We’ve been coming to the Barcelo for more than 20 years. We were very surprised to see how rundown it had become and how poorly it was maintained. The food was mediocre, at best, meats every day were dried out and we watched other guests sawing to cut pieces off. Our room was not cleaned and no clean towels provided 2 of our 7 days there. In addition, the gift shop at the pool area completely ripped us off. There was no price tag on a 6oz bottle of sunscreen and shame on us for not asking the cost. We anticipated paying $20 or so, which would have been more than double its store cost,especially since we’re guests, but when the charge appeared on our credit card, they had charged us $56!!! We thought it must be a mistake, but no, rip your guests off and extort them. Needless to say, we will not ever be returning to the Barcelo.

We had a wonderful trip to Barcelo Maya Caribe. We loved how big and beautiful our resort was and loved being able to walk to and explore the sister resorts- each one had beautiful details and places to see and it was fun to discover new things every day. During our stay we had two dinners that we had to reserve at the ale crate restaurants, other than that we could eat at any of the buffets. The buffets were great - food was always fresh and cooked to perfection. Fruit and fruit juices were incredible. There were “snack bars” buffet style restaurants by the beach and pools which we went to for lunch and those were great too! We did get turned away from Tokyo (one of the ale cadre restaurants) because my husband was wearing flip flops (even though most people wore flip flops or sandals walking out of there ) so next time we will bring sneakers. The staff worked incredibly hard to keep the place clean inside and outside. It was the perfect vacation without our kids but we are strongly considering planning a family trip in the future as it is a great place for kids as well!

Beautiful Resort!!! Buffets indoor and open air buffets by the beach were delicious and fresh. Breakfast had fresh squeezed orange juice, Champagne 🍾, made to order juice smoothies, made to order eggs and omlettes, fresh fruit, yogurt, and yogurt smoothies drinks. Specialty Restaurants were very good. Beach was nice. If you go down by the Palace the water was clear blue when we were there 4/25/26 - 5/2/26. You didn't even need snorkeling equipment and you could see turtles come up for air. Very nice resort, only lacking the wildlife such as Monkeys, Coati's, ect as we seen on other resorts. I rate this resort 5 stars 🌟 for a Resort in Mexico. We stayed in the Barcello Caribe. Even there resort gift shops were cheaper on items then in at Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. They do have an outdoor Mexican shopping center that was never busy when I saw, but they were pricee gouging with their absurd prices. One tube of Suntan lotion was $50 US as compared to price in gift shop at $38 US. In Playa Del Carmen, 5th Avenue I found it for $22 US dollars. So take enough suntan lotion, a med bag of things for common illnesses, and cosmetics you need before going. They do have body was, shampoo, and conditioner that was fine to use. So do your research!

Either we got lucky or it was truly an amazing trip for our family. The weather was perfect, all the amenities the hotel provided were great. Lots to do w kids. Restaurants were great as well. If anything I would critique the buffets. Could use a bit of flavor and change in menu. They had lots of choices but after the 3rd day eating the same menu got boring. Staff and room was clean and very comfortable for our family of 5, we stayed in the junior suite

Casino on property is very outdated with old slot machines. Very small square footage with very dark lighting. Tables are limited to about 6 total. Must pay a 7 percent fee on winnings on tables above what you bought in for. If you have losing receipts, you can claim them as a loss up until your same amount of winnings in order to not pay taxes on. Slot machines are a different deal all together. You go to the counter, give them amount you want to play, and they put a amount on a card for the slots. The percentage for winnings is a Mexican law, not the casinos, is what they told us. Casino does not open until 6:00 p.m. at night.
Blackjack tables were a minimum of a $10 bet with three to two odds. I played four nites and came out losing still. If you are a casino player, this is not the most popular entertainment. Even though the casino stated they were not part of the resort, I feel the resort could do a better job in getting a better entertainment in a casino for it's customers.

The ocean was slightly visible from my room. The room and buildings were kept clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The pools were kept clean. There was always people working outside to keep the property maintained. The buffet food wasn’t the greatest but the à la cartes were very good.

Beautiful beach and pools but need more chairs around the bigger pools.
Rooms were not good. No sound proofing and could hear everything in the hallway and bathroom. Beds were not comfortable. Weird noises and banging from the ceiling vents that woke us up every hour. Buffets were just ok. La carts were good. Tokyo was amazing. Enjoyed strikers at night for sure.

Barcelo was so much more than we could've expected! We came for our honeymoon and were truly blown away by the beauty of the property, the activities they constantly had going, how kind and helpful the staff was, everywhere you look someone is cleaning, the food was amazing and plentiful. I could go on for days on how amazing this property was. We were a premium level guest with the ability to explore the connecting resorts and all were so beautiful! We loved it so much we extended our stay 2 more nights. No regrets! We hope to be back same time next year!

All the nice restaurants you book were fully booked but the manager Carlos was very accommodating and booked us 5 restaurants for our six night stay. We have a few small issues that got taken care of. We were 8 and 2 of us booked 4 each and paid the same but 4 were premium and 4 were not which was strange. The room are clean but very dated. Good trip over all - the resort is very well looked after and clean

There were a lot of rocks on the beach, no food menu, people put their towels on the lounge chairs at 7:30 am and coming back couple hours later
On the other hand, selection of food was very good, servers were available most of the time
Few good concerts at night
In the room the bed was very comfortable and you have everything you need, iron with board, hairdryer, etc

And booking ala carts were a pain. The ala carts were excellent just harder than it needed to be to book. At other resorts we booked all week after we checked in. Here it was only 2 days at a time.

Horrible food, horrible service. Took all day to just check in. Ladies at the front desk don’t know what they are doing. Asked for an extra pillow each day and never got it. Stayed for 5 days there. Checked out a day early because it was so bad there. The buffet had expired milk and yogurt. Bagels and bread were rock hard and not edible. Italian restaurant there kept putting fowl spelling spoiled red sauce on everything so it wasn’t edible. Warning everyone do not stay here.

The entertainment staff is amazing on the Caribe side . They crush it out of the Park every time . Estrella is amazing , Juanito is vibrant and speaks such good English , my older Brother Jesus is fantastic , the Bananna is great , Mariana is beautiful and in the greatest shape !

The Italian restaurant is amazing led by the beautiful host, the manager , always remembers your name is wonderful, Frank is the best waiter known to man!

The Bar between the Italian and Tokyo led by the drill Sargent Fernanda is phenomenal. So beautiful and Radiant always remembers my drink and takes great care of me

The room was clean, comfortable mattress, crispy white sheets. The room itself is dated, lighting in the bathroom is bad if you are trying to do make up. The grounds are beautiful. The buffet is typical of all inclusive. We also went to the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant, it was really good. As we are beach and ocean people, we were not impressed with the ocean. It’s very shallow and flat which is fine if you have small kids but the entry is a bit rocky, you can’t see the rocks because the water isn’t super clear most of the time, some areas of sand on the bottom feel mushy as you walk and sometimes there would be a smell of rotten eggs in the water, very strange. But overall we had a good time.

The pools were very well maintained and we loved that the surfaces around the pool did not burn our feet! There were lots of activities, lounges were plentiful with filtered shade. I went there with another couple that doesn’t necessarily vacation to relax, and they were able to relax. There’s a lot of things that they could do just to be on their own individually and they found a way to vacation not only as a couple but individually, but still give us all opportunities to hang out together.

The resort has a whole is very upscale. The rooms are your normal rooms like a Hilton. Very large resort so you’re able to walk just about anywhere. I feel completely saved, but yet immersed in Mexico’s landscape.

My 3rd time at this resort and really noticed the deterioration. Food was substandard with not much variation. Issues with housekeeping at the beginning of our stay, but after numerous times mentioning them, they were all corrected and no problems after that with the room. Smoking on the beach was horrendous and the sand was littered with butts. Most staff were not as friendly as my previous stays, with most not even a smile! Rooms are very noisy, especially late at night as there is no enforcement of \"quiet zones\". Our sleeps were not the best for 2 weeks.
We are re-thinking a return to this resort all because of the above issues. What was previously a 5 star resort on my first visit has now dropped to a 3.5 star resort 😞 Too bad because we used to love it there.

I am a repeared guest for many years. I can say with confidence that the resort is wery well kept, plenty of soace to swim, eat, walk, etc. Staff is very friendly and helpful. BUT, its a huge BUT here the food. I am not sure what us tge reason but the food degradation is so obvious compared to couple of years ago. We usually had breakfast, lunch and dinner at main buffet at Caribe. Food was always cold, the badics were slways out and I am not talking about meat variaty or seafood, I am talking about cucumbers, or french fries that kids usually look for. We never book restaurant because we love variety, but this year was the first one from our 15 years at Barcelo when we booked restaurants because the food at the buffet was literally disgusting. Other than that it is a beautiful place to stay at.

This was my fifth stay at Barcelo. The grounds are always immaculate and beautiful. I don't know why, but I was eaten alive by mosquitoes this time...I never had an issue in the past. The food was good, although we were underwhelmed by Le Fuente. Most employees were friendly, with stand-outs being Yadira, Ana, and Jazmin in the Colonial pool area, and Daniel in the Caribe buffet...Daniel always made us feel at home and welcome.

The food was very good. There were many options to choose from. The one issue we experienced was the water that went from the shower to the toilet area every time the shower was turned on. We had to lay towels down to block the leaking area on the floor connecting the shower to the toilet area. Another issue was the ice machines out on the hallways that did not function. I didn't like the staff, they are very rude and foul-mouthed. You ask them about something and they never know anything. The food is very bad, tasteless and full of grease. Part of large beautiful resort complex with many things to do. Buffet food is pretty good. A la carte restaurants not worth going to as their food isn't really better but selection is much more limited. Beach isn't great, ok mostly for looks as it gets rocky deeper in the water. The best part of the beach is pier with lots of tropical fish underneath. One can jump of the piere and snorkel without need to waste money on tours like XelHa etc. Rooms ok, beds comortable, good AC. Bathroom had no lock and was rather small. Internet good, except on the beach. Pools are large, but quite shallow (4 ft). Cocktail drinks VERY bad. Nightly shows are not all enjoyable, I liked Mexican the best.

The food options were really limited. They don’t tell you that you only get a limited amount of cards to book the restaurants, for example (5 nights = 2 cards for restaurants). Otherwise, you don’t have access to them and will have to eat at the buffet every day. The buffet food didn’t look appetizing. The staff wasn’t super welcoming, we had to ask the waiters to bring us water with our food multiple times and had to wave them down to even come service us. As a non-native/non-Spanish speaker, the staff didn’t try to communicate with you or really give you great service. Obviously with some exceptions. The sheets weren’t fully clean as there were a few spots of leftover dirt from previous users. As it was the season for seaweed, the beach was cleaned every two days rather than every day, which made it difficult to enter the ocean, unlike other resorts. Due to the messy beach, the pool was a better option for our stay, which was really clean and taken care of, even though we were looking forward to spending all our time on the beach. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful. Absolutely great service. Lots of beach chairs with options for shade or sun. The Internet connection outside of the room was very minimal. Barely any Internet connection on the beach and the pool.
