Place is convenient, and there are several places where you can have dinner. You generally can get anywhere by using public transportation. The staff is generally ok, but we had a really bad experience with water being shutdown without notice, and being lied about the reason why it was shutdown, when confronted staff didn't like it at all that we asked around.

Expensive for what you get. Had a superior twin room and it was so so small. The bathroom was bigger than the bedroom. Very noisy from the street and beds uncomfortable. Pick somewhere else for $260 per night not including tax.

This was my second stay at Aulivia Opera. I find the location very convenient for Gare Du Nord and the airport. The area is lovely but I haven't ever had problems with sleeping. Staff are great.

Great stay at Hotel Aulivia Opera

We arrived late in the evening and we were welcomed by the receptionist, who was very friendly and booked us in promptly. We were on the 2nd floor overlooking the courtyard. This meant that we did not hear any of the hustle and bustle that was going on outside. The room was very clean and had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. A kettle for tea and a coffee machine was in the room. We were also provided with fresh bottled water. The bed was comfortable and the shower refreshing. All in all I could not fault the room or the hotel and the staff. We did not have breakfast at the hotel as we prefer to go outside and find a nice cafe where we can people watch at the same time. The area the hotel was in was great and near 2 metro stations. Lots of cafe's, restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay here again.

Great stay!

The neighborhood it's awesome, a lot of gastronomic options and a lot of party at night, fortunately the rooms are very well sound-proof so it doesn't bother you when you want to rest. Very near of different metro stations and less than 20 minutes of major touristic attractions.

The staff was amazing, is about 2 blocks from the chateau d'eau metro. It’s a very live area. It’s also about 20 minutes walk to Galeries Lafayette. The staff is amazing answered all questions.

As with most Paris hotels in this range the rooms are very small, but the hotel is well appointed and comfortable, well maintained and clean.

The hotel offers a bar and breakfast (although we did not take breakfast).

The staff are friendly and helpful, and speak English

The location is convienent for Gare du Nord (10 mins walking) and the local area offerss a selection of restaurants

Staff friendly, helpful and approachable. Room clean and warm. Quality and taste of the breakfast was disappointing as it was lukewarm and a bit tasteless. And the other off putting thing I witnessed was cutlery that fell on the floor was wiped with a hand and put back in the cutlery container. Certainly didn't like seeing that. There should be no short cuts to cleanliness, as small bad habits like that can lead to big careless habits like food poisoning . However, I would still return as overall my experience was positive.

Very friendly and helpful staff at this small hotel which is centrally located in a vibrant area, very close to the metro. The property probably gets its 4 star rating as a result of having a room service menu etc. Essentially it’s a typical Paris hotel with very small rooms, often classed as 3 star. Noise insulation between rooms is poor and rooms at the front experience street noise. Decor is fun and recently updated and the property offers nice touches. Just bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Small, cozy hotel next to bars and metro

My husband and I checked in for 6 nights and it was a very nice stay. Room was small but the beds were comfortable. We were walking distance to about 3 different metro stations, and were able to take the train from the airport to the hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. At night, there is a lot of street noise from nearby bars and restaurants, which we did not mind. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Keep in mind that this is an old European town nice and clean rooms, however small.
Recommend for young couples or business travellers, not so much for families with children.
Some nice bistros near by close access to metro.
Some people might find the neighbourhood colourful for after hours, some might find it lively.

Great hotel in a so-so neighbourhood

The hotel itself was wonderful - staff were great, everything felt new, bed and linens were comfortable, hot water with pressure, good wifi, but the neighbourhood not so much. I was with my husband the entire time, but if I was a single female walking by myself (day or night) I’d be very wary. It was very odd. The street the hotel is closest too (Rue des Petites Écuries and Rue du Faubourg Saint Denis) is a totally happening area. Cafes and pubs frequented by many and good eats. Walk a block East to the nearest metro station (Château d’Eau) and it’s a different story. Hawkers and random men in your face. Walk a block South to the Saint-Denis metro station and that felt a bit safer. For such a small distance there were extreme differences in demographics. Would still recommend this place but just want to make sure those reading this can make an informed decision.

The location was good as it was about 20 minutes away from the Lourve however the area did not feel safe to walk around at night. The hotel felt very small with one tiny lift that could fit no more than 2 people in it. The room itself was also small which was dissapoiting as it looked bigger in the picture and there was barely enough space for 2 people to unpack their stuff without being ontop of one another. On the first night I realised my bathroom door wouldn't close so asked the staff to fix it and was told someone needs to hold and push it from the outside so I can close it on the inside?? Eventually we just had to put a thick piece of card under the door so it wouldn't swing open as it was too difficult to force it shut from the outside. Breakfast was also poor with only a selection of eggs, beans and miniature sausages for hot food, none of which tasted good. The only saving grace was that (minus the door situation) the staff were helpful and always polite and there are some nice bars literally right outside the hotel for those people looking for a place close by to drink. Unfortunately the hotel is definitely a fixer-upper and I would not stay again.

I am more disappointed with booking with Hotels.com. My friend booked with Trivago and got a 80% lower rate than us. In addition, he was entitled to free breakfast while we have to pay for ours.

Friendly hotel

All reception staff speak very good English and are very helpful. The hotel also sells the 4 day museum pass (handy if you don't want to pay by card at the tourist info centres). Breakfast buffet is nice with good selection. The rooms are not particularly big but they're clean, keep out the light if you like your room dark and well air conditioned. Kettle with tea/coffee facilities in the room. Nearest metro station is Chateau D'Eau (3 mins walk away) and there's a Fran Prix supermarket literally across the street on the right from the hotel. There's also a few cafe's/bistro's literally 1 min walk from the hotel. For travellers new to Paris and wanting to buy the carnet book of 10 single metro tickets, make sure you use the machines right next to the info desks at the stations otherwise you won't get the 10 tickets (I got duped). For reference, the machines you need to use accept notes, the others don't.

Nice hotel near two metro stations

I would highly recommend this hotel for a short city break. It was very clean hotel and the staff were very friendly and helpful. For me the biggest plus point is that the hotel is situated near two metro stations (2 lines) - very easy to use the metro. So many places to eat/bars around the hotel, don't be fooled by the area. The only downside to the hotel was that the room was so small, however we were hardly on the hotel so massaged. Thank you best western and helpful staff.

Nice hotel close to the metro

The staff at BW were really nice an helpful. The hotel is close to several bars and restaurants. It's in a pretty busy neighborhood. It's close to the metro which is great. Might seem like a shady neighborhood at first but they are all about making sales. You can find some cheap souvenirs.

A great value place. Paris is not very big so the location really not important. Metro nearby if you need it, but walk to say Chatelet only 20 mins. Amazing variety of eateries nearby from posh to street. Manager very helpful. Loved my stay.

This hotel is decent but we did not think it was properly classified as a 4-star hotel. The rooms were small, the lobby was small, the elevator was small, etc. It was not in a particularly great part of town, although it was interesting and probably an up-and coming area. Basically, this was a serviceable place, but not 4-star.

Good value Hotel.

We booked this hotel \"blind\" - it was a \"mystery hotel\" - and were pleasantly surprised by what we got. The Chateu D'Eau area was very handy for us as we wanted to explore Montmarte and Montparnasse - both easily accessed by Metro. The local bars and bistros proved to be friendly and offered good value for money. There is also a passage in which quality Indian food is available. Reception staff were helpful and able to offer answers to all questions we asked.

Surprisingly great!

Coming from the US where the Best Western chain is seen as low-end, this was a fantastic surprise! Our original accommodation let us down, so we had to get a room ASAP via Expedia. This one came up and was pretty well priced and in the area we wanted.

When we arrived, we found it was literally around the corner from an up-and-coming trendy area of bars and restaurants. That said, it was also very quiet in the room - though if you wanted the sound of the city you just opened the large windows.

The decor was very odd - in a good way: from the grand-piano shaped check-in desk, to the collection of \"Topo Gigio\" puppets from the Ed Sullivan Show displayed under it made this a unique hotel. And after chatting with the staff, we learned that the Best Western chain in France is actually a collection of Boutique hotels - each with a different decor/theme.

Yes, the hotel and it's rooms were small - it is Europe after all. But it was quality. The bed was very large and comfy, the bathroom had ultra-modern fixtures and was spotless, and the room had air-conditioning that worked well (especially since we had unusually hot temps around 88!)

All in all, I would definitely stay here again, but also will try other Best Westerns in the future.

The hotel was very nice and modern, with a clean room and good amenities. The bed was massive and comfortable, and the shower pressure was great. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpfully spoke English (since our French was absolutely terrible). I would definitely stay at the hotel again, however the location wasn't the best we stayed in in Paris (it felt a little dodgy at night compared to our next location). My sister and I stayed there, and as two females we didn't feel entirely comfortable walking around the hotel area.

Hotel not in best of neighborhoods. too many undesirable vagrants lingering around the entrance and the streets. Did not feel adqueately safe. Hotel not the cleaniness, toilet seat was not attached securely to bowl and kept sliding off. Carpeting not very clean and dust in the closet and around the bed areas. Bed very uncomfortable, mattress sagging.

Hotel was good, didn't have breakfast so can't comment. The bathroom was in need of a small repair, and was very cramped. The room was kept clean and was well decorated.
The area felt a bit rough, particularly after dark, but for what we paid we were very happy.

Found the area just outside the hotel to be very dirty.. I had booked a classic double bed and got two single beds that were not even put together.. The bath was so small you could not even get in and out of the shower without bumping into the basin or the door. on arrival i could not connect to the wi-fi, i called reception and was told they will call me back.. 3 hours later no call back.. called again and was asked to come down stairs, finally got it connected. Ordered room service at 21:14 and it arrived at 22:40!! 1 hour and 25 mins later... at last but not least, the noise from the street and the bars will keep you awake until well after midnight, and the website states soundproof rooms.. the room next to me switch there TV on at 05:50 and it sounded like it was right next to my hear...

Good hotel in central Paris

When we arrived to the hotel, the person in hotel gave us a key for our room, which was very nice.. But, we went to our room, the room clening had not been done, which made us feel bad.
The way of use the botton of lighting in the room was too dificult for us to switch off and switch on.

Great hotel in a trendy pocket of Paris.

Great service, nice hotel. Rooms are small, but to be expected in Paris I guess. The staff are great, especially the guy that usually does overnights, he's brilliant.

The hotel is in Opera, which is a bit of a dump, but the junction it's sat on is full of trendy bars and places to eat which make it brilliant. One block from the Metro it's perfect.

Overall good.

A bit of a rough neighborhood, however we did go out and about at midnight and it was safe. Oddly seemed a bit more rough at 4-5 in the afternoon with a few men arguing on the streets from surrounding bars.
special note: rooms cleaned spotless! The deli up around the corner rue Dennis? ?? Amazing!!!!! Try his quiche Lorraine! And eclairs of course. The turkish restaurant accross the street delicious!!!

Cute hotel near amenities

Hotel is situated only 15mins walk from gare du nord station and close by to the metro station and local shops, cafes, restaurants. Very convenient. We stayed for 3nights at a good rate and staff very friendly, helpful and spoke english. Only problem was tv had just french channels so make sure to bring an ipad if you want to stay entertained on a very cold night. Overall would stay here again due to lovely hospitality.

Decent Hotel, questionable area

Overall, the hotel was ok, but the neighborhood was not the greatest. There always seemed to be great numbers of people just loitering outside on the street.. not on their way to somewhere, or shopping, just hanging out. Later one evening, I even witnessed one of them urinating in the street... The front desk clerk at check-in was a little gruff, but otherwise polite.
