Staff helpful, enjoyed the restaurants. Mexican one especially. They definately make sure your wine glass does not get empty.
I believe the resort was fully booked but did not have problems with getting beach chairs or chairs by the pool. Yes some people put towels to save spots but was still able to get a spot. Resort is not a mega resort so was very nice as it was not crazy busy. Great resort to go to to just enjoy you vacation. Seaweed season was starting early, but really nothing as they cleaned beach every morning. Overall a great place and would definately book again

This resort is excellent for families yet it is quiet and relaxing if that is what you want. The only complaint/suggestion I have is to have more garbage cans placed throughout the resort and possibly institute a recycling program. When booking with Expedia, you are considered a VIP and receive a spa voucher. Candy at the spa provided a deep tissue massage as good or better than what I receive at home! The à la carte restaurants do not require a reservation and we were able to walk in each time we went. I will definitely be back!

Although our stay was only for a few days, the staff at the entire resort was very helpful and friendly! From the front desk, to the bellhops, housekeeping and the restaurant servers. The room was comfortable and clean. The food at the a la carte restaurants were very good and the buffet had lots of variety. The best part was the stunning beach! Lots of chairs even when we didn’t start our beach day until noon! While there was no beach service for drinks, it wasn’t a big deal. We brought a large insulated cup and filled up at the bar. All in all we really enjoyed Viva Azteca would absolutely at this resort again for longer!!

Check-in was very slow and long lines. Some people received beverages in line but not us. We asked about free upgrade for VIP Expedia status and they lied and switched us from garden view to pool view without mentioning the change of location. We had to go back to the front desk with our bags to ask for our garden view. They put us in a terrace room even closer to the pool. There was no language barrier. Finally on the third attempt we got an experienced staff member who seemed to understand we wanted a quiet garden room. Next time we will make sure the “free upgrade” isn’t a downgrade to noisy poolside before leaving the front desk.

This resort was a major disappointment. Unless you’re a Black Band VIP, expect second-class treatment from the start. I booked an ocean-view king room through Expedia and was given two queen beds facing nothing but palm trees. The front desk refused to honor my reservation.

There are no elevators, the pool closes at 8pm, and the shower drained terribly. The food was mediocre, and only two staff members showed any friendliness; the rest seemed irritated. You’re also not allowed to take buffet food to your room, which is ridiculous.

The drinks were some of the worst I’ve had—no premium liquor, watered-down cocktails, and even the non-alcoholic drinks tasted bad. Entertainment was cheesy, and although the bar stays open until 2am, you’re expected to stay quiet or get told off.

Most guests were seniors, making the atmosphere dull. You only get one pool towel per day, and the resort feels outdated. Workers were scrubbing tiles in the pool and jacuzzi while people were still in the water. There are no bottled waters, only dispensers, and no ice machines—you have to go to the bar for everything. And unless you’re VIP, forget about poolside drink service.

My group will never return, and I wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its guests.

The staff is very attentive and friendly. The resort is spotless. Beach sitting area is spacious with a ton of beach chairs. Food is ok, but par for the area resorts. Like the fact that reservations are not needed for the specialty restaurants. Will be returning again. Shout out to the entertainment staff and Louis the pool bartender.

This resort is absolutely wonderful. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Everything is very clean. The A/C works great and the beds are very comfortable! Bring a water jug because they don’t use water bottles. They have filtered water dispensers all over. We had no issues with the water. Everything is quick and easy to get to, from the front desk to the beach, it’s a short walk. The pool bar is open 24 hours a day which was nice!! The food was excellent! The breakfast buffet left a little to be desired but the lunch buffet and pool snack bar made up for it. The ocean was incredibly beautiful with lots of activities. The nightly shows were great. The only “downfall” is no drinking in the pool. Their sister resort Viva Maya is a short walk down the road or beach and they have a swim up bar.
I highly recommend this resort and look forward to going back next year!! (This is the first time I have ever said that about a resort in my 20 years of traveling to Playa del Carmen!!)

I stayed at Viva Azteca by Wyndham and really enjoyed it. It’s a smaller, quieter resort with fewer kids and less partying, which made it perfect for a relaxed, chill atmosphere. The food was delicious, and the staff were very welcoming. If you’re looking for something bigger with more activities and entertainment, I’d recommend checking out Viva Maya, but if you prefer a laid-back vibe, Azteca is a great choice.

Beautiful resort. Well laid out & very clean. Friendly & helpful staff. Amazing beach. Great food & its excellent that you can also take advantage of their sister resort, Maya, for extra dining options as well.

The rooms & belconies need more hooks to hang towels & things on. Would be nice to have beer added to the fridge daily when the room is cleaned. The cafe should open before 9am. The beach toys office (kayaks, etc.) should open earlier as well.

The amenities and shows were spectacular, great location close to everything. Location was fantastic Playacar is in the middle of Cancun and Tulum. Walking & shopping very close and safe, great food amazing staff very friendly and always with a smile ready to help and answer all your questions. Clean rooms and spacious every day housekeeping. Hotel looks old, old paint on the walls, some dirty.
We had a really bad smell of sea weed coming from the air conditioning, issue was reported and we were never notified of any updated, smell went away until water started coming from the ceiling near the ac unit, again the issue was reported and again we were never notified about any repairs done, after that the ac was coming out with a disinfecting like smell, out of the 3 trips to the same area this is the one with the lowest quality, food was great!

We did day trips to Cenote but also enjoyed riding bikes around Playacar and spending time on the beach under the palm trees. The staff at the resort were all amazing. They all were super friendly and helpful with everything we needed. The staff would treat us like family and did everything in their power to make sure we enjoyed our time. Not once did we feel unsafe or that any of our property would be stolen. The rooms were incredibly comfortable. The cleaners would come everyday to make our beds and clean up.

The food was amazing with something new everyday and having multiple restaurant options. My fiance is celiac which usually makes it hard to find food options but the resort made sure they always had options for her aswell as making sure it tasted good.

The perfomers were all great. They had a new show everynight from a world tour to a lion king night. We saw them in the morning making sure people were having a good time teaching dances at the pool to having games and fun contest that were available for all ages.

There were always staff available to help us out with whatever we needed. They made sure we would have a ride when we needed it and aswell as giving us suggestions on what fun activities to do. I have nothing bad to say about the resort. Absolutely everything was amazing. The staff, the food, the comfortability, and the overall enjoyment were amazing. I highly recommend coming here if you are thinking about it. Even when i saw other tourist treat the workers like slaves/garbage, the staff would still do their best aswell as having a smile on their face.

Overall, our stay at Viva Azteca was enjoyable in many ways. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff did a commendable job keeping the beach area as clear as possible during a difficult seaweed season. The pool was also very nice and well-maintained.

However, several areas fell short of expectations. The amenities advertised were underwhelming. The “game room,” for instance, was disappointing. It featured only one old, broken pool table with damaged cues and missing pocket nets, making it nearly unusable.

The dinner experience, in terms of service and ambiance, was pleasant. However, the biggest issue during our stay was with the food itself—specifically, how food allergies were handled. My family has peanut allergies, and I had called the hotel ahead of time to confirm that they could accommodate this. I was assured that they could.

Unfortunately, that was not our experience upon arrival. At the Mayan Cuisine restaurant, we informed our server of our allergies, and he seemed unconcerned. He told us he couldn’t guarantee the dishes were nut-free, which contradicted what we had been told before our trip. Still, we ordered dishes he claimed were safe. Within 30 minutes, my son broke out in hives, and I experienced the beginning of an allergic reaction myself. Thankfully, we had emergency medication on hand.

My brothers room had a leaking roof. My sisters room her main door wouldn’t lock properly. No elevators. Small dirty pool. Building is old. Food is gross. The power went out in the middle of the night. Left us without an AC inside the room for hours in the middle of the night. I plugged my blow dryer into the plug and the breakers in the room had to be reset because the power went out.

This resort is very well kept. It was clean, though the rooms could use a renovation. The showers were outdated.

The resort is eco-friendly, so they don't use water bottles. They have filtered bottle filling stations around the resort. They also offer cool water from dispensers around the property.

The resort is very close to Playa Del Carmen, for any shopping you want to do. There's also a very decently sized market just down the road from the resort. It's a gated community, so it's very safe.

I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone wanting to stay at a nice, quiet and affordable resort near playa del carmen.

Hotel is kind of outdated but we were there for the Ocean not a room. Did not have any people who want you to buy the Timeshare , that's was a surprise.

Travelled here with my partner, it was a very chill resort with lots of families. Definitely not a big party spot, but that was good for us. Everything was nice and clean, our power went out one day and they fixed it quickly. Our only issue was the food, we didn’t have high expectations going in as all inclusive food is hit or miss but we were still disappointed.

Wow, everything at this hotel was great, especially the staff and service, restaurant food and service was excellent, property was clean and spotless. I would recommend to anyone to stay here at this all-inclusive hotel, it's less than 1 hr. from Cancun Airport, lots of activities. This was by far our worst experience in Playa, and we have been going there. It would be way too much to detail, but the staff was fairly rude and the quality of everything is just not good. Way too expensive for what you get, and to make matters worse, now they get sargasso all year round and their beach is gone, they have almost no sand.

Beautiful property, gorgeous beach good food. But the staff makes it really hard to enjoy your stay. They’re fixated on enforcing the rules and they’re very black-and-white and they’re thinking. For instance, they don’t give you more than one beach towel per day. Even if it’s pouring rain, how our guests supposed to dry and swim, if the towels are soaked from the rain. They have so many rules and are very stubborn about it. The resort is not focussed on making it a pleasant experience.

For instance: they would only give you one swim towel per day, they wouldn’t want to change the towel for us it even if it rained allllll day! We are there to swim!!! One towel is not enough! without sun! staff is stubborn and would not allow reasoning! So we had to air dry as there is not way for guests to dry towels!
Another thing, a cousin came over to say hello, and they wouldnt let us have a visit in the lobby, because the rule is only guest can set foot in the property! Even the lobby. They were on our backs to get off the lobby and have the visit on the side of road! Again! This resort is not focused on how to make the stay for guests enjoyable. They are fixated on the rules!
Wouldn’t recommend this place, even though it was a beautiful resort. :(

Wonderful hotel for a quiet vacation with the family. Pool was nice and beach beautiful, even though it was damaged by a recent storm. Entertainment was alright but not a huge choice or variety of shows. It is geared more towards the quiet crowd rather than the party crowd.The buffet was delicious and always had a wide variety of dishes available. Restaurants were good but nothing out of this world. Staff was friendly and accommodating, but we disliked the timeshare/VIP pushiness and that areas were designated for those people only. Feels divisive in my opinion. If we are dropping that much money on a vacation as it is, guests should all be treated well and not like some are better than others. If you were not willing to pay a lot of money into a time share and are not one of the VIP folks that had a show in their lounge nightly, there wasn’t much to do but if you like a quiet, relaxing vacation and early bed time you’ll like this resort.

The property was exactly what we thought it would be as far as looks! The beach and pool were the best parts of the resort. Unfortunately we had terrible customer service from the time we arrived to the time we departed. There was transportation from airport to resort advertised on the booking. When I called to schedule I was told three different things by three different people. Upon arrival to Mexico, we had to find our own transportation to the resort. When attempting to book it for departure back to the airport we were told they didn’t even have a shuttle. Strange thing was, as we were in our own transportation back to the airport we saw a large shuttle in front of us with big words VIVA AZTECA. So that was clearly a lie. Staff was rude and not accommodating. The restaurants were less than great. We were expecting much better cuisine quality. Overall I would not recommend this specific resort to anyone I know!

This was our second time and glad we returned. We enjoy the buffet, particularly their fresh fruit, home made bread, seafood options particularly tuna steaks on BBQ night, and little desserts and ice cream. It is nice there are no resevations required now for the restaurants. Snack bar and drinks by the pool is great. I wish they had chips more than one time to go with the guacamole.
Room had comfy beds, good hot water and nice garden view. WiFi was not strong enough at night to watch a movie but good for emails etc. Some noise from room above when they moved furniture.
I have to say the leaf blower starting at 7am has got to go. Terrible sound when you are trying to enjoy the morning peace. I mentioned it to the front desk.

Love the chaise loungers facing the ocean. The whole beach that was a volleyball court has washed away. You can still walk up and down the beach easily, and see great sunrises. I would go back again!

Elisa Bini in guest services made our visit very special again this year. We will be back. The Bamboo restaurant was our favorite and Manuel was our waiter for a number of nights. He did a great job and was very friendly! Well done.

Nice property with beautiful scenery. Wide palm lined beach area - however, erosion near water. We enjoyed 5 nights at this resort. We went to the Maya as well. We liked things at both resorts. The restaurants had decent food but the buffet and pool buffet food was not good. The only time it was decent is when they had the grills set up and were grilling chicken . Overall it was a nice place but food could be better.

It was my girlfriend and I first time in Mexico and we decided to stay at viva Azteca. Needless to say we throughly enjoyed our entire stay and didn’t have any complaints. Will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend the resort to others. Viva Mexico!

The employees are very kind, helpful and always smiling. The food is ok; perhaps a little revamp is needed. The entire resort is so clean. The beach is amazing in January. The weather is perfect. I will definitely come again in January only. I really enjoyed my stay.

Smaller resort than what we're used but we liked it very much. It is located in a closed off area of Playa del Carmen making it less accessible and safer. They offered an all day long Kids Club which was a big plus for both parents and kids who had various fun and entertaining activities. Recommended.

Small resort. Easy walk from rooms to pool and beach.great for families with young kids.

Staff do a good job of cleaning rooms etc.

Good specialty restaurant xulha and the italian one. No reservations required for these.
Quieter than other resorts by the pool

Cons:
Dated rooms and facility.
Sucks for vegetarians. Unclear signage and cross contamination with things placed right next to each other.
No beach bar or service
No.pool side service.
Entertainment staff lack enthusiasm to.involve people in activities.

Resort is in playacar hotel zone. Quick taxi ride to downtown which has a great walkable street with tons of vibrant restaurants, bars, clubs.

Viva Azteca is a very quiet property, which could be good. We had a pool and bar view room, and it was still very quiet. The food at the buffet is horrible, minus the omelets. The restaurants were all blah at best. We had 4 people and tried something different each and only found 1 option that we thought was ok. We tried all 3 restaurants on site. We tried to go to Viva Maya 3 hotels down to try a restaurant, but reservations were required and they were not able to make us reservations for the duration of our stay. We did eat at their buffet instead, which did have better food than Viva Azteca. If food doesn't matter to you at your \"all inclusive\" then Viva Azteca could be a good option.

The only thing I didn't like was the food. I don't want to be disrespectful but the food was very bad . I Was there 4 nights and didn't enjoy the food at all. The property is nice and very close to shops. Unfortunate the food killed the stay.

The property was fine. Staff was very nice. The surrounding area was safe. The beach was pretty. The food was below average. Every meal we had at the buffet was luke warm at best. The actual restaurants on property were slightly better, but not by much. Apparently the other Viva property has more options but you have to make reservations for those and we could never get in (even when trying to book days in advance). If you are looking for a “lively” time - this resort is not for you. I was very surprised to see limited people down at the bar in the evenings. It was very quiet. My goal for the trip, was to get away from the cold and relax, so it did the trick. But it’s likely that first vacation that I lost weight instead of gained!
