We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The food was really great, and everything was amazing. The only small issue I had was a bit of a musty smell in the room, but they resolved it really quickly by providing a dehumidifier.

Our stay was excellent. Highly recommend for people with young kids. The food was better than we expected and there was always an open food option. Our only issue was a small one; they wouldn’t let you help your kids at the waterpark up the stairs or to get on the slides. The lifeguards didn’t seem to care to enforce any other rules, but would blow their whistles and yell the second an adult stepped on, which 99% of the time was to help a crying/scared child.

Dijeron que mi reserva era solo para 2 adultos y yo reserva para 2 adultos 2 niños, tuve que pagar nuevamente por los 2 niños, al hacer check in no tenían la capacidad operativa para recepcionar a toda la gente que llegó por dias inhabiles, asi que nos metieron en un teatro solo con ventanas abiertas a más de 100 personas por alrededor de 2 horas sin aire acondicionado, con tan pocos ventiladores que ni aire daban porque ya necesitan cambiarlos, su sistema no funcionó ya que no aparecían registrados los 2 menores y me negaron en varias ocasiones el servicio de toallas por esa razón, tuve que asistir en varias ocasiones a lobby para pedir apoyo por esta razón, se vende como un hotel todo incluido, y se excusan diciendo al huésped que en su página dice que todos aquellos servicios no especificados como incluidos, tendrán un costo extra, como un área de niños, mesas de billar, espectáculos de noche, etc.
En la habitación hacia falta limpieza, mucho polvo en muebles y baño, la cama tenía una como colchoneta encima del colchón que hacía muy incómodo dormir, no tenia cortina blackout solo una traslúcida a la que le hacía falta limpieza, cero actitud de servicio de los operadores de carritos al traslado, solo se pueden reservar cenas en restaurantes de especialidad a partir de la 3era noche, el snack y kukulkan se queda muy cortos en su capacidad de abastos para atención al huésped, casi todo el tiempo había estaciones sin alimentos, piso con comida y/o baños sucios, etcétera.

The property was decent but you cannot book more than 1 restaurant for dinner in a 3 night window and most of them are already fully booked. The hotel should reach out in advance on mention that in the posting.
One of the staff members was also rude, Luis at the Indian restaurant.

Resort is a lot of fun and coba is solid even though you don’t have access to the rest of the property without spending more on a bracelet. Room was solid but they didn’t have a king bed so they offered to push our two small beds together (which didn’t happen so we did it ourselves). The mini fridge in the room also wasn’t working so coming back to the room was underwhelming from not having cold drinks in our area.

The staff was great and everyone was extremely kind to us and helpful so there are no complaints there.

The buffet was good and the drinks were great with a solid selection for both which was nice.

Coba is a great place to stay. Beds are firm but bed toppers are available.Rooms are dated but didn't bother us as they are clean and comfy. We had upgraded bracelets so we could visit other areas. I'd recommend this as Coba buffet for lunch and dinner is good but repetitive. All staff were amazingly helpful. We had bed toppers and help with AC within an hour of request. Pools and beach areas are beautiful.

3/5 stars. It was fine, nothing to scream about. Definitely needs upgrades. Water park needs a fresh coat of paint, sucks the beach wasn't on the actual COBA property but a short trolley ride away. The staff were very good to us as we had two young kids. I would likely comeback but stay at the AKUMAL resort instead it was beautiful and beach front.

Late checkout was accommodated at no charge which was fantastic, but no chance for el la carte dinners as they were all booked up solid before we even arrived. So buffet 3x a day for 7 days was a bit much.

The Bahia Principe Grand Coba Resort (BPGCR) is the ideal destination for both families with children and couples; by all standards, its performance receives the highest rating 5.
Everything stated below pertains to Expedia, the company with which we booked our vacation at BPGCR.
An Expedia representative scheduled our departure to the airport for 4:20 AM the following day—informing us of this by phone at 4:00 PM—and allotted three hours for the trip, instead of the 1.5 hours stipulated in our contract. From the driver who arrived to transport us to the airport, we learned that BPGCR was the fourth stop on his route! This three-hour ordeal—bouncing along rough roads through the dark jungle can only be described as torture!
While the OTA (Online Travel Agency) Expedia is ultimately responsible for the performance of its transport providers, its system prompts users to review the BPGCR itself. Consequently, travelers who experience issues with the transport company end up directing their dissatisfaction toward the BPGCR website rather than Expedia's!
Based on our experience booking through Expedia.com, my rating for Expedia—across all parameters including organization, oversight, and accountability—is the absolute lowest: 2. I would not recommend entrusting your vacation plans to Expedia.com to anyone.

This was a great vacation for my family (two teen boys), everyone had a great time. Because we booked through Expedia, we had access to two other resorts, and tried all the buffets and the other pools. The beach is accessible through the other two resorts (Tulum and Akamai), and the beach was okay (it’s kind of rocky) so bring water shoes if you are beach people.

Staff was friendly and very helpful, and tried to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Pool policies that we personally loved: You cannot place towels in the morning on chairs by the pool and leave them there, which for that policy alone, I would book again. It’s so frustrating to see towels on chairs all day when people aren’t in them and other people could be enjoying spaces by the pool. This was a great policy and I hope more places adopt it.

My biggest suggestion was maybe more pool party music, there was a foam party one day and had some great music, so more fun music at the pool, but pretty minor in the scheme of things.

Overall, this was a great hotel and we would go back again.

We stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Coba and honestly had mixed feelings about the experience.

Starting with the positives — the rooms were cleaned very well. Everything was always neat and tidy, no complaints there. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which definitely made the stay more pleasant. A special highlight is the kids club — it’s truly the best part of the resort. The activities were engaging, and it made a big difference when traveling with children.

However, there were also some significant downsides. The biggest issue was the constant feeling of restrictions. The bracelet system makes you feel like you’re in a lower-tier category, with limited access to certain areas. This really affects the overall experience.

The food was another disappointment. It wasn’t bad, but very repetitive. After a few days, it gets quite boring, and there’s nothing that really stands out.

The resort is large, which is nice in theory, but in practice it can feel inconvenient, with many things located far from each other.

Overall, it’s an okay option for a basic family vacation, but if you’re looking for more freedom, better food variety, and a more elevated experience, you may want to consider other resorts.

Buffet was very good and well stocked if you went earlier.
Wait staff was so kind and helpful.
Swim up bar should have two bar tenders - we felt so bad for the bars with one person working.
Dinner reservations were difficult to get but the concierge was helpful and we did manage to get two nights out.
We appreciated the shuttle to the beach and hacienda areas.
Bike tour was so good - through that we found out where the snorkel gear and kayaks were but we should have done this the first day.

I want to start by saying that this review has nothing to do with the staff, every single person we encountered was amazing, kind, and attentive. A special thank you to the team at the Katok restaurant in the Akumal resort, especially Oliva, Obdulia, Francisca, the chef who came out to greet us, and the captain waiter. Their service truly stood out and made us feel very welcome.

Unfortunately, my experience was deeply affected by the food. During my stay, I got food poisoning twice, and the last time was extremely severe. I experienced fever, vomiting, chills, and diarrhea. I am still recovering from it.

It was honestly very difficult to travel back home in that condition. I had a fever while flying and could not keep any food down due to how upset my stomach was.

This was very disappointing, especially because everything else, particularly the staff, was so wonderful. I hope the resort takes this feedback seriously and reviews their food safety standards so that future guests do not go through the same experience.

Hi, I enjoyed my stay. The resort and grounds are nice. The buffet food is meh but was able to find enough. The al a carte restaurants were better but tough to get reservations. They were all full even though they are only actually ~30% full when we got there. The beach is rocky unless you go down to Tulum resort. I am suffering from a lot of bites on my legs I assume were sand fleas from the beach. The entertainment was good on a couple nights, not so much on others. Nightlife is done a 11:30. No place to congregate or get drinks after that. Pay for the upgrade to use the other resorts as well or may get bored. Couple better restaurants at the other resorts. It was generally a good vacation but could use some improvements.

There were no shops nearby. Few internal shops were really pricey. probably thats the way it is. Not a lot of stuff to do if you dont want to be in the swimming pool or beach. I first have to say the staff and front desk were great, delivered on what they said they would do. Rare at a big resort.

The food here is terrible! I mean below average. All the meats are way overcooked, the same buffet items day after day, just regurgitated and once the food is fine it’s just mixed into another dish. Standard for all inclusive I know but I basically stopped eating after day 4 reserving myself to and fresh fruit or available vegetables. The sodium content is mind boggling and just not necessary!! We had 1 good meal at al la cart and that was the filet at Le Gourmet, it was very good. I know it’s hard to feed that many people but I have been to a few all inclusive and food wise this was the worst. Cobá buffets is the worst of all, akumel is a little better, tequila buffet was horrible and telum was bad too. (Sorry to be so negative)

The transportation shuttles à la Mexican style were a bit challenging too. Sometimes waiting up to 40 min to get from one resort to the other.

Staff is awesome, they made us change rooms and all was taken care of, we had to get a bed for one of the kids it was there within 40 min. All that was great.

No real beach to say, not like other resorts, very rockey and sparse.

I was there 7 days and they only allow you 2 reservations. But they are so booked, we will only be able to get one restaurant booked for the whole week. Overall, I was disappointed with the poor communication. Emails were not answered, requests were not acknowledged, and staff did not seem willing to accommodate or fully understand our needs. As we were staying for a wedding and the other party was at the same hotel, this made the experience more complicated than it should have been. Unfortunately, it was not an easy or smooth stay.

Let me first start by saying the staff at the resort was wonderful. Everybody was friendly and helpful. They get five stars!!!
The resort itself was always clean and beautiful. The rooms are outdated but still are clean. They need to figure out why they are so humid however. Each room would benefit by having a dehumidifier in it. I found this very hard to sleep every evening with so much humidity in my room when the outside air wasn’t that humid. The bed was also as hard as a rock, I’m used to sleeping on a memory foam mattress, so this was a big challenge for me to try to find a comfortable position with it being so hard I might as well been sleeping on the floor.
There really is not a swim able beach at the Coba property, if you want a nicer beach, you should stay at the Tulum property or Akumal. The Akumal property had a smaller portion of swimable beach, but it was very crowded.
The food at the buffet was very subpar. Same things every day and low quality. The quality of food at Akumal was better. The à la carte restaurants are also better than the buffets.
The entertainment was also five star. Especially the urban show and The Rock show. The lead singer to the rock show she is amazing.
The bottom line for the price this is a great vacation. The resort did a wonderful job with customer service and making you feel very welcome. I just wish the food was a little bit better quality.

We stayed at this hotel 3 times for the last 3 years and looks like it was last time.
Main problem is a variety of food in a buffet. We never saw before that Coba has so big issue with a variety of food, people staying in a line to get some food, if tray is empty it will not be replaced or refilled right away. Very very limited quantities of sea food even baked or grilled fish you will not be able to see it everyday.

The worst thing you guys could do was open that useless Tequilas section
All you did was strip us of everything that made Coba worth coming to.
It’s nowhere near the beach so things like the silent pool and the food truck made the Coba ok still, especially for the price.

First of all, the Staff were all outstanding.

As for the room, our key card did not work on the first room; after calling and waiting twice outside after a long flight they had to change batteries to let us in. The room was quite warm and AC wasn't working, also the toilet periodically ran through the night making a loud whistling sound waking us up, and the bed was extremely hard so very little sleep. Not a good start. After a request to move, we were sent to another room that did not have issues, had a bed topper and a larger TV. (This was what they call a Premiere room at Coba). All the room layouts are exactly the same at Coba and showing quite a bit of disrepair but overall OK. the new room was satisfactory, and I would say about a 3 star room IMO.

We have stayed at Bahia Principe several times over the years. We noticed some changes this time around: more restrictions on where we weren't able to enjoy different areas of the resort that didn't used to exist, as well as the Coba section of the property beginning to feel its age, where the other sections have seen renewal. Some of the little extras we experienced in the past have fallen off, but overall, it still felt like a great experience for the fact that the staff are so warm, hardworking, attentive and really do give you the sense of being waited on hand and foot.

Our rooms were decent, furnished as they were in years past, and comfortable, with daily housekeeping service that kept everything spotless and well stocked. I let the maintenance staff know our mini-fridge wasn't working, and it was replaced with a new unit.

The food was as good as we've seen in the past. While I'm sure some of the larger resorts in Mexico have increasingly moved toward using pre-packaged food, most of what is served at Bahia Principe is clearly freshly prepared on-site, the buffets are abundant with lots of choice, and we usually focus heavily on the Mexican section of the buffet for some authentic local flavour. The bar service was always great, with lots of options and well-prepared cocktails.

The grounds and pools are well-maintained, clean, and comfortable. The beach was beautiful and clean.

Make sure you bring lots of small bills to tip all the wonderful staff!

Clean room and friendly staff. Drinks are horribly watered down and sweet. You have ask for a shot of a specific liquor to add to your drink separately or they will grab this premix behind the bar that’s sweetened. The food is mediocre but not horrible. The location is quite far from both Tulum the city and Playa Del Carmen. Ubers, Taxis, and shuttles are unavailable unless pre booking and spending absurd amounts on travel. The beach is very small and not very nice. Pools are not heated and hot tubs do not exist.

Amazing stay overall! Great customer service, top notch entertainment, especially the New Year’s Eve party!! The food options were great with a large selection and the specialty restaurants were way better than we expected! Pools, beach and chairs weren’t overcrowded at all. Outdoor setting and grounds were beautiful, clean, well maintained and ambient walking trails with tram options if you don’t want to walk.

We stayed in Coba and the only reasons for the four stars would be the rooms are dated, the bathroom doesn’t have an exhaust fan which causes moisture and a tad mildew smell in the room. We asked for a king bed and got two full beds pushed together. Also blankets are extremely thin. Our underage kids (17 and 14) were not given underage wristbands and were being served drinks unbeknownst to us. Other than that, this stay was amazing and we had a great time!!

The room was spotless, I would leave a note and a tip and the lovely person would go over and above to meet my needs. I loved how kind the staff was, the food was excellent! My teenage daughter and I did this trip to see what it was like and we are going to bring back my sons and husband for Spring break. We are going to stay in the Luxury part for the private pool area. The beach was one of the most beautiful I have seen. A Caribbean bath as we referred to it.

Clean rooms and great service. Everyone is polite and ready to be at service from the front desk to the concierge. Loved the villa with the balcony, the pool and the beach. Great place for families and kids. Actually, the distance from Bahía Príncipe to the bench is walkable but the shuttles were on time and it was fun riding them. There are drinks everywhere and the food in the buffet was delicious. Beautiful sunsets, shows, music, and space to sit and enjoy the nice weather. Highly recommended.

On the positive side, the hotel has a beautiful and spacious territory, plenty of activities, great animation, and very good food at the buffet. The staff truly deserves special mention — they were friendly, attentive, and clearly doing their best to help guests and create a pleasant atmosphere.

However, there were several significant issues that affected our stay. The navigation around the resort is very poor. Upon arrival, we were not given any maps, schedules, programs, or basic information about how the hotel works — no guidance on activities, restaurants, or transportation. Everything had to be figured out on our own.

The room was another major concern. There was a strong smell of mold, and it felt like the room had not been renovated in decades. Some wall lights were partially detached with nearly exposed wiring. The air conditioner was very old and difficult to operate, and most of the power outlets in the room did not work. Electrical issues were noticeable throughout the property as well — many lights around the resort were not functioning, and the hotel experienced several power outages, which was surprising for such a large complex.

We also had issues with the à la carte restaurants. Out of three promised options, we were only able to book two. We missed one reservation because we were not informed that transportation was required to get there, nor were we told about the shuttle schedule.
