This was the best I’ve ever stayed at. Pre check in was not good. However it was the week they changed over to Hyatt. So I was unable to book any dinners anywhere. Super disappointed. But the buffet. Omg. The BEST buffet ever! The staff was amazing in the dining area, there were endless choices of food. So I’m not bummed we didn’t book restaurants because the buffet was on point every single night. There was a theme every night. The swim up pool was amazing. We had the whole place to ourselves it seemed. The beach is just ok. The bar there sucked l, only because 1 bartender. The beach, it was where everyone seemed to smoke. Gross. It smelled. But The staff again was great on the beach. The staff was a well oiled machine. Hard workers and everyone seemed to love their job and it was so so inviting!!!! The grounds were immaculate, the activities were fun. You don’t get board. The rooms were clean but they do have a musty smell. The bathrooms are on smaller side but provide all toiletries you need. The swim up was perfect. Great to read a book and chill. This place was so much fun. The sports bar was super cool. The bartenders there were great. We had such a great time. I’m telling everyone!

The staff Israel and Fernando we exemplary as front desk and very knowledgeable of the resort and their staff ! Our 30th anniversary was spectacular because of them upgrading us when room was available the last 3 days with a private pool, wine and chocolate covered strawberries was the best touch and the banner! We enjoyed the resort , beach, staff , activities, the weather was perfect low humidity which was a plus to our vacation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The hotel grounds are quite rundown and many areas are in need of repair:
Steps falling apart
Concrete on bridges overate pool falling off
Roofs with blue tarps
Our hotel
Our room only has a couple available electrical outlets
Our room was poorly lit - terrible lighting
Our buffet ran out of food daily - breakfast and lunch
Just to name a few things

When we went it was still called luxury . It was absolutely not luxury. We were put in a block of villas that were not renovated so they were actually kind of gross and dated. The beds were rock hard , the fridge worked and didnt work, despite asking them to take a look at it. We were near a very sewage smelling area which was not super nice to walk through. I didnt mind the buffet but the al a cartes were garbage . In fact, when we went to the tappenyaki, the hood straight up fell onto the grill right in front of us. Thankfully there was no hot oil on the grill to.splash & burn us . The grounds were pretty, but tarped roofs didnt scream luxury to me . Also, the pools really are cold & maybe if we had not come during that out of.normal cold spell , it would have been refreshing but the weather was abnormally cold.. we had an okay time but really would not book this resort again.

Even though I am an Expedia Platnum member, the hotel did not provide an upgrade for our room,
In fact, the Hotel put us all the way at the back on The furtherst building from everything, and in front of an area with lots of buildings being renovated under construction,
There was construction demolition noise and construction trucks all day long form 8am to 6 pm
To make things worse, they closed a lot of restaurants and facilities during the day and all we had of the main buffet to eat breakfast and dinner, which were a mile from our building,
The food in the buffets is ordinary, nothing special even for Dinner
Talking about dinner, we did the check-in 10 days before arriving on the App, but it would not allows us to hook the restaurants as they showed all full 10 days before we arrived,
We could do some reservations for the not so good specialty restaurants but the best ones showed all full,
But when we walked in front of these restaurants at dinner time, They were all half capacity, with lots os tables empty and they did not accept walk ins
Not even the concierge could help us with anything,
And the hotel was 50% full, at best,
The beaches were full of sea grass and we could not even enter into the ocean
The staff is drastically reduced and the service suffers
I have been to Cancun over 30 times,
I go twice a year, but I will not be coming back to this place and cannot recommend the Grand Bahia principe to no one,

The property overall is well maintained and the room they gave us was very nice. We had a great view of the ocean. Two things you must know about staying here. 1. Food is very frustrating and not very good. I have never stayed at an all inclusive where it was impossible to make reservations for the restaurants. I was told at the front desk that I should have made reservations at least a week before we arrived. The buffet food was alright but all the other non reservation resaurants teh food was not good. 2. Download inDrive before you come to the hotel. It will cost you a minimum of $80 to get off the property if you take a cab. That's not what upsets me it's that when you took a cab back to the hotel it was half the cost. Taxi and hotel have some deal going on where they charge more leaving from the hotel.

Overall if you just go for weather and hanging out at the pool this place is fine. Just doesn't compare to other all inclusive places I have stayed.

My only frustration was that the app can be improved with more information about where activities are taking place and brief descriptions of them. Also, the à la carte reservation process was frustrating. We shouldn't have to scramble every night furiously checking the app if a reservation happens to open up.

The first room was not that great my husband was getting bits on his legs in was sleeping in the sheets where everyone else was sleeping on top of the sheets with a blanket and we had no bits on our legs. We asked to be moved to another room what’s the hotel did allow us to move after three days and it cost us another $600 Canadian. It wasn’t an upgraded room which we appreciated and after that my husband didn’t have any more bites or getting any new bites on his legs.
The staff was very friendly all the time. Outdoor pools were pretty good. The bars were good very staff. Breakfast was good. Lots of different options. Good entertainment during the day and throughout the night, the kids had fun.

We travel to Mexico about once a year and have stayed in several different locations and properties.

Staff here were some of the friendliest we’ve met anywhere.

Check in and Check out were both quick and easy.

We had a swim up room which was fabulous. Our building didn’t back onto a path so it was fairly private. Would have been a nice touch if wait staff came around to those rooms to take drink orders. Beds were hard for our taste but we asked for mattress toppers which were provided quickly and made a huge difference.

Food at the buffet was good. Not great. But nobody would go hungry. Lots to choose from. I forgot about making reservations at the restaurants until a couple days before our trip and unfortunately they were booked up by then. Room service menu is simple but quick, and free. A nice option if you’re not up to going out for dinner.

Resort is huge so it never felt crowded even when it was busy. We did have trouble a finding pool chair on the weekend but no issues during the week. There is a trolley system to move people around the resort and to the other properties. But lots of pathways so it was easily walkable too.

Advertised as a 5 star resort. It might have been at one point but I think it’s closer to a 4.

Staff were very friendly and helpful!! We had a complimentary room upgrade which was so appreciated. There were a lot of food options, and everything was tasty!! Our airport shuttle was cancelled last-minute due to lack of drivers (the company was Shuttle Central), and we needed a shuttle at 5AM for our return flight. I called the front desk staff around 11:30PM, and they were incredibly helpful in coordinating a shuttle for that next morning! Loved our stay, and we will definitely be back!!

I have been to all-inclusives all over Mexico and this was by far the worst!!!!

Don't get me wrong, it looks pretty. The grounds are pretty, lobby is pretty, but that's about it.

The app that they make you DL before you arrive doesn't even work... It says you can start making reservations up to 10 days before your stay. If you're lucky enough to get the app to work, then you MIGHT get some restaurant reservations. However, we found out that the people who have a elite membership (or whatever they call it... it's a yearly thing they buy into) get first dibs on all reservations. So average guests are out of luck.

We were with a group of 7 of us... trying to get group reservations, impossible. We even went to a restaurant on site to see what they could do and they tried to sell us a $400 wine package just to get a table!!!!!

The bugs were out of control. I was eaten alive, even with bug spray on. As were my friends. Even a week after getting home I was in so much pain from the bites.

The people working there are grumpy and want nothing to do with helping guests. They look actually annoyed when you ask for assistance.

People from all around the resort were complaining about the app and the bugs. Not just our group.

Nightlife sucks. The bars close early, you have to take a shuttle to the \"Hacienda\" if you want to dance or drink.

Beach... meh... Getting chairs, almost impossible.

Food... average.

The spa was amazing... only good thing about the whole stay.

The resort itself was really nice and the beach was pretty clean considering the seaweed issue they were having. The food was good and the buffets had good options of different foods, they could work on adding more fruit and dessert options though. Issues I had were the room we booked was not a renovated room even though the pictures on the booking showed that so we had to change rooms once we got there. We also requested an ocean view room and didn't get any view at all. Making reservations for dinner was almost impossible. Many places were saying they were fully booked when half of the restaurant was empty. Also they were not open every day so that made reservations harder. They also make you reserve by person and not room so a table that can sit two people sometimes would only let you reserve for one. Who wants to eat alone on vacation? The hospitality of the employees was poor. Many gave attitudes from simple requests like changing a table or exchanging beach towels or ordering food in the restaurants. In the buffets there were dishes that would stand empty and they wouldn't replace them or refill them until you requested it. Was somewhat disappointed with this booking since when I searched reviews for it many people said it was a great place but that is not what I experienced.

We’ve stayed at many all-inclusives in the area including the Wyndham Azteca and Westin Cozumel and this resort is better in most ways. The food is extremely high quality, the staff are wonderful, and the grounds are beautiful. We had some problems with the first room we were given but a man named Daniel found us an updated room that was perfect. The gym is the best hotel gym I’ve ever seen, and I travel a lot.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade at check-in. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

The water park was great and our kids absolutely loved it. The food was also very good with plenty of options for everyone.

This was our 3rd year in a row staying here. Many changes have occurred since new ownership took over. None are for the better. Food is not as good as in the past . Upper shelf drinks in the bars are no longer available. Couldn’t even get a kahlua drink! They said they were out of stock. Weeds in the water are getting worse. No alcohol in room refrigerator either……just beer. Other than the front desk lying to me several times during check-in, I eventually got my way for room choice. All of the other staff members and employees were wonderful. Many of them were really concerned about losing their jobs under the new ownership. This is still a beautiful place but not the same luxury as in the past.

While you can easily visit nearby resorts, keep in mind that some are understaffed and can feel a bit chaotic. The dining situation is hit-or-miss; many of the advertised dinner spots are underwhelming, and the premium restaurants are often restricted to \"gold\" members, making it nearly impossible to snag a reservation despite what you're told.
The beach is quite rocky, but it features a lovely natural pool with crystal-clear water that's perfect for swimming with fish. As for the rooms, the \"old area\" is definitely showing its age. Don't expect a deep clean there—the furniture is dated, and our experience was marred by mold in the shower and a bathtub with disgusting residue in the jets. So its up to you to judge Akumal now!!! Despite some drawbacks, the location is great. If you are flying into Tulum Airport, be sure to book your shuttle directly through the hotel, as Expedia doesn't include transportation and you'll have to pay extra. While we didn't visit the city itself to see the local life, the ruins are absolutely incredible and a must-see. I would definitely consider returning one day!

Good resort, good location, very friendly staff, and while plentiful and always available through different options some of the food was lacking. (Like the pasta sauces were all heavily watered down)

The only real problems we had were with the day passes around the resort. They pulled a bait and switch on the pricing as well as a lot of difficulty being able to use the resort transportation without a lot of headaches.

However, it's very quiet - no night life for the younger generation.
Coba is the place for families as it offers a nice water park for the kiddies and seems the busiest for families. We always stay in adult only sections.
The food and staff are amazing, especially the ala carte restaurants.

Great experience! Staff were awesome. Very friendly. Food and service as well. The room that we stayed in was not renovated, was alright mostly just for sleeping however it really needs upgrade. If it wasn’t for the family staying next to us, I would have moved. Unpacking my things at the moment and could smell mold on my things. Would still come back in the future but woukd choose different type of room. I would give it a five star if it wasn’t for the moldy room smell. Overall had a great time.

We really enjoyed the pickleball courts and would love to see additional courts dedicated to the sport. We also enjoyed the yoga, aqua-fit sessions, bike tours, pool games and entertainment. Memo and Ramon were great as were all of the other instructors who took over when Memo went on vacation. And the bike tour guides provided very good information about the resort.

This was our fourth or fifth stay at this resort. Since our previous visit was over ten years ago, we expected some post-Covid decline in service and quality, as has been common across many mid-range resorts. We were pleasantly surprised that Bahia Principe in Riviera Maya has largely avoided this. The food remains plentiful and just as good as it was 15 years ago, and the staff is as friendly as ever.

Beyond the human factor, the location is excellent, with easy access to nearby ruins in Tulum and worthwhile trips to Cobá and Chichén Itzá.

Three people in particular made our stay even better. Nathaneal upgraded us to a lovely renovated room. Rosaura and Leidy stood out among an already strong buffet restaurant team for their attentiveness — from remembering our usual order to noticing when my wife missed dinner one evening and asking after her when I arrived alone (she was unwell). These gestures are small, but kind, and they add a welcome human touch to an otherwise fleeting guest–staff relationship.

We stayed at Bahía Príncipe Luxury Akumal for three nights and four days, and everything was perfect. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade, which made our stay even more special. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the entire resort was very clean and well maintained.

The buffet options were fantastic with plenty of variety, and we also appreciated the availability of room service. While the room service food menu is limited, we actually loved being able to enjoy our meals in the privacy and peace of our room.

Another great perk was having access to other resorts on the property, which gave us even more dining and activity options. Overall, it was an excellent experience and we would absolutely return.

The quest services person in our building knew my name, just by face, and used it often. Because the resort is in a larger compound, we were able to go to the different resorts plus go to the hacienda without leaving the compound. I would a million times recommend this place.

es un hotel 3 estrellas. bebidas muy malas y escasas. habitaciones basicas. estuve 9 noches y pude reservar solo para un restaurante. pero extrañamente siempre estaban a mitad de capacidad. al unico que fui la comida era mala y si queres un buen plato hay que pagarlo (una estafa) termine comiendo la mitad de los dias fuera del hotel. la playa es mala. termine llendo a tulum todos los dias.

It’s important to book your restaurants in advance . Restaurants are usually booked up before you get here. Guest services was helpful in finding us options during our stay. We loved the pools and location. Food was excellent at the Akumal buffet. Our family really enjoyed it. Music performances through the week were great. Thank you for an excellent experience. We will be back.

The staff is extremely friendly, the food is excellent and the rooms are clean. Many pools and entertainment. The only problem: is hard to get restaurant reservations. We stayed 7 nights and only got one reservation in a Spanish restaurant (the vegan steak was delicious). Vegan options are available in the buffet as well. Overall, the experience was great, I would definitely like to go back again.

I spent my time in the beautiful Caribbean Sea at the adult only area. There were plenty of lounge chairs and close enough to the poolside bar. In conversation with another fellow traveler, he mentioned the buffet at Siam Kaan, which was just amazing. The area is also adult only, the buffet is smaller, but the selection was superb.

We went here for our honeymoon for 5 nights and overall had a good time, but it is certainly not \"5-star\" or \"luxury\" by any means.

Pros:
- Beautiful grounds
- Lots of places to explore, especially with the shuttle service to the other Bahia hotels
- Great area to swim in the ocean, which is unique to the Akumal location
- Great drinks
- AC works well in the unit and the beds are comfortable

Cons:
- The staff are really not helpful at all for a supposed 5-star luxury hotel, they are nice at a surface-level but become standoffish as soon as you have any small need or problem and do nothing to help you whatsoever
- The food at the buffet is just acceptable, it was the same every day with no variation
- The a la carte restaurants are impossible to book unless you do so weeks in advance and the food is very hit or miss
- Even as one of the luxury locations, you cannot get top shelf alcohol
- The entertainment was overall subpar, we enjoyed the magic show but otherwise there were no other decent shows and no outdoor events like dancing or foam parties
- The pools are beautiful but are not heated even when the weather is cooler outside

The room accommodations were fine but the drinks were terrible. Like 1/10. We check in online 10 days before & couldn’t get a dinner reservation through the app. We reached out to the hotel & they said that they can schedule it for us then later said they could not. I asked for birthday banners for myself & my friends who travel with us in a different room but those request weren’t honored. Will not be returning. There is nothing luxury about it except the price.

Room was fine, staff were very nice and helpful. Over half of my party got food poisoning here and were violently sick for a day. They couldn’t fully enjoy the buffet and some had to cancel their restaurant reservations because of it. Signing up for restaurant bookings was more difficult than needed, and most of the times you could just ask for a table anyway without reservation. App was not user friendly. Sometimes the restaurant staff would ask if we had the menu without allowing us to scan a QR code and would rush us to make a decision. Wish the app could show the menu as well as the reservation at the same time or the restaurant provide a paper menu. The map on the app for the resort was also very confusing and finicky. It sometimes didn’t show properly where the location was and just zoomed out to the whole resort. Food was okay, saltier than expected for many dishes. Was expecting restaurant quality to be higher since it was so hard to get a reservation but it wasn’t. A lot of their pudding desserts had no flavour. Entertainment at night was nice. Hours of operation for snack bar was not correct. The room was too cold with fan/AC at night so I grabbed a blanket from the closet but it had bugs living in it. The app allowed you to do many things like order room service or browse activities, but it doesn’t say if the activity is kids only or adults only. The beach was very nice, could see fish just by standing in the water.
