What a lovely little gem! We have been to many all inclusive hotels here but this place ticks all boxes! The entertainment was amazing, the vibe was excellent. The food was tasty, not exceptional but really good especially for an all inclusive. The drinks were fantastic, be sure to ask for a Pink Gin and Tonic. The rooms are a bit dated but they are clean and comfortable. They have a little mobile library to check out a book and the choice of pools is a great option. We will most definitely come back again. Lovey vibe, great music, wonderful atmosphere for a bit of everything!

I was very disappointed with not having Secruity on path ways . Every night between 11pm and 4am in morning there was someone intoxicated scream , fighting. I have no problem with individuals having a a good time that was too much. You go on Vacation to relax but it's hard to do when individuals are waking you up. The food was great and staff was wonderful but didn't make up for the persons that were intoxicated between 11pm and 4am

We really enjoyed our visit. The beach is a short walk from the hotel, and there is a beach-side restaurant so you can stay all day. The staff were all very helpful. My family also enjoyed the animals which were wandering around (Coati and Agouti), it was an unexpected bonus for us.

The hotel has a good location and a very pleasant environment. The buffet offers excellent variety and quality, especially for breakfast and lunch. However, I believe the dinner options could be improved, as they were not as impressive.
One downside was that we found some cockroaches in our room, which was disappointing and something the hotel should definitely address.
Overall, it is a good place to stay if you are looking to have fun, enjoy drinks, and meet new people.

Our stay was okay overall we went with around 14 individuals and definitely noticed some inconsistencies and issue throughout. First when we arrived many of the rooms had no issue checking in however mine took over an hour working with someone who was “training” at the front desk to get things figured out. I booked 2 connecting rooms with double beds for 6 people. I was worried about sleeping room and not only emailed RIU for a response and was told we were good to go but also did the pre check in room with all of our information. This worker claimed we only ever paid for one room for 3 people and that the others were not included or paid for. Keep in mind I already pre checked with proof and all of my emails and receipts through Expedia and emails through the hotel. He argued with us for over an hour in the middle of the night about us getting our rooms. Then finally realized we had payed. I was not impressed. Why send out a pre check in if it’s not even utilized???? In addition to this the food did make a lot of us pretty sick. Not super great and we were careful due to hearing that the food and water can make you sick. Now on top of all this one of our groups got transferred to the hotel two down from us because they overbooked rooms. How inconvenient!!!! We were offered no alterations to make up for any of this. Half of our group had wrist bands that then only worked at there hotel and were told they could not eat at our hotel throat keep in mind they originally paid for.

The property overall was very good. The staff was friendly and I liked that you could go to other RIU hotels in the area and eat and drink and it was still all inclusive. The food was pretty good, most restaurants are buffet style. The rooms were a little dated but I liked daily room service. Nice place I would definitely go back again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 week stay. The staff, the pools and the fact we didn't have to make reservations for the specialty restaurants were areas that stood out to us. The room walls were a little thin would be one negative. We didn't participate a lot in the evening entertainment so no comment there. Thanks to Felix at the buffet for making our meals there special, Adolpho for keeping our room nice and clean and to the gal at the omelette station for always starting my day off with a smile.

Formal Complaint & Refund Demand – RIU Tequila

Our three-night stay at RIU Tequila was completely unacceptable and the worst experience we have had in 11 visits to Playacar.

On Day 1, a drunk guest vomited in the main pool. That same night, during a family “Grease” event, a woman stripped down to her thong and danced in front of families while multiple security guards stood by watching and laughing. No action was taken.

On Night 2, after the White Party, guests next to us got into a violent fight and smashed multiple glasses against our door. This created a serious safety concern and we did not feel secure in our room.

These incidents reflect a clear failure in guest supervision, security, and basic safety standards. This stay fell far below what is reasonable to expect from a resort of this brand.

We are formally demanding a full refund for the three-night stay. We expect a prompt response.

I booked a 5 day stay at the RIU Tequila after having spent the 3 weeks previous elsewhere.
We arrived several hours before the stated check in time. We were greeted by very friendly front desk staff. They provided welcome drink during the early check in process. Although our room wasn’t ready(which I fully expected) we were given our bracelets and informed we could use any of the facilities while we waited. We didn’t have to check back, they sent us an email an hour before the posted check in time informing us our room was ready. A porter took our bags to our room.
The room was close to the restaurants and main building which we had requested. It was spacious and clean.
The property does not appear at all run down or outdated. The main dining room and the other specialty restaurants are open and bright. They serve a very good variety of food.
The shuttle to the beach is great.
All of the staff from the dining room to the maid service were consistently friendly and helpful.
This resort provides an overwhelming choice of activities, shows, bars, and dining options.
I would highly recommend this resort and will definitely be returning.

Dirty dishes, cups and glasses in the dining , in stake restaurant- there was someone’s hair in my dish that just was served to me. When we complained to the restaurant manager , he was very aggressive talking to us.
Phone system to the reception does not work properly.. there was a very disturbing situation at night when a drunk person was screaming and banging doors into the rooms … we were calling the receptionist during one and a half hour. However the receptionist never picked up the phone….we will never go there again!

Fridge was never restocked. I had to get it myself every time. Fridge was never cleaned (it was set to the coldest when we looked at it and a soda exploded; it was never cleaned up). Staff left dirty cleaning rags in our room. Walls were dirty. The pool was so dirty I got an infection.

The hotel ambiance was nice, and the front desk welcome was a wonderful first impression. The neon party on Friday night was fun, lively, and a highlight for our group. The music, dancers, and overall energy were spot on, and we truly enjoyed the experience.

That said, a few aspects could be improved. Some staff members in a couple of the restaurants were not as pleasant as expected. When we asked to order a few items to share, we were given a hard time and told that sharing more than one entrée was restricted. This felt uncomfortable, especially considering the all-inclusive nature of the resort. Additionally, the dinner buffet was somewhat disappointing—when we were hoping for tacos, pork was the only meat option available. Offering alternatives such as beef or chicken would be a great improvement. On a positive note, the breakfast selections were excellent across the board.

At checkout, we had paid for a 1:00 PM late checkout due to our 5:00 PM flight. However, the bellman came to collect our luggage before 1:00 PM and made us feel rushed, despite it being only 12:40 PM at the time, he came
across pushy and if he was eager for us to leave our room. We had to ask him to return at the scheduled checkout time, which took away from an otherwise relaxed end to our stay.

Kudos to Housekeeping, they were excellent!

Overall, it was a pleasant experience for a quick trip, and we did enjoy many of the hotel’s offerings. With a few improvements, it could be an even better stay.

Horrible unkept property in a noisy road. Rude front desk Antonio was very unwelcoming and when approached about the lack of maintenance at beach pool area. He said to call Expedia. I told him it was the hotel responsibility to keep cables and holes in deck that can hurt guests and he kept repeating to resolve it with Expedia. We had no electricity in the bathroom area and water was leaking from shower everywhere. Is a very low budget hotel and it shows.

I guess it was ok for 3 days . Rooms were nice but Resort is NOT beach front property. It all depends which building they will make you stay it might take 10-20 min walk to beach . You might take a ride too,however beach is acceptable at another riu hotel and it’s pack with guests from 3 hotels for bech chairs or restaurant. When it comes to food very basic to make you now being hungry . Same food every day from breakfast ,lunch and dinner. Don’t eat oysters they made my husband very sick ! As many times as we have been in Mexico every year our favorite pick was Riu palace at Costa Mujeres and Royalton in Cancun .

1. the water sports always seemed to have a reason they where not available. I tried for 3 days and could not get on. Either they full(but no one was on them as I watched all day).
2. The cigarette butts all over the beach and walk ways wasnt very appealing. One of the dirtiest beaches I have seen in mexico when it comes to cigarette butts.
3. Rest of the stsy was great with kind people and decent food.

We are a family of four with two teenagers. We stayed over Christmas and loved our stay. We travel a lot and this one will be my favorite.
This is a large resort so yes walking is necessary but not horrible if you can get around. We took the ferry to the hotel 45 minutes then a taxi to the hotel.
I give the hotel a 9 in everything. It’s clean, the food is great, the beach is beautiful and clean. Staff goes out of their to help and friendly. Lots of activities or you can chill at the pools and they have four to choose from. I have no complaints and would recommend.

If I had to give one critique it was the entertainment. It was nice but dated. This hotel had a younger audience and the shows were more for a much older audience. The show was great if you were 60 plus. Again not a deal breaker but it lost a lot of people.

The sports bar is fun, pool tables, snacks, and tvs for sports.
You won’t be disappointed here!
Just remember you need to walk here. Wheelchairs and family members who may have troubles walking would struggle.

The bathroom and shower area air vacumm is not working properly. Sometimes is working well, sometimes not even staff came to fix it. Besides that, there is no staff oversee the line for the car going to the beach, we have been waiting for half hour, and every time when the car came, the people just hop on the car without waiting on line. That's very frustruated. I was there for vocation and not there to fight for a seat to go to beach.

The food needs improvement. Breakfast is basically egg and bread for me at the buffet, not much choice for meat. Although i like their juices, you can tell it is real fruit and not from a box. Lunch and supper are not good either for both buffets and restaurants, but buffets are worst. The pastas and rice dishes are either under cooked or over done. Meat are over cooked. Waiters at the buffets are in charge of too many tables, you do not see them as much compare to the other resorts/hotels i had been, but they will help you and accommodate your needs of you see them. I feel like the waiters and cooks are over worked compare to other hotels/ resorts i had been.
Also, if you booked a hotel at Tequila, asking for e new towels in exhange of your wet once at Yucatan and Playacar, well good luck, some staff does not allow that ( but some do), you have to use a wet towel over and over or just go back to Tequila which is not beach front.
Lastly, from Tequila to Yucatan hotel you can walk since Tequila is not beach front. Riu does offer a golf cart that will bring you from Tequila to Tucatan if you feel tired, specially when you have small kids. The problem is they only provide one golf cart. With that much guests 1 golf cart is not enough. It is either you walk back or you wait for a long time. Walking is okey for adults but when you have kids that are way too tired from swimming, or older people that has knee issues riding the golf cart is always a better option.

I did not realize when I booked the hotel that it was not beachfront. Though it is just located behind Riu Yucatan, the photos online are most of the Yucatan not the Tequila. Your stay at the Tequila does include the Yucatan beach and pool access s well as lunchtime buffet and all the poolside bars. Having said that, there is a golf cart shuttle that runs throughout the day where you can be at the beach in about one minute. Or you can take a 5 to 10 minute walk from the lobby and be over at the Yucatán where you have access to everything except the restaurants. I have to say the staff was very efficient, friendly, and always available at all the restaurants, poolside and bar keeping everything clean with friendly prompt service. Pool temp was great. Food was above average. If you stay all day at the Tequila everything is a 3-5 minute walk away no matter where you are. The only reason this won’t be our go to resort is the amount of kids. It’s a wonderful resort but for our preference there were far too many kids. We did love our stay tho!
