Super charming and stylish (traditional Florentine) hotel. Many rooms (eg mine) overlook beautiful Piazza Santa Maria Novella and its church. Lovely views. Nice bathroom, very professional and friendly service from all the personnel there. The street level bar (inside
outside sections) seem to be favored by cool locals as well as guests. The food menu covered lots of bases and everything I sampled was delicious. Check out the Napoleon salon!

This is my third stay at this hotel & would never stay anywhere else. It’s minutes from the train station & walkable to all sites. The hotel itself is beautiful with a library room, bar & the breakfast included was perfect (scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, croissants, fresh orange juice, coffee…). We stayed in the top suite #601 w/ massive terrace & magnificent view of the Duomo. The room was clean & very comfortable. The front desk attendants were very friendly & helpful as was all staff.

Everything about this hotel exceeded my expectations. The view was absolutely stunning, and I was genuinely surprised by the size of the room. It is rare to find such spacious and comfortable accommodations, and it made the trip that much more relaxing.
The staff was truly the highlight of the experience. They are hands down some of the best I have ever encountered. Whether I needed help with directions around the city or advice on finding the best local restaurant in town, they went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of.
I am already looking forward to my next trip to Florence, and I won't be looking anywhere else. I will only be staying here!

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. You should book here to stay in Florence, and book here now before it fills up.

The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is very central- 5 min walk one direction to the Santa Maria Novella train station, 5 minutes in another direction to the Duomo. Within walking distance to multiple museums and the Ponte Vecchio. Many, many restaurants within walking distance. There is also a pharmacy, convenience/grocery store and a self service laundromat all within <5 min walk (all very helpful for international travelers!). The hotel also is on a beautiful Piazza you can walk around.

The breakfast is incredible- freshly made to order coffee, hot foods, cold cuts, breads, yogurts, something for everyone.

The rooms are spacious and room service is INCREDIBLE- they will come around multiple times a day and even lay out slippers and put a bedtime chocolate on your pillow for you before bedtime!

I would absolutely stay here again and hope I get to do so again- incredible experience!

Our stay at Hotel Santa Maria Novella was wonderful! The staff was exceptional — especially the team at the breakfast area. They were always so welcoming, friendly, and attentive, serving with genuine smiles and making sure every guest felt cared for. Their warmth really made a difference and set such a positive tone for each day.

The rooms were a bit small, but they were very comfortable, beautifully maintained, and had a classic charm that matched the elegance of the hotel. The location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of Florence, close to everything yet peaceful and relaxing.

We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Florence!

I loved the elegance and diversity of the daily breakfast, the courtesy of most of the staff, the charming Italian decor, and the room upgrade.

That said, the first evening I stayed there, a frightening incident occurred when a person knocked loudly on my hotel door and managed to open it. Although the door was not dead-bolted (our mistake), it was locked, which caused us great panic. I called the concierge right away, who managed the situation verbally (and sent someone up); however, there was no hotel-initiated follow-up or courtesy given from the hotel, which we found to be quite odd.

We have been vacationing for over 3 weeks and this was the last 5 days on our stop. Beautiful hotel, from the decor to the courteous staff to the central location. The room itself was very spacious for our party of 3. Fantastic bathroom that actual has amazing pressure in the shower! Bathrobes, slippers, turndown service...comlimentary water each night, what else can you want? Breakfast was included and it was like a fine dining experience, from white linen tablecloths to a delicious variety of foods. Finally had our fill of coffee! And the different fillings in the croissants...oh my! The bar/restaurant had plenty options and there is the roof top terrace. Staff gave recommendations, ordered transportation, it was truly the best hotel experience if our whole trip. Highly recommended.

The hotel was clean, which we appreciated. However, it was quite difficult to find at first due to a very small nameplate. There were also many steps to reach our room, and the reception didn’t offer a particularly warm welcome, which made our arrival feel a bit cold. The location was good though, which was a definite plus.

I had to make several requests to have this one thing done which should have been ready before I got there. Campaign was given in lieu of a bottle of wine also. Coveniently located, this hotel is very typical of italian hotels in grandiose historical cities - well below the standards of comparable US hotels, horrendously overprices, but staff trying to do what they can to minor the incoveniences of staying in.... well.... an old palace with need for a lot of maintenance and immense upgrades. The particular issue with this hotel is its labytinthical layout - i got consistently lost in the corridors desperately trying to find the room, upstairs, downstairs, up the elevators down other elevators... a true nightmare that only ended when at the brink of despair, the staff changed the room. Rooms are all old, dated and in need of upgrade but not sure there is much they can do, it would need to close for many months to do a multi million $$ renovation

I recently revisited this property after nearly 20 years, hoping to relive the wonderful experience I had back in 2005. That earlier stay left such a positive impression that I looked forward to returning with my family, including my two teenage sons. Unfortunately, what we encountered this time was far from what I remembered, and the overall experience was deeply disappointing. We had booked two rooms, expecting a comfortable and welcoming stay. Instead, we were met with a host of issues that should not be acceptable at any reputable property. Both rooms had a strong, unpleasant odor that made it difficult to relax. It was immediately clear that proper housekeeping and maintenance standards were not being followed. The bathrooms were not clean, and shockingly, neither room had basic toiletries—not even soap in the showers. The situation only got worse when we went for breakfast. The offerings were extremely limited and of poor quality, and there was a complete lack of hospitality from the staff. No one was available to answer questions or assist guests. Even asking for a cup of coffee seemed too much to ask—staff members stayed hidden in the kitchen and avoided any interaction with guests. There was no sense of service, care, or accountability. What makes this especially frustrating is the contrast with my previous visit. It’s sad to see how much the property has declined. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share our experience.
