This was my first visit to this resort the staff were very helpful and very friendly. We enjoyed the pool and beach every day we were there. Lots to do for the family that wants activities close. The only bad thing I have to say about our stay is that we only had one day of hot water in our shower even after having maintenance come look at it.

Rooms were nice and clean. The staff was lovely. The food and the buffet was good although it got a little tiring after five days. My only complaint or concern is that there are not enough lounge chairs around the pools so you have people come early in the morning and put their towels down and then leave to do whatever they’re gonna do just to basically save the chair for later.. The other thing is that there’s a pool I think is pretty much the party pool and oh my God they never stop playing techno and rap music. I understand that they’re trying to create a fun environment, but when you look around at all the people some of them boomers and the rest families with the young children, it doesn’t make any sense to always have music for teens and 20s.

Hotel was beautiful, spread out, tons of animals walking around which were always fun to spot.

Pools were nice and large, kinda wish there was more for kids - slides for instance.

Food was alright. Main buffet I would end up with cold food frequently but otherwise it was fine. I liked that they rotated theme nights to keep it fresh and different. We ate at the Mexican, Steakhouse and Italian restaurants and all were good
Beach buffet and pool buffet were both good, airy, nice atmosphere and I preferred the food.

Room was big, bathroom was large. It was damp from the humidity - sheets were damp and my clothes were usually a little damp. Bathing suits took days to dry so bring multiple. We did have difficulty with hot water but they came to fix it.

We stayed in building 22 and it had a nice lounge in the middle. Cleaning staff did a great job

Beach was a cove which is great for kids and it keeps the seaweed at a minimum. They were cleaning what did make it through every morning.

Lobby is beautiful, drinks were plentiful and delicious.

Had a great week, would return

Beautiful property and friendly staff. Food options were very limited for people adhering to gluten free and dairy free diets. Even having scrambled eggs was difficult because it's mixed with cheese. If you wanted plain eggs, you had to wait in the omelette line, which took a while. Also, options like plain rice were not offered. First time that I've lost weight at an all-inclusive resort. Also, the chair in the room was very uncomfortable and we could not enjoy the balcony because it faced west and the sun was too bright in that direction in the afternoon. Also, monkeys run along all the balconies and one even snuck into our room before we shooed it out. Also, the seating in the resort lobby and bars were very uncomfortable and outdated.

We had an amazing stay at this resort. The wildlife was amazing. The pools were amazing. The beach was even better. Staff was very friendly and cordial one thing that we were not pleased with the cleanliness of the room. The room was big. It was nice. Shower was big but after being there for a couple days, it was like the floor was never swept. It wasn’t mopped it was like walking outside. The very last day prior to leaving they did not even come into our room and clean anything that day they had a coffee pot, but the coffee pot had no cup so we had no cups to drink coffee with the buffet was amazing. The restaurants were amazing. They go their way to get you what you want.

Very clean room, we had a junior suite. Bathroom door is a shuttered door, not a solid door. There were no wash cloths. Only 1 hand towel and 2 bath towels. These are minor issues. We were next to our pool. Our room didn’t look over the pool or ocean but it is a quiet resort. Staff are wonderful and food was great. Many different restaurants to choose from. You need to book specialty restaurants 1-3 days ahead. But still all inclusive. It was a great vacation.

We enjoyed our stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of things to do on the premises a specially kids club. Glad that hotel finally made improvements to kids club: air conditiorers were installed- prevent kids from overheating, splash area now has a water slides, playground replaced to newer, bigger one, computer games available (Xbox), overally little one was happy. Hotel constantly making improvements and it is great.

Let’s start with the room service. We had to ask for towels at least 4 times during our 1 week stay. Towels were old, raggedy and literally falling apart. They didn’t stock our mini feodge daily and our amenities were never restocked (aside from the shampoo and body wash).

Anytime we had a question we had to go to the client service center and they tried to sell us a timeshare EVERY TIME.

In order or have dinner at one of the restaurants, other than the buffet, you had to make reservations at most 72 hours in advance, in person at the service center. You couldn’t just call or make them for the entire stay (which in our case was only 1 week).

Food and drinks were mostly bad. I got food poisoning the 2nd night there. So did 2 other people in my party. The pharmacy at the resort charged 9 times more than the normal cost for medication. The same meds I bought in the resort for $500 mxps I bought for $60 mxps outside the resort.

All pools closed at 8 pm and the towel and activities center closed 6pm.

We witnessed a lot of clients complaining, on a daily basis, for the same and other reasons.

During our stay, there was a child accident at the children’s pool that did not have a life guard on duty and staff escalated the situation by fighting with one of the child’s family members. Further there was not first aid administered by the resort. Two tourists rendered aid to the child.

On a positive note, most of the staff and servers were friendly and polite.

Traveling as elderly, with elderly handicapped, this resort is too large. There are too many steps and not enough elevators. The resort is confusing and the shuttles are available but there are not enough and they don't deliver you close enough to where you are going. This resort should be listed as not suitable for the elderly.

We had a great stay at the Occidental resort. The beach was lovely and clean, the food was delicious and varied, and the property was massive! We loved all the creatures and nature that were around us. A special thank you to Hanssen, the guest services manager, for making our stay so worthwhile. I've never met someone so dedicated to providing a positive customer experience. Also, the omelette chef Hugo who works at breakfast deserves a raise! He makes the most consistently delicious omelette in the world. You can tell he's a real pro chef.

Everything was great. Staff, food, accommodations. But what stands out the most is how it feels like you’re in the jungle. So much trees, vegetation and wildlife made it feel all the more tropical and unique. Plus having Xcaret right attached, always gave us something to do without even leaving the resort. We are very well traveled, and have been to other resorts all over the world and in Mexico. Although the area is pretty, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, the food and the service at the restaurants is very poor. A lot of foods that are overcooked or very blend, you can come to a buffet and barely find anything to eat. A lot of Luke warm/ cold foods on the bar. At restaurants, the menus have very few options, long wait times for the food to come out, and no servers to refill your drink or check on you after they take your order. The beach was also very mediocre. Much smaller than we imagined from the photos.

Staff was friendly and nice but amenities were awful. It was so hard to get towels restocked and we never got anything else in the restroom restocked (soap bars, vanity kits, shower caps). I waited 5 days for a bathroom mat. They also make you reserve dinners that are going to be outside the buffets but only allow you to do them 72 hours in advanced. You have to do them in person from 7am-6pm and there are no exceptions. Who has time to visit this desk with one employee and a line out the door 3 times during a week stay? It is ridiculous. Things are not well organized, places don’t stay open to adhere to customers, and you have to plan all your outings based on when things will be open at the resort to ensure you eat and get pool towels. The biggest downfall is the food and drinks. The drinks are all fake and nothing is natural. They water down their alcohol so much and add fake color and syrups to everything. My husband and I both got food poisoning at the beginning of the trip. Not only did we get really sick but the pharmacy in the hotel is soooo over priced. I had to buy some stomach medicine and it was $500 MX. When we went to town, I restocked on the same medicine and it was $120 MX. Nothing but the buffets, restaurants, and rooms are air conditioned or have fans. I’d you want any relief from the heat, you would have to go back and hang out in your room. I would not recommend anyone to stay here and the 2 stars are because the most staff was nice and friendly.

Absolutely great. Our first room was not near trees and we asked for a change before we unpacked and they accommodated us for a fee. We had monkeys and birds come by daily in building 21. All the staff were friendly and nice. The buffets were fine, no food sickness, no flies. A carts were good. Show at 9:30pm and a nightclub. We tipped in pesos ($20,50,100) and we tipped all kinds of service and workers just for fun. I did not feel pressured to tip. If you wake up before 9am you can find a chair somewhere (three pools, two ocean spots). Snorkling was great, lifeguards were helpful, the fish were amazing.

Everything is far so bring good walking shoes. There is a Trolly if you are patient. Walkways, pools, restaurants are accessible.

The park next door was incredible and worth every penny. You can walk or boat there and return for activities if you don’t get it all done in one day.

The only constructive criticism I have is the inability to book a room in the building you want and I do not like the deer in a pen. They did not look happy or healthy and other deer were walking around the park free and friendly.

The wildlife here is off the charts!!! I loved this place. Been to many countries and Mexico over 10 times. This spot is a gem if it’s you are into walking, adventure and wildlife!

Bedspread was dirty upon check in. No beach access except the small bay. It is much, much smaller than it looks in pictures. It is NOT all-inclusive. Coffees are extra. Lobster is extra. There are beach chairs, but not enough. And only \"club\" members are allowed to use 3/4 of the chairs. There are several restaurants, reservation only. You reserve the day before, but not more than 2 days. The restaurants were usually all booked during our 8 night stay. The food at the restaurants was pretty terrible except the oriental. The steakhouse was the worst. The steak had the texture of a kitchen sponge.

The food was good but the buffet got boring same food daily. The pool snack bar seemed better at lunch. The Asian restaurant was the best for reserved dinners. Italian was ok, presentation was nice but small quantities and long wait. The resort lacks activities we did get bored. We only left once to the Xcaret park. When they say pool party it’s only a couple games. Music was only played for half the day at the pool and beach. We had 11 people in our group with kids all ages and 6 adults .The shows were a hit and miss. The Kareokee was awful. The singer in the lobby area could be so much better. Rooms were good and kept clean with the fridge stocked daily. The resort lacks a coffee shop. The wildlife was the best part, very unique as they roam freely. The resort is too far away to do most excursions. The grounds are well kept.

This was our 4th visit, we've stayed on the 2nd and 3rd level the previous visits, this time we were on the ground level and noticed bug bites when waking in the morning, mainly on our legs. We did find and killed mosquitos in the shower each time we used it. Otherwise, the room was cleaned and stocked daily.

Relaxing dress code for ala carte restaurants for men was an improvement as we didn't have to pack as much clothing.

The change to the Pacos Tacos menu was a disappointment as we loved the tacos cowboy and the spicy clear sauce they used to serve.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the beach club for breakfast and the grill chef (woman) was INCREDIBLE! Omelets and eggs were our daily breakfast.

Pools were, as always, beautiful and clean. Lagoon is also always beautiful but packed around lunch and through the afternoon, so it becomes harder to swim.

We will be back again, someday.

The restaurants we were able to get a reso at were delicious and they had a wide variety of tasty drinks. What I liked the most:

The hotel has an incredible amount of land. The gardens are beautiful, and there are many swimming pools. The beach is calm, perfect for children, and free of seaweed. Xcaret Park is located right next to the hotel, and you can easily walk there and enjoy all the activities the park offers.

The buffet restaurant is very spacious and never feels overcrowded. Breakfast offers a wide variety of options, and the omelets are delicious. There are also convenience shops inside the hotel, which is very helpful if you forget anything.

The nightly shows were entertaining, especially the Michael Jackson show and the Il Divo trio, which I loved. The musician who plays every night in the lobby also creates a very pleasant atmosphere.

Points for improvement:

The lunch options at the beach restaurant could be improved. The rooms are starting to show signs of age and need some renovation; our room also had a slight musty smell.

The pools were very cold due to the time of year and were not heated, so very few people were swimming. I understand that heating such large pools can be complicated, but the children’s pool, which is small, should definitely be warmer during this season.

Finally, the reception should improve the check-in process to make it faster and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy.

It’s so nice to stay at this resort with so many animals, birds and lush flora and fauna. We paid for the added basic all inclusive Xcaret for our stay. Everyday we would spend a few hours at Xcaret, head back to the resort for lunch and beach and snorkeling. Always plenty to see and do with the resort and Xcaret.

We absolutely love the property grounds and the natural ecosystem that has been maintained. One of the reasons we chose this location is for the wildlife present on the grounds. Overall, the hotel is nice. However, needs some updating in the rooms. And, better attention needs to be made when cleaning and stocking the rooms. light switches and door handles were filthy—no fitted sheets on the beds. The bottom of the shower was grimy. Staff needs to restock rooms a little better—no facecloths or coffee packages for a.m. Food in restaurants was mediocre, but when cooking on such a large scale, one cannot expect too much. Staff were absolutely amazing!

We had the most amazing time here! Stayed 2 weeks and I cannot find fault. Between the staff and the beautiful resort. I would highly recommend Occidental Destination Xcaret to everyone who wants either a restful vacation or a family trip!

The staff did a great job keeping the rooms clean and refrigerator stocked. The waiters and waitresses were great. Wish there was more of a beach but overall enjoyed our 6 days there

My wife and I just got back from a 2 week stay, the hotel was spotless, staff were incredible and friendly. We had no complaints about the food and we are looking forward to be returning.
