We just returned from our 4th stay at Royal Hideaway and we had a wonderful 10 days. The property was beautiful and we were very impressed with the large number of staff working each day on the property. Our room was great and our housekeeper was excellent! The staff throughout the complex are warm, friendly and very helpful. The restaurants were delicious and we enjoyed having our favorites again. The beach was beautiful but did have some seaweed. The staff and workers were diligent in removing the seaweed daily with a tractor. We have always enjoyed staying here and look forward to returning again next year.

The property is run down, and the pictures online are deceiving. The room did not feel clean, it had a bad smell, everything was old, the grounds were old and not well maintained as far as repairs. We stayed for about an hour mainly bc I had to take the time to find another hotel and get a taxi booked to get out of there.

Ground are looked after very well. Pools / beach are exceptional.Very difficult to get a chair around a pool... Very difficult to enjoy the stay in a room that was not satisfactory. Very dissapointed in they way issues of the room where delt with. Every problem was turned around and manipulated to be our issue. Entering the room with the do not disturb sign on. There are many good things about this resort but in the end the room made the stay uncomfortable.

The staff at this resort definitely makes the experience so so great. Ricky, the concierge, accommodated our large group’s needs and took care of any need we had. The waitstaff was always very friendly and kept the drinks flowing… shoutout to Genaro who was so friendly and always went the extra mile for us. There’s so many activities offered throughout the day and Carlos and Roberto made everything so so fun. This was our second time at this resort and it won’t be our last!

The staff stood out. We have David at security, Wilson in the restaurants Henry and Luis at the pool went beyond just service. Rooms were great and beach and food was fantastic..what they need to do is stop saving spots for returning guests all pool chairs are reserved for them so new guests will never get a chair there unless you get up a 6 to get the few that are not taken…build them their own pool if this is that important to do.

The resort is very clean and staff very attentive. Palazzo had the best food of all of the restaurants. If you want a chair by the pool you’ll need to get up by 7am to fight for one though. They sit all day with towels on them. Would definitely return, however I’d ask for a first floor room. We were on the third floor which equates to four flights of stairs and there are no elevators available.

We had an absolutely wonderfl and relaxing stay at the Royal Hideaway. We enjoyed it so much we would love to go back to visit. Staff is amazing. Everyone was kind, helpful, and willing to help. This is truly a rare quality to find at resorts now a days. The room was well furnished and beds were so heavenly to sleep in. The food was hit and miss, but when it was a hit... ohh it was delicious.The buffet was always a good bet. The beach was incredible. Shallow water for days. The beach service was top notch and chairs were always available. We saw at least 2 beach service people walkjng around taking drink and food orders from 9 am till 5 pm. They were also quick to return with your items. This is the best beach service I have seen. It even tops the butlers I have had at numerous Sandals resorts. The infrastructure is beautiful but shows wear and tear. They paint over areas that can really use repair, but thus qould be the only area of improvement. But everything else was so wonderful that any of this was almost an afterthought. Guests tend to be couples and older. Not a party ir loud resort. This resort is all about relaxation. Check in and out was fast and efficient. We cant wait to return!

Spices the Mexican restaurant was decent, but the service was extremely slow
The grill, the steakhouse the appetizers were good. The steak was horrible. They served a New York strip, which was overcooked hard to eat.
The Italian was amazing. I have no complaints.
The Mediterranean was amazing. I have no complaints.
The Asian was amazing as well.
Overall, for the price it was good.

We really enjoyed the location, resort and staff here. The beach was beautiful, with great views and delicious food. The resort and local shops don’t like to offer change for bills you get from the ATM, so plan ahead and get smaller bills before going to Mexico if you can, otherwise you’re basically spending $25 minimum every time you pay cash. You can pay card for things but it vibes with a percentage markup.

Love the traditional feel of this resort. The small relaxing pools give you secluded lagoon feel. Everyone was so amazing & helpful, EXCEPT Armando. He was our pavilion concierge. He wouldnt work with us at all. Put every dinner reservation @ 8 or 8:30. Didn't even book dinner for our last night. When they changed consierges on our ladt day, our new concierge was fabulous! She called up & got us a last minute reservation for 6pm. Prearranged our breakfast to arrive at a specific time before our departure.

This was a smaller resort which was wonderful, the staff was amazing and attentive to your every need, making you feel like family, not just a number. food was excellent, with quality choices and ingredients, the food presentation was second to none. Cleanliness of the resort was awesome, some of the relax pools are in need of attention, but they were actively working on that while we were there. We have been to the Riviera Maya ten times in the past 8 years and have never stayed at the same resort twice. This resort will definitely be an exception to the rule as we will definitely be back many more times in the future. Highly recommend this resort if you want a very relaxing and quiet vacation with top notch service, food, and amenities.

Super spotless clean, very quiet, no parties (older age group), food was pretty good but chicken was terribly overdone at every restaurant but shrimp, fish and octopus were all good. The beach is wonderful with powder white sand and small waves. This location is somewhat sheltered from seaweed and they clean up the seaweed very fast. I recommend this place and it was an amazing value for us.

Loved our stay. We were here for 7 nights and it still wasn't enough to enjoy everything the property had to offer. ALL the staff was amazing. Everyone was so incredibly helpful and kind. We traveled with my 85 year old grandma and they accommodated switching our room part way through our stay since the stairs became hard for her to manage. We had a wonderful stay at the Royal Hideaway. The a/c in our Sunset room was not working correctly on our first night. Someone did come to fix it and it was slightly better the second night, but the room was still warm. We advised our concierge, Suncil, who upgraded us to a suite for the balance of our week. This was the only problem we had, but it was quickly rectified. Both rooms were extremely clean and this is possibly the cleanest resort we have ever stayed at, out of the 15 all inclusive trips we have made to the Caribbean. The restaurants were all delicious, with Azia and The Grill being our favorites for dinner. Lunch at The Deck was great every day with numerous buffet or menu selections. The bars were all excellent with almost every top brand liquor being available. Wish we remembered the bartenders names at Bar Allegra, but they were great. We will definitely put Royal Hideaway on our list for return visits. Thanks for a great week!

The property was beautiful and it was pleasing to the eyes.

I knew there was a problem with the A/C before we got there because it was set to 13C, but it was 23C in the room… the lowest the room temp got to the entire time was 22.5C, and it was running the entire time. While the beds felt great, it was uncomfortable sleeping at such high temps.

Our shower was also difficult to control, as it was either all cold or scalding water… there was no in-between.

The food, while there were plenty of options, was less than desirable. This was one of our first vacations where we both lost weight. We found dishes we could eat, but had a tough time as we didn’t want to eat the same thing every meal… breakfast was probably the best thing there.

Our concierge Ricky was awesome. He was kind and really seemed to know how to help us with anything we needed, although I will admit that I didn’t mention the A/C until the final full day we were there, after asking another guest about their A/C experience.

We make an intentional effort to not be a nagging couple. We agreed that cruises will be our vacation of choice after this experience, even though we did enjoy spending our anniversary together.

Great property, nicely setup and well taken care of. Common areas are fantastic, with touch of luxury and authenticity. Food is nothing special, average at best, but the restaurants setup is really nice. If you like activities, the staff is not that interested in summoning people in to participate, there is not an active engagement to get few people in to play volleyball or stretch. If you are there, you're there, if no one shows up they leave. Service is wonderful, rooms are great. Beach is super nice, but seaweed is unbearable, like in all areas of that coast. Water is brown. I am a beach person and dont like swimming pools, yet couldn't force myself to go into the water, it was that bad. Yet again, it is not a property issue, it is a regional issue at large. Outside areas are nice and safe to walk. There is a small shopping plaza right across and Playa Del Carmen is 25 minutes away walking. Cab is $10 each way. The whole area is safe and fun to walk around. The whole Playacar area is gated, and the hotel is double gated. We had a great time.

We stayed at the Royal Hideaway Playacar from July 24-28, 2025, and everything was fabulous! My husband and I have never stayed at an adult only resort, but we will definitely be back. Each villa has a dedicated concierge. Our room was in Villa 22, and our concierge was Cipriano. He was wonderful! He anticipated our needs and helped us with things we didn’t know to ask him about! He made sure we had our dinner reservations set up for each evening, and reminded us to set up our transportation back to the airport when our stay was coming to an end. He gave us great recommendations, tips and tricks for our excursion to Cozumel. His advice definitely saved us from what could have been a frustrating situation. Every single staff member, from the check in staff, to the concierges, the event staff, the servers and hosts in the restaurants, the maintenance crews, and housekeeping staff were all so pleasant and always had smiles on their faces. No request was annoying to them, they just happily accommodated. We felt valued and taken care of from the moment we stepped onto the property until the very last second we were there. If you are someone who enjoys the big parties at other resorts, (the foam parties at the pool, the crazy contests, the loud music and flashing lights, guests drinking until getting hammered drunk, and dancing the night away), this might not be an enjoyable resort experience for you. The clientele are definitely an older, more mature crowd, but so much fun!

I recently stayed at The Royal Hideaway in Playa del Carmen, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcomed and well taken care of. The resort itself is stunning tucked away in a peaceful, adults-only setting with beautifully maintained grounds, private beach access, and luxurious amenities throughout.

The food and drinks were top-tier. Every restaurant on site offered a different culinary experience, and the service was consistently attentive and friendly. The grounds are beautiful, our room was clean and spacious. Couldn’t get the shower to work consistently- temperature kept varying between extremely hot and cold, despite asking management to fix it twice. Food and service at Italian restaurant was excellent. Had a disappointing encounter with one member of staff in the restaurant at the beach ( which served breakfast and lunch) who was determined not to give me two spoons one day when I had ordered uber eats and wanted to eat in our room. Two spoons and he would not give them to me . After about an hour and having to go to the Mai desk, I got the two spoons for our now cold food. There is a bar there open most of the time called Allegria which has about as much atmosphere as the moon. They do afternoon tea in the main building which is nice. There are about 3 or 4 pools, 3 of which look like they have a hot pool, don’t be fooled, they’re not. The pools, however, are nice.

This turned out to be an amazingly relaxing vacation at Royal Hideaway. I’m only giving 4 stars because of the immense amount of seaweed in the ocean at the time (not the resorts fault). The food was excellent here!! And the grounds are kept immaculate. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. It’s wasn’t too crowded and the whole resort has an overall quiet atmosphere, but still fun at the main pool with activities. Shopping right across the street with a short walk. Highly recommend visiting this resort in Playa!

This was our third time to this resort. Haven’t been in about 10 years . Still a solid adults only resort. Wonderful beach and clean pools and wonderful food. I highly recommend if you want very relaxing , low key adults only resort. We prefer a smaller hotel. Very walkable. Love the room service and all the workers are so nice and very helpful. Loved the live guitar player by the pool. Spices was our favorite restaurant. We do miss the ceviche and tuna tartar that used to be served at lunch. The paella lunch by the pool was great. Plan to go back next year.

The Royal Hideaway is an absolutely beautiful resort with an incredible beach for miles and turquoise waters! The food and staff is top notch. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure everything is perfect. It’s also close to downtown which is nice if you want to escape the quiet and go and experience the Fifth Ave life. Resort is quiet and peaceful. I love it and will definitely return soon.

We loved our sisters’ trip to Royal Hideaway. Staff on the whole was very helpful. Beach was great first two days then the wind picked up and in spite of every effort on the part of the hotel, seaweed kept coming in on big waves. We were made very comfortable at the pool area. Shout out to Roberto, Exal and Raul. Dining options were pretty good though later seatings are pressured to leave due to closed kitchens. Carlo at Spices was amazing. Swiss trained and a pro. Lunch not at all inspiring, I wish the grill was out there every day. David, our unit concierge was very helpful and Perla our room housekeeper was amazing. Nespresso machine in room perfect. Btw, the room was very adequate, yes a bit dated but well spread out with a generous balcony/porch and big bathroom with 2 sinks and separate spaces. My sister had a great time with tennis instruction and gym was great for me. We are coming back next year…small, chill and very safe resort. Waaay better than the last 2 resorts we were at close by. Highly recommend!

This is the place you hope you’re booking when you book an all-inclusive resort. It’s beautiful, well-maintained, the rooms are spectacular, the balconies are large, palm trees everywhere, it’s quiet, has multiple pools, some hidden away in corners, the staff are excellent, the food is amazing, and there’s plenty of space on the beach to lounge. Every pair of loungers comes with a shade and a table for drinks. Servers come around routinely and the drinks are awesome. The restaurants themselves are incredible and we are so very happy with our stay. We’d recommend this place to anyone we love, and plan to go back ourselves next winter.

My wife and I had an excellent vacation. The hotel was clean and quiet and the food was consistently very good. Only complaint is the difficulty securing lounge chairs at the main pool. But we really enjoyed the quiet and privacy of the two small pools. Staff was excellent. Beer selection included good brands - Corona, Pacifico, Modelo plus light options. Our concierge, Sandra, is fantastic.
