Staff are exceptional, breakfast is truly continental, views of the canal are excellent, location is 5mins walk to San Marco square. It would be even better if there was a lift but after all the pizza and pasta, the stairs are good exercise! The staff help with the luggage upon arrival and departure. Once the dock is functional in February, that will be another bonus, otherwise it's a 5min walk (a little more with luggage) to the nearest dock.

Fabulous location overlooking the Grand Canal which was mesmerizing and changing every minute from sunrise to breathtaking sunset and sparkling nighttime.
Top floor with a view at this price point comes with the price of 3+ flights of stairs.

It’s a great small property in a brilliant location, however it is basic and doesn’t have any facilities other than the small reception and the breakfast (which was brilliant!) area beside the rooms on the 4th floor. But value wise it’d be hard to beat.

Liked the positioning just behind the Giglio boat stop. Very conveniently positioned near to piazza Di San Marco. Didn’t like all the stairs to go up and down every time we entered or left the hotel.

This hotel had a fantastic location. It was steps off the Giglio Vaparetto stop. It was very close to St. Mark’s square either walking or by Vaparetto. Also, right next to Musica Palazzo where you can see a wonderful opera in an intimate setting. Delicious breakfast with a balcony off the breakfast room with a view of the grand Canal. Our room was an enormous suite which we were upgraded to for free. The entire place has obviously been completely renovated recently because it was amazing! The only possible downside would be for the unfit or handicapped because there is no elevator and the rooms are on the 3rd floor (4th floor US). Air conditioning worked well. We loved it there!

The location is perfect and right off the boat at Giglio stop. It’s 3 min to San Marcos square and all the high end shops! The breakfast is outstanding and the lounge/breakfast area is in Gran Canal with balcony for all to use. We were more than thrilled with this hotel! Highly recommend it and the rooms are very large. ABSOUTELY AMAZING. Excuse the capitals but I simply cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. After staying in over 15 hotels over 4 weeks of travelling around Europe, this was by far, the best in every way.

What an amazing hotel. I didn’t realise it literally is on the Grand Canal nor that a Vaporetto stop is out the front so location is perfect. It’s under 10 minutes to St Marks square and quite central to most things (keeping in mind you can rarely walk in a straight line).
Up 3 flights of stairs (no lift except for luggage) you are in a villa from the 1300’s that has been beautifully renovated. There are only 10 rooms and ours was spacious with a huge bathroom.
The breakfast buffet had everything you would want and more.
I highly recommend.

Everyone should be aware that you have to walk up a bunch of flights of stairs-no elevator. Wi-Fi is very spotty. Room in ok, nothing special. Staff is terrific & accommodating. Breakfast ok but location is superb.

The hotel is located right on Grand Canal on a quiet side street, and only few short steps from the S. Maria del Giglio vaporetto stop. Its also a 10 min walk to San Marco Square, Teatro la Fenice and convenient to other tourist attractions. My room was very spacious & there is a nice breakfast buffet every morning. It is worth mentioning that the rooms are all on the 3rd level (4th Fl for US) and the hotel doesn’t have an elevator so pack lightly!

The property location was great - right off of a vaparetto stop, along the canal. Short walk to St. Marks (5-7min). Our only complaint was the check-in process. Our room was supposed to be ready by 1pm, but when we arrived they said it would be 2pm. The bathroom in the lobby was broken, so we had to go to a sister hotel. It was an inconvenience, but the staff was nice and as helpful as they could be. The stay came with breakfast which offered a selection of items from pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, meats and more. Our (king) room was cozy - small but not uncomfortable and had everything we needed. This is a no extra frills, quality hotel for those looking for comfort, cleanliness and convenience.

Great renovated hotel centrally located!
This is a wonderful small hotel. It’s a renovated palace right on the grand canal. Our room was lovely with a sitting room and bedroom. The staff at Locanda de la Spada are wonferful. There is no elevator and all rooms are on the 3rd floor. We knew this when booking, but we were out exploring Venice, so this was a non issue for us and honestly is not a big deal if you are ok with steps. Breakfast was great and there were many choices (loved the pancakes). Off the breakfast area, there are two sets of doors that open right onto the grand canal. This hotel is also just 20 steps from the Giglio vaparetto stop (#1 line) so bringing luggage is very easy from the train station as water taxis are expensive. It was a 5 minute walk to San Marco and a 10 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge. It is very centrally located. In the evening, it was quiet and great for sleeping. We loved this hotel and would stay again!

Amazing location, breakfast, staff. Spacious & clean room. Minor issues: (1) Hotel is showing its age. We stayed here 6 years ago when it was brand new. Now all the arm chairs in the breakfast room are faded with the faux leather peeling off. Sink faucet in our bathroom looked like it was about to break. (2) Shower would not drain properly, and we were told that nothing could be done. Overall, still very happy with our stay and probably one of the better hotels in Venice.

At the end there was a charge which could have been avoided, we asked for an itemized list of what was all used from the fridge and got some attitude. Perfect in so many ways!
First of all, this hotel is steps from the Vaporetto. We stepped off the boat and headed up the alley and there it was! Our check in was easy and the room was ready early. There is not an elevator, but a lift for luggage. This wasn't a problem for us and only added to the experience. All the rooms are on the 4th floor and there are only 10 of them. There is a large common area hallway with seating and large doors that open onto the Grand Canal. It is lovely! Breakfast is served in a room off the common area and it was the best breakfast we had in Italy. So many choices!! the rooms are beautiful - clean and modern. The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms are beautifully tiled with huge showers. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. The hotel is located in Giglio, very close to San Marco Square. It is perfect for high end shopping or just wandering the waterways and alleys. I can't say enough about this hotel! It was the perfect way to end our trip in Italy!

This hotel is located very close to Water Bus Stop with less than a block walk to the hotel door. They offer a wonderful breakfast with many choices from cereal to eggs (scrambled or hard boiled), breads etc. They is only one issue and that is there is no elevator and the rooms are on the 4th floor. It was great for getting exercise though. We would stay again at this hotel.

Room clean and modern. Only down side would be the lack of lift, but this wasn’t a problem for us! We would definitely recommend/return!

He put us in the back room. It was very smelly. Room was dirty. My wife was very upset for $350 per night room. Hower one guy helped to change the room. It was better but still need to do better job with overall service. You have to walk 3 floors to get to the room. All rooms are on 3rd floor.

We had a lot of trouble finding the hotel as it's down a small alley with no sign. However, it's in a great location once you find it! It's just one square away from San Marco square and right on the grand canal. The hotel is lovely and clean. Well worth it!

The hotel is conveniently located right next to a water bus stop. The front desk staff was very friendly, helpful & their English was very good! We were very happy with the room size & how modern it was. The breakfast was amazing! I just wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the view from the dining area, it was beautiful! All the rooms are on the top floor and their is no elevator so if you have mobility problems be warned. The hotel is a renovated palace. The owners did a great job with the renovation!

ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR THE DISABLED!
The hotel was excellent but I am disabled and need to get near to the room by wheelchair, or a short distance on crutches. Nowhere on the website did I see any warning that this was unsuitable, I checked that there was a walk in shower not a bath or bath shower. When we arrived I found out that there was no lift and the stairs were 85 steps to my room. I managed to get to the first floor and into the tiny luggage lift then up the last flight of steps. I double checked the website and still could not see any warning and neither could reception. there was also no provision for allergy sufferers at breakfast. The hotel managed to get us a room in a sister hotel 100 yards away but it was 3 star not 4, it was shabby the TV was tiny and had no hdmi port, we asked for a replacement, the answer was no. the aircon rattled away loudly all night vainly trying to keep the temperature down, the shower was tiny and had seen better days, the fridge didn't work at all and the wifi was very temperamental. We asked for a partial refund which ping ponged between the 2 hotels until we left with nothing. There was also no provision here for allergy sufferers. I paid for a weeks breakfasts and had nothing I suppose we should have been grateful for a bed.

It is a boutique hotel with 10 rooms, very comfortable rooms, the bathroom has excellent products, very comfortable, a very good hair dryer not typical of other hotels, attentions are excellent.
The rooms are on the third floor, as the hotel is in a building that was a palace and is very old, there is no lift, but the staff goes up and drops your luggage. It is very understandable that you can not make a lift in an old building which was a palace, but it is very good that the guests know in advance, so there will be no complaints later.

If walking From Saint Marks Square, follow the yellow l' Academy sign (English translation) . Cross two bridges and in the square turn down the dark alley (too funny). This is very important: if taking the Allaguna water taxi (12 Euros from Cruise ships) They drop you in the square and you need to either walk or take the local water bus number 1 or 2 for 8 Euros (not recommended with suitcases), or a water taxis for 20 Euros (Really? its only 4 min), but you can walk! 15 to 20 min. From the airport, Allaguna is 15 Euros. Note from the airport The Allaguna water taxi last stop is at the hotel, just walk 50 meters up the dark alley. The run every 30 minutes. You cannot beat the location.

Locanda de la Spada exceeded all our expectations! Great location - very close to St. Mark's square and is literally a few yards away from the water ferry/taxi station. Absolutely gorgeous view of the Grand Canal from our room. Lots of space in the room and it's perfectly clean. Huge tea selection. Very tasty complementary breakfast. I definitely recommend this hotel. Even the most picky person will be pleased!

The hotel was very small with no elevator. You had to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get to the hotels rooms. When we got into the room, it was 85 degrees. HOT!!! The AC did not work well. when we showered the room became a sauna. I called for some help but no one could do anything. Everytime we would leave the room the Ac would turn off .Making it worse. When we left the hotel , they would make us leave the room key . Very Strange. Stay away from this hotel.

It was easy to get around San Marcos, and the hotel was nice the breakfast was really tasty , however if you go with loud kids , they don't like it, the guy at the front desk told us at the begging of the check in, since my 2 years old nephew was crying tired. I thought that was discriminatory but I did not make a big deal because we wer really tired.

The service here was amazing! They arranged a private boat to Murano (for free) and we had a wonderful time. All of their recommendations were great! Note they don't have an elevator so you'll need to walk up 70+ steps, but they handle all your luggage and it's worth it!

Fantastic location! Easy to miss hotel. I believe it was Giglia water taxi drop off from train station but would confirm at ticket counter outside train station. When dropped off you walk a few steps up the alley and the door is on the right. There is a common balcony at the hotel overlooking the Grand Canal. The complimentary Breakfast was great with a good variety. It is a renovated Palace so no lift or elevator...only stairs to get to the rooms but there is a small lift that staff take luggage up and down for you. The staff went out of their way to accommodate and help in all aspects. Great Stay!

It was a little difficult to find the hotel on the stormy night that we arrived but once there, the staff was very helpful and we felt a warm welcome. Staff was very nice and helpful! The location of the Hotel was perfect for water buses and taxis as well as being a short walk to St Marks square, the Rialto bridge and the other tourist sights. In St Marks square there are street sellers of Roses who do not take No for an answer, they walk up to couples and push the rose in the ladies face and when told you don't want the flower they tell you it's free then if the lady accepts they follow you and hastle you for money. As there are many of them located all around the square it can be particularly stressful as you have to get quite annoyed with them to make them go away. If the police see them they are moved on. The street sellers spoilt the 4 nights I stayed in Venice for me as it was the end to a wonderful cruise. I suggest you obtain a very loud whistle and use it as they approach you. Venice itself has a lot of history and places to visit and trips to other islands such as the Murano glass factory. Everyone we spoke to was very pleasant and helpful and all in all we had a lovely time, staying in a great hotel and eating wonderful food. It can be expensive to eat and drink in and around St Marks square and the main sights, but if you are willing to walk a little further away then you can get excellent food, drink and service for a lot less. The hotel staff were very knowledgable and gave us excellent advice and directions of places to vist
