The only two things I liked in this hotel is the restaurant food and that the hotel was big so there’s a lot of walking places. The ocean is OK this time it was a little dirty, but overall it’s not bad, but I would give it a one star for the food other than the restaurants. The restaurant food was amazing 10 out of 10 the buffets were probably a two out of 10 and the drinks were one out of 10. Also, I will say that the staff at the bars and most staff in the buffets are really rude and unfriendly and this is my second time there and I can say nothing really changed. They are still pretty unfriendly and they don’t seem to like American people. We literally were ignored at the bar every time we would come up. They would serve everybody and act like they don’t see us till my husband said something to them and even then the guy just had a smirk and didn’t come up for a while. This is the only reason I would never go back there. I gave it a second chance, and still never again. The drinks were so bad that I couldn’t even drink the last few days because they were disgusting. Also, the shows were pretty lame more for kids, and they only started around. But there’s nobody at the shows because they’re very lame.

I really loved this resort. I would suggest staying in the palace to be able to go to all the others. The Mayan Mall was really fun for the whole family between bowling, arcade, ice skating, etc. The staff was extremely friendly, my kids and I all had a wonderful time.

Great property for families traveling with younger kids. The main pool is fantastic, and having the smaller water park area for young kids is great. For adults or those with older kids, you may want to look at another property on premise that is more geared for their age / closer to water sports.

Overall everything is awesome. All servers are great, occasionally come across couple buffet food stations where staff looks like they are not super happy to be there. The beach is nice and clean. They also do a good job cleaning and painting everywhere! However, last couple nights the AC was not working well in the room, and the fan was barely working slow... They staff said that the fan speed is fine although it was slower than other rooms by far.

This was our second stay at Barcelo Maya Palace. We love having so many options and being able to play at each of the resort's pools, water slide parks, and beaches. The resort's location is also so nice and close to the Xplor and Xel-ha parks. One disappointment this visit was we weren't able to get a reservation at the teppanyaki restaurant, even thought we inquired when we were checking in.

This resort was honestly one of my best experiences in Mexico so far. Loads of activities for the kids, food was a solid 8/10 most days and swimming with the turtles was amazing, staff was also very helpful. We travelled with a group and found it easy to get around. Definitely would recommend and plan to go back in the near future.

My only concern which is pretty minor was the smell of the pool bar bathrooms.

The pool is amazing! Top notch hotel. Enrique, buffet waiter, is the best. The only downfall to this hotel is reservations to restaurants. You can only make one reservation per day and most reservations are already full. We could only get reservations at restaurants at the end of our stay because every other day was full.

We had a great time and would definitely go again. The rooms were large and clean. House keeping came everyday and did a great job, our fridge was well stocked and we would leave and drink requests on a note with a tip for when they restocked daily. All the staff were very nice throughout the resort. The buffet's were good and had a wide variety, and the restaurants were all very good. The beach is Rocky but as long as you bring water shoes you'll be fine, it was worth it for the snorkeling.

We had such a great experience staying here. One of the best resorts we’ve stayed at (we’ve stayed at quite a lot). The food was great, the beach was beautiful and well kept, and every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The whole place had a really relaxing vibe and everything was very well organized. A restaurant that stuck out to us was the hibachi restaurant ! Such a cool experience with delicious food we highly recommend everyone try to have a dinner there.

There’s also a paint your own pottery (a little expensive) but well worth it! Such a fun activity to do and something to bring home that you made yourself!

“Strikers” is a 24 hour bar spot that has pool, bowling, arcade games and mini put. Some of it was pricey but again it’s worth the fun in our opinion

It was one of those trips where we have no complaints! Definitely a 5/5 stay and we’d absolutely return.

Room was basic. For a five star resort this place feels more like 3.5 stars. Most of the beach is concrete with sand on top to give the illusion of a large sandy beach. Beach/pool chairs and cabanas are poorly monitored and therefore monopolized for hours, despite vacant. Reservations system for dinner is archaic, also monopolized.Staff are ok- nothing more. Unavailable and passive aggressive. For this price you could for much better.

Was quite disappointed in this stay. This is my third time here at this Barcelo and did not receive the same treatment or accommodation as previously. We arrived to a broken TV, hot fridge, faulty balcony door and was shrugged off with no help or offer to fix it. We did not receive daily room cleanings or towel/refreshment replacements daily. We spoke with the front desk and got no where and were told to reach out to corporate to file a formal complaint. We are now looking to book our next trip for April 2026 and based on their customer service, we will likely be booking with a new resort unless they can offer a solution all these months later.

The food was bad, I’m not sure why people are rating so high for food, we were starving the whole week and tired to get into the very booked restaurants just to find out a lot of them have the same buffet food. Also room service was a joke as it was also the same buffet food just with a price tag. If you’re a foodie don’t stay here.

Wow—what a massive resort, yet they somehow keep the service feeling personal. We had an amazing time with our kids and parents (ages 11 to 80), and it truly worked for all of us. The food and service at the Palace were excellent, and the entertainment was top-notch. We all had a blast—the kids especially loved the jet skis, and the FlowRider was a huge hit!

Pools, property, beach and overall areas are beautiful and we never felt it was crowded. There’s so much space and areas to explore! Our stay was excellent.
Some suggestions: better reception and room service, I asked for help getting kitchen items to feed my baby, dish soap or warm water for bottles and they just said they couldn’t. The kids pool area would be perfect if heated, it took my kids a lot of time adjusting to the temperature. Last, our purpose of selecting an All Inclusive resort was to avoid extra planning related to meals and activities, but we found ourselves confused about our dining options and activities, it is hard to even have a map of the property or a suggested plan to explore it, it felt like they just wanted us to stay put by the beach, pool and buffet. Exploring didn’t feel encouraged but rather an endeavour.

This is a beautiful resort, one of the largest that I’ve stayed at, with many amenities. I was there for a wedding & stayed for 1 week.
The variety of pools was great! The pools are large in size - everything from lap pool to kids pool. This is a child friendly resort.
The property is in excellent condition. It is a very large resort with 4 resorts in 1 & an extremely long, fine sand beach. You can snorkel right off the beach. There are 2 double decker open air buses that provide transportation to the 4 resorts.
The pickleball courts were wonderful but the pickleball paddles were terrible & they only provided 1 ball.
I wish that the staff spoke more English.
The spa was wonderful & the seaweed detox & deep tissue massage was a treat. I used the 40% discount that was offered for making an appointment in the 1st 48 hours.
The mini golf course is 18 holes & pretty challenging but the clubs provided were not putters, they were irons.
There are lots of deck chairs available but people get up very early to put a towel on a chair. It was difficult to find a chair some days. Could there be a better way?
We were there with a large group & it would have been nice to be able to reserve an area on the beach where we could all sit. The beach does have a lot of palm trees for shade.
I have a number of food allergies & the staff at the restaurants were always concerned & very accommodating. The red wine is awful.
I would expect my concerns addressed before I would return.

Facility and beach are gorgeous. It’s also an incredibly clean resort. Tons of fun activities and the drinks and food are good. Only issues are that getting reservations for the restaurants is a complete nightmare and try to get as much information on any excursions. We did Isla Mujeres and it’s a bus that picks you up and takes you. It’s about 2-3 hours there and back and makes stops at other resorts along the way.

I was promised I would get a room upgrde but that did not happen even though they had availability. They asked Expedia to contact the property. I reached out to Expedia and the supervisor told me that they have reached out but the reservation office confirmed there was no contact. This was trip #4 for us, and as we’ve found in the past, it was another wonderful stay at the Barceló resort. This was our first stay in the Palace section, and we are still having discussions about which section we like the best. (we’ve stayed Beach, Caribe and Colonial on prior trips)
The Palace was lovely, but we all really enjoyed the central location on the resort of the Caribe & the Colonial sections & our kids loved the large balcony of our room at the Caribe, they voted Caribe as their favourite section. The extra dinner locations, the Palace pool, & additional theatre to chose your evening entertainment from, were all added advantages for the Palace, but in the end I think we agreed that unless we were getting the Palace as the best price, we would choose Caribe as our favourite section.

We always stay premium and enjoy the premium room locations, the staff in the premium lounges, & never have issues with dinner reservations.

The pool at the Palace was an amazing draw for our family & it did not disappoint! It was a fun space.
We rode the red double decker buses more on this trip then any other. The Palace is further away from things (& we had grandparents with us). The bus is fun so we didn’t mind.

Ember Shores was at the resort during our trip. It made us thankful that we were at the Palace and far away from the thumping (of the music). We would not have been happy at the Caribe while this event was happening.

The staff for most part were great! The resort is beautiful! However it’s too bad they can’t take something like a recent hip replacement my husband had, our room was very far away….we were travelling with 2 other reservations. We booked very far in advance, requesting rooms closer to our daughter and family, this was before we even knew about surgery. We were in different building at end so it was a hardship 😔

The worst two things about this hotel are:

1. The room is extremely humid, making everything, including your blankets and mattress, wet and soggy. Even your clothes never dry after getting wet. I was relieved to only book four nights because I couldn’t stand staying in that room. To make matters worse, the room doesn’t have any ventilation. After showering, my phone, which didn’t touch water, couldn’t charge because of the water inside.

2. The service clerks’ English is so bad that it’s difficult to communicate with them. I asked where I could book a shuttle, and she said downstairs. That’s it! She didn’t give me any directions, tell me which floor it was, or explain why the front desk couldn’t help us book the shuttle. We figured out that it was because my hotel was booked through Expedia, so they don’t serve us. We went to downstairs and try to find the agent twice but never seen him onsite. Turns out I have to book online myself. Airport transportation or any other transportations to theme parks has to be self managed.

The bracelet for the room key is so weak that it breaks in a few days, and you’ll likely lose it and have to pay for penalties. The swimming pool area and Beach also have no life jackets. You either bring your own or buy one on-site.

Don’t come with big expectations and you will love it
Beds are terrible , very springy and soft
Be prepared to walk lots it’s huge resort but walkable and also there is a shuttle which goes in between different hotels
Stupid expensive at the mall , medium bag of chips is 14 US dollars
Overall great for the price

It was our 4th stay at this hotel, and we absolutely love it. Great pools for kids of all ages, adults, many restaurants to choose from, and a ton of activities to choose from throughout the day. There is a wonderful path along the ocean. Also, absolutely love the gym and spa facilities. Highly recommended. We will definitely come back again.
