This was my first time staying at the Iberostar Waves Tucan. The property grounds were very well kept, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was fantastic! I really enjoyed the entertainment each evening, and the entertainers and staff were very friendly and present throughout the day. Lots of activities to choose from every day, or you can just relax by the pool or ocean.

Property was acceptable, staff average my room was new redecorated and was cute. Unfortunately after my attempts to reach out to the hotel with no response , I requested a room on the main floor due to a disability I finally contacted Expedia customer service who were wonderful and I got my 1st floor room. I must say the concierge service at the hotel were good. I stayed at this property 2 years ago (because my sister-in who s in Candda has a friend who is some kind of travel agent and gets a “discount “ or cheaper prices?? I would not have stayed there but wanted to connect with my other brother-in law and sister in law who go with the group. I stated last time I would not go back, but my bad, wanted to vacation with them again, so I went thru Expedia’s- prices were excellent, a package with flight-transportation and accommodations-perfect / I am a single traveler and usually pay twice as much as couples. Anyway back to hotel, overall OK, but the food was 3rd rate, only 2 of the specialty restaurants were good - the Italian and the Japanese had great food. All the buffets’s were subpar, bars lacking premium alcohol and service was slow.
This review is not relevant since they are closing for renovations in May. I hope they up their game. I have used RIU properties in Mexico and they are leaps and bounds above Iberostar. Which is now selling memberships in their next vacation endeavor. But if you want an overpriced poor vacation book Iberostar Tuscan. Only my opinion

resort was beautiful, room was kept clean, staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was great, Beach and pools were beautiful. Beaches had lots of cigaret buts in the sand and found other debris (broken glass/plastic) which was a big concern since we had little children. Other than that it was wonderful.

This stay was disappointing mainly due to food poisoning experienced by 2 members of our party. Hotel claimed no one else had it and unless a Dr said it was food poisoning they would take no responsibility but we spoke to many other guests that also had someone in their party also fall ill. Animals at hotel are the best part and the hotel is very clean.

Why people rank it 5 stars? The rooms are very outdated! You have only 1 outlet in the room and even that is by the TV. You unplug the Lamp and you use the charger. Absolutely no charges by the bed. The room is pretty small and the bathroom is super small. We traveled with 2 small children and it was very difficult to take a shower and use the bathroom or sink all the same time. If someone is at the sink - don’t open the door you’ll hit the person. If someone is using the toilet don’t open the door you’ll literally slam the door in their face. The shower is super small and claustrophobic, the lights are very small, yellow and just not enough. There is no shelf or space to place any of your shampoos or anything. The toilet clogged twice.
There is no service by the pool or the beach area. No one will bring you any drinks, you have to go wait in line and get your drink. The entertainment could be better. All the entertainment ends at 10.30. For Xmas Eve entertainment the organizers were selling bottles of alcohol which would allow you to sit at the table. The bottle prices started at $120 US dollars and if you didn’t buy one you were meant to sit on the sides of the theater area. Once the show started more than 30 tables were empty but the organizers still didn’t allow anyone to sit and if someone attempted to do so they would be asked to move out of the area to the side.

Had to get the AC adjusted after the first night. Worked fine after that. Did not spend time at the pools - Just used the beach. Swimming in the ocean was great. Meals at buffet were good. Great afternoon snorkeling tour with the on-site company. Some good bird watching down by lovers beach and along the street outside the resort. Best birding if you can arrange it is at the golf course. Hotel staff were helpful and pleasant throughout the stay. We really enjoyed the evening violinist. Beds were comfortable and room was kept clean.

Great food and many restaurant options on site. Beach is beautiful. Rooms need a facelift but supposedly the hotel is closing Spring 2026 - Fall 2026 to upgrade the rooms. Drink varieties are a bit limited...but we didn't leave thirsty. I would stay there again.

Beautiful grounds and super clean resort. The staff were all amazing. The room needs to be updated . The bathroom door opens up inside the bathroom and in the way of the sink. If you want to keep it open to just curl your hair or to let steam out when showering you can’t get bye it easily. The giant ceiling fan has only one setting. On or off. AC was locked down and set at 19 degrees Celsius but wouldn’t circulate through the room unless the fan was on high speed. No other setting. It was hard to sleep because the fan blows so hard. Need a medium and low setting or better cool air conditioning. Drinks were good and we had a good quality of liquor to choose from. Great entertainment during the day and evening in the theater. Good food and plenty of options. Did not do specialty restraints as we forgot to attend as we were having so much fun.

Beautiful property grounds. Main pool does not have a swim up bar and no service, had to get out to go get drinks. The resort credit is not a real credit should be advertised as coupons for the resort. You can only use a little bit of the credit at certain places. The property raises prices if you use the credit. We were offered a massage from one of the employees for $128 and when we mentioned what the cost would be with the credit was told she would have to raise the price to $150 and we could get $25 off.

The amount of noise that came in every morning at 6:00 am was ridiculous . Construction trucks, bags of dirt, ply wood and drilling felt more like a construction site then a resort. We also got food poising and lost a day due to being sick . We informed staff and both our concern just to be told they are sorry and just smiled at us. Not a good experience.

Had a wonderful time at the Iberostar Tucan! I traveled with a vegetarian who had plenty to eat, as well as a 12 year old picky eater, who was happy with the choices at the buffet at all meals. I was a bit disappointed by the Italian restaurant sit down option, honestly much rather preferred the variety in the buffet. Everything was always clean which can be hard to do at a large property, but all restrooms were in tip-top shape always. The beach access was amazing, and the water was a beautiful turquoise blue. You do have to get there early to save seats unfortunately, but an added perk is being able to see the sunrise while you do it, which is stunning. Overall would definitely go back to this property.

This is our third time in Iberostar Tucan, this time we spent 6 wonderful days at the resort.

The food is clean and delicious. The staff is kind, knowledgeable and always helpful; they always wear their uniform but we were wondering whether they could use short sleeves as the weather is really really hot. Paco and their team at Star camp were all friendly and took good care of the kids. My daughter (11) quickly made friends there.

The travel agency W2M was perfect for our vacation tour to ruins/turtles/cenote.

**The only warning is that people should be careful with heat lamps at the buffet; wife had a small accident and burned hand with one of those lamps. However, the whole experience was wonderful and we can't wait to come back again.

At first, we didn't get the room we wanted and when I tried to call and ask nicely if we could get a different room, a staff member Daniel was so rude and ruined my whole night. I would expect more out of the rooms since it's supposed to be a fancy hotel. The food was not great at all, lack of flavor and variety, definitely catered to people who aren't Mexican.
And our experience at the Italian restaurant, was awful. The service was horrible. I will say most bartenders were super nice and there was a handful of staff members who were friendly and made our days.

Rooms are a bit dated. Food was quite good, especially the fish tacos in the Mexican restaurant and the beef brisket at the smokehouse.
Beach is outstanding. Drinks varied in quality, some bartenders didn’t know how to make certain drinks.
I was at this resort 15 years ago, main difference is no room service and no waitress at the beach.
Good value and no real issues. Would recommend.

What a beautiful resort! Very clean, nice staff, nice beach area, the walk through forest was amazing and peaceful. I wanted to walk through it over and over. The waterfalls were amazing! The flamingos were beautiful and a great addition. There was a monkey that came and visited in the lobby with her baby that was the icing on the cake. Everything was amazing.

Clean rooms, but rooms are small and dated. Good quality food, but very limited reservation availability for the nice restaurants. Pool was well kept and very large size. Great drinks at the bar, very healthy pours :) Kid friendly. Very safe community, guarded gate entry. Walking distance from 5th ave or $10 taxi drive. Great staff service all around at restaurants/bar/cleaning/maintenance. Though, the biggest disappointment for us was on we booked a king bed premium near pool room for my husband and I since this was a trip for our 10th year anniversary, but we got stuck with two double beds, no remediation/refund/add on services was offered, so not a great customer service coverage on that part. Also management posted fliers/signs/advertisements for a big Friday night show but whenever we showed up there was a $60/person entry fee, this fee was not posted on any advertisement around the property. Overall the stay was okay, the place was well kept and food/drinks were good. Not rushing to return to resort.

We really liked this resort! The staff is friendly and helpful, the whole place is beautiful, the food is good, and the beach and pool are great. Housekeeping does a great job keeping the room clean from day to day. We had our 9 month old with us and he loved all the fun animals around the property— flamingos, parrots, monkeys, tortoises, peacocks… basically a whole zoo! It’s very cool! A monkey even came within a couple feet of us which he found very exciting. The water was calm enough to take him into the ocean most days. The beach was beautiful without much seaweed. The food was pretty good as well. I found the buffet above average in my experience of resort buffets, and we enjoyed the Japanese hibachi restaurant as well as the smokehouse. I really can’t come up with any complaints about this place!

The property was really nice and clean. The pool was huge, it was beautiful but, its really deep... theres only 2 shallow areas with no shade and with young kids that cant swim it was always panic mode if we saw them walking towards the deep end.

Other than the breakfast buffet, the buffets at this resort weren't the best. The only place we found where the food was ok was the Smoke house, the Italian restaurant and the kids would enjoy the burgers and fries by the beach.

Definitely not a five star for food or hotel rooms. The rooms are really outdated.

Being from Canada, alot of other South American guests would stare at us when we would talk to each other in english. They were not friendly at all.

Also, beware that when you check in they are so friendly because they want you to join the Iberostar premium club. They waste 2 hours of your time the following day with presentations and then when you say no your not interested in joining
.... there not the friendliest after that. We were dealing with Luis... and the next evening when I saw him in the lobby he turned his face and ignored me.

I truly, enjoyed staying at the Iberostar Tucán.
I have stayed at multiple all inclusive hotels throughout the years.
But this hotel has to be one of the Best,
The buffet is so fresh and so much to choose from. The daily live entertainment is as good as Vegas. There is grilled food prepared daily on the beach, the Eco hotel is beautiful, with variety of animals, monkeys, peacocks, etc.
I will definitely return.

First of all, visit the place and form your own opinion. Quite a few reviews were not favorable. But I decided to give this place a try, and boy, am I glad I did. The place was immaculate , and considering how enormous this resort is, that is no mean feat. From the moment we entered the lobby( there are 2 by the way), I fell in love with the place. Staff were so polite and friendly. Dining options were plenty. Some reviews said the rooms were dated, but the rooms we were put up in were pretty good. And clean. The beach was clean. A few weeds here and there which were not much of a problem. A shout out to Aarti who went above and beyond and welcomed us. The only con would be the limited parking spots. We had to drive around a few times before we found 2 spots. Other than that, no complaints whatsoever. Would definitely return as well as recommend to friends and family.

Beautiful property with kind, attentive staff. Our rooms were spotless each day and the grounds are gorgeous. We enjoyed every meal and had top notch service at each restaurant. Beach had some sargassum but the resort seemed to be constantly working to remove it. Only suggestion- our rooms were far from breakfast locations and it would’ve been nice to at least have coffee available closer to beach area.

Food was amazing, the choice of restaurants is fantastic, such variety. Resort with the jungle in the middle was great, we had peacocks walking around us on the beach and at the pool! It’s a beautiful place. Rooms are nice, balconies shaded but slightly dated.
Staff are cleaning, painting and gardening all the time keeping the resort at its best.

Only let downs were the sun beds are all reserved very early and the staff accept money to reserve them for you. The people next to us one day paid $100 to reserve for 2 weeks. It’s poor. Also, the resort ‘credit’ you receive is actually 25% discount when you spend $100!
No kids entertainment in the nights and some things are payable.
We would recommend but wouldn’t return due to the sun beds.

We had a room that was with an ac not working properly. It was reported multiple times, with us actually walking into the room with maintenance checking it and told us it was working fine. To our surprise it was actually hotter that night. The day before we left the manager came to our room and it was indeed not working. Out of our entire stay we had one night of ac. When checking out we were then greeted with a manager and promised we would receive an email with upgrades and ways to try and rectify our stay. Here we are almost a week later with no email. Even after me emailing them as a follow up. This was our 3rd time to stay at an Iberostar property. Unfortunately, possibly our last. Outside of this we had another issue - a worker found my son’s yeti cup and was using it. Sons fault for loosing it but that shows your staff do not turn things into lost and found.
We made the most of our stay and enjoyed the people we came with as well as the beach, pool, food and drinks. We had 5 rooms at the resort. 1 other had ac problems as well. They were disappointed as well.

The rooms are quite outdated — some of the light fixtures didn’t work, and there were very few power outlets, which was a bit inconvenient. Other than that, everything was great: the territory is well-maintained, and the overall experience was positive.

This is a beautiful resort. Absolutely gorgeous. And the food is great! However, the service factor that is usually included in all inclusive resorts does not exist at this resort. There are zero pool and beach waiters. You have to flag the staff down at restaurants for service. We were also stood up by the bellboy that we made an appointment with on our departure day. There are no elevators so it was a little annoying. Not the most relaxing experience. The pool is warm.. uncomfortably so by lunch. The swim up bar is great, but adult only. The housekeeping crew was great and quick. All in all, we are glad to have visited this resort, but probably won’t revisit.

The vegetation and the scenery is beautiful. When it rains it looks like paradise. The rooms are always clean and over all the staff is nice. What I appreciated the most was Star Camp for the kids. The ladies (ALL of them) and Paco are hands down THE BEST. Be sure your little ones will be in good hands, having fun, and exploring.

The only reason why I didn't give a 5 star is because I do feel that at the buffets, servers can be more attentive with refills, removing plates, and just making sure the guest is good. I was there for over a week and the first 5 days my very small party and I were almost ignored as it seemed larger parties were favored or paid much more attention to. However, the 2 servers that seemed to be ontop of it all, giving 100% service, were Isauro and Roberto at the Cozumel Buffet. Every time we were helped ans served by either gentleman we had an amazing meal with replaced silverware, wine, tea, napkins, converasations, and always made us feel welcomed. They were super sweet to my little guy also.

The other reason is because upon checking in I was expected to pay an additonal $400 because aparently on their side it said i had bookes my reservation for aduls and an infant. My itinerary said child not infant. Checking in took almost 2 hrs till the problem was solved. The resort is also quit pricy should you need anything. You are looking at $20 for bug spray. Other than that everything else is great.

The animals on property were a big hit for our adult children and ourselves! The dining options were awesome (esp Japonese!) We loved every staff and wish we could have stayed! We were there during a time of high sargassum and this was not even an issue as we had so much to do on property. The beach/sand was still beautiful, the pool was awesome and so many activities. I highly recommend!

The location of resort and beach is perfect but sadly the rooms, restaurants need an upgrade - very old and dirty looking.
We were extremely disappointed with dining options. Not enough, many closed so limited options unless you do buffet which in all honesty is one of the worst we have been too. We have been to many resorts over 15yrs in playa and this resort was dissapointing.

The beach is great. They keep the beach clean if there’s sargazo. The food is very good. The facilities and rooms are clean. The entertainment is fun. The wild life around the green areas of the hotel is magical. We enjoyed our family vacation in this place. It has something to offer for people of all ages.

This property is beautiful. There are plenty a of wildlife roaming around the jungle of the property. Pools and beach are nice and clean. Unfortunately they do not offer poolside waiters and the buffet is hit and miss. It was difficult to make reservations at the dine in restaurants, we were only able to successfully book one dine in experience.

We spent 6 days and 5 nights at the Iberostar Tucan and it was great. Food and drinks were fantastic. The atmosphere of the beach and the employees were great and always energetic. We visited different restaurant every day for lunch and dinner. The Mediterranean had a very long line for food so we went to one of the dinner buffets.

The happiness start when we upgrade our room to oceanfront, wonderful view in the morning with amazing sunrise. Friendly front desk . You can feel short staff everywhere in restaurant, bars, walking areas . Deficient of variety food, Restaurants starts at 8 AM. Jungle garden with animals wonderful for kids. This was an absolutely amazing resort. We visited during spring break. It was well balanced with nature with a portion in a jungle setting, a beautiful large beach, and a huge pool. Beach chairs all had umbrellas unlike some resorts. The Wild Beach was a moderate walk down the shore. Great buffets as well as several specialty restaurants. We were happy with every one. Many different bar areas, a pool bar, and bars at the beach. A lot of different activities happening each day. Our son was able to have interaction with the wild monkeys that live here which was his favorite memory. You will not be disappointed booking your vacation here. Perfect for a family trip. It will please everyone.

I was at the Tucan, room 1727: this room faces a nearby property, their air condition unit or pool filter engine is directly across, behind the property wall, so there is a constant loud noise coming from there. As a consequence, it was unpleasant being on the balcony or even keeping the sliding door open for fresh air. I did point out this issue to the concierge, but the answer was a cold and careless :it does not depend on us\".

Gorgeous property lots to see. Beautiful pathways, pool is deep and clean, lots to see lots to do. Food was better than other hotel chains. No one out of four of us got sick. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Only downside was getting woken up daily around 8:00am/9:00am by house keeping. We didn’t have a do not disturb tag for our door. We asked for one from house keeping and front desk but one never arrived in our room.

Everything was great. When we first arrived it was still early before check in, but we were able eat at the buffet and then continue check in afterwards. This was definitely helpful after a long trip. The whole staff was friendly. It is a smaller hotel which I loved because I could easily get from one place to another without a huge walk. Be ready to encounter many animals and hear them at night.

The food was extraordinary. The staff very helpful. At a lunch buffet a chef walked by and I asked if they had their ceviche that day, he said no but asked where I was seated and said he would see what he could do. 10 minutes later he brought me a plate of ceviche well presented ringed with fresh lime and cucumber and tortilla chips!
