The entire experience at the resort was absolutely incredible. The property itself is breathtakingly beautiful, meticulously maintained, and truly feels like paradise from the moment you arrive.

One of the highlights of our stay was the snorkeling. It was exceptional—we were able to see sea turtles, tropical fish, and so much beautiful marine life right off the beach, which made the experience unforgettable.

What truly makes this resort stand out, though, is the staff. Every single team member went above and beyond to make our stay special. From housekeeping and turndown service to the concierge team and Preferred Club servers, everyone was warm, attentive, professional, and genuinely caring. You can truly feel how much pride they take in creating an amazing guest experience.

The entertainment, atmosphere, service, and natural beauty of the resort all came together to create one of the most memorable vacations we’ve ever had, and we cannot wait to return.

The entire staff at the resort are amazing. Our concierge Gina was very helpful with recommendations for tours off the property, and things to do on the property. Carlos and Dieder from the entertainment team were full of energy and so genuine in their desire to make sure we were engaged and having fun. We enjoyed volleyball, live music, bike ride into Akumal and other shows put on by the entertainment team. There was always something to do if you wanted to be interactive. Jose was our pool concierge and always made sure we had clean towels and sun or shade when we wanted it. The beach was well maintained and clean. We were a little disappointed with the dinners- the dining experience and staff were great but the food wasn't super flavorful. On the other hand, we enjoyed our breakfast and lunches tremendously. The property is very well maintained and clean. They are making more efforts to be environmentally friendly, which we appreciate.

Secrets was great. Service over the top. Good food, clean facilities. DO NOT BOOK TRANSPORTATION recommended by hotel. Amstar left us waiting 1.5 hrs at airport. If you look at Amstar reviews they're terrible. An employee told me, you can't expect us to be perfect.

What we liked:
*The pool and beach areas had great, attentive service.
*Each day, there is a different grill option on the beach which is some of the best food we had the resort.
*The bike tour was surprisingly good. It's a 90 minute tour on flat ground with a few different stops in the surrounding area.
*The kayak tour and paddle board tours were okay. If you like water sports, this is likely not the resort for you. There are restrictions on when you can use those amenities & booking is competitive.

What we disliked:
*The check-in process was frustrating. We arrived 30 minutes before 3:00 pm. Waiting would have been no problem, but we were bombarded by staff trying to sell us invitations to timeshare events, spa services, etc. Not one staff member asked, \"What would you like to do this week?\" If they had, we likely would have gotten answers to questions we had later on.
*We were locked out of our room twice during the stay. The first time was a night because the room door did not want to communicate with the app they provide for access. It took several technicians and security to resolve the issue. The second time was at check out. Check out is at 12:00 pm, but they don't tell you that your app will deactivate at 11:30 am. We planned to stop in our room once more right before check out to freshen up and could not get into our room. We had to find someone to let us in and almost missed our airport pickup.
*Food ranged from okay to very good. Nothing was amazing.

The resort was great, room was fantastic. Caution about the $200 resort credit.The Expedia listing is deceiving. There are limitations such as $10 off a full price wine bottle, $40 off regular priced spa service. Great buffet at the Market Cafe. Nice sit down places near the pool with ocean views (Seaside Grill and Oceana). Fine dining choices in the evening include Himitsu (Japanese), Bordeaux (French)(long wait at times), Portofino (Italian) and El Patio (Mexican). All of the restaurants were fantastic & no resy needed. (Hibachi at Himitsu needs a resy due to limited seating). There are plenty of events during the day that are free. We decided to just hang out at the pool most of the time. The concierges are at every building, and communicate through WhatsApp if you need anything. The staff does go out of their way to make sure that you are taken care of. The reason I did not rate it 5 is because I did not sleep well at night due 2 the bed & pillows. It was just not comfortable for me. I still prefer the beds and pillows at a JW Marriott. The resort grounds are immaculate! Pools are sparkling clean. Beaches are pristine, smooth white sand that feels like flour on your feet. They have exercise classes, free paddle boarding & kayaking outings and bike ride through the local town. If U take the Wyndham \"timeshare\" pres, it's about 2hours for $200 credit towards your hotel bill. The survey lady was rude. Just keep saying No until they give you all the bells/whistles.

Property is excellent. Snorkeling directly from the beach in both paid access (turtle viewing) and free areas. Service was fantastic at all times. Food was very good overall, with Italian and the Steakhouse as standout options. Jungle areas in center of the resort make navigation around the resort a memorable experience, easy to get lost and explore new places! It’s sort of a running joke amongst guests that everyone seems to be lost while navigating the resort.

Main lobby bar is the only letdown at this property. Seating at the bar top was limited to four stools, however several other seating options were available in the area. Due to bar being open to outside and lack of fans or A/C in the bar it was very hot most nights. Bar staff had resorted to using floor drying fans to cool themselves and one of the fans being used was extremely noisy taking away from the high end feel of the rest of this resort. We instead chose to spend or evenings at the outdoor sports bar were ceiling fans and a cross breeze kept everyone cool while enjoying their after hours cocktails.

Special call out to Brandom from the entertainment group and Alan from the bar team both were fantastic and made the trip memorable

Some of the cons are not a fault of theirs:

Mosquitos were very bad- I mean the worst i’ve ever experienced. They were trying to mitigate them, and had bug spray at the restaurants, but we still bought and went through a whole bottle.
Because of the mosquitos it was hard to enjoy the swim up room. Only used it once since the mosquitos were biting my face, scalp, etc.

Air conditioning did not work well at night in our first room, we thought it could be from the brief power outages, but it got to 75 degrees at times yet stayed cold during the day. A day or so after mentioning it to the concerige they moved us and we did not have the problem in the new room.

Food was great and fresh everywhere we went. If I was scoring food and friendliness of staff alone it would be 5 stars. I have food allergies and Santiago at the buffet went above and beyond to get me a pastry I had been wanting. They called us by name and always checked on us. The buffet food was the best I have had, and the restaurants were top notch.

Upselling was draining. People were telling us they tried to sell them on packages, which is understandable. But it was a 1-3 hour sales pitch for a discounted spa massage. I also felt swarmed as we left when a sales woman tried to convince us to book our next stay. I’ve stayed at other resorts where they were not as bothersome about it.

Parking worked out. We had a rental car but the trees dripped sap or something. So it was dirty.

The property is very lush and well maintained. Room was spotless, fridge stocked with your preference. Nightly turn down service with fresh towels. Lots of umbrellas available for when it rained. Building concierge was great, always checking on you. Lots of entertainment during the day and evenings.
Great selection of restaurants and all were excellent. The main buffet was open for breakfast and lunch and the selection was overwhelming.
Waiters and staff are very attentive and always checking that you are satisfied and have what you need. They go above and beyond. Every area was serviced well. Always wanting to know how they could help you.
We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay.

However, the staff at the pool needs to be more clear into how many people are allowed to rent the day beds beforehand. There is evidently a difference in how they treat certain guests, versus others. There is no distinction between the regular guests and the preferred ones.

My wife and I visited Secret Akumal Resort for the first time, and we are incredibly happy that we chose this beautiful place for our vacation.

We were absolutely delighted with everything! The service was exceptional – the staff was incredibly attentive, friendly, and always went the extra mile to make our stay memorable.

In particular, we would like to highlight our waiter, Isus. His service was impeccable; he is a very knowledgeable professional, attentive to detail, and genuinely caring. His kindness and attention greatly contributed to making our dinners special and most enjoyable.

The beach was simply paradise: pristine, with soft white sand and unbelievably clear turquoise water. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind.

The food exceeded all our expectations. The variety and quality at all the restaurants were outstanding, and every meal was a delightful experience.

All in all, our vacation was a tremendous success, and we created wonderful memories that we will cherish for a long time. We truly fell in love with Secret Akumal and sincerely hope to return one day.

The property is gorgeous, and all the staff were super friendly, attentive, helpful, and incredibly hard-working, and they made our stay all the more enjoyable. The in-room dining service, and the variety of restaurants around the property was good. I would have to say that the Mexican food was the best compared to the other food offerings in the property. We also love the pizza! The pizza station with the forno oven close to the pool, and the Preferred Members Beach area was excellent. We took advantage of the unlimited food, and drinks, and overall we had a great time. The beach area has a lot of seaweed that the property cleans up on a daily basis. We spent a little bit of time swimming in the ocean, but I got some sort of allergic reaction to the seaweed on my leg, and I decided not to swim in the ocean after that. Other than that the property, the views, the staff, the food and drinks were all excellent!

I’m sitting here at my desk on a Tuesday morning drinking my burnt coffee dreaming of Secrets. I miss it so much already and it’s only been 3 days since we left. Secrets is outstanding. If you are looking for a luxury all inclusive this is the place. For example my fiancé was in the pool and one of the kind gentleman waiters asked if he could clean his sunglasses for him. That moment stood out as a true sign of how much they go over and above to make you feel welcome and comfortable and like you are truly on vacation barely having to lift a finger. The resort is big and easy to get lost but when you do get lost there is beauty and nature around every corner. We snorkeled with the turtles and swam in the ocean where they worked tirelessly to get rid of the seaweed. The food is top notch , the breakfast buffet is what dreams are made of. I could go on and on. Just book the trip I promise you won’t regret it. Special shout out to our concierge Fernando for taking such good care of us

Service was exceptional. Beach was clean and plenty of cabanas. Plenty of food options if you eat meat, not so much for dinner if you’re vegetarian. Staff looks after all your needs. A great phone app lets you request things from room service, to housekeeping, to turn down service. Very impressed.

Personally this was our first time staying at an All Inclusive resort and we couldn’t be more happier with our stay. Everything was wonderful! The dining options, the staff, the endless amounts of activities as well as entertainment options made our stay that much more memorable. With only a few minutes walk to a private beach and ability to swim in the ocean all day long, as well as numerous pools in the resort and the option to reserve a room with its only private pool, Secrets Akumal has indeed set a high bar when it comes to All Inclusive resorts and we will definitely be going back. We had an amazing time and enjoyed all of the services. Highly recommend this resort for anyone looking to enjoy a week of vacation without the stress of having to arrange all the things that comes with planning for a vacation. Great service and a beautiful location!

Now this is the type of resort that means what they say: ALL INCLUSIVE. When I say that everything was amazing, it was--from concierge service (Francisco & Gerardo specifically) to room service (Lorenzo)to the dining options and customer service (Francisco that worked at Seaside Grill & Himitsu) to the entertainment provided by Lina. I HIGHLY recommend that when choosing your suite--get the swim out, you will NOT regret it!

Opulent rooms and grounds that instill a sense of exclusive luxury and provide a tropical swim into the life of the pampered. Let me give you some context. I and my lovely girlfriend of over 1 year arrived in July 2025 for a 5 day romantic getaway from NYC. In my opinion, this resort truly deserves its AAA rating, and I am comparing it to food, services, and spa’s in NYC. The population was mostly middle age, mostly couples, some groups of friends, no pretentious folks, a little party atmosphere some nights, mostly mature and refined folks with the random intoxicated partner on the premises.

My desire to write a review is because of the impeccable attention to details and highly trained service staff that caters to you like you are ultra wealthy and famous. Delicious gourmet quality food served in a mixture of fine dining restaurants (table cloths and all), open air bars, elegant buffets too, and you can opt for the Preferred Club lounge, which will serve you exclusive self-service gourmet appetizers and top-shelf drinks.

Let me try to give you some concrete and tangible details for you to interpret.

The green coconut water they give you has the Secrets logo char branded into the coconut, and it’s been chilled in a cooler before they hand it to you off a serving tray.

The bath towel you received after your Spa treatment with body exfoliation is in a private village designed for couples, with top-to-bottom glass walls in the shower room, and it will be warm.
