the entertainment team - they make everything fun. And the private beach/ocean swimming is amazing! Full transparency: there were some [large] cockroaches in our room… But that wouldn’t stop us from returning AT ALL because everything was otherwise very clean and we had the best time!

The spa was great and my deep tissue massage was awesome!!
The hot tubs were luke warm at best and never warmed up. The steam room was perfect though.

The room was so nice! The swimup was great and the grounds were super green and beautiful.

The food!! I had Elite status (highly recommend) The Japanese restaurant was excellent as well as the dining at the main buffet. The steak house was not that great.
Go to the Elite restaurant near the the front lobby for steaks.(although extremely tasty the meat is a bit tougher to chew).
The sports bar was ok, but they need to keep the nats out of the food protectors.
Can be a real turn off.
I never got to through to room service nor did I get to visit the Italian restaurant.

The morning breakfast was absolutely delicious!!! Dining out side was the best and so were the servers!!! TIP THEM WELL!!!

THE BEACH WAS AMAZING!!
The water was turquoise, blue and green. The seaweed was nil to none and the sand was clean, soft and white. There are a few waves but easy to navigate.
The Elite cabanas were great for relaxing. Beach chairs are numerous but get there early. Elites have a private beach bar as well!

I didn't get in the bar pool, the water was cloudy and crowded. However, the salt water pool looked good.

The elite bar off the lobby was nice and the drinks were strong! Unfortunately, the blended drinks were full of ice chunks. So don't get those there. Go to the beach bar for that. The coffee stand is great. Go early!

Our recent stay at this RIU property in Punta Cana was unfortunately one of the most disappointing experiences we've had with the brand, which is especially frustrating given that we are loyal RIU guests who have stayed at their resorts more than 10 times around the world.
We paid for Elite Club Oceanfront upgrade, expecting an elevated experience. Upon arrival, we accidentally checked in at the regular desk because the Elite Club chick-in signage was not clear. We were initially given a very small room with 2 double beds which was not what we booked. At the very least we expected a King bed and an oceanfront view, as that is what we paid for. After going back to the front desk and expressing our concerns, the staff did correct the situation and moved us to a swim-out room. While this was appreciated, it still did not include the ocean view we paid for.
Housekeeping throughout the week was inconsistent. Dirty dishes were left in the room, and the snack and mini fridge were not restocked until we specifically asked for it to be addressed. The dishes were there our entire stay.
Another major issue throughout the resort was the amount of smoking and vaping. Cigarette butts were everywhere - including floating in the pools and scattered around the common areas. For a resort environment, this was extremely unpleasant and poorly managed.
Maintenance and cleanliness also seemed to be lacking. One of the busiest public restrooms in the resort only had one working faucet.

Room was musty smelling and the room fridge was never restocked, even though we well tipped the housekeeper every day. The room was in disrepair: living room TV had no remote and didn’t work. Closet door needed two hands to open and close. Large section of trim in bathroom missing. I will give the dining and most of the pool service staff a great job, they were awesome! Guess tipping people in person makes all the difference.

This is our second time staying at the resort. The first time we enjoyed it more. We couldn’t get a regular soda anywhere but going to their store to buy it and there was one choice, coke. Some of us can’t drink diet because of allergies to the sweetener. We aren’t much on alcoholic drinks but it was that or water. We were on the front side of the resort and right outside our door all you could smell was sewage. We wanted a king room and got 2 double beds instead. They did do a very nice display in my room, unrequested, for my birthday, which was very nice. Overall we enjoyed our stay but not as much as the first time.

Facility is great (pool, rooms, dining areas, beach, spa, etc) everything is exceptionally clean and comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great variety and quality of food and drinks.
However, programs and activities are performed by amateurs and are boring.

The room was spotless! The staff was absolutely amazing!! Especially those in the restaurants! The resort is very welcoming, with lively and relaxing atmosphere. The food was surprisingly good seeing it’s an all inclusive. I’m already planning my trip back!

The front desk staff Robert was rude and I asked for an upgraded twice and he never looked he just said no. My husband wasn’t happy about his room and he called and they wanted to charge me the double the price. Also they don’t tell you nothing about the hotel nor do they give you a map. You have to ask the staff where things are. Also the food is terrible. The cleaning people come to your room twice a day when the hotel supposed to be full that don’t make sense. I will not recommend this hotel to my enemy. The also stated they was going to send a birthday cake with balloons to the room. Never received it

I am writing to formally lodge a serious complaint regarding the discriminatory treatment I experienced at the beach volleyball court on Jan 23rd and the subsequent failure of your management team to address the issue.

The Incident: During my stay, I participated in the beach volleyball activities organized by the hotel. One of your staff members (the activity coordinator with dreadlock) repeatedly and unfairly picked on me, criticizing my play in a manner that was not applied to any other guests. It was evident that this was not about the rules of the game, but a targeted and biased attitude toward me.

Management’s Failure to Follow Up: What makes this experience even more unacceptable is the lack of accountability from your management team. I reported this specific incident to the management desk on two separate occasions. With the manager named Diamond. Both times, I was promised a formal response and a resolution. However, I have received zero follow-up to date.

This neglect is a clear indication that my concerns—and the issue of discrimination—are not being taken seriously by Riu Palace Macao. Being targeted by staff and then ignored by management has significantly distressed me and ruined the vacation I traveled from Ottawa to enjoy.

This is our third time staying here & we would go back again. The beach is expansive, with lots of palm trees so there's always as much sun or shade as you'd want & lounge chairs are never an issue. The staff are so friendly & accomodating. There is a wonderful variety of delicious food...(I love fish, & there was always a different selection of freshly grilled seafood everyday). Instead of lots of loud music on the beach, you'll relax to the sound of the waves, punctuated by the friendly staff offereng to deliver a cool drink. We love it!

The food was disgusting, barely even edible. The room was infested with ants and other sorts of bugs, unclean, and smelled horribly of mildew regardless of how long we left the door open. All of our clothes now smell horribly of this mildew smell and we’re left damp.

Everything, except Sport Bar (Need more attention), was super amazing; I recommend and I’ll definitely comeback with my family. The Food was 1-A (EXCELLENT) the service very, very friendly, the hotel, his installation and rooms very clean; the other’s Bars very nice, the animation staff very funny, entertaining and friendly. The Disco super 🥰🙏 In short, I was left crazy, delighted and I’ll comeback next summers 🏝️ ☀️

We had travel delays, tried to contact the property and they weren't sure they'd have a room for us, saying we were a no-show. We just were informing them we would be delayed, and the lady on the phone said \"We can't help you with that,\" and nearly hung up. When we arrived, the internet kept dropping us for the first several days, and our key cards kept locking us out of our room. We were quite frankly really exhausted from a busy month of work and just wanted a break, but between flight complications, and the resort not helping us, and fiddly frustrations once we arrived, this was just a messy couple of days getting there and getting situated... Once we got settled in though, we started to enjoy our time, but we were not overly impressed and said we would likely try another resort on a next visit to the DR.
