This is my third time in this hotel, nice resort, Wonderful staff, good food and drinks, beautiful beach, the entertainment team needs to improve and vary activities. The only thing I don’t like about this hotel is the way the bathroom and shower were designed they lack privacy. I would definitely come back again.

The property is very nice and well kept. The restaurant signs need to be updated to show the actual times they are open. The buffet was really pretty good. Wasn't impressed by the specialty restaurants food selection. The beach was nice except for the seagrass and the water was a little murky. The pool area was very nice and they had activities to make it more fun. Pool water was a little warmer than I prefer. We had a great vacation all in all.

There are better Riu's, this one needs updated towels and the smell of them were musty. The place is beautiful from the outside.

Also the Taxi service they keep on the grounds are expensive and if you use other service like IDrive app which is so much cheaper, you have to wait for a QR code the IDriver cancels.

I recently returned from a 10‑night stay at the Riu Yucatán, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and the entire property was beautifully maintained/managed throughout our stay.

The food exceeded expectations every single day — fresh, flavorful, and with so much variety. A special mention goes to the RiuLand team, especially Meryal, whose warmth and kindness made our children feel so comfortable and excited to participate.

One thing that really stood out was the management presence. The manager was visible daily, actively overseeing the restaurants and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their leadership and attention to detail were noticeable and appreciated.

Overall, we left extremely happy and satisfied. We will definitely be returning to the Riu Yucatán.

We stay very frequently in Playa Car , and have stayed at almost every resort there. This, by far, has been the best experience, even out of other RIU hotels. Staff was great, very friendly. Food was great, PLENTY to choose from. Great pools. Comfortable rooms . Will definitely be staying here again

The staff was amazing very nice and accommodating. Housekeeping made sure our room was clean and restocked with linen, and kept refrigerator stocked. They called the room to make sure everything was going well. Food was good and the cooks were happy to make food to your liking. The resort itself was BEAUTIFUL. The beach and pool area was very clean and had different activities that was fun. My stay was overall amazing and we will be back to stay 🌴 ☀️ ⛱️ 🌊

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Everything was clean and well-maintained, which made us feel comfortable right away. The staff did a great job keeping the spaces tidy and welcoming.
One of the highlights was the bar—it offered a great variety of drinks, so there was something for everyone to enjoy. The restaurants were also impressive, with plenty of options and a good selection of food. It made dining convenient and enjoyable without needing to leave the property.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and we would definitely consider staying here again.

The employees were so pleasant, and helpful. It looked like the property just had a fresh coat of paint, inside and out. Property, and grounds vert well kept. Beach was very nice. The beach was shallow and only went to about 6ft at the deepest part. Nice sandy beach. I thought the Buffet was really good large selection. The Mexican restaurant was very good. The steak house, Asian restaurant. Could use improvement as well as the Italian. It said in their brochure that there were venders/shops that set up every other night. There were non and no one knew it was on their brochure. That was a disappointment for me, i enjoy buying gifts for friends and family. I travel alone, so i don't leave the resorts. They had a tiny gift shop that was limited and very expensive. With all that said I had a really nice time. Thank you.

Wonderful property, great location to downtown Playa del Carmen, vast assortment of foods all with excellent quality. In room full size bar...staff that is quick, helpful and always smiling!
Lovely evening shows!!
Bravo!! Especially for the price in comparison to other properties next door.
Only downfall was, we wished the ac got cooler...it said 18c (65f) but felt more like 72f

We LOVED this resort. The rooms were a little older, but who cares?! They were clean and had everything we needed. The staff was amazing and the food was good! When you go to an all inclusive you shouldn't expect 5 star meals, but all the food we had was good! Great selections at the buffets and never lines at the restaurants. It was a great mix of families and spring breakers. We will definitely be back!

This is our fifth time in Mexico, and third time in a Riu resort. It’s tough to make an extremely critical review, as it acknowledges that what you paid did not equal what you believed you were getting. I will break down my review into components.

Hotel grounds:
The grounds were clean, and natural areas beautiful. The kids thought that the large rodent and raccoon like animals throughout were neat. The pools were small, overcrowded, missing tiles and in a poor state of repair. Swim up bar was small and not connected to other pools. The beach was absolutely amazing and well kept. The grounds in general were overpopulated without enough common space, pools, or loungers for the number of guests.

Rooms:
We’re small, and run down. Paint chipped off all furniture, sink cracked, vent hanging down in shower. The doors between adjacent rooms faced each other in a small access hall. The doors slammed whenever closed and were very noisy.

Food:
The food was by far the worst we have ever had at a resort in Mexico. The specialty restaurants were bland, meals weren’t anything more than plated cafeteria food, and service was poor in general. The exception to poor service was the Italian restaurant, where we got good service, but still bland food. After trying each specialty restaurant, we decided to only go to the buffet, as you could see what you were getting before committing to it.

Drinks:
Drinks at the bar were fine, with reasonable wait times.

All is the staff were so friendly,. Every staff member we would pass would always get us with a genuine smile and a good morning./day.
Bartenders learned quickly what you liked to drink and would have it ready as i was coming up to them. We were very impressed with the quality of breakfast/dinners. The buffets always had a few different items to try which was nice. . We tried 2 of the specialty dining and enjoyed them very much. We would definitely return to this property.

Pros: the beach was beautiful, breakfast was pretty good, the rooms were very clean and the grounds well maintained. All the wildlife at the resort was a bonus for our kids! Our kids really enjoyed the white party at Tequila on Friday night.

Cons: the food options for lunch and dinner were pretty terrible, other than salad or fresh fruit, birds were eating off the buffet and people’s plates at the buffets, people leaving their towels on deck chairs all day to reserve them but not use them (making it hard to find a spot at times), and the entertainment was pretty terrible (they tried but honestly my daughter’s year end dance recital was more well done) - timing was off, music was off etc.

The staff at this hotel is very professional, accommodating and friendly. They really try to make your stay a great experience. The hotel itself is very clean,rooms are spacious and the location can't be beat! The gym is small,has everything you might need for a comprehensive workout but a couple of the elliptical machines were broken. Bring your own towels if you go before the spa opens. The evening entertainment was just ok but one can go to a couple of the other Riu hotel and take advantage of their offerings. We enjoyed the food at the main buffet the most,as most did,so it was constantly refilled and very fresh and had a huge selection of items.I personally was disappointed with the food at the Mexican restaurant, I had the shrimp and they must have been sitting under a heating lamp for 30+ min, and my companions selections did not fair much better. The other speciality restaurants were ok.Overall I highly recommend this Hotel and would book further stays with the Riu hotel chain in other locations as well. ( I did not receive a voucher at check in or notification for the Resort $$ offered but wouldn't have needed them during my stay personally,so I didn't ask further about them)

Overall Riu Yucatan was good. This was our first all inclusive resort and the staff was great. This resort was not horrible but I definitely think it's fair to know what you're getting into. I can say the resort rooms are a little older which was okay but they occasionally smelled like sewage (we had 4 different rooms) and also a couple of times while at the pool, we caught that same smell. A few of their public restrooms were clogged a few different days so maybe they were just having plumbing issues at the time we were there. The power went out for about 6 hours one of the days of our stay. There was no entertainment at our resort we had to walk down to the Riu Tequila a couple the nights to participate in whatever the other resort had going on. The resort gets real quiet after 9pm. The food was mid and the restaurants open times are very scheduled. Having more authentic Mexican food would have been nice. Lastly, if you want a chair on the beach or by the pool you best be up around 730/8am to get one. Anytime after 930am they were completely taken (pool and beach chairs) which sucks because some like to sleep in on their vacation.
I would like to try anothet RIU when returning just not this one.

The beach was amazing and the pools and resort plan were fantastic. Loved the entertainment and all the staff were very good. Wish the food and drinks had been better quality. When comparing the cost to a European Plan hotel plus pay as you go food, I don't see an advantage. Will try something else next time.

Our riu transport to the hotel didn’t arrive and we had to go into a very old and small ride when we paid for a nice one for 8.

We asked for two beds and we could only get 1 so we had to share. And that was awkward because there was no door on the bathroom or shower so you could see the person naked in the shower.

The tv was old, melting and broken. There was only 1 plug on one side of the bed.

All the staff were amazing. From cleaning to entertainment and servers.

To many people most times at buffet no food one time I got a plate went thru line and found nothing to eat. It seemed the staff could not keep up with supplying food for all the people.
Also no access to bathroom from beach or pools the ones available where quite aways away. Did not see many using the restrooms behind theater which makes me think they were peeing in pool which I never went in because of this. The staff was great rooms were nice my opinion need closer rest rooms and a better system to supply food to all the people

I have been to Mexico many many times so i have a good understanding of what the resorts offer and should look like depending on Price point. I had never stayed at a RIU resort so i went in with good hope. This resort is listed as a 5 star resort, they advertise it on a big sign and it lights up at night. If you're going to give yourself 5 stars then it should reflect it everywhere. The RIU Yucatan falls VERY short of 5 stars. I rated this 3 stars primarily due to the grounds, beached and pools. The rooms we were give were of the level of a Motel 6 at best here in the states. My family and i booked 2 rooms (6 People) Both rooms were dingy, peeling paint, Poor ventilation, scratched and stained furniture and our 1st set of rooms had ants everywhere. 1 of the things i dont understand about the rooms is that the shower is essentially in your BR, the glass door has no privacy, i can understand if its just you and your significant others but what about when you have children in the room? Makes no sense that you cant have any privacy. The rooms are dated and need a massive overhaul. The drinks were good in the main lobby other than that all watered down. We were given new rooms after the 2nd day which were cleaner and didn't make my wife cough so we were thankful for that but still the same rooms, extremely dated and on the small side. No elevators to go up and down either so keep that in mind if you're on the 2nd or 3rd floors... All in all i would stay away, nothing special.

Stayed with my family and overall the experience did NOT meet expectations, despite the positive reviews.

The beach is beautiful, and some staff are kind and hardworking. However, the lack of chairs or loungers at both the pool and the beach was extremely disappointing. There were NO spots to sit or relax at any time, which made it difficult to enjoy the resort, specially travelling with kids

Buffet food is repetitive and average. The one à la carte restaurant we tried (Mexican) had very slow service, and the steakhouse had over an hour wait.

Rooms are outdated. Our room balcony was facing the service entrance, which was EXTREMELY loud early in the morning. We changed rooms once due to noise issues.

During the room change, we were told we could store valuables at the front desk, but this was later denied. The front desk supervisor was rude and dismissive, forcing us to carry passports, cash, and a laptop for hours. 11am till check out the new room at 3pm

Drinks are low quality, and one bartender was rude when asked about brand options. I asked how does it work if I want Bacardi and he said I am not a magician I can’t read your mind.

Overall, while some staff were great, the experience did not match expectations. And with absolutely no spots to relax on the beach our stay was very disappointing

The resort grounds and beach are beautiful, and the front-line staff (restaurant, housekeeping) are genuinely friendly and work hard. That’s the only reason this isn’t a 1-star review.
On December 17 in Room 1105 the tap water turned brown with a strong sewage smell. Technician confirmed it, General Manager Angel dismissed it as “stagnant pipes” despite multiple use since check-in. Requested a simple move to RIU Palace, CAR or any, after they verified availability, was quoted an extra $180/night exploiting the situation. Declined the upcharge and was moved to Room 1301 as a “temporary” fix.
That move never happened. Despite repeated calls to RIU’s main line, emails to complaints department, and long chats with Expedia, no one took responsibility. I spent the remaining four nights brushing teeth and washing my face with bottled water.
Room 1301 issues:
• Stained bed sheets
• Broken/worn drawers and closet doors
• Toilet only flushed if you held the button down
• Bathroom sink drained very slowly
• Water odor alternated between heavy chlorine and raw sewage
Staff were polite but clearly afraid to act without endless manager approvals, even delivering a bottle of water took 20 minutes. I kept tipping because the problem is management, not the workers.
Deeply disappointed. Serious hygiene and maintenance problems, zero accountability, and a ruined vacation. Will not return.

Need to upgrade rooms! Humid with bad odour rooms, came home and can’t wash out the bad smell from clothes, suitcase and even shoes, everything smells bad like mildew. Not enough hooks to hang towels, no toiletries, shampoo and soup cheapest quality. There is good minibar, enough water. Room service is great. Food is ok. Around the pool is anonymous amount of sand, some people even rinse their shoes in the pool. The steps to the beach are covered with thick layer of sand, nobody cleans them. Cocktails were good quality. Overall stuff is very nice and respectful. The beach is amazing, clean, powdery sand, can walk far in the water. Entertainment people were amazing. The RIU hotels need to be updated to stay in good reputation. There is a closet like convenience store with very high prices and low inventory. No not returning nor recommending.

We loved our stay at Riu Yucatán and had a great overall experience, especially considering the price.
The food was very good, with a wide variety of options, so we didn’t even feel the need to book the à la carte restaurants. There were plenty of fish and meat dishes, salads, fruits, and different Mexican options. Breakfast was excellent as well, with everything from omelettes to sweets.
The beach and sea are beautiful — white sand, clear water, and almost no seaweed during our stay. The beach itself is stunning.
The staff were fantastic: always helpful, friendly, and everything around the resort was spotless.
The animation and activities seemed good too, although we didn’t participate much ourselves.
One of the highlights for us was the wildlife on the property. We saw coatis, birds, and iguanas, and we were told that monkeys can be spotted as well — a really nice touch, especially with kids.
Downsides:
The rooms are a bit outdated, but they are still very functional, clean, and comfortable.
There are no umbrellas on the beach. There are palm trees, but with kids the shade isn’t always enough.
At checkout, our key cards were blocked exactly at noon sharp we didn’t know and accidentally closed the room but we still had some belongings inside, which was inconvenient.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, great value for money, and we would definitely recommend!

Room very clean . Older ,rusty shower tub but other than that excellent.Room steward (Jorge) very friendly and helpful.Entertainment top notch. Restaurant and bar service always pleasent.Beach and pool area maintained clean at all time. Plenty sun loungers and umbrellas.Smoking areas could use a refresher.Overall friendly staff and nice propriety. Stayed here twice in the past years. Recommended .

The rooms were clean however the smell of mold was always there. Very dated rooms. Very comfortable beds though.
Staff was great all over. Better entertsjnment than most all- includives ive been to.
Resort was very clean everywhere you went. You never saw anything left on tables or dirty tables anywhere.
You can't go wrong with staying at the Riu Yucatan. Lots of fun

Our stay may the Riu Yucatan was okay. The staff were all great. They are keeping a place going that needs updating. Shout out to Gustavo and the rest of the Entertainment and Activity staff. They work incredibly hard. Loved the pool games, White party, Silent Disco. Building 8 needs updating. Cleaning could be improved. Stains on pillows, floor washing. Our minibar water was only refilled when requested. A water supply repair was done quickly. Food had options, but main meals were never hot. Even the al a carte restaurants. Bartenders were good everywhere. The mobile cart serviced by Manuel at the pool was good. The beach was beautiful with lots of seating.

The room was over scented, but exceptionally clean and the staff was very pleasant. Anyone I encountered in the walkways was courteous and greeted me.
