We had a delicious breakfast each day at the Maya Beach Buffet, with exceptional service from Sylvia and Yarela, on the outside patio. We had memorable meals at different à la cartes, all of which were great and fun to try. We took part in activities at the Caribe pool in the day and had great lunches at the grills by the beach. We loved being on the beach and at the adults only pool and had no trouble finding loungers each day. Can’t wait to return!

Very important to learn a little Spanish as the workers english is very limited. I recommend staying at the colonial or the palace or the adult only newer and cleaner. We had fun, the adult only section of the resort was perfect for us. They had cabana’s for rent for 200 pesos around just get your reservation early in the morning (0830 ish) and it’s yours all day. The beach was not nice the only beach that was nice was at the colonial, palace and adult only section the other parts of the beach where not the best with all the seaweed and the sand felt like it was on top of a cement slab of some sort. The pools were very well maintained and the food was good, all kinds of options for sure. I recommend the steak house and the Japanese for the a la carts and just to do the buffet for the other nights. The bed was ok a little old and bumpy and the decor and door for outside was def outdated. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would not stay in this section of the resort again.

I needed to remove myself from this trip before writing a review. The moment we arrived, it went downhill. The hotel moved my party from Maya Beach to Maya Tropical. No notice, no warning. A downgrade. The staff at the bar and buffets were selective with their hospitality, my party was not the correct tone for friendly service despite tipping. The lifeguards and the beach were more interested in their phones than keeping and eye on the patrons in the water. My sister and BIL save a lady from trouble without one look from the lifeguard. The rooms were clean and cold, the food was decent and the drinks were good. The atmosphere was unwelcoming.

Barcelo Maya Beach is much bigger than we had anticipated. The 4 beachfront Barcelo hotels share the common areas so we had access to many facilities. The food was good and the location is beautiful. We would definitely stay there again.

Very disappointed with this resort. I chose it based on reviews that did not match reality. The rooms were clean, but the bathrooms were very outdated. There was no visible security, guests were fighting around 2–3 AM after parties, and no staff came to check on them, which felt unsafe and disrupted sleep. The beach also had no security. Buffet food was limited, soups were overly salty, and items were not refilled if you came later. Not suitable for a relaxing vacation—more of a party place. Would not recommend for relaxing.

Very clean, well laid out resort. The staff are very friendly. Rooms are very clean, a little dated but I really don’t care about that as long as they are clean and functional which they were. Beds were super comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. Stayed at Beach Uxmal it was a great location. Pool in this section is quite but the Caribe side offered some lively music and activities so it was great to hop from one to the other depending on the vibe you wanted. The beach has some rocky areas but in front of the Palace was some amazing snorkeling opportunities, we saw lots of turtles, stingrays, swordfish, various fish and a few sea urchins, wear water shoes. The snorkeling was a highlight! No need for an excursion. The buffets were pretty good, not a lot of menu changes but you can always find something good to eat. Captain Morgan’s was a favourite for lunch.
Ala carts were very good, Tokyo, Mexico Lindo and La Torretio spelling? (Italian) were really great, didn’t like the steak restaurant though. We saw a monkey, Iguanas and Coati’s not as much wild life as I was expecting to see based on previous reviews but at least we saw some. The resort was FULL but never felt crowded throughout although the chair game is real and you definitely need to get out early to find some chairs. We always used ours all day but far too many just save them but never actually use them and that is very disappointing to see. 100% would recommend this resort.

The resort was nice, but the rooms were a little dated. Bathroom was dated bathroom fan didn’t work hairdryer didn’t work, but you’re not in your room very often though when you’re on the resort, the pools were nice. The beach was nice. They only have one location for buffet breakfast and dinner. The first day I arrived at the resort I tried to book their restaurants, but they were all booked up except for two days and I could not go to the ones I wanted to. Pool chairs were limited and hard to get to most of the people put towels on the chairs early in the morning, so half of them are never used but don’t allow others to use them. The pools were clean and had plenty of space. Overall, we had a good time, but I had stayed at some other resorts that I liked a little better . I did not find most of the shows at night to be very entertaining. I did enjoy the Michael Jackson show other resorts had dancing and were a little more lively in the evening. The staff was friendly and a drink lines were relatively short overall it is good resort just not great.

The hotel Buffett restaurant was closed most of the time and we had to go to the next hotel restaurant to have breakfast and dinner. The lunch was only available at the next hotel beach restaurant, not at the main buffet, so we had to walk a lot for every meal.
At 5 PM at our hotel swimming pool bar the was not beer available, not draft, not canned beer, any beer at all!!
The lobby bar was closed the last day of our stay.
Customer service office only allowed us to reserve 1 specialty restaurant during our entire stay, which was 4 nights and 5 days.

The Barcelo Maya is a great all inclusive resort with surprisingly great buffets. It is ideal for families and couples alike. The service staff are incredibly kind and attentive. The restaurants are about on par for all inclusive style restaurants. The Lindo stood out and the other booking choices were fun with great experiences. The hours for the buffets could use an evaluation, it would be nice to keep them open for longer hours to all the families that did not choose premier option. The rooms were a bit outdated but the A/C worked and housekeeping was attentive and very detailed. The pools were clean for the most part. There is volleyball in and out of the pool that you can rent balls for at the hut by the beach that you get towels at. Also, the gift shop in this hut has better prices.They could use 1 to 2 more staff at the swim up bars during peak times in the afternoon and evenings. We found that just quickly getting out of the pool and going to the walk up bartender in front of the buffet lodges, was much faster. The shows are fun throughout the week, Michael Jackson and Karaoke night were very entertaining. The mall and merchant booths are fun at night after dinners. The merchants are willing to negotiate and they have nice keepsakes and typical tourist type gifts and clothing. The wave ride, mini golf and bowling are fun options. During the day mini golf is free and bowling is BOGO, so a good time to go. There is also food and bar that is 24 hr in the blowing alley.

I did not like that I paid for premium but could not get dinner reservations at the restaurants I wanted. Do not go there wanting specific restaurants.
The resort is beautiful, easy to navigate, large but very well maintained. The beach is not what I expected for Mexico. The water was not pretty at all.

Extremely disappointed in this place. The check in was a nightmare the receptionist was rude from the second I walked up, she was not trained correctly because had no idea about anything when it came to the resort. They have these nice restaurants that you have to make reservations for I asked if the food at those restaurants were included in the all inclusive she said no that it was extra, so we just made one reservation on our last night there to one of them out of 4, well when we get to our reservation we find out that it is included, meaning we could have tried all of them, because trust me the buffet food that we thought we only included was not all that great. Our room was Uhg the ac didn’t work, the hair dryer sparked and basically killed all the plugs in the room including tv, and fridge then I’m told they can’t change my room till 3 pm the next day so there goes our first day at this place, when they finally change us the entrance door needed like 3 people to push this thing open it was so hard to open and close but atleast the ac worked. At check in I was charged more than what Expedia said, which I did not make a big deal about until this girl calls me at 930 pm to tell me that I still owe a very low amount like why would you call so late for that amount I found that so unprofessional. The market tries to up charge everything. The place won’t let you use outside transportation because they want you to pay their expensive prices.

We have stayed at the Barceló resort more than ten times and have always enjoyed our visits. Unfortunately, our last two stays have been disappointing. The rooms are noticeably outdated, and the quality of the food has significantly declined. While we’ve always been able to find something to enjoy in the past, this time the food was consistently cold, bland, and lacked variety. Regrettably, the experience no longer reflects a 5-star standard—it feels more in line with a 3-star resort. We’ll likely be exploring other options for future vacations.

Serious shortages of lounge chairs by the pool and at the beach. People 'reserved' chairs by leaving their towels, but there was hardly anyone there yet nowhere to sit and relax by the pool. Early reservations at the restaurants were not available if you did not tip the person making the booking.

We stayed at Barcelo Maya Beach from Jan 28 to Feb 2. The resort is massive, and as a guest, you have access to 4 or 5 hotels within the complex, meaning you can use their restaurants, bars, buffets, pools, beaches, lobbies, entertainment venues, and more. The hotel lobbies, gardens, and pools are absolutely stunning, with plenty of lush greenery.
The beach is beautiful! Bring water shoes because the water is murky for the first 200 feet (about 60 meters), and there are many underwater rocks. Stingrays also swim in the shallow areas—I even accidentally stepped on one, so be careful!
The downsides of the hotel: Not enough lounge chairs – This is the most frustrating issue. There are simply not enough loungers for all guests. People wake up before dawn just to place their towels and \"reserve\" chairs. By 8 AM, every lounger by the beach and pool was already taken. The problem is that many guests don’t actually show up until midday, leaving others without a place to sit. Meanwhile, there is plenty of space on the beach and around the pool for at least twice as many loungers, but for some reason, the hotel doesn’t provide enough.
Limited à la carte restaurant reservations – For our 5-night stay, we were only allowed 2 reservations at the à la carte restaurants.The food in these restaurants was almost the same as in the buffet. As for drinks, don’t expect high-quality cocktails. The hotel is worth it for the price, offering good value for money.The staff was very kind.

Beautiful property. Beautiful room. Housekeeping and dining room service staff were superb. Unfortunately, other aspects of customer service were not up to par. First, we were moved from Barceló Maya Beach to Riviera without even being asked. Normally, I would not have minded as I prefer Adults Only resorts. However, I booked where I booked because I wanted to experience the vivid and bright colours, Mexican influenced architecture, and warm ambience of Beach. I had been looking forward to visiting Barcelo Maya for 16 years. Instead, I got the coldness of white and highly modern character of architecture I experience daily at home. Second, not only was my room not ready when I was told it would be ready, the staff kept pushing its availability back by 1 hr at a time. One of the staff, while dealing with this issue, packed up her things left for the day without passing things on to another person. I did not even know she had left until someone else approached me to ask if I had been helped. Overall, the trip ended up on a “meh” impression. It is definitely not high on my list of places to return to, now.

A group of 10 of us just returned from a stay at the Barcelo Maya Beach resort. We had an excellent time. We were always able to find beach chairs on the beach and adequate seating around the pools too. I loved walking the beach, from end to end. The Maya Palace would be a great option for families with children, as there were plenty of activities.

The one thing this resort lacks is communicating activities. There's a board indicating activities and times, but no indication of location (ie stretching class, etc). Theatre show times and shows were not published, or posted anywhere. A simple app should be developed to provide information of what's happening around the resort.

The adult side of the property was amazing and beautiful and well kept. Someone is always cleaning and very hospitable. The bed was the largest super king size bed I have ever seen - so comfortable. Food was good and it was nice being able to walk through the city of resorts attached.

Only wish was to be able to use the kayaks freely. The staff wouldn’t let us use them even when it was calm. Had hoped to do more water sports than were able.

This was my third trip to Mexico, but my first time traveling with family, and unfortunately, it was the worst experience I've had by far.

The problems began immediately upon arrival, when our shuttle transportation from MTS was over an hour and a half late, meaning we didn’t reach the hotel until three hours after we landed. When we finally arrived, we encountered more issues with our rooms. My room was ready around 3:00 pm, but my mother’s, who is 70 years old, was not ready until 4:30 pm. After multiple complaints, they switched her to a different room because her assigned one was still not available. Given her age and the long day of travel, she needed to rest and freshen up, but this extended wait made that impossible.

Throughout our stay, the issues continued. The pool area had no entertainment during the day, and the food quality was underwhelming. Room service was inconsistent, with towels sometimes forgotten, and the rooms only getting cleaned around 4:00 pm. We also had repeated maintenance issues in our bathroom, including poor water pressure and two separate calls for repair.

The hotel atmosphere was disappointing as well. There was no music or lively ambiance in the lobby or pool areas, and no drink service in the lobby while we waited. They also did not allow food from the buffet to be taken to the beach or pool, which was very inconvenient. The staff, unfortunately, came across as disinterested and unwelcoming, which made us feel like we weren’t valued guest

Been to this Barcelo 26 years ago it was the original resort there now there’s a total of six. We stayed one night was not good as we had stayed at the tropical in April. We asked to switch back over there and they did not have a problem with it so we spent our vacation at the tropical, which is significantly better than the beach property, even the food was over there .

Unsafe. We had three safety issues: 1). The warm morning food moves to lunch and lunch to dinner. Whole family had stomach issues until we learned to eat only what is freshly made. 2). Transportation from airport did show. Mexico is not a safe country to grab some random taxi. And 3). Booked a snorkeling trip leaving from the hotel and they went with bad weather (or lose your money). We got to the snorkeling location and immediately turned back due to heavy rains and lightning. Everyone was scared.

Lastly, practically no one speaks english to help or serve you.
