Good location. Basic room but clean and suitable if you don’t plan to spend much time in your small room. Nice sun deck. The hotel website said breakfast buffet was available until 11:30 but when we got there about 10:55, they said it was closing at 11.

Only gap that’s why I gave 4 stars is the air conditioning in my room, it was an old and outdated system and there was no extraction fan in the bathroom. All the rest was great

Not far from the train station. The room and bathroom are both spacious. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The free minibar drinks are a big bonus. The rooftop area offers a nice view and is a great place to relax. There’s also free coffee and tea in the lounge area after breakfast time.

While staff and hotel vibe/concept were on point, the facilities are not new and need a bit pick me up. Room floors need to be mopped throughly and bathroom has mold and mildew that needs to be removed. I’ll recommend to have a pocket door in the restroom for easier access.
The layout of room 501 is awkward and does not leave room to open suitcases. Bed was uncomfortable.
Honesty bar concept is cute, solarium is nice, bar/dining area is welcoming.

This was our first time in Barcelona and the first hotel we stayed in so I can’t compare it to other hotels. It is nice though and the staffs are friendly. The only thing I don’t like but not a big deal is that I find the lighting too dark specially in the hallway. Again, it’s just me and other people may prefer that.The area is safe.

We were looking for a cruise near the cruise port to make our cruise experience easier. This hotel was excellent. The location was very quiet with walkable streets. The recommended restaurant from the reception desk was perfection. I would recommend and if we go on another cruise out of Barcelona, we will stay there again.

Strange room and building

Strange hotel room… elevator had barely room for one person and a carry on. Our room had chips missing from the floor. The bathroom products had the weirdest and cheesiest sexual messages on them that I’m still confused about. The room was very small. No fridge and no tea or coffee making supplies. Shower pressure was pretty good. Air conditioning worked well. Nice neighbourhood but far from touristy things.
Nice staff. Carpet outside the room had all sorts of gross stains that were glowing in the black light.

Stayed here for a conference, was good for what I needed. The breakfast area was very nice, check-in and check-out were easy, and the front desk staff were helpful.

The walls are very thin, so you can hear doors closing from anywhere. There was no key for the safe in my room and the shower head wasn't very clean.

Would stay again for a conference but not for a longer vacation.

I would not recommend this hotel for many reasons. It’s very loud, you can hear everything that everyone was doing. Maid service, hotel guest entering and leaving their rooms, toilets flushing and showers running. We were located on the first floor and it smelled like a wet and dirty basement. The sheets felt damp, your clothes would feel damp. It was impossible to feel clean. It was not worth the price at all. Very disappointed. Don’t let the name fool you, she is basic but not chic.

Great location for Barcelona Santos and Placards d’Espanya. Hotel has a quirky design and you can make free coffee and take free cake all day. However the rooms are a little shabby. No mirrors in the bedroom and only plugs on one side of the bed. We were woken up by a huge group of people talking loudly for about 30 minutes outside our room at 6.30am.

Lovely Barcelona hotel

I stayed at the Chic&Basic Velvet hotel whilst attending a conference at Fira Barcelona Gran Via. I really enjoyed staying at this hotel - particularly liked the free tea and coffee and the lovely terrace. The location was great, just 10 mins walk from the Placa Espanya station, and very nice restaurants nearby. I will come back if I am ever in Barcelona :)

The hotel was neat & clean. Reception staff was helpful, spoke English. Reasonable choices of fruits, bakery, eggs, juices, coffees, teas, etc. Lobby was okay. Common space for tea, coffee, muffins, and (honor) bar. Common room & terrace were very pleasant for get-togethers, resting, reading, The rooftop was a nice place for people to sit around, sun-bathe, etc. The overall décor of the hotel was yes CHIC, but BASIC.
We had to shift rooms three times in five days. No help in shifting Room sizes are small - compared to rates charged. Rates should have included breakfast.

Best part was that all of the 4-5 reception staff were excellent, friendly, spoke great English and I felt very welcomed.
The wifii worked well.
Breakfast was excellent very broad selection of everything you could imagine
and very tasty and nice long hours.
The are amazing in they offer free sweets and snacks all afternoon.
In close to the train station and the shopping part of town
The rooms were smallish but adequate.
Although because there is 1 window and the building has the courtyard in a central vent - it can get a bit stuffy if you want the window open for fresh air circulation. No problem if you are an a/c person.

We loved our stay at Velvet! It’s a great location and our room was quiet and comfortable. We were a bit concerned about beds, per the other reviews we read. We called ahead to make sure we’d have a good double bed and we were told it would not be a problem. It turns out it was in fact two beds pushed together, HOWEVER it was not a problem for us at all. The bed was made up with one set of sheets and it was almost imperceptible that it was actually 2 mattresses. We slept very comfortably.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
We recommend renting bikes for your time in Barcelona. It was a super great way to see the city!

Nice lobby but the rest of the hotel is run down. Very small room. Bathroom needs help— door doesn’t close easily and the frame had lots of nail holes. Located off the beaten path which did make it less noisy. Not a fan of the blue lights in hallway—movie theater theme seemed odd to me.

Conveniently located and clean spacious rooms

Room was clean and spacious with enough storage space and the bathroom was also clean. The designs were cosy and relaxing in the room.

The hotel staff were polite and patient on more than one occasion helping with tourist questions.

The walls of the room were a bit thin though so whenever the cleaners in the morning cleaned next door I would be woken up right away. Also the curtains although thick weren't blocking out all the light which for someone like me, needing pitch black darkness to sleep, wasn't helpful.

Breakfast had quite a variety of items.. personally I think they needed to add more hot options like other egg choices. Their jam and nutella-filled pastries were beautiful though.

The hotel is in a decent location, the area itself is rather residential but is located in good proximity to the Nou Camp, the gothic quarter, Sagrada Familia and Montjuic.

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at Sant Angelo, the rooms, though small, were comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The free wifi was reliable. A short walk to a bus stop and metro station made touring all of Barcelona very convenient.

When my partner and I first arrived at this hotel we were shocked to find it was completely different from the pictures on this website. However, it looked a lot better than originally expected.
A lot of information of this website was wrong actually, the front desk doesn't look like that, it's not bath only, and our room didn't have any kitchen appliances except a mini fridge.
It's brilliantly located, less than a ten minute walk from espanya metro station (I recommend buying a multi day pass if you plan on using public transport a lot, it's worth it), and roughly 15 minutes away from the national art museum of Catalonia which is worth seeing even if you don't go inside, its incredible. Also, it's not that far to walk to Las Ramblas and Port Vell or you can hop on the metro at Espanya and get off at Liceu.
Staff felt slightly unapproachable, as 90% of the time four of them were in conversation behind the desk, and didn't look at us as we walked passed. When we did interact with them though they were very nice. They did give us conflicting information for how to get back to the airport and in the end we found our own way there.
The room was clean and the bed was huge. It was cleaned very well everyday. One little problem is the noise both outside and inside the hotel, we went in November so it wasn't that bad but I can imagine how much worse it would be during popular tourist months.

A Fleabag Motel With A Highfaluting Name HYDE PARK

I was given an absolutely horrible room on Day 1 in the basement level with a work-room and public stairs right outside my window. The result I had to keep the curtains entirely closed for basic privacy. The WiFi did not work on Day 1 either.
Managed to changed to a better room on top floor for Day 2 & 3, after complaining, angry exchanges and a threat to leave the hotel. Was tired of the front-office staff's constant stonewalling on every request with \"Sorry, That Will Not Be Possible\". I am a lot wiser, for my next choice of hotel to stay in London.

The hotel is basic with small but clean rooms. It is a perfectly reasonable place to stay if your main purpose is to see Barcelona and you just need a place to sleep. I found it a little strange that the corridors are so poorly lit, but this overall did not impact the quality of my stay. The staff were helpful, for example when we needed to print out a ticket. There are metro stops within a 10 minute walk, and the neighbourhood felt safe even after dark.

The room was very basic, and toiletries provided were just a hand soap and a liquid shower soap, so if you're planning on taking advantage of a luxurious bed and amenities, this isn't for you. The walls are also a tad thin, so if you're a light sleeper and not exhausting yourself during the day, it might bother you. However, this worked for us because we did not hang out in the hotel much but to sleep and wash really.

Two mornings I went for breakfast, which had a nice seating area and buffet basics, and decently priced. The wifi worked very well. There was always a person at the front desk to say hello and offer assistance. We only showered and slept in the room, and otherwise wandered the city. There are two nearby metro stops that made it very easy to get around.

Nightmare in Barcelona!
We stayed in the hotel for over a week. We were searching for a central hotel and our budget was tight. The price was very appealing and so it seemed like a decent choice for a 3 star hotel.
Neither of us is picky about choosing a hotel, and we knew that this is a 3 star hotel so we can't expect any extra comfort, but it turned out that the room we got was NOTHING AS DESCRIBED.
Here is a summarization of the reasons that mainly concerned me:
1.The room was claustrophobic, about 95 square feet (= 9 square meters), including the bed, the toilet and the shower together. The free space was 3 square meters!
2.The toilet was damaged: pressing the button didn't seem to have any effect on the toilet and water was flowing constantly for several hours.
3.There is no window, nor any fresh air from outside! Only cigarette smoke coming from a ventilation shaft.
4.The shower head was broken.
5.You could hear every sound from the nearby rooms.
6.The breakfast was BAD: The hotel DIDN'T REPLACE any of the food of the buffet in any day of our stay! A rotten tomato was let there every day!
On our last day in the hotel: the breakfast staff sliced the rotten tomato into 4 pieces, and put it again in the buffet!! Disgusting!!
7. Bad sheets were dirty with hair from previous guests. Hotel didn't replace!
please, do yourself a favor and choose any other hotel in your trip to Barcelona. It ruined our holiday and we felt like we've been scammed

Just what we wanted.

Went to Barcelona with friends for the Sonar festival.

Wanted a safe, calm hotel that served breakfast late and in walking distance from \"Sonar-By-Day\". Hotel Sant Angelo provided what we wanted and we were well pleased with our stay.

Breakfast was served until 11:30 and was a selection of fresh fruit, some canned fruit. Pastries, yogurt, potato/egg and sausages and machine-brewed coffee. Nothing spectacular but it did the job.

Check-in was fast, polite and well-informed. Got recommendations for a hair-dresser around the corner, information about the hotel and amenities.

Check-out was also exactly what you want. No surprises just good service. We had ordered wake-up service and a taxi to take us to the airport. Wake-up was on time and taxi was ready even before we were done checking out.

The room was clean and housekeeping came every day.
The room did not have a shower curtain which was a bit annoying.
WiFi reception in the room was fine, not the fastest connection but sufficient.

Hi everyone.We had 8 fantastic days stay at Sant Angelo.The hotel neighbourhood is super.Only 2 mins walking distance from metro station/Espana square/ which is one of the greatest sight with the Magic Fountain.The hotel is in a quiet street just beside a very nice park ( Parc Joan Miro ).There are 2 cafe in the park with very kind staff !!!You can rent bicycles at the hotel (15 euro/day).There is a big shopping centre nearby ( Arenas de Barcelona ) where you can buy anything what you need or even more :)The only negative thing is what they should solve is the front doors to the rooms.They are very thin so you can hear everything from the corridor.Every morning we woke up for the cleaners started to pick up their stuff from the cleaning cabinet.Anyway a good hotel,value for money,nice staff and in heart of Barcelona !!! Have a nice stay with them !

A bit out of date and few things could be repaired (loose ceiling in bathroom which was moving each time there was an air movement). Nevertheless staff very helpful, breakfast room, room and hallway clean. Generally, good value for money.

This is not a four star hotel. It is not even a two star hotel according to my view and experience having travelled a lot. I had to drag my luggage all by myself to my room. No restaurant in the hotel and for every meal had to take a taxi or walk for 5 to 10 minutes to the nearest decent restaurant. Reception staff were ok. The receptionist while I was checking out tried to convince me that I had still to pay for one day of my stay which was untrue and matter ended when I showed the booking I had done with expedia. Every time the next room door was closed I practically jumped from my bed. I could hear the next room guests talking. I think the problem is with the doors that close with such a loud bang. No peaceful night sleep. I would not recommend this hotel to my friends.

Nice and convenient place to stay

I only was there for two nights and only came back to the hotel to sleep. The room was very clean and the personnel answered all my questions. They were very helpful especially with my several wake up calls in the morning.

Nice hotel close to metro station.

Hotel was nice, front desk people were very friendly and helpful (they provided us a map and all the information we required to move around Barcelona). The room was large and clean with a small fridge, the bathroom had double sink and all the amenities you could need.
We stayed at a double room and the only issue I could say is that the \"bed\" was made of 2 twin beds that would open int he middle due to the floor being a bit slippery, also the hotel is close to a school so it can get a bit nosy during the week, however it is located on a good neighborhood and very close to the Barcelona Main Train Station.

Went to a conference. Ideal for what I wanted. Shower fitting a bit loose in the bathroom, but no other problems. Location great for access both to the conference and tourist sites via the metro.

great hotel to visit barcelona

Perfect hotel! Simply a bit far from the main attractions, but that's it. The parking is very usefull too. Room was simple, but clean and comfortable. Would definitly go again!

Only good beacause it was in the good area

No wi fi working only one computer in the reception very slow . First room i get was terible. The second much bigger with view but instead of a double bed we had two singles so me and my wife sleep separately....
