The room was old but not like a charming old. There was some sticky substance on the door of our room. The refrigerator didn’t work. Nor did 2 of the outlets. It’s very very small but you are in the heart of Paris. It is just a place to sleep really. If you stay here the walls are thin. The lobby smells like sewage. But the rooms smell fine. It was okay. Wont stay here again probably.

First time to Paris. The staff was excellent and helped with restaurant options. Basement for breakfast felt like we were getting a truly authentic Parisian start to the day, like we were in a medieval cavern; awesome. Rooms clean and the location was perfect since it's like a suburb but easy to get the metro. Great area, felt like a local. Would stay again no doubt!

A very nice comfortable room with all the facilities up to a very high standard. Walking distance from Gare du Nord and all the major Paris attractions. Excellent value for money. Tourist tax was required to be paid in cash - I thought slightly odd that could not be paid by credit card which I have done in other hotels in Paris. Not a major issue though.

There is a very obtrusive smell in the common areas and hallways. Which was mentioned in other reviews. Upon entering oir room the smell seemed to fade. Until the bathroom door was opened. This new smell literally knocked you off your feet. There was a rotting log located in the bathroom ceiling with an indescribable horrid smell. Our whole family of 5 could not handle this. The cost of the room was quite expensive for our family of 5, there was no coffee or other free amenities available. The desk host was friendly and helped us find our way.

The room was too smal for 5. The beds were nice and confortable. That was ok. We asked for aconditioner for hair, there was not. The zone is ok for restaurants and have drinks,.perhaps no for families. But there was ok to only sleep.

Oh my lord! This is the WORST experience I ever had in my life. As an aircraft travel engineer, I get to travel a lot from work and never been SCAMMED like I did with this Hauteville Opera Hotel. In this case, I was in a family trip with children and we had to leave the hotel within couple hours of our arrival. The room doors DID NOT have any locks not even a safety chain. Bed sheets were dirty, smelled terrible, and the toilet was broken. THE HOTEL ROOMS DO NOT LOOK LIKE THE UPLOADED PHOTOS.

Please do not make the same mistake that I did booking this terrible hotel. Please stay safe and please DO NOT take your children there, I KNOW what I'm telling you. 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

The front desk person was extremely helpful and was very quick to give excellent directions and suggestions. There was a lot of noise at night until early morning from the bar across the street which made it difficult to sleep. A few blocks away was little rough and felt unsafe especially with a family traveling with small children.

I do not recommend at all. If you don't want to ruin your Vacation in Paris, you don't reserve at this hotel. The room looks like a cave, little and badly ventilated. I reserved it because it said that it had air conditioning and does not have it, it only has heating; So if you go in summer, you will die of heat. The service in the front desk is horrible. At the reception we were received by a young man who wore a open jacket without a shirt showing his chest without a minimum decorum, he gave us very bad impression. I have never lived an equal situation. It was definitely horrible.

Hotel was a walking distance to most of the train stations. The staff were so friendly and approachable and they were willing to help with the directions. I guess the only thing that they could improve on is to put something in the toilet to stop the water from getting out after a shower. Otherwise our overall experience was good for what we paid for.

The room was extremely small. You can’t sit on the toilet without heating your knee to the lavatory cabinet and can’t take a shower without hugging the shower curtain. No fridge or microwave. Good for short stay. Convenient access to subway and getting to main attractions in less than half an hour.

Perhaps not quite three star but still very nice

While this is shown as a three star hotel, it really is a two star (two and a half if it existed). I still enjoyed my stay there but the room was very small (pictures do a good job to make it appear larger than it really is). I was not in Paris to stay in my room so the size did not matter that much to me. Do not count on the TV to be a distraction: from the 30 channels or so, the reception on a dozen of those was very bad and all the others were in French (again not a big deal to me since I speak French). The room makes really good use of original stone walls , well integrated in the construction of the room. It is charming. Surprisingly, the hotel sits on a small street but the traffic was heavy and the noise level, especially scooters, make it impossible to open windows in the evening. Fortunately, AC worked well. I would recommend to find a room in the upper levels. However the hotel was very well located between walking distance of three subway stations, across from a great bakery I used for croissants, espressos and fresh sandwiches and in a neighbourhood that while is not touristy still has a large number of conveniences: cafes, restaurants, bars, small grocery stores, etc. I also really like the personnel at the hotel: in one week I dealt with many: they were all helpful, putting up with my many questions.

The hotel was in a good location with an easy walk into the town around the town hall/Notre Dame end and not too far from the sacre coeur. The room was small but clean though it was s little rough around the edges with some tiles off the wall and marks on bedroom ceiling. As a place to base yourself and sleep it’s fine but it’s not somewhere I’d choose to spend too much time

Great experience for our family on our first night of our trip. It was hard to find accommodation for five people without splitting us up, so we appreciated the five person room. The bathroom was very clean and nicely decorated. The fridge and fruit tea bags were a lovely additional touch. Not fancy but excellent for what we needed.

We got two interconnected rooms with one main door for a family of 5, a really pleasant surprise in an overbooked city like Paris. The hotel is located conveniently in one of the best arrondissements (1oth) in the city, within walking distance from Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est, and several metro stations (e.g.. Bonne Nouvelle, Poissonniere, and a couple of others). The staff is very friendly and always ready to help. Though we didn't need to be served in English (because one of us speaks French well), we observed that the staff spoke enough English to help other residents who did not speak any French. I recommend it highly! I liked everything about it, especially the modest rate, too.

The neighborhood is not good but it is conveniently located to reach important places in Paris. The name of the hotel is not visible from the outside, so we had difficulty to find it in dark in our first arrival. The hotel building is very old, the furniture, beds, etc are also old. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

We were a family of 5 traveling with a few younger children and were very pleased with this accommodation. The location is very convenient and close to a ton of restaurants, bars and other shops and is a couple minute walk from a couple of metro stops and about 10 minute walk from Gare du Nord rail station. The staff is very friendly and speak very good English. My only knock is the room was quite crammed for 5 people - really should have only fit 3. The wifi and AC worked well.

I would not even give them 1 star except maybe for location. The tiny room looked and felt like a cave with stone on the walls. A stained and dirty bed/couch, a fan when they advertised air conditioning, a desk that tilted so everything slid off. The bathroom was also the shower stall so the whole bathroom was a puddle of water with a wet toilet seat when you finished! I had to put down towels or stand in a puddle of water to dry my hair and brush my teeth. The room smelled musty and mildewed. In addition I booked a quad room for 4 people and they gave us 2 rooms at opposite ends of the floor!

Good evening, I found my family and myself in the need of leaving the hotel for the following reasons: there was dirty underware from previous guest in the bathroom; the shower has no partitions or any courtain to divide it from the rest of the bathroom; the noise from other Room is heard in the Room provided; there is a terrible smell of fungus and humidity in the Room and specially, in the bathroom; the pictures provided in the site, were nothing related to reality; the heater is not working as expected and neither the wifi... If its necessary, I would like to send you some pictures to support my unhappiness. I am very disappointed with this booking and expect to receive a refund for the nights that we are not staying in this hotel, which are going to be 3 from the 4 nights booked. I am looking forward to your response.

It was an OK hotel, staff were friendly and helpful. A couple of things were a bit disappointing for such hotel, the bed sheets could have been cleaner, the shower curtain was a mess. The safe was in the bathroom, and had to be opened with a tiny key because the combination digit keys were broken, so we just skipped using it.

Great old hotel.

They have a great hotel and they give a great service for the price. It’s an old building but they have an elevator. The customer service is outstanding. One of the rooms had carpet and the air conditioner needs to get fixed to decrease the humidity. But everything else was amazing. They are close to a principal avenue with metro stations. Was great! They clean everyday. Perfect to sleep and run to explore the city for the whole day. Thanks Hauteville!!

The staff at this property were very rude, and keeps the door locked to enter the property. We had to wait outside the accommodation until a staff member heard our knocking and opened the door. The property also offered WIFI connection, however this entire trip we were not able to connect to their wifi despite trying different passcode and connections. The staff did not care that we couldn't connect and repeatedly told us that it was a conflict with our devices. Yet, waiting in the lobby, I witnessed many guests complaining that they were not able to connect to the WIFI.

The staff was very VERY helpful and friendly. That’s worth gold if it’s your 1st time in Paris and don’t have a clue. We stayed in a finished attic room. It was spacious but nowhere to sit other than one chair and the beds. The bathroom was a nice size but no shower curtain which is odd to me. And there is a window in the bathroom where you can see into this persons apartment across the street. Which means he can see into your bathroom while you take a shower without a shower curtain. The bathroom wasn’t nasty but it wasn’t sparkly clean, either. I’d give it a solid 3 stars.

Not the best but not the worst

While the staff was really great, the hotel itself left a lot to be desired. The hall and rooms (on my floor anyway) are not carpeted and that combined with thin walls make for a noisy atmosphere. There was also a strong mildew smell in my bathroom which was probably caused in part by the shower. There is a shower curtain cut too short that did not keep water actually in the shower so the floor ended up being soaked despite my best efforts. The overall condition of the room was kind of shabby and not very inviting. I think some of the rooms have had a refurbish but I wasn't lucky enough to get one of those. I never had the hotel breakfast so I can't comment on that but there is an awesome boulangerie right across the street with delicious and inexpensive pastries. I liked the neighborhood a lot, plenty of restaurants and shopping. And there are a couple of Metro stops close by that can quickly get you to any spot in Paris. As I said, the staff were all lovely and helpful. If some money were spent on some upgrades, it could be a great hotel. I won't be visiting again until that happens.

Hotel is centrally located . An older bloke was sitting in hardly speak good English, wasn't feel welcomed. Didn't look very happy either, that's not a good sign for a hotel though.

As soon as we walked in to the room found bathroom door handle were hanging off the door from both in and out side . We needed it fixed but dispite so many equest to same person it never has been fixed , so we were left like that !!

So so...

The room we stood in was clean but small for three individuals. Paris in these days is not so safe to carry valuables on. So a \"safe\" was essential for us. Though the room info mentioned one the digital safe in the room was locked. The words of the receiption staff was: \"We cannot do anything, we do not have a super key to unlock it. A, visitor, like you! must have left it locked. You are free to use our safe down here, at the receiption\". So, we chose to carry all our valuables on us: Unpleasent situation.

There was a pub/restorent just beneath our room window (which had to stay open for ventilation, since the room was small) which emmited quite a noise that extended into the night. So if you have a light sleep that would become an annoyence.

Wi-Fi rarely worked on our floor and the rooms were tiny. However there is air conditioning and it worked well and the staff are friendly. Neighbourhood is also quiet so we actually got some sleep.

Room was an okay size and beds comfortable. The shower and basin were both slow in draining. Room on busy road and the sound of motorbikes and so forth made it difficult for me to sleep. Parking about 5 minutes walk away and 20€ per day extra.
Overall okay but Paris is not good to take a car.

The bathroom smelled very bad. Poorly designed bathroom making it hard to clean. Other unpleasant smells thoughtout the hotel. Room was poorly cleaned. I found a sock under the bed. We ended up leaving the hotel loosing two days of payment. The room on the 1st floor (European 1st, American 2nd Floor) was very loud. Staff was pleasant and offered to move to another room but the smells throughout were too much for us. The area is a bit sketchy at night.

Not worth its 4.5 rating!

I am being a little harsh on purpose as the 4.5 overall rating is misleading!
This hotel is in acute need of refurbishment. My room had broken light bulbs, an ancient bathroom, a disappointing mattress, and very few plugs (none of them in close proximity to the desk). There is no welcoming message in the room giving you the number to dial for reception, or the WiFi password, or breakfast times.
Service was okay, though I used the couple of mugs at my disposal to make myself a cup of tea and they did not get replaced for three days. Having said that, the lift, which was out of order when I arrived, did get repaired within the day.
In short, not as terrible an experience as my one star suggests, but not a great one either. My only star is for the friendliness of the staff, which is rare enough in Paris to be noted.

Great little hotel

We stayed at Hauteville Opera for 4 nights during our visit to Paris. It was very well located, the staff was friendly and we were able to get everywhere no problem. The only complaint would be the noise on the street - I suppose it was the night before Armistice Day (a bank holiday) so there were crowds of people in the streets. They were loud all through the night until about 4 am! But otherwise, the room was clean - a little small, but just right for us - and we were surprised by the fact that the washroom had no shower curtain/door (just the shower head and a drain, so your toilet and clothes would be wet). The breakfast was decent, no frills. And they were nice enough to hold our baggage on our last day before leaving for the airport, and even return my sandals that I forgot in the room. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel, but maybe not for more than 3 people.

La porte du 1er sas vers la chambre ne se fermait plus a clé, je suis ressorti manger et à mon retour je n'ai pas eu besoin d'utilisé la clé pour l'ouvrir contrairement à mon arrivée, je n'étais donc plus très rassurée pour la nuit.
La salle de bain sentait le renfermé malgré que la petite fenêtre soit ouverte à mon arrivée, et quand on ferme le rideau de la douche, la lumière est obstrué il fait donc très sombre.
Il faut aussi laissé l'eau coulé très, très longtemps avant d'avoir de l'eau chaude j'ai même cru qu'il n'y en avait pas et j'ai dû faire appel à la personne à l'accueil (très gentil) qui a vérifier la chaudière et est venu aussi vérifier dans ma chambre, ou il y eu au final de l'eau chaude...

De um modo geral é razoável. Quarto com carpete, banheiro meio estranho que molha o vaso ao tomar banho. Mas é honesto com as informações e os preços. Funcionários muito acessíveis e tentam ajudar o tempo todo. Excelente localização.

Beklentilerimiz yüksek olmamasına rağmen hayal kırıklığı yarattı. Evye musluğu ve klozet hareket ediyordu ve banyoda hoş olmayan koku vardı. Ayrıca girişte kredi kartı bilgisinin alınması da hoş değildi. Odalar arasında gürültü yalıtımı kötü. Mini buzdolabının soğutması yetersizdi. Tek tesellimiz Paris seyahatimizin genelde iyi gitmesi oldu.

Inga problem med renlighet men ett slitet hotell med t.ex. toadörr som inte gick att stänga.
Mörkt rum men ok sängar. Fanns inte tillgång till frukost men nära till boulangerie.
Frågade efter strykjärn och fick låna direkt så servicen var bra utifrån standard.
