Room was clean! Gym had weights, a strength machine, two treadmills, one elliptical, and one stationary bike which were in good condition. The pool was warm and clean. It was better than the photos! Staff was super kind from the very accommodating breakfast folks, wifi maintenance, and front desk folks!

This facility is either understaffed or they don’t take pride in their property.

- HVAC was not working in the common areas and not working properly in the rooms.

- There was a bag of spilled food in our hallway for over 24 hours. Then after the bag was picked up, the actual food was still there for another day.

- We had water stains on a comforter, dishes weren’t clean, and the bathroom cabinet was crooked.

- I also had an issue with our bill after we checked out. Hotels.com advertises this property with “free self parking” but when I got the bill they charged us for $5.00/day for parking. Which I find funny because it’s not a high traffic location. Just seems like a small way to nickel and dime you. To their credit, they adjusted the bill after I called to raise my concern.

However, we had positive interactions with the staff during our stay. The issues with this property seem to be management/ownership driven.

Our interactions with staff were great! The cleanliness of the room was not great. Things had not been wiped or dusted, there was dried cheese on the curtain, the table had a pink film on it, and the bathroom had rust on parts of the plumbing.

When these things are present, it makes me feel like corners are cut and other areas are also not being cleaned between guest properly.

Me and my family came here to rest for the night after traveling all day on our way home. Initial walk-in very nice, however upon entering our room it smelled of smoke but we figured someone did that before however as we were waking up the smell became so bad. I am now sick from the smoke filled air that came through the vent above the bed as well as the vent directly shooting in my face in the shower. My husband couldn’t take a full shower due to the same issue. We called the front desk twice but was told there was nothing they could do since maintenance smelled nothing in the hallway. Asked for them to enter the room—no response. So as we checked out I asked the front desk to come with me to see the smell and upon opening the door the lady couldn’t even walk in it was so thick. I am now sick from the hours of smoke inhalation.

Decent, but my list of cons has some oddities

Good enough for a five night stay. Here are quick pros/cons that come to mind:

PROS
beds were fine, shower was fine, hotel itself was quiet, staff was very polite and kind, location, pool.

CONS
breakfast during the week was not good (they bring bacon and microwave sugary waffles on the weekend only), the stove in the room is awful...took 30 minutes to boil water (and by boil, i mean a couple of little bubbles. i could've boiled the water faster with a Bic lighter), there were toenail clippings on the floor upon arrival and the beds weren't made, waking up to construction workers at 8am or earlier sucks (they're building a big apartment unit just outside the room I was in...fyi, nail guns blasting in rapid succession sounded like a bunch of paintball shooters attacking each other in my room)), AC stopped working on the last night of my stay so we slept in our sweat...I was sweating profusely the next morning while packing up and bringing everything to the car. August in VA without climate control is no joke. Fortunately I mostly dried off a few hours in to my nine hour car ride home.

Despite this, would I go back if I absolutely had to...sure, I guess.

This Residence Inn has the nicest staff and a really big wonderful continental breakfast.
Check in & check out was a breeze and staff was super willing to help
The price is right in the budget and I went through Expedia.
Traveling from NC to Newport News, VA has been the best during this Thanksgiving Holiday 2023.
Choosing this fantastic hotel made the trip even more worth the while to visit relatives on a shoestring budget.

We were first given a room with a broken air conditioning unit. I called and they came to the conclusion that we needed another room. I was then given another room which wasn't the same room that I had, which then lead us to being moved again. The inconvenience was was very upsetting. This is the best hotel & has all of what I needed to make my stay so pleasant. The breakfast staff was the best & had the best Covid safe way of making sure we had a wonderful breakfast to eat sense the buffet style is No More due to Covid. We were treated So Nice & they were happy to serve us more if we were still hungry. The hotel is so clean & I love the indoor pool that stayed open really long, free parking, the price of the room was fair & the Manager on site is Not paid enough who goes above & beyond the call of duty. Thank you for wearing mask & staying safe. The hotel is across the street from the Mall & a ton of eating places to choose from. The 3 night stay was 5 STAR while visiting our in-laws in Newport News, VA

I stayed at the Marriott residence inn Newport News, August 28 2021.First inspection of the room was okay, I stayed in a two bedroom suite. As I checked the bedrooms I saw what appeared to be blood on a white comforter.Went down to the front desk because they were very short handed. The front desk clerk gave me a pair of gloves along with plastic bags to remove the bedding. She also gave me all of the clean bedding to remake the bed myself.Needless to say I did so from the carrying the bedding and changing the bed. I was staying in the area for a big event. After changing my own bedding and disposing of the blood soiled comforter, my hair was a complete mess.So I ended up attending my event looking like a hot mess!!! I asked to speak to the manager but I was told they don’t work on the Weekends ! I Omitted there was a little blood also on the tub, which was an additional treat to see upon returning from the event.

I specifically searched for a 2 bedroom suite so that I could have my handicapped mother nearby. These are hard to come by and I was thrilled to finally find one after a lot of searching. When checking in we were told there was an “issue” with the room and they gave us 2 kings instead. The rooms were also at the very far end of the hallway which made the trip to the room very difficult and slow as we navigated using a walker. Needless to say I was not thrilled with this arrangement but we made do. Thankfully nothing happened during the 1 night stay. The breakfast sandwiches were also terrible. The biscuits were petrified as was the cheese. There were also no handicap parking spots when we arrived.

UNFORTUNATELY BECAUSE OF RECENT RESTRICTIONS, OUR STAY WAS NOT THE SAME AS IN THE PASS. WE NEEDED TO WAIT A FULL DAY FOR ADDITIONAL CLEAN TOWELS AND NEEDED TO ASK TWICE. WHEN I FINALLY MET UP WITH OUR CLEAING SERVICE, SHE WAS MORE THAN ACCOMMODATING.

1st time at this location. We usually stay at the hotel next to this one but thought the suite was the way to go because we brought our dog along.
Check in was easy and the room was really nice. Things changed the first night as the next door neighbors decided to stay up late and make tons of noise. After midnight they probably passed out. The next night was even worse, apparently the rowdy neighbors decided to invite some obnoxiously friends over for a 2:00am (yes that’s correct) basketball game right outside of our window. Acting as if it was mid afternoon, they were screaming and cursing. To beat all, one of the noises neighbors was yelling at and really screaming in the hallway. When I called the hotel front desk to report the issue, I believe they sent someone out to break up the game but the cursing went on for a while. Needless to say, this may not be the typical situation at this hotel but please keep in mind, if you want privacy and quietness, do not get a room near the basketball court.
Beyond that major issue, the hotel and staff we attentive to the cleaning and upkeep seems to be on par for the cost.

The bathtub did not have a mat in it; consequently, it was slippery when someone tried to shower. Had to ask the staff to bring a bathtub mat to the room. A little mildew/mold around the caulking of the bathtub. This is a simple fix that should be done. Also, the bathroom looked like it had been superficially cleaned - a staffing quality issue. I have stayed here several times and had excellent experiences. This was the first time that my stay has been average overall. Hope these matters get addressed.

We had a two bedroom suite which was perfect for our family. We were happy with the breakfast options and every employee we interacted with was a very good experience. Professional, pleasant and accommodating all around.

The room could have been cleaner. The walls had stains in several places and the dishwasher was full of murky water so we did not use it. Other than that our stay was very good and we plan to return.

Our room was awesome. It had everything we could possibly need. I wish we could have stayed longer. The Lady at the front desk was very nice and helpful. I had booked through Travelocity and did not see the fine print about there being an additional $100, non-refundable, fee for a dog. We didn't check in until midnight and were leaving at the 11am check out time, so she did not charge me the fee. I only had one small Chihuahua who barely leaves my arms, but thought that was very nice and professional of her to do for me. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to everyone!

This hotel was perfect for my family of four. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I especially loved the extra space. I didn’t feel that we were on top of each other. Worst Residence Inn from my Experience

I am so shocked by the good reviews of this hotel. There are several to pick from within a .5 mile radius and we picked this one because it had the best reviews. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. We love Residence Inn typically wherever we go because of the spacious rooms with kitchens, great staff and good breakfast. While the room was clean and spacious that is all I can say that was a good about our stay. The room was not ready when we arrived at 6:20; which is 3 hours after the normal check-in time and we were not the only ones. There was a large party and the people were hanging out outside the front of the hotel and in the hallways making lots of noise until 3:00 am. I have a one year old daughter and the sound woke her at 2:40. The breakfast was the worst I have seen at any Residence Inn. It appeared that they just threw what they had on the counter so we went to Cracker Barrel instead. I was very disappointed with our stay and the lack of the staffs efforts to make it enjoyable.

It was a very clean room. We had plenty of space. We had some noise from the furnace, which was very abrupt. The bed was super soft and so were the pillows. The water pressure in the shower was minimal and inconsistent. Our room was on the fifth floor. Showering on Wednesday morning (8am) wasn’t bad. We had enough hat water and water pressure adequate. Showering Thursday morning (7am) was very disappointing. The water pressure in the shower was a dribble and the water was lukewarm at best. We used the laundry facility, which was clean and handy.

There was bed bugs in my room and management did absolutely nothing to accommodate me but inconveniently move my room as if it was any better she was rude and came off as a racist no surprise here in this country state of mind they are everywhere smh! She even told me pest control said that there was residue of bugs present yet there was nothing done about it she didn’t want to give me a copy of anything stating that, let alone I have all the proof that there was BED BUGS in my room from that hotel videos pictures bite marks & all. She wanted to simply shut me up and lie about having a infestation of bed bugs I know what they look like and if you see one that is enough for a red flag... the nerve of these people... management sucks and need to be Re-evaluated

Have stayed here several times while visiting family in the area as the design of the room and extra space is very comfortable for us. They offer a very good breakfast and a nice Lounge area downstairs that affords comfort and privacy for family to hang out. Location is Central 2 minutes away from Jefferson Boulevard as well as the airport and Highway 64 and the mall is right across the street with lots of restaurants, some of the nicer areas of Newport News for sure

I rented this room for my daughter who was picking up my grandson from boot camp. They arrived late for check in due to trouble on the road. Close to midnight.
I searched your site for a pet friendly hotel. No where on the booking did it have to click on a pet. After they arrived the clerk was waiting at the door and gave my daughter attitude for trying to \"sneak in a pet\", she also told my daughter she could kick her out and charged my card a non refundable 100.00 pet fee. I went back on the website and nowhere did I see anything about a non refundable fee. I am not too happy about this!
