If you want a lounge minimal hotel activity experience and don’t mind families being there then this place will be great for you!

As a younger solo traveler I found the resort to offer minimal fun activities and found myself going off the resort more often than I expected. Overall not a bad hotel, staff are friendly, rooms are good. I did have a slight issue with the store at the hotel and because of this I missed my shuttle transportation to the airport when checking out, however the staff was kind about it. I was definitely upset about that experience but again overall experience was a 7/10.

Do not believe the pictures online! I have stayed at different Riu hotels and Lupita is by far the worst one! I expect better quality when staying at the Riu. Check in was easy. Room looks old and dated. The bathroom was nice. Various animals all over the place. The animas roam around all over the property. The pool was ok. The Riuland kids club was closed my entire stay so my son didn’t get to enjoy it. The animals are all around the pool all day. If you leave your drink or food unattended the animals will grab it. They can climb and will jump on your table to get food. No activities dyeing the day even though it is advertised. The evening entertainment was good, I’ll give them credit for that. The buffet restaurant food is horrible! Limited options and the same food everyday. The evening Maria Bonita restaurant was great. Fresh food cooked to order. Alcohol is generic brand and it very good, so don’t be expect great hard liquor. Staff is very friendly and nice!

I will never stay at this hotel ever again. Riu should close this hotel so they don’t hurt their brand. Again, I have stayed at Riu hotels all over the world and normally have an excellent time. This Riu was so bad, I left a day early and I have never ended my vacation early.

We didn't stay at Lupita. When we arrived they offered us an upgrade to stay at Riu Tequila. We spent our vacation at Riu Tequila and it was the BEST. Thank you again Riu Lupita for the upgrade.

This is a great location, quality and price point if you like a quieter all inclusive experience......as long as you are ok not being on the beach. You can take their free shuttle to their beach access which has free buffet food and drink there or you can walk there in about 30 minutes. The onsite swimming pools appear clean and nice. They have a smaller \"quiet\" pool which lived up to the name.

Most of the staff were very nice. There were a few bartenders who mocked me for my Spanish speaking efforts. The beds were rock hard, like sleeping on the floor. The food options between breakfast and dinner were VERY limited. The wildlife on property was a nuisance—an infestation if you will. There is a shuttle to the beach, that runs every 30 minutes, so that was nice.

The bathroom sink got more hotter than the shower which I found odd. However, wouldn’t mind going back as everything was organized down to the beach transportation.

I recently stayed at this hotel resort and had a mixed experience. On the plus side, the service was amazing from start to finish. We received a welcome drink, and the guest services team was super helpful. However, the food was just okay - nothing spectacular. One thing to note is that the resort isn't directly on the beach, and you'll need to catch a shuttle that runs on a limited schedule. The pool was nice, but the hours were restricted, and I wished it was open 24/7 with swim-at-your-own-risk signs. The rooms were clean but basic, and the beds were extremely hard - almost rock-hard. The bathrooms were decent, but nothing to write home about. Overall, the pros outweighed the cons for us, but I’d recommend being aware of these details before booking. I met some great people while traveling here. I would book again if needed to make a last minute trip.

Horrible hotel. First is was dirty, towels smell, roaches in the room, dirty pool. Then the buffet is garbage with the same things you don’t want to eat all the time and the people that work there are rude, wont even let you take a bowl of fruit to your room without harrassing you about it and asking you questions that don’t apply. One of the things I like es was that they have cats but they ruined that because I think my wife and I are the only ones who des then for 2 weeks except for when I specifically asked the staff to feed them and they acted like I was crazy. Thats maybe half of the horrible stuff. Any other hotel is better, don’t waist your money

Food choices were horrible! Check in was great, thereafter was horrible! Wait staff could not understand English. The only waitstaff was great were Delfino and Santos at the bar. Everyone else was not great! Our anniversary ended up horribly due to us not being accommodated for the restaurant. We kept trying to make a reservation but were told we couldn’t and then when we tried to get food, was told we needed a reservation! Our first experience at a RIU resort was not great at all!

Water in the pool by restaurants wasn’t clear enough and water in the pool in quite area was dirty a lot of bags floatingin the water and stuff from the trees when we got checked in in the room I was shocked The area when the ceiling fan touched the ceiling was full of webs and dirt. The lamp on the wall by the bed was hanging out, was broken. The pictures on the wall they were dirty, and the sheets were dirty. The extra blankets was stiffed as a linen fabric very Very old the view from the room was like Bumped area a lot of pieces of the Building walls. When I booked this resort it did show its four stars resorts I don’t think so!! Dose not has even too it’s very poor. We had to drive to the beach every day about 15-20 minutes I’m very old buses, and we weren’t able to swim in the sea because of seaweed covered almost half of the
Beach because nobody Took care of it . Seaweed season is all over Caribbean area. Any other resorts take care of it we weren’t even able noticed that it is seaweed season. In this resort the smell terrible smell was all around because of the seaweed laying on the beach forever and no access to the sea to swim at all I am very disappointed. I would never recommend to anybody to visit this resort. We paid 600 per person for three days and it was price on sale. I don’t understand the pictures on Expedia showing beautiful rooms and area all these pictures do not match even in 1/3 of a reality. Stuff of the hotel is very very nice.

Room Attendants - Most were very good and went the extra mile for the guests. The Shop Clerk inside the hotel was very helpful.

Cons -

There were two pools - One was kept great and the other quiet pool had leaves and particulars in the water.
There was no direct access to the peach and you have to take a bus to get to it. That was a bummer.
Some of the Front Desk Clerks were not too sure as to what to do in certain situations. They were not proactive.
The toilet bowl had a crack in it. One of the two cups left in my room to make coffee was chipped. Under the bed was not properly cleaned prior to our arrival. Some of the guests were not on their best behavior around other guests. Police Presence was required on one of the evenings we were there.

Disappointing Stay – Would Not Recommend

I stayed at Hotel Riu Lupita for 7 nights on the all-inclusive plan, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. The hotel is clearly outdated — the rooms smelled terrible, and despite their attempt to mask it with eucalyptus, the odor never went away. The mattresses were old and extremely uncomfortable, making it hard to get a decent night’s sleep.

The food was by far one of the worst parts. I actually got sick during my stay. Meals were often bland, poorly prepared, and seemed reheated — especially at the beach club, where even a basic burger was inedible. Speaking of the beach, the listing is quite misleading. The hotel is not on the beach — you need to take a 15-minute shuttle to get there, which wasn’t what I expected when booking.

Drinks were no better. The alcohol used was extremely low quality, and there were no fresh ingredients in sight. Even the lime tasted artificial. The entertainment was mediocre at best, lacking energy and variety.

The only positive I can mention is the staff. The people working there were incredibly sweet, kind, and hardworking. It’s unfortunate they have to work under such poor conditions — they truly deserve better.

Overall, I would not return or recommend this hotel to others. There are far better options in the area for a similar price.

the food was amazing I liked the relaxed atmosphere I like that the rules were not over the top restrictive and and the staff were great especially the entertainment staff and main bartenders. The silent disco was so fun so was the foam party. The night club/disco only played Spanish music shower tiles were really nice in my room and the ac was good my bed was comfortable and the drinks were good.

Three out of five members of our party were ill from what we can only say was from the food from the beach club. Could’ve also been food from the dining room. One evening for dinner as we entered the dining hall. They were cleaning up a large pile of vomit that was left from a gas just moments before we arrived. The availability of food between meal times was scarce. You were offered only a very small variety of leftover fruit chips muffins, and two flavours of ice cream. With there only being two pools one and adult pool, which also had very loud guests at almost all times that could be overheard from our rooms, at 3 PM every day they brought out entertainment, regardless of engagement, they played extremely loud music, even if only a couple of guests were engaged, which was loud and bothersome, we ended up having to go back to our rooms during this time just for some peace and quiet. The choice of drinks was very limited the staff while they weren’t rude weren’t very friendly. For a review I was very surprised at this experience and will definitely not be going back. The rooms were averagely, clean, but two of our rooms that we had had very musty, old odors, coming from the dresser, and the ventilation fan.

The staff were really wonderful. Everyone was kind and willing to help with anything we needed. The food could be improved. It’s buffet style so there were often lukewarm items that should be kept hot or cold. Some days it was hard to find anything that looked appetizing in the main restaurant. The fresh fruit was delicious and always available for meals and snacks. The grounds were beautiful but the room was lackluster. It was not pretty or very decorated but it was clean. The TV reception wasn’t good so the picture was full of static and they weren’t smart TVs so we couldn’t screen share or use our own devices to watch movies. There is an ATM and a currency exchange at the front desk, which was very convenient. We saw wildlife: lizards, coati, sereque, deer, and lots of birds right on the grounds. The beach access was not as convenient as other RIU resorts in the area because there’s no direct path - you need to take a shuttle bus to get there and it’s about a 15 minute trip. This ended up being a minor issue because we didn’t want to spend much time at the crowded beach. This was not a calm, tranquil beach like Akumal. It was full of people and loud music and squeezed between other resort beach areas. It was difficult to walk in the surf because the beach was eroding away. One day a palm tree washed into the ocean, leaving a waist high ledge made of plastic sacks of sand to keep the rest from washing away. There was caution tape up across the whole horizon line. Check-in was considerably long by someone with not experience. Offered us rooms that they were not available and didn’t have our room by the checking time.
The boy at the towel station was extremely rude and disrespectful toward to us when we tried to exchange our towels for clean us they were denied to us because the have “a rule” of only one towel per day. There were not accommodations to anything and upper management seems to have a very cocky attitude when we brought our concerns. Not friendly or willing to listen our concerns.
There only good person was the bus driver which was kind and friendly everyday, but everyone else seems to be so entitled and with a little tiny mind to be able to understand they are providing a service to the people who come from far away to spend a good amount of money to be treated like they are making us a favour which maybe they need to reflect and think that places like this runs because of the tourist. If you’re looking for a place where you want to feel comfortable, welcomed and relax STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

This hotel doesn’t have a beach inside you need to drive 30 min to get to another hotel beach, rooms are very old and small, there’s no elevators at all, only one big pool and one for children, the lobby is very very small it’s not really a lobby it’s more like just an office to check in. This hotel is not what the pictures show at all. Do not recommend at all. Not recommending at all this hotel.

Do not book, pictures are very misleading! I booked because I thought this was a beach front hotel. It is not, you have to wait 30-40 minutes for a bus to take you to a beach that is 15 minutes away. Plan on 2 hours round trip just to enjoy the beach. Pictures also show a big party with entertainment but that is NOT at this hotel. They take you to Riu Tequila on Friday nights for this. A lot of what they advertise is NOT at this hotel but at other Riu hotels. This is a budget Riu hotel. Their Italian restaurant is their small snack bar, the steak place is the kitchen used at the beach (steaks served are flanks), the Mexican place is the only place that is its own restaurant. The buffet is ok but basic, same foods every day, not a lot of variety. A lot of food sat out for a long time. My family of four have had diarrhea 3 days since returning from this place and we are all now on antibiotics.

Their hotel lobby is small like a car rental lobby and their store is very small and limited. A lot of European and local Spanish speaking guests. We were there 5 days and never ran into anyone from the US which we didn’t mind but just to make you aware of the environment. The liquor is very limited, one brand per alcohol type. Other guests complained about the lack of liquor choices and poor quality as well.

The service was great. They do have entertainment at night but it’s a hit or miss. I’ve been to many all inclusive hotels, this was the worst.

The staff was friendly but something that i didn't like was the limited dinning due to some of the restaurants in the resort had only dinner times and after arriving from tours only cold food was available. Limited transportation was also an issue because the beach is on the other side of the hotel and quinta avenida.And the last thing was the towels..you can only change it once a day which was frustrating at times due to needed them for tours and for the pool time.

Property and grounds were very pretty and in great condition. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food presentation was pretty but flavor was terrible. Food was either over cooked, over salted, flavorless and just not good. Drinks weren’t that great either. There also is a really gross smell around the bar (we were thinking it must be the drainage system) that smelled like a combo of body odor and fish sauce. Gym facility was perfect for what was needed (weights, treadmill, elliptical, trx). The beach (there’s an 15 min bus between this resort and the next Riu on the beach) was pretty and had a nice lady out. Overall, it worked for the quick getaway we wanted but it was too bad the food was no good.

I don’t really know how to review this place. For an all inclusive the food was above average. The property was calm and had a lot of wildlife which was nice. The workers and employees were well above average for an all inclusive. The value for the price was excellent. The bus to the beach was okay. The beach was nice, the ocean not able to swim in. Drinks were strong and decent liquor selection. You got a free pass to the Riu party. The nightly entertainment was above average.

I highly recommend this hotel. Very nice staff at the reception. Clean rooms, bathrooms renovated and clean. The hotel is located in a guarded district, among a beautiful garden and golf courses nearby. The company of coatis and capybaras included in the price :) It was wonderful to see these animals so close. Delicious food in the restaurant, a very large variety of dishes for both breakfast and dinner. The drinks at the bar were not to our liking, but the bartender had no problem making us what we asked for. Access to the beach by hotel bus takes about 15 minutes. and the beach is like a fairy tale :) soft white sand, gently shelving beach, no stones, beautiful and safe.

Hector was a great entertainement guy. No room service and got yelled at trying to bring food to relax in my room. The photos used for property arnt even this property. The employees are all amazing. Its the resort, ive stayed at 10 riu and this one was defintely my least favorite. I paud to have a friend hang out for the day was charged like 100 bucks, then decides to stay the night \" drank alot\" proceeded to charge me another 230 for an all day and nignt pass. So an extra 230 from 11pm-12am when nothing is even open and they cared less. The next day i just asked how long to stay the entire 6 days and was only 700..
I felt i was ripped off and no one cared. Wont stay here again, my most enjoyable time was leaving property to the beach on thier advertisement which is RIU palace

Un petit resort tout inclus avec tout à proximité sauf la plage. Nous devions prendre un autobus qui passe à chaque demi-heure pour se rendre à la plage (12 minutes). Quelques fois, l’autobus est plein, nous devons attendre le prochain. Le vendredi soir, super party au RIU Tequila. Attention, encore une fois, autobus au demi-heure, rien ne se fait à pieds.
Le buffet correct mais décevant pour le Mexique.
2 petites piscines. Une tranquille et l’autre pour la famille.
Le kid club était fermé.

The property doesn't have beach access and you have to take a 10 minutes drive shuttle to get to the beach and that area it's limited. Very disappointed and either it's mentioned but very small fine print or not mention at all. The employee are overworked and they are not very friendly! The quality of food and drinks are limited and very poor. Lighting on the main dinning room it's very low and gives a feeling of depression! The hotel advertised as 5 Star. I don't know how it's allowed this kind of false advertising !

Overall I enjoyed the experience. If you’re traveling with a child it is nice to have such a small property. Everything is close. The staff is incredible. However, the shuttle to the beach is inconvenient and the specialized restaurants are terrible. The buffet is good and has a lot of variety. There is a lot to do around the resort but no one at the front desk really told us much. The resort is far from the airport and the excursions. You will not have access to the other Rius. It’s not bad for the price but I’d advise you to spend a bit more and upgrade to a resort on the beach.

The property doesn’t have immediate access to the beach!
The restaurant and bar in the beach area closed at 5 pm so if you plan to stay for the Sunset no food or drinks will be available and you will have no transportation from the hotel to take you back. The beds are extremely firm making it very difficult to sleep. We were offered a mattress topper that helped a lot.

Riu Lupita was overall a lovely experience. If you’re looking for a good all inclusive for a low price this place is it. What I will say is that the rooms leave something for the imagination. The bed was extremely hard, so hard I actually had pain on my hips and back because of it! Food is questionable, you will have to go off the resort to find anything that resembles authentic Mexican food. Drinks are very much the same, don’t expect a margarita made with out a mix. That being said, the bus to the beach was almost always on time and the adults only pool was the perfect place to relax. Enjoy your stay!

My only disappointment was there was an error on my booking and i was not aware of it. I tried to check in on line but it would not allow me too. i e mailed the hotel 4 days in advance but they never got back to me and it caused me to pay an extra $1000 to sort it out. ex[edia customer service was of no help either.

Taxi that took us to the hotel, charged us 3x extra charge, also in the hotel i bought a trip plan to go to Xcaret and other places; they charged me twice. This was my 3rd time coming to Cancun and things have changed to the worse, everyone tries to trick you to pay extra for things that shouldnt be so expensive; i will never come back.

Отель Руи Лупита оставил положительное впечатление. Расположен не на первой линии но есть трансфер каждые полчаса .Занимает 10 минут. Но можно за 10 минут дойти до пляжа через гольф поле. Трансфер позволяет выйти рядом с городом но надо учитывать что трансфер только до 19 часов. Далее надо будет использовать такси 150 пессо. Сувениры в городе дорогие. Оптимально покупать за наличные в Чиченице. Питание в отеле великолепное .Выбор хороший. Ресторан со стейками находится на пляже и туда есть трансфер. Сам ужин занимает более двух часов . Стейк достойный, но не стоит на мой взгляд потраченного времени. В основном ресторане разнообразнее питание. Анимация средняя. Пенная тасовка в бассейне весело. Выезд на вечеринку в Рупиту соседнюю -весело и для разнообразия не плохо. В отеле есть возможность оставить вещи перед вылетом и пользоваться услугами отеля а потом принять душ. Из развлечений есть волейбол и настольный тенис и другая активность. Спиртное разнообразное и большой выбор коктейлей. Вечеринки с караоке на любителя. На пляже лежаков хватает но находятся они под пальмами и чтобы укрыться от солнца приходится их постоянно передвигать. Море не всегда спокойное но не глубокое. В ноябре водорослей было мало. На территории отеля и пляжа безопасно. Могу рекомендовать отель в соотношении цена-качество.

Food was mundane and not much taste. Many people including myself had one form or another of food poisoning. No drink service at all, had to fetch you own. Have had stayed at other rius and had great experience so our expectations were quite high and they totally fell flat here. 3 star at best. Very disappointed

Small resort, nice and cozy and easy to walk through and find everything. One main bar and pool, plus a side pool for quiet relaxation. We didn't use all the amenities, but we did notice a gym, tennis court, chess board, ping pong table, and a kid's club (I know I am missing certain things). There were 3 specialty restaurants: Mexican food, Italian food, and Steakhouse. Good size resort for a small trip (i.e. one week). There were also extra excursions that were offered for an extra price. Riu Lupita did make special accomodations for my partner's birthday, which was really something extra! 8/10 great resort for the cost.

I never leave a review but I was so please with the hotel the food was excellent, shopping was very easy because the bus take you to 5 ave. Right in the heart of playa del Carmen prices much cheaper the Cancún, the bus take you to the beach and the beach bar and restaurant are very convenient it’s a lots of palms so plenty of shades, you are in contact with the nature so you can see different kind of animals playing around if you don’t bother them they don’t bother you , its small ruins at walking distance , you feel safe to walk around because it’s a gated area so no uninvited guess or robbers are allowed inside. The service people and entertaining are very nice make you feel like family. The night shows are great and fun I love it in resume I been in Cancún and Playa del Carmen a few times and I can recommended this hotel to every one great job guys . I am definitely coming back see you soon thanks every one in Riu Lupita for a great fun week .

I booked this trip to celebrate my daughter and my birthday (we are both proud mommy/daughter Aries). She turned 9 and I turned 36. Although we were never celebrated despite telling the front desk and the fellow staff, for the price, I really loved our stay and our service. Yes, it was a pain to hop on a shuttle to get to the beach or to the town, but at the end of the day I knew what we were getting into because of the reviews of others. If you are in need of a getaway, book now. I do warn those, however, that the dining options when we were there were limited and the all you care to eat (buffet) was the only dining option for our schedule.

Overall it was a pleasant experience for the price. We were super disappointed we weren’t right on the beach and needed to be shuttled to the Lupita Beach Club. We were under the impression we were able to use other RIU facilities but just not the RIU Palace but then were told that excluded anyone staying at the Lupita, that just applied to RIU Playacar, Tequila and Yucatán like we weren’t good enough. They wouldn’t even allow us to walk through the lobby of the Playacar for beach access. What started off my frustration with RIU too was it being advertised there’s a courtesy shuttle for guests from the hotel to the airport but when I tried to set it up they said it wasn’t available to us because I booked through Expedia despite the fact we were staying 10 days at their resort. Staff was mostly friendly and helpful. Hotel is older and basic amenities but overall we were happy with our stay but will never stay at RIU Lupita again.

The property was a lot smaller than expected and in need of repair. There are very few outlets and no USB ports to charge. The bed was hard and uncomfortable and there were ants everywhere. There were no amenities like lotion, body wash etc and if you needed an iron you had to request it and no ironing board. The walls are very thin we had to listen to a couple argue for hours just cursing and going at it and we couldn’t sleep. On a good note the staff was excellent and Tania who checked us in from the start was phenomenal and always available to help. The food was good but once the buffet closes the options were limited especially for me being vegetarian so we ate outside the resort a lot. Overall our stay was ok.
