We stayed for one night and found it strange that we had to go and find someone to check us in as reception was locked and no one answered the bell. Same problem when checking out - staff downstairs in the dining room. Lovely hotel in a great position but why on earth did our room have no heating on in the middle of January? We had a portable heater which offered little warmth in a room with single glazing. Got into bed early but quilt was a summer weight and no blankets in the room. Heating returned next morning so can only assume it was a cost saving exercise and was on a timer. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was good with small croissants, pastries, cereal, fruit salad, yoghurt etc plus a very good full English or choice from menu. Staff were friendly & polite. Parking was onsite and we were given a token to put in the window of the car to show we were residents. On the whole a good stay but the heating lost them a star as did a barking dog next to our room - hadn’t realised it was a dog-friendly hotel so our fault on that one.

If you want an artic experience and have a freezing cold room with radiator on but not adequate for siz of room and bathroom with no heating then the Clarence hotel is for you. -2 last night ice formed on inside of bedroom windows. all reception could say it’s an old building it’s hot in the summer and cold in winter and would give me a better room if we were to come back again. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anybody.

This is a beautiful period hotel that is family run. The reception staff and the restaurant staff were fantastically welcoming and friendly. The mattress was a little too squishy for me. The bathroom tap wasn’t capable of running cold water. The WiFi password didn’t work. There was only one bath towel. However we understand how difficult it is for small businesses and overall we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Wish we had had the option of reserving king bed beforehand, as we got a room with 2 full beds and would have preferred a king (the friends we were traveling with got a king and a much fancier room, but I had made both reservations). Room was very spacious, but bathroom had 2 lights out which didn’t get fixed for the 2 days we were there (we were told that the maintenance person doesn’t work on the days we were there). No elevator, so lugging our 50-pound bags up and down 3 flights of stairs was difficult. Breakfast was great! Overall a positive experience, but I was somewhat disappointed with the things I mentioned.

Very nice place and staff are great, the breakfast was delicious and also the restaurant had great food it tasted like Michelin star quality foods, all around are clean, and we found out there that it was once The Duke of Wellington's house so they are trying hard to keep that feel alive so some might say need upgrades in some places but then you loose that feel. I recently stayed at [Hotel Name] for one night and overall, it was a mixed experience.
**Pros:**
- **Convenient Parking:** We found on-site parking as promised, which was very convenient.
- **Warm Welcome:** We received a lovely, warm welcome upon arrival, which set a positive tone.
- **Beautiful Room:** The room was beautifully decorated and incredibly clean, as was the bathroom.
- **Excellent Breakfast:** The breakfast was excellent, an absolute feast with a wide variety of options.
**Cons:**
- **Insufficient Towels:** Unfortunately, there was only one bath towel for two people, one bathrobe, no floor mat, and no face towels, which was inconvenient.
- **Noise Issues:** We had very noisy guests in the room above us who kept us awake until 1 AM. Despite reporting it a few hours before, nothing was done to address the issue.
- **Limited Coffee:** During breakfast, we only managed to get one coffee as it ran out and was not replenished.
Despite these issues, the hotel staff was accommodating the next day by allowing us to keep our car in the car park a couple of hours after check-out so we could go shopping.
Overall, while there were some disappointments, the lovely room and excellent breakfast made it a decent stay. I would suggest the hotel improve its attention to guest requests and ensure adequate supplies in the rooms.

Used Hotel as a base to easily get to Cotswolds with places like Bourton in Water, Broadway and Chipping Campden, all pretty accessible. Hotel was clean and tidy, and our room very spacious. Disappointed. Pictures make it look like there is a pool steam room and sauna at the premises. It even lists sauna and steam room and the main picture shows a lovely pool. In reality they give you a feee pass to a pool at a leisure club/boxing gym which is a 5 min walk away.

We received a warm welcome on arrival though room was not ready yet (which we expected). It was a nice building but a little tired in places. The window frame to the room had bare wood and flaking paint and some of the frame was rotten. Some of the wallpaper was peeling away. Despite this it appeared clean and it was a good location. Breakfast was nice too. However it should be stated there was no lift which could be a problem to elderly or infirm. This should be made clear on the website.

Hotel appeared to have a gym and pool, this turned out to be off site, which I dont think was clear from their listing. Hotel itself was good, room a bit small but we only had standard. Shower temp in room 8 was way too hot couldn't get it to cool off and needs some attention

Overall a really comfortable stay. Only issue was when I arrived into the foyer the reception was shut, I followed the instructions to ring the doorbell but there was music playing loudly in the bar downstairs and the staff didn’t hear the bell. Eventually I just took myself downstairs to find somebody so that I could check in. The shower was nice and powerful but the wet room style room meant that water covered a lot of the floor of the bathroom, perhaps a small ledge/lip could be installed to keep it within the shower cubicle area.

Our grand regency room had all mod cons and was well cleaned ad serviced.
Staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast (hot cooked to order plus buffet incl cereal, fruit salad and pastries) was good quality.

Terrible Rooms and Unhelpful Staff
Spent 2 nights here in room 5. The home made boxed wardrobe has all the main heating pipe in it so the room is constantly around 25c, so had to sleep with quilt sheet only and window open. The shower cubical is so small that if you drop anything you cannot pick it up. Also maximum height is 6’ so if taller will bang your head. USB ports do not work, light fitting has 4 bulbs not working. No towel rail,. So all 4 towels balanced on the radiator. Reported all on arrival but nothing was done. Tried to complain but each member of staff said they did not know as someone else was dealing with it.
Rang again to complain on Wednesday, said they would call me back. By Friday had not call back, called again and mid conversation they put the phone down on me. There are other issues but space does not allow me to expand.

Unfortunately I was unable to shower as the thermostat didn’t work. The shower was scalding hot! I was in a rush so didn’t have the time for them to fix the issue. On check out I mentioned it but they weren’t very concerned and just said they’d look into it
