If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The hotel looks absolutely nothing like the photos online, it’s misleading and downright dishonest advertising. The room was filthy, outdated, and crawling with ants. They were everywhere in the shower, in the sink, on the bed, even in the curtains. It was disgusting and completely unacceptable.

When I brought this to the attention of management, they offered to clean the room… ants returned the next day. Management claimed “its because of the beach”. Tried to bribe us with a bottle of champagne….

This place is a nightmare. Save yourself the money and stress.

Staff is all very kind and helpful. Rooms are updated and tidy, however there were ants that kept appearing near the sink. Bed was not very comfortable. Pool is very clean and lots of options for drinks and food by beach area. Parking is very minimal and you likely will have to park on the street.

Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Air conditioner didn’t work. Fridge didn’t work. Door was broken so we couldn’t get into our room on the last night. Staff didn’t care. They weren’t even remotely sympathetic. We’re not accommodating at all. I can’t believe I spent money to stay here.

room booked but view was totally blocked by trees and was not mentioned on your website. Sent email to hotel weeks before we traveled asking about view but no response, would have changed hotel if we had known.
Bed was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever slept in, we didn’t get any sleep at all.

Try it. it’s worth it!

We stayed for 10 days in this slightly tired looking hotel so had reservations about the stay but we couldn’t have been better looked after. The staff are so warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and to be honest the manageress Esperanza was so wonderful and really couldn’t do enough it’s no wonder the staff are so happy to work there. She was permanently on show and it was lovely to watch her taking the time to talk to all visitors with her lovely warm welcoming nature, it is easy to see she is definitely in the right career!
The location, having its own beach on the doorstep is another major bonus . The towel changes, as often as you like is a definite a win in my book. Pool service from the waiters whether ordered or the little treat tasters of cocktails, kept us looked after and were always tidied up quickly and efficiently.
We ate in the Masai restaurant and the food was 1st class. Nothing could be faulted. It was so good we went back for lunch on our final day because we wanted to end on a high note.
The Al Cala may be next door to a 5 star hotel but the longer the stay, the more you learn to appreciate what it is about this hotel that’s sets it apart from the others. You leave feeling very rested and relaxed, planning your next visit, hopefully not too far away in the future. Try it it’s worth it!

Do not stay here if you’re looking for class, luxury or decent facilities. There are stains on everything and bathrooms are tiny and not meant to accommodate two adults. The photos are misleading and the property is not actually representative of what you see in the photos. All of the “amenities”are very old and worn down. When we tried to cancel the remainder of our stay because we were unhappy with the resort but they refused and kept the full amount. We still decided to go stay somewhere else. Buyers beware. I suggest you stay anywhere else but here.

The hotel doesn’t merit a 4 star rating. The bathroom of the room we were first meant to stay in smelled badly. The hotel itself is in need of an update. The lawn chairs by the pool are not in great shape.
The main redeeming quality of this hotel is it’s beachfront location and the beach is lovely. The staff at reception were not overly welcoming. I definitely would not consider this a “4 star boutique hotel”.

The hotel is nice as is most of the staff. However, the head receptionist who claims to be a “manager” is rude and lacks social skills. He was not only rude to us but also to fellow employees. Lucrecia is amazing and she treats people very well, We cut our stay short because we did not want to spend more money on a business that allows toxic employees to go unchecked.

Hotel staff were wonderful and the hotel’s proximity to the beach was perfect. That’s where the positive comments end. The hotel appears to be from the 1960’s-70’s era. The building and common area finishes appear to be original and very worn out. Our room’s air conditioning wasn’t working. They fixed it when asked to. We returned later to find a 1 meter diameter puddle of water on the floor and water dripping from the light fixture at the entry door. After 20:30, they offered us the keys to another room. No assistance moving our bags was offered. The next morning we were asked to move to a 3rd room. Again, no assistance was offered.

The hotel location is great for the pool and beach however not a lot in Cala Major itself. Hotel was gorgeous and modern in some areas and not so much in other areas. The rooms were lovely but pretty small not sure what we got extra for a superior sea view if I'm honest. Also needed a full length mirror.

The hotel states on Expedia that parking is available which is simply not true. The hotel only has three parking spaces which were all taken when we arrived. The nearest car park was 2.4 miles away so we ended up driving our hire car back to the airport and using taxis to get around.

On a brighter note, the actual hotel was lovely and the staff were very helpful.

Just don’t think about staying here if you have a car.

- really close to the beach, first line
- close to the airport (by taxi) & Palma (taxi or direct local bus)

Contras:
- the beach in front of the hotel is relatively small and is surrounded by several other hotels, so it was packed, especially during the weekend, no free umbrellas

- breakfast quality is mediocre

- a lot of breakfast/dinner staff doesn’t speak English (maybe this hotel is for local tourists?)

- “Junior Suite” room isn’t too special, just a somewhat larger room with a king bed, and the sea view was partially blocked by a tree

- technically the room had an air conditioner, but it didn’t help the first couple of nights, it was still too hot in the room (outside was ~25C during the night, which is maybe higher than usual, but still something the A/C should be able to manage)

I love this place the deco and staff make our stayed enjoyable. I wish I could have stay a day longer. The hotel is conveniently located close to the beach 🏖 and have good swimming pool to cold down. The waves are a wee strong and it was great fun for adults and kids.
There is a bus stop close by to go to other places and Palma is 10-15 away. A restaurant that you cannot miss is La Parada del Mar

Staff was excellent (front desk, bartenders...). My room did have ants in the wardrobe one night and I did see them elsewhere on the property at times. The WiFi kept cutting out even when I was in the hotel, the Bluetooth in the room wouldn’t connect to my phone, the tv at times didn’t have a signal (although once I brought that to their attention they were quick to address the problem), and the complimentary iPhone in the room wasn’t terribly helpful. I did not bring the 3/4 tech issues to their attention because I was on holiday and the real show was the beach and pool. You are able to use the facilities at the 2 sister properties which are literally next door; however, this hotel has the best beach view and quietest pool. They could increase revenue by walking the poolside and taking drink orders but you can walk to the bar and get it yourself. The breakfast was great and the rooms (sans ants) were lovely. The gym at the neighboring property needs an upgrade and the fitness classes they advertised were canceled 3 days in a row. Overall, I did have a very relaxing experience.

A perfect beach location for a city break

A perfect choice of hotel for a few days away - on the beach and so no problems with not being able to get a sunbed around the pool as if busy then just opt for the beach instead. A very easy 20 minute bus ride into Palma with buses running frequently from near the hotel and very cheap. The rooms were spotless and everything thought of. Breakfast incredibly generous and excellent quality. Staff also very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful break.

Brilliant hotel overlooking beach front. Rooms are elegant and very comfortable although not very big. Breakfast is fantastic and staff are excellent. 30 mins walking distance to the cathedral (very scenic past the port). Buses run constantly and €1.50 takes you to city centre. Hotel has a very beautiful outdoor area and only downside is cleanliness of that area right now. (Birds have left their mark over winter months) Would stay in this hotel again.

Great hotel, with friendly service. It is located near several nice restaurants and with easy access to Palma, which is worth a visit.

Make sure to get the sea view. The pool area was quiet and relaxing.

The only small issues that we had was that on one day we had a difficult time finding good sunbeds, as guests from the sister hotels were using the pool. As well, the gym needs some new equipment as the current machines are getting a bit \"squeaky\" and tired.

Beautiful sea view from 3rd floor

Only problems we had were very small and mainly due maid service not replacing used toiletries and bath mat and water each day. Immediately rectified by reception. Fantastic buffet breakfast (could do with instructions on the coffee machine!) complimentary mini bar - what a refreshing change. Really enjoyable stay. Book it!

Went to this hotel when first married in 1968 & 69, went back this time to celebrate our Golden Wedding. New owners now, but a lot of the hotel still as we remember it. On the plus side, Great location, virtually on the beach, pleasant staff and bar areas, good breakfast choices, great views, wonderfully comfortable beds and good quality bedding, Negatives would be, takes forever to check in, tiny slow lift, rooms a bit small, and hardly any storage space for clothes, no cupboards or clothes drawers, and just one wardrobe of half hanging, nowhere for shoes or the cases. Although the rooms were a bit chaotic, it did'nt stop us having a very enjoyable holiday

A great small boutique hotel with a great vibe

We loved everything about this hotel. It is positioned almost directly on the beach with access gained through a private gate. With only 50 rooms, the hotel is very intimate with friendly staff and a very relaxed feel. The breakfast is fantastic and can be enjoyed on the shaded outside terrace with a view of the sea. The sea views from the rooms are very special waking up to the sound of waves coming in. We will be back next year.

My room smelled like sewage and there was nothing they could do to fix it. The food was ok. The beds were comfortable. The sea view Was beautiful. But that smell. It made it hard to sleep. I tried to stay away from it as much as possible which was a shame as I’d booked the holiday as a restful retreat.

Beachfront hotel with nice breakfast buffet

Single room was larger than expected. Disappointed to be greeted by multiple tiny flies in the room. I have stayed in a few beachfront hotels in the past and rooms were clear of flies/ bugs so being near the beach is no excuse. Told the front desk staff who promised to tell the cleaner to spray the room. The next day it was not so I had to tell the cleaning lady myself. Although there were less flying around after the spray, there was still some that remained. I stayed 2 nights so had 2 breakfasts: 1st morning was great, had all the choices anyone would want for a breakfast. However, 2nd morning was disappointing. At 8am, there was barely anything next to the eggs. I understand that they were closing for the season later that day but still, there are customers to be taken care of. The location is good as the beach is right in front and just 1 minute from the high street with restaurants. I'm not sure how the rooms are at the next door Be Live Marivent (sister hotel) but there seems to be more amenities there and it is open all year round.

Had a wonderful long weekend at this hotel. Pool area great. Loved the fact the hotel is on the beach. Clean pool towels every day. Comfy sun loungers by the pool and no problems getting one (we stayed in October). Breakfast was good, as was lunch at the hotel. Service however was very slow at the bar and the restaurant. Could have done with double or triple the staff. Had hoped the locality around the hotel would be nicer, but we just took a taxi into Palma every evening for dinner which wasn't expensive to do.

The hotel is in a fabulous location and has a very relaxing atmosphere. Food and beverages were generally disappointing and overpriced so we ate out most of the time. Breakfast however was excellent and was one of the highlights of our stay along with being located next to a gorgeous beach. The staff were not very helpful or friendly and customer service was disappointing. It was also difficult to find a free subbed on the pool terrace, as many guests reserved their sun beds with a towel early morning but then didn't use them until later in the day. The hotel staff need to manage this better!

I was given a room upgrade to my surprise and the room was great. It was clean and modern with a large balcony overlooking the restaurant and sea. The restaurant had an excellent breakfast buffet with great variety of food.
There is a private beach near the hotel, beach chair with umbrella will cost you 10.70 euros. I like the Masai restaurant and lounge. Delicious food, good service. Fancy and cozy place in Moroccan style.
This hotel is 15 min from the city center and a taxi will cost you 10 euros.
I would like to stay there again. Thank you!

I had a lovely time at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and I had the most delicious octopus dish from the main restaurant one lunch time. The room was fairly large, clean and had a balcony, but it had a pretty crappy view. I liked that there were complimentary beers and coffee in the room, as well as some sparkling wine to greet us.

Had a lovely time here although it was not as 'boutique' as I was expecting, it was still a good place to stay and catered for our needs well.
The breakfast was great but the quality of the food for lunch and dinner was not as good - food came out extremely quickly so no real time to breath in between courses.
Staff are brilliantly helpful and friendly.

Lovely hotel in a good location. The pool isn't huge, but it's a small hotel, in the height of summer it may be hard to get a sunbed.
The bathroom in the bedroom is hidden from the main part of the room but only has a frosted glass door/wall. It wasn't ideal for friends sharing, but due to the layout it was workable.

The balance is positive and we would stay there again, specially because the pool is so nice and the location is so good.
High points are: excellent location by Cala Major beach with direct access, clean room, good shower, very good breakfast, very nice pool, good pool-side restaurant, nice balconies with beach view, adults only.
Low points: small bathroom (open-plan), not enough pool loungers for hotel's own guests because guests from next door hotel (same chain) are allowed to come over (all pool loungers taken by 10am), very small lift, front desk very reluctant to offer late checkout and when it does it charges extra.

Great resort!!

The resort was one of the best on Calla Major and it was right on the beach overlooking the sea. Great location and a short taxi ride to town. Everyone at the resort were very helpful. The only downsides were the wifi was a little patchy and the bathrooms have an open concept, however it's minimal for the location and resort.

We should of paid extra for a sea view room with a balcony. There was an option on Expedia to request a 'queen' bed which we thought was a large double but all the beds were twins - two singles pushed together. The only double bed available was in a single occupancy room, which we didn't want. La Cala boutique has two sister hotels, on either side, you have breakfast in the hotel you sleep in but can have your evening meal at either of the other two hotels or eat at the Masai Restaurant in the La Cala which we heard was expensive but fabulous food. The breakfast was first class , everything you could want, well presented & fresh. All staff were friendly & approachable . Monica on reception was especially helpful & very professional. The shower/toilet area in our room 2103 was not a great design as water from the shower poured onto the toilet floor, we had to roll up a towel to prevent a flood each time we used it & the frosted glass door to the toilet/shower wasn't private enough it had a large gap surrounding it which meant every sound could be heard.Tv & audio system great & the coffee machine good but noisy. We We used our own tea bags & coffee satchets & used these with the hot water from the machine. Free 2lts of bottled water was left in the room daily & bottle of cava on the first night, mini bar was free on the first night,ask to get it restocked. Get a password at reception for the free wifi & a key for safe (€10 deposit + daily charge.

Good hotel at a good price

Great hotel with a secluded location. If you want a lot of things to do within walking distance this is not the place to stay. Quiet beach front property with a great restaurant attached. I would stay here again if I go back.

Cheeky break away in Palma

Excellent service provided by all staff.
The welcome drink of champagne and bottle of fizz in the room was a lovely touch.
The food and choice at breakfast was outstanding.
The hotel was clean and our housekeeper was exceptional.
The hotel was right on the beach which was clean and tranquil.
I would not hesitate recommend this hotel or stay here again.

Nice hotel staff are excellent. Tha area has improved a little since the last time I was there. The hotel shares restaurant facilities with two other hotels in the adjacent area. The standard of food is good and plenty of choice. Nearby bus stop to Palms city approx 100metres.

Fantastic hotel, clean rooms & sea views

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights. I would highly recommend the hotel for proximity to beach, private pool area, friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable room, good buffet breakfast, and generally a great location for escaping the pressures of the world.

First line to the sea and it's nice

There were pros and cons in this stay. Firstly, it was really nice and pleasant that hotel is located in the first line to the sea. Rooms are in the nice condition. But room wasn't cleaned properly after previous visitors.

Hotel reception was very helpful. The breakfast menu was varied and good quality. The rooms were clean and tidy. The hotel is about 200m from the bus stop to Palma city. The resort itself is fairly quiet with not much to see,

Fabulous. Stayed here for a long weekend .

Upgraded room on arrival , no hassle and had a sea view . Simply stunning. Room spotless and bed linen and, pillows excellent quality. Had half board included and the food was good with a decent choice and a chef available to cook fresh choices. Breakfast was amazing and being able to sit overlooking the beach was beautiful. Staff were friendly and efficient . One of the best things for me was how quiet the hotel was at night. Slept so well .

Not suitable for peaceful break

Whilst the hotel staff were lovely, the hotel itself is not suitable for a quiet and relaxing break as it is more akin to staying in the middle of a nightclub. The rooms have no sound proofing and the noise goes on all day and all night with no reprieve - it was like trying to rest at the end of a day on the nightclub floor.
