We had an excellent stay at this resort and truly enjoyed our vacation. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our entire stay. Everyone went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. The servers at the buffet restaurant were especially wonderful—always kind, professional, and very attentive. We ate at the buffet most of the time because the food was always fresh, delicious, and offered a wide variety of options to satisfy every taste and dietary preference. The entertainment team also did an amazing job organizing fun activities throughout the day and evening, keeping guests of all ages engaged, happy, and entertained. The resort was extremely clean, the amenities were very well maintained.
The only disappointment was the amount of sargassum on the beach. We were lucky enough to enjoy the ocean for the first four days, but during the last three days it was impossible to swim because so much seaweed had washed ashore. As it accumulated, it began to rot and created a very unpleasant smell. We were surprised that the beach wasn’t cleaned more frequently.
That said, this did not ruin our vacation. We still had a fantastic time and would absolutely return in the future. In fact, we enjoyed our stay so much that we have already recommended this resort to our friends, who will be visiting next month. Overall, we highly recommend this resort for its outstanding service, cleanliness, delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and exceptional staff

The hotel, staff, and food was great BUT there was too much sargassum for 5 days and could not go swimming in the beach. We had to go to Cozumel and Cancun to access clean beaches. This posed an inconvenience since we had to spend extra money to travel to these places. It seems that sargassum has been a bigger issue as the years go by. Despite loving the premises, we probably won’t be going back.

Everyone is very polite and respectful. Room was cleaned everyday. They even give you a courtesy call in the afternoons to make sure you have everything you need. Food is very great and there's 4 restaurant options. They even have hotdogs and burgers and nachos to snack on right next time the pool. This is our second time going and will continue choosing this hotel. Thank you RIU!

It was great, the only thing that I didn’t like was how the A/C in the room was not cold enough. The lobby is very fresh but the rooms are locked to where the A/C cannot blow any higher past a certain degree

This was our 2nd stay at the RIU and it was just as amazing as our first! The food is incredible, the property is beautifully maintained everything was immaculate from the flowers, to the trees to the walkways. The staff is top notch, making sure we had everything we needed! They were so so friendly! We’re already looking for the next adventure and of course we will be booking with the RIU!!!

I have been to the Riu chain resorts all over and this is hands-down one of my favorites. First of all the hotel itself is gorgeous, and it is frequently cleaned and maintained to the highest of standards. The entire staff is delightful, ranging from those that work in the front lobby to bartenders to waiters. They have remembered me and my specific drink or food orders every time I come back and they are super friendly. I’ve been there twice and I’m already looking forward to booking my third trip this summer. It’s one of the best experiences I’ve had and I really appreciate all the employees there who made my trip magical!

The food isn’t very good. They do have variety of options just not good quality of food. Wish they had coke products for drinks. The staff is attentive and friendly. Not many activities to do on property. The pools are nice but by noon are so hot like swimming in a hot tub. The rooms are designed for couples. They say two beds but they are right next to each other so it’s like one big bed. Also the tub in the middle of the room doesn’t make sense. The shower is right in front of the beds so if you’re traveling with someone who isn’t your partner makes it uncomfortable and you have to work around it.

We just got back tonight! This was our second time staying at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya and it will not be our last! We truly love it there! The staff is so friendly! The entertainment team were friendly, fun and always full of energy! The drink service at the pool were excellent…always making sure you had something to drink! A big shout out to Adriana! She worked the pool cart and the pool bar! This lady has the best personality, funny as heck and is like the energizer bunny! Didn’t matter what day it was, she remembered what you drank! Love her!

This is a beautiful resort, but unfortunately the customer service experience was extremely disappointing. Due to one of our travelers being hospitalized, we needed a modification to our reservation booked through Expedia. While staying at the resort, 2 staff members assured us the matter would be resolved, but after multiple follow-ups, emails went unanswered and promised callbacks never happened.
Even after providing hospital documentation, neither Expedia nor I received any meaningful response. To make matters worse, staff members later refused to provide their names when contacted by phone, and multiple assurances of follow-up were never honored.
Guests spend a significant amount of money to vacation at a resort like this, and in situations involving medical emergencies, customers deserve professionalism, communication, and compassion. The complete lack of accountability and disregard for communication throughout this process was unacceptable.
Because of this experience, I would not recommend this resort and will not be returning. I would strongly encourage future patrons to consider how customer issues are handled here, especially in situations involving emergencies or unexpected circumstances.

The beach was lovely, while everyone around us had the cabanas ours had palm trees for shade instead which was really nice. Food was good for the most part, the Japanese and Italian restaurant were really good! The lunch buffet was definitely one of the stars, had a great variety of food that was really good. The steak house was okay, the fillet I had asked for medium was well done all around the edges and wasn’t medium up until the very middle of the steak. The bartenders were great, the cocktails of the day in the main lobby were phenomenal as well! Room service and staff were super friendly, we’ll definitely be coming back!

The food quality was consistently poor. Most meals were bland or unappetizing, and we found ourselves skipping meals throughout our stay. Breakfast was the only acceptable option, though still average.
We upgraded to the “Elite” level expecting an enhanced experience; however, the only noticeable benefit was access to higher-quality liquor. The designated “Elite” pool lacked food service, entertainment, and overall atmosphere, while the standard pool offered a much more engaging experience. This discrepancy made the upgrade feel unjustified.
The beach conditions were also subpar, with significant amounts of seaweed that appeared to be minimally maintained by the resort.
Additionally, pricing and service issues further impacted our stay. When inquiring about extending one night, we were quoted $1,000—equivalent to the cost of our five-night stay. After booking externally, a minor reservation error (one guest instead of two) resulted in a proposed $600 charge to add a second person. Resolving this took approximately four hours.
During this time, front desk staff displayed unprofessional behavior, including laughing and pointing, which was inappropriate.
Overall, this resort did not provide the quality or service expected. I would not recommend staying here.

The staff was excellent and the property was very clean. The food however was absolutely terrible and very odd. I think i survived off of macaroons and mixed drinks. You would think you could atleast eat a sandwich but the bread was sticky and not toasted, one slice of meat, lettuce with brown spots and a slimy tomato. We had chicken at the Italian restaurant with pink centers, watery Pad Thai at the Japanese restaurant...it goes on. Pay more for another hotel or plan to eat off site.

We loved our stay here. Had never been to an all inclusive and we were really impressed. Everything everywhere so clean. Special touches everyday to our room which was kept up daily. Loved how spacious our room was with well stocked bar and fridge, amazing tub and shower and a beautiful balcony that overlooked the ocean. split time between amazing pools and the beautiful white sand beach laden with ample beach chairs. Also so impressed with how kind and hard working the staff was. Literally everyone from entertainment to desk to dining to cleaning staff always said hello and answered our questions and were genuinely kind and were joking around with us by the end of the trip. Although there are a few restaurant options on site as part of the all inclusive. We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet as everyday there were so many rotating options for breakfast lunch and dinner. Freshly prepared so much variety and a little something for literally everyone. we also enjoyed the 24 hr lounge for late nite snacks and early morning coffee as well as the coffee/dessert bar when we would play games in the evening. The resort is also large enough that you can spread out and either join in all the fun activities or find a quiet nook. we partook in several of the activities and exercise Classes and had so much fun as the staff is engaging and full of energy. Finally, loved how multigenerational this location was with older couples down to young families with children. would go again.

We've been here many times and it never disappoints. The only issue we had was with the included transfer from the airport. I booked 3 elite club rooms for 6 of us, filled out the links they sent us for the transportation provider, destination services, but on arrival at Cancun they only had reservations for 4 of us. We showed all our confirmation emails and eventually got on a van over an hour later. This was after double checking with destination services before we left our airport of origin and also calling expedia customer service before we left. expedia has always given me excellent customer service but they were a little frustrated with destination services when they contacted them to sort out the issue. I had to go to the destination services desk at the resort twice to sort out our return to the airport. Riu, hire a better transfer operator.

Overall, the hotel was comfortable. There were a couple of days that entertainment shows did not start on time or there were no optional options for people who didn't want to go to the \"White Out\" party. Another issue I had was that there were no bath supplies in the rooms. For example, a shower cap, or Q-tips etc--usually these are provided by the hotels. Especially, if you are staying in the \"Elite Club\" sections. Lastly, an elevator needs to be place in more areas than just the reception area.

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous! Amazing staff - shoutout to Enrique, Saul, Fanny, Aldo, Oscar who all made our stay exceptional. Food and drinks very good! Only negative comment is that there is no music/fun at the adults only pool. We brought our own music. Also check-in was a bit complicated for some reason... nothing to complain about. I still give this resort a 5 star. We are already talking about going back :)
