Overall Riu Yucatan was good. This was our first all inclusive resort and the staff was great. This resort was not horrible but I definitely think it's fair to know what you're getting into. I can say the resort rooms are a little older which was okay but they occasionally smelled like sewage (we had 4 different rooms) and also a couple of times while at the pool, we caught that same smell. A few of their public restrooms were clogged a few different days so maybe they were just having plumbing issues at the time we were there. The power went out for about 6 hours one of the days of our stay. There was no entertainment at our resort we had to walk down to the Riu Tequila a couple the nights to participate in whatever the other resort had going on. The resort gets real quiet after 9pm. The food was mid and the restaurants open times are very scheduled. Having more authentic Mexican food would have been nice. Lastly, if you want a chair on the beach or by the pool you best be up around 730/8am to get one. Anytime after 930am they were completely taken (pool and beach chairs) which sucks because some like to sleep in on their vacation.

When comparing the cost to a European Plan hotel plus pay as you go food, I don't see an advantage. Will try something else next time.

We asked for two beds and we could only get 1 so we had to share. And that was awkward because there was no door on the bathroom or shower so you could see the person naked in the shower.
The tv was old, melting and broken. There was only 1 plug on one side of the bed.

To many people most times at buffet no food one time I got a plate went thru line and found nothing to eat. It seemed the staff could not keep up with supplying food for all the people.
Also no access to bathroom from beach or pools the ones available where quite aways away. Did not see many using the restrooms behind theater which makes me think they were peeing in pool which I never went in because of this. The staff was great rooms were nice my opinion need closer rest rooms and a better system to supply food to all the people

I have been to Mexico many many times so i have a good understanding of what the resorts offer and should look like depending on Price point. I had never stayed at a RIU resort so i went in with good hope. This resort is listed as a 5 star resort, they advertise it on a big sign and it lights up at night. If you're going to give yourself 5 stars then it should reflect it everywhere. The RIU Yucatan falls VERY short of 5 stars. I rated this 3 stars primarily due to the grounds, beached and pools. The rooms we were give were of the level of a Motel 6 at best here in the states. My family and i booked 2 rooms (6 People) Both rooms were dingy, peeling paint, Poor ventilation, scratched and stained furniture and our 1st set of rooms had ants everywhere. 1 of the things i dont understand about the rooms is that the shower is essentially in your BR, the glass door has no privacy, i can understand if its just you and your significant others but what about when you have children in the room? Makes no sense that you cant have any privacy. The rooms are dated and need a massive overhaul. The drinks were good in the main lobby other than that all watered down. We were given new rooms after the 2nd day which were cleaner and didn't make my wife cough so we were thankful for that but still the same rooms, extremely dated and on the small side. No elevators to go up and down either so keep that in mind if you're on the 2nd or 3rd floors... All in all i would stay away, nothing special.

The beach is beautiful, and some staff are kind and hardworking. However, the lack of chairs or loungers at both the pool and the beach was extremely disappointing. There were NO spots to sit or relax at any time, which made it difficult to enjoy the resort, specially travelling with kids
Buffet food is repetitive and average. The one à la carte restaurant we tried (Mexican) had very slow service, and the steakhouse had over an hour wait.
Rooms are outdated. Our room balcony was facing the service entrance, which was EXTREMELY loud early in the morning. We changed rooms once due to noise issues.
During the room change, we were told we could store valuables at the front desk, but this was later denied. The front desk supervisor was rude and dismissive, forcing us to carry passports, cash, and a laptop for hours. 11am till check out the new room at 3pm
Drinks are low quality, and one bartender was rude when asked about brand options. I asked how does it work if I want Bacardi and he said I am not a magician I can’t read your mind.
Overall, while some staff were great, the experience did not match expectations. And with absolutely no spots to relax on the beach our stay was very disappointing

The resort grounds and beach are beautiful, and the front-line staff (restaurant, housekeeping) are genuinely friendly and work hard. That’s the only reason this isn’t a 1-star review.
On December 17 in Room 1105 the tap water turned brown with a strong sewage smell. Technician confirmed it, General Manager Angel dismissed it as “stagnant pipes” despite multiple use since check-in. Requested a simple move to RIU Palace, CAR or any, after they verified availability, was quoted an extra $180/night exploiting the situation. Declined the upcharge and was moved to Room 1301 as a “temporary” fix.
That move never happened. Despite repeated calls to RIU’s main line, emails to complaints department, and long chats with Expedia, no one took responsibility. I spent the remaining four nights brushing teeth and washing my face with bottled water.
Room 1301 issues:
• Stained bed sheets
• Broken/worn drawers and closet doors
• Toilet only flushed if you held the button down
• Bathroom sink drained very slowly
• Water odor alternated between heavy chlorine and raw sewage
Staff were polite but clearly afraid to act without endless manager approvals, even delivering a bottle of water took 20 minutes. I kept tipping because the problem is management, not the workers.
Deeply disappointed. Serious hygiene and maintenance problems, zero accountability, and a ruined vacation. Will not return.

Need to upgrade rooms! Humid with bad odour rooms, came home and can’t wash out the bad smell from clothes, suitcase and even shoes, everything smells bad like mildew. Not enough hooks to hang towels, no toiletries, shampoo and soup cheapest quality. There is good minibar, enough water. Room service is great. Food is ok. Around the pool is anonymous amount of sand, some people even rinse their shoes in the pool. The steps to the beach are covered with thick layer of sand, nobody cleans them. Cocktails were good quality. Overall stuff is very nice and respectful. The beach is amazing, clean, powdery sand, can walk far in the water. Entertainment people were amazing. The RIU hotels need to be updated to stay in good reputation. There is a closet like convenience store with very high prices and low inventory. No not returning nor recommending.

We loved our stay at Riu Yucatán and had a great overall experience, especially considering the price.
The food was very good, with a wide variety of options, so we didn’t even feel the need to book the à la carte restaurants. There were plenty of fish and meat dishes, salads, fruits, and different Mexican options. Breakfast was excellent as well, with everything from omelettes to sweets.
The beach and sea are beautiful — white sand, clear water, and almost no seaweed during our stay. The beach itself is stunning.
The staff were fantastic: always helpful, friendly, and everything around the resort was spotless.
The animation and activities seemed good too, although we didn’t participate much ourselves.
One of the highlights for us was the wildlife on the property. We saw coatis, birds, and iguanas, and we were told that monkeys can be spotted as well — a really nice touch, especially with kids.
Downsides:
The rooms are a bit outdated, but they are still very functional, clean, and comfortable.
There are no umbrellas on the beach. There are palm trees, but with kids the shade isn’t always enough.
At checkout, our key cards were blocked exactly at noon sharp we didn’t know and accidentally closed the room but we still had some belongings inside, which was inconvenient.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay, great value for money, and we would definitely recommend!

Our stay may the Riu Yucatan was okay. The staff were all great. They are keeping a place going that needs updating. Shout out to Gustavo and the rest of the Entertainment and Activity staff. They work incredibly hard. Loved the pool games, White party, Silent Disco. Building 8 needs updating. Cleaning could be improved. Stains on pillows, floor washing. Our minibar water was only refilled when requested. A water supply repair was done quickly. Food had options, but main meals were never hot. Even the al a carte restaurants. Bartenders were good everywhere. The mobile cart serviced by Manuel at the pool was good. The beach was beautiful with lots of seating.

The bars were well staffed for the most part and the servers very friendly and enthusiastic! Our room, which was a Suite C, was large and located in Building 6 - very central & convenient!
We did have trouble with the toilet flushing and found out we were not to flush toilet paper in the toilet???? WHY NO SIGNAGE TO ADVISE OF THAT PROBLEM? We also couldn't get our TV to operate...never did get that fixed. Our 'safe', once items placed inside and door locked with code - we couldn't reopen! Had to have a fellow come open for us. Entertainment in the evening was alright.....not exceptional, just alright. Beaches are beautiful...sandy, no rocks or stones at all. We had a huge balcony but usually too hot to sit out there. Air conditioning worked perfectly!!! Also in-suite fridge/bar was a treat because all drinks were included!!! overall - was fun & safe!!!

The rooms are decently clean, shower head had noticeable built up dust that obviously looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in a few weeks or months. The food variety is very limited for an all inclusive resort, most of the food is reused at the other “restaurants” they have on the resort. The staff is usually friendly! I don’t run into any rude or non helpful staff. My first night checking in, I was moved to their sister hotel the Riu Palace for the night because the room I had booked had “unexpected air conditioning problems”, which was a bit irritating but it was fixed the next day and wasn’t an issue to resolve. A man by the name of Tito was extremely helpful during that first night. I would stay here again, I would just hope for better and more thorough clean, and a wider variety of food!

This is such a great location to enjoy the beach and the pool at your own schedule. The bars and food are conveniently placed. The staff are amazing especially when interacting with the kids.

RIU Yucatan was a good place to stay. On the upside, the kitchen workers kept the place very clean, there was a good variety of food for my 4 night stay, the optional restaurants were good and provided freshly cooked steak and seafood at 2 of the restaurants (\"Sicilia\" Italian restaurant \"La Margarita\" steakhouse.) I had the ribeye at La Margarita and the Salmon at Sicilia, the Salmon was very good and the ribeye was okay. The grounds were kept up very well and the pool experience and entertainment were very good.
If there was a downside I would say the optional restaurants were under-staffed and don't expect to get checked into your room until 3PM, we got in very early (8am) but waited until around 3 for our room. Unlike Baja many of the workers don't speak or understand english well, although they were all very respectful and tried to help.

In need of a renovation/update. The hotel staff is wonderful. A few of the “green shirts” or shift leads I believe, are a little fussy. Hotel management is great. Entertainment staff is amazing. Great stay. If we came again, we may stay at Tequila or Playacar and then hang out at Yucatán during the day (mostly because of room accommodations).

We woke up several times to people yelling, slamming doors, loudly vomiting and that was not enjoyable. Maybe if they could put family in one area and more \"party\" type in another area?!?!
