Catalonia Riviera Maya can be a good option if you’re visiting Quintana Roo on a budget, but there are a few things to keep in mind before booking.

First, there isn’t a traditional beach—just a small bay where you can swim. It’s still enjoyable, but it may not meet expectations if you’re looking for long sandy stretches.

Restaurant reservations are quite limited. For example, during our 9-night stay, we were only able to book 4 dinners. You can try going to the restaurants around 6 PM to check for last-minute availability (often around 9 PM), but it’s not guaranteed. Also, meals are restricted to one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert per person.

Rooms are decent if you book a deluxe option, though they could definitely use some renovations. The resort grounds are well-maintained, and most of the staff are friendly, though we did encounter a few less welcoming interactions.

Food overall is average—definitely edible, but not a highlight of the stay.

On the positive side, the spa and gym facilities are excellent. The Italian restaurant stood out with great service, especially from Alejandra and Lucas.

Overall: A decent budget-friendly resort with some trade-offs, especially in dining and beach quality.

The resort appears to be older but my room had signs of being renovated to be modern with an updated bathroom. The resort is clean with staff sweeping, collecting used drink cups, etc. Housekeeping did a great job keeping my room cleaned daily. The staff at the restaurants and pool were friendly. I booked my reservation at the resort using Expedia in order to join friends who were also staying at the resort. At the time of my booking, I was not made aware of the different tier reservations (VIP, etc.). My friends checked in two days before me and had the upgraded VIP booking. When I checked in, I was unaware of the tier bookings and requested to have the same tier booking as my friends so that I can access the VIP pool, restaurants, etc. but was denied the request by the front desk as there was no room available to match my friends booking tiers. This impacted my time spent with friends at the resort considering I could not join them in the areas they were allowed to be in. I would suggest including the tier information at the time of booking to avoid confusion when traveling with large groups who have separate bookings. Additionally, most of the reservation required restaurants were booked for 3 days after my arrival which left me with limited dinner options during my 4 night stay. Overall, the rate that I paid for my stay was comparable to my experience.

You had to make reservations for certain restaurants as not all are open all the time. The restaurant schedule is confusing. Some people were getting a tour and things explained to them but we got nothing explained to us about the property. It was check in and nothing. Also note there’s different levels of service you get with the color of your band. Loved though that you don’t have to wake up at 7am to find seats at the beach and it was more relaxing vs wild with kids.

Everything was wonderful, but the elevators kept breaking down. I’ve been there three times and never experienced any breakdowns before. Also, my air conditioner was VERY loud! Maintenance came to fix it, but that only worked temporarily. I’ll still go back there, but I hope everything is fixed.

This resort does NOT welcome expedia customers! This resort classifies expedia members by providing a bright yellow bracelets to expedia members! Once emplyees sees the bright yellow bracelets they ignored us and give priority to their members! They also give expedia members ripped dirty beach towels, corner rooms with stained floors , mold in the showers, no drawers in bedroom, as they give priority to members when it comes to restaurant reservations, expedia members dont get the chance to eat at their various restaurants because they are always booked according to the resort. The resort is high on requesting tips for everything.if ypu dont tip dont expect to get drinks on time, angel at the pool bar refused to add chili powder to one of my drinks but to members of the resort it was okay ! I do not recommended this hotel to anyone safe your money for a better more welcoming resort who really care about their customers as a whole including expedia members ! Avoid feeling like an outcast from the treatment from Employees starting with people at the reception!!

Overall everything was good,
The buffet and the al la carte were excellent. Some minor issues we had were; it was difficult finding a place to get American currency at a fair exchange, would recommend getting any money exchanged before trip.
The beach access from the resort was limited, but alright for us. Might not be as great for a young family wanting to spend their time on the beach.
Not all the entertainment was family oriented.
The music by the pool was quite loud. They were catering more to the 20-30 age group.

Property itself was nice but dated. Looks like they completed a make over but failed to add additional charging outlets in the rooms. The electrical outlet that were located were being used by lamps. outlets and switches were either falling apart or simply broken. Property did not have a children's swimming pool area per sea. It's an older property but very well maintained. Food was to be desired I would give the food a poor rating with very limited choices to make despite it being a buffet style. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The resort is extremely noisy: construction and loud music trying to mask the construction. There is not one quiet spot in the entire resort. There are not enough chairs by the pools so we did not have a place to sit after swimming. the view from the beach is construction concrete slaps. There is an extremely aggressive membership sales team that is relentless and will stop to lying and manipulation to make a sale.

I’m very disappointed with my stay at Catalonia Riviera Maya. The property felt overbooked — there was rarely space in the lounge, by the pool, or on the beach. Unfortunately, the beach itself was mostly not swimmable, slippery stones and the only swimmable area was covered with seaweed that had an unpleasant smell.

Customer service was not attentive or responsive to what was happening on the property. There is ongoing construction, which makes the environment very noisy. I specifically booked this vacation to escape noise and relax, but even in the room near the pool I could clearly hear construction and sounds from surrounding rooms. The sound insulation is very poor — you can hear everything, even chairs moving next door.

I have stayed at another Catalonia hotel before and had a great experience, so I expected the same level of comfort and service. Sadly, this location did not meet those expectations. Please consider this before booking if peace, quiet, and relaxation are important to you.

What really stood out was the cleanliness — everything was spotless, fresh, and very well maintained. It made the whole stay feel comfortable and relaxing from the moment we arrived.
The all-inclusive food was another major highlight. There was a great variety, everything tasted fresh, and it was wonderful not having to worry about extra costs while still enjoying high-quality meals and drinks.
The amenities truly completed the experience. From the pools and common areas to the little thoughtful touches throughout the property, everything was designed to make the stay easy, enjoyable, and stress-free.

The room was clean. We had the do not disturb sign up and a staff member came into the room anyways. We didnt ask for our room to be cleaned another day and they still came in and left a note saying they couldnt clean our room as we left electronics out. Also you can only book the restaurants once you get there so we didn\"t get to try many. Only got 3 out of the 8 nights we were there. Some of the staff were a bit rude others very very kind. We asked when we arrived for a late check out were told to come back closer to the end of our stay. That we could for an extra charge. I did come back and ask they said yo come back the morning we were leaving. I went down at 7 am and was told they didnt do that and we needed to check out at 12 noon. So wasn't super happy with that. Over all it wasnt bad but for the money we spent I expected more.

Would recommend water shoes. There were lots of upsidedown jellyfish and other creatures if you were to go in the ocean.

We loved this resort. Rooms were great, we booked two privileged level rooms. They were so clean. The staff were friendly. Food was delicious. Suggestion to be sure to book your reservations for dinner’s the night you get there for the whole time. We were able to get into three reservations. And we did have dinner one night at Beloved. We spent a day at each of the five pools. Loved the two swim up bars. Make sure to check the theatre schedule as we found the shows to also be worth it. Great selection of items in both of the shops as well.
We also loved that we could walk to the marina. Enjoyed watching the dolphins and eating at the burrito restaurant. We were able to swim at the beach without beach shoes, although it is a little rocky in spots. I would recommend taking a snorkel and mask as we purchased one there. There are a lot of fish to see just at the resort in the ocean. Definitely would recommend this resort.

The restaurants were excellent. They had a variety of food options including healthy food, drinks and snacks. Everyone working in the hotel was professional and friendly. We had excellent service. The pool was cold. The beach is rocky and do not access direct to the ocean. There is a barrier with a swimming area in the ocean. There were no many entertaining options. The bar area at night was limited. But overall we had a great experience. We had 2 tours. The one to cenotes were excellent!

The resort was very beautiful. The room was updated and was cleaned almost twice a day.
A lot of the staff were very friendly but if you had questions you needed to go to the front desk. Most of the staff did not speak any English.
You only receive 2 glass bottles of water in your room and you cannot get bottles of water anywhere on the resort.
We even went to the front desk and asked for more water and we were told no, they will send someone to our room.
They brought 2 extra glass bottles of water.
You do get a mini fridge in your room and it was stocked daily with assorted soda and 2 cans of beer.
We left a tip and note asking housekeeping for extra towels and more beer.... nope. I guess 10usd was not enough.
At any given time the water that was available was filtered water they serve you in a cup.
There is also no wait staff for around the pool or beach areas.
Another interesting bit was they do not serve any alcohol before 11am. Strange.

We arrived at the resort at 10:30 pm and all the restaurants and bars were closed.
We were told that there was a restaurant opening at 11 but they did not serve alcoholic drinks.
If we wanted a drink we would have to wait for the night club to open....
After hours delayed at the airport a person just wants a stiff drink and food, not waiting around for a night club.
Strange.

The bed in our room was extremely hard and uncomfortable.

Th AC was at 76 degrees. I went to the front desk three times and told them. They sent one guy the first day and he told me they will call me later which they didn’t. I went the next day and told them and they sent a different maintenance guy. He tried but said the AC was not circulating. We had another room for kids and their AC worked very well. On the 4th day I called an they said they will send someone. Nothing was ever done.

They didn’t try to accommodate us by switching rooms. Front kept saying they’re waiting for the manager.

The bathroom sink was linking and I also addressed that to them because the counter kept getting wet. Two different maintenance guys looked at and said they have to get approval. Staff at the front desk were very rude.

Food and drinks were good. That’s it! I wouldn’t recommend this resort.

Had the worst experience with the security team and guest services on my last day there (today). Guest services lady was rude, talking in Spanish to other staff about me in a rude way (I DL a translator app on my daughter’s iPad so I could understand what she was saying). Security manager wouldn’t look at the cameras, even while saying there were cameras at the location it went missing. I asked them to check the “staff only” area as my map showed that’s where my iPhone was last seen before it was likely turned off. Security manager wanted to follow his “process” by flipping my bed mattresses & going through my belongings to rule out I didn’t have it. I recorded a bit of it- I couldn’t believe how ridiculous all this was. They had no intention to help. They lied continuously. I called them out on their lies (I.e. I asked if the staff only area was a locker area, guest service lady said no, although staff were walking out of there with purses and bags, and coming out without it). They wouldn’t let me use their phone to call the police to file a complaint. The whole situation was so messed up. I’ve heard of horror stories like this, but never encountered it firsthand until now. Entertainment staff, cleaning staff and restaurant staff were excellent. Guest services needs to get rid of this lady, & the security team really needs a new boss. Definitely going to be staying at better quality hotels in the future. Won’t be going back there. My phone was eventually turned in by a guest

Yes, front desk staffs were rude and not supportive at all. I was there with my family, including an infant. The room they gave me was licking water. They didn’t replace me with room until next day at 3pm. We had to sleep in a room full of water, I had to keep my infant at the bed for 48 hours. I could not let him be in the floor. They didn’t offer me any compensation, neither any empathy. I strongly recommend no to this place. Beach is terrible and the buffet has the same cheapest food everyday. Strongly recommend NO. You will not get what you’re paying for. The picture and reality is completely different. The photos are AI, I m not sure, how they get their hotels ratings, could be fake too.

The room was clean and the housekeeping staff were wonderful. We booked a romance package so we arrived to fresh fruit, chocolates, and sparkling wine. Our AC unit worked but not as well as it should have, we talked to the front desk and the next day the maintenance people came and tried to fix it. It was better than when we got there, once they were done. All the staff was friendly and very helpful. The facility is a little bit older and the resort is smaller than some, but the food was fantastic and the bartenders were fun and attentive. I loved that we could walk down to the Marina area where there are stores and restaurants. The food both on and off the resort was great, but the tacos down by the Marina were AMAZING!!! Authentic and delicious. Safe walking there and back both day and night. Golf carts were available for rental also. The spas was also available and worth the money. Overall a great experience, just need to update the resort a bit.

The staff was amazing. However, the food options at the buffets were no good. In order to have a “decent” meal you have to make reservations at the theme restaurants. Also, the drinks are “all inclusive” but only for the cheap liquor. To get mid grade liquors like Patron, Malibu or Jack , you have to be a “Gold member”. Other than that. It was a pleasant experience.

We weren’t even able to check in because I have a service dog. I had called prior to booking if they allowed service dog.. they had said yes as long as we had documentation. Which I did! The lobby was so busy and chaotic - I’m glad we didn’t stay. The staff was rude. Imagine I had fly down for the weekend… This hotel doesn’t deserve any stars

The property and the area around the property is extremely safe. My family and i rented a glof cart and drove all over the compound. We found hidden parks and beaches. We left the resort and ventured out almost eveyday

In most, I liked the place! The staff is awesome, friendly, and professional. The entertainment team made the day go fast, very fun. The restaurants also were great. My concern is about the beach, rocky and the water was not clear. Is it possible to removes the rocks, so it’s easier for us to go to the water and enjoy?

We were genuinely impressed! We have been to many resorts and truthfully this was one of our favourites! I have a life threatening allergy to some foods and they were so helpful! The chefs even came out to meet me and they made an allergy card! I was truly grateful! The food was awesome! We also loved snorkelling and renting a golf cart! So fun!!!! The only thing we didn't like is that we paid good money for two rooms of equal value ( the second one for our adult kids). The second room was not nearly as nice as our first one ( even though it cost the same). The door wouldn't lock and it was clearly a lower scale room. We requested a change and they said we would be without a room for most the day ( between 11am and 3) in order to swap, so we settled. Other than that, the resort was amazing!!!

Primeramente el servicio exrerior en ninguna area exicte ,en los restaurants ppr lo general malo,no estaban pendiente de nada,salvo en alguno en 2 steakville y en blove,buena atencion Ivan ( steakbille) Arturo y Carlos (ayuda a los huspedes) las habitacion no estaba mala ,limpieza mala,,,solo limpian lo elemental,no soy tomador pero los bares abren a las 10:00 am y cierran a las 2:00 pm incluyendo el pricipal ,cerca de la recepcion,la playa un desastre,la mantenian con mucho efuerzo limpia,pero demasiadas rocas y dificil accseso ,en general no les recomiendo este hotel,la comida no estaba mala pero no variedad,quesos y jamones bien limitada,espacio pequen̈o,

We COMPLETELY enjoyed our stay, as we enjoyed the Romance Suite with Privilege classification. The staff were all phenomenal (concierge, bartenders, waitstaff, and spa employees). The food options were above average, and the room was cozy! We would definitely consider returning. This was my second stay at a Catalonia property and seek them out whenever feasible.
