Such a great neighborhood, hidden far enough away from the tourist crowds while not being too far from tourist attractions. The staff is kind, helpful and very pleasant. Located a very short walk from the Academia water-bus station. The hotel is in the Dorsoduro neighborhood, full of charm and unique shops and delicious restaurants. We opted for the superior room with canal view and we are so glad we spent the extra money. We had our own very little terrace on a side canal and it was so magical. Jet lag had me up at weird hours and I got to watch early morning FedEx , linen and wine deliveries all done by boat.
Our room was small like I imagine most Venice hotel rooms are but the luxurious and updated features made us feel like we were in the lap of luxury.

The pros: quiet location near Accademia bridge, clean and modern facilities, excellent buffet breakfast, friendly staff. The cons: we got a superior canal-facing room and it was tiny. I mean tiny, even compared to Italian standards. There was no place to even put our luggage — we had to store luggage underneath the bed. Also, the layout of the room wasn’t ideal. There was a strange step/raised area in the middle of the room with a safety light on either side. The lights were so bright we had to put books in front of them in order to sleep.

Lovely Hotel in Quiet N'borhood w/some info issues

The hotel property is lovely and very well located 5-10 min walk from Accademia Bridge, 2 grocery stores: a small (but very well stocked) market and a larger supermarket, as well as to the Peggy Guggenheim museum and the Basilica Santa Maria della Salute.

The hotel was also incredibly clean -- one of the cleanest I've been in in the past 4 years!

My room was beautiful with padded, fabric-lined walls, a comfy bed, a small minibar (with drinks and some room for you to store cheese, yogurt, etc.)

There is an in-house bar onsite which also serves breakfast, although I was not aware of this until the day I checked out. I checked the Hotels.com website and sure enough, breakfast buffet (for a surcharge) and a snack/deli counter. It would have been nice to know that.

This was my main issue with my entire stay which was over 1 week: there was not any written hotel information packet in the room nor through the TV (that I could find). Even the laundry information was placed on a second tier shelf in the mini-bar closet which was 4 inches over my head and I could not see it. After asking for laundry information at the front desk, I was told it was in the room so I did a more thorough search and happened to reach up to that shelf and found the price sheet and plastic laundry bag.

I also had an issue with the room being cold on the first day and the front desk clerk insisted it was my fault that I did not set the temp right. Porter came up and found it was offOFF.

Lovely hotel with an excellent staff. Everyone was very accommodating. Good restaurants nearby even though it's not in the heart of Venice, and very convenient to the water bus at the Accademia stop. You can also get a water taxi to come right to the hotel which we should have taken advantage of when we came in on the train. The room, like many European hotel rooms, was very small. And the refrigerator wasn't working properly. But the hotel is beautiful, the area is so peaceful, and we would happily stay here again and just might! Venice turned out to be a lovely surprise for us and ended up being our favorite city we visited over our two week trip.

Lovely little hotel and even though the rooms are very standard small European style and the bathrooms were incredibly small. Everything was very nice and nicely appointed. The breakfast was delicious and the staff was very welcoming.

I actually like the location being a little bit off the beaten path so we were not in the heart of all of the tourist pedestrian traffic

were told by driver . Second time on the way back to airport, assured us the card machine worked only to get to airport and said it didn’t . Had to go to a random arm to get Euros to pay. They should really recommend another water taxi service and not utilize them for their guests.

The staff, service, cleanness was excellent. Made our stay in Venice even better. The owner is very hands on and present on site. Which my opinion makes everything more organized. My daughter left her passport in the safe and we had to retrieve it after we were already in Milan. We had to drive back to Venice. The passport and euros were there, which displays honesty. Can’t get better than that!
If you are sensitive to noise I would suggest staying on higher floor. The 2nd floor you can hear a little kitchen noise, nothing a sound soother wouldn’t take care of. This place is great, I would highly recommend.

Hotel American was about a 15 minute walk from the busy part of Venice and a welcome oasis from all the crowds. Our room was so comfortable and had a sweet balcony overlooking the canal. The breakfast buffet was a delicious way to start the day. The best part was the hotel staff; they were so attentive and helpful and made us feel so welcome. They even made dinner reservations for us before our arrival in Venice. Highly recommend this wonderful hotel!

This hotel surpassed my expectations. It was very clean, cool and comfortable. Rooms are a great size and the location is quiet yet still convenient to restaurants and sites. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and assist with any directions we needed. Breakfast is fantastic. I hope to return!

This was the perfect choice for a hotel in Venice. Quiet area but easy walk to all the popular sights. The fish restaurant next door was so good we ate there 3 nights. Hotel staff was very accommodating. Having the water taxi able to come directly to the front door was an added bonus. Included breakfast was full of amazing offerings.

Wow, what can I say to express how wonderful this hotel was? First of all it is in a great location. Quiet, yet within steps of food, shopping, and wonderful sites. Private water taxi will deliver you right to their doorstep. The staff were exceptional. Always ready to serve and with a smile. We especially enjoyed Larry and his winning personality. The room was perfect for our needs. Beds were heavenly! There was plenty of space to stretch out and relax. The bathroom was well appointed and the shower was strong and hot. We would absolutely stay here if we return to Venice. It was everything we needed and with staff that all speaks English and seems to know what Americans want in a hotel.

This property far exceeded our expectations due to the amazing location in a fairly quiet area and the staff were incredible as well. The buffet breakfast including omelette, fresh squeezed orange juice and very good coffee along with everything you could ever want for breakfast. The people who work there are very accommodating and extremely pleasant. We enjoyed the private water taxi ride to the airport and booked that while we were there. The hotel can be accessed from the public transport which is like a ferry using the #1 or 2 line from the train station. Consider a 2 day pass for as long as your stay so you can easily go to St. Mark’s square and other areas with the ferry if you had enough walking. You can get your pass near the water as soon as you get off the train. The place is a dream. All of it. Do not hesitate to stay here. We highly recommend the Viator private tour of the Basilica and Doge’s palace and ask for Sabrina. Take a private vaporetto ride. We enjoyed ours from near St. Mark’s Square near the back alleyways away from the port area. There were many things to see. I wish we could have stayed longer than the 3 days we had in Venice. If I return I will book the same hotel. We had a nice corner room -102- and a beautiful view of the side canal and a little view of the grand canal as well. This place has an elevator and the staff helps you with your bags as well. Have a fantastic time at American Dinesen Hotel :-)

Locations is great for art lovers being close to Accademia and Peggy Guggenheim Museum. Nice shops across the bridge on way to Piazza S. Marco. Also easily accessible to Dorsoduro and Santa Croze areas which are more residential and less hectic than Rialto area. Hotel was pleasant and relaxing. Kind staff were helpful too.

Propery is in a quiet locatiom yet still gives you the amazing canal views. Beeakfast is amazing, staff are incredibly helpful and everyone speaks fluent english so there are no language barriers. AC kept us nice and cool during a record heatwave.

Everything is wonderful!

Loved the location outside of the major touristy zone, but close enough to everything! Breakfast is great, complete with freshly made cappuccinos. Showers are wonderful and the wifi is strong - a great way to work from wherever!

This hotel is in a great location with a short walk to either of 2 Vaporetto stations. We enjoyed the balcony overlooking the quiet canal, and the room was a very nice size. They provided a mattress topper when we asked if something could be done to soften the mattress, which worked really well. The staff, especially Marco was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our 6 nights here and explored much of Venice by foot, which was convenient from the hotel. They had a very complete breakfast selection too.

Me & my husband stay here for 3 days with our little bambino we like the view from our bedroom , it look like the hotel is recently renovated but the only thing we did not like about our stay is how many mosquitos there is.

Everything was great. The owner Alberto was personally involved in making sure the trip was great. Larry was unbelievable when it came to customer service. Larry took the trouble to pack us breakfast to go the day we checked out early in the morning. All the staff helped with providing us input to help plan our day. The facilities were awesome. Would strongly recommend this Hotel. The actual look and feel are far better than what the pictures portray. Thx you to Larry again and to all the staff ( Elizabeth, Ronald and others)

We LOVED our stay at Hotel American Dinesen.
In a great location just 5 minutes from the Academia bridge and our superior double room had 3 small balconies overlooking the canal, with chairs to sit and chat. A well stocked minibar selection.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
The only things we would have liked would have been water and toiletries to be replaced when room serviced, and

Great service in this relatively small hotel - friendly helpful staff, excellent location and very stylish interior deco. Good room with an excellent canal view - its on quite a busy little side canal so if early morning delivery boats being unloaded opposite bother you don't go for a canal view room - we loved it ! The location alone makes it excellent. We'd read some of the previous negative reviews before we booked and confirm we saw no evidence of anything other than a first class hotel with staff that are proud to work there

Venice is a must do city , we chose thus hotel based on the area the revues etc , paid a little bit more than we would normally because of this , can't fault the room although the staff made a big thing about us getting an upgrade , like they had did this huge favour ! sorry but that's not how it works. We thought we had booked bed and breakfast , turns out it was room only and we were then asked to pay 79 euros at checkout for 2 days breakfast for 2 people , including local taxes . Again the correct thing would have been a discreet word at either reception or at the breakfast table , not the surprise at checkout , also the dirty great dark hair underneath the cheese at one of the breakfasts should have ensured at least one days gratis breakfast . I have no hair my wife is blond and the fact that it was underneath the cheese almost certainly meant it was not another guest. The 2 guys at check out assured me of a phone call from the manager that day , guess what ? still waiting

The Hotel is fabulous! We had a great time. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff are excellent and couldn't have done more for our stay there to be perfect.
I would recommend it to anyone.
The breakfast was great and the rooms are luxurious. The hotel is perfectly situated to be far enough away from the bustle of St Marks Square but walking distance to all the attractions.

Poor Room Quality. Look elsewhere

I’ll start with the positive points; the location was great, just off the beaten track, it was quiet enough to escape the tourists but close enough to the centre to see everything you’ll need to when visiting Venice. The staff were pleasant and eager to help.

On the negative side, we were given a room in the annex to the hotel which was not up to standard. It was dark (one window blocked by walls outside), it was scruffy; in serious need of refurbishment, the bathroom smelt damp, the cleaners cleaned the rooms but it is need of a full deep clean, the air con didn’t work very well; I cannot imagine how warm it would be in the summer (we went mid October), the fridge only works with the fob in meaning everything inside is warm unless you leave it a few hours.

Venice is expensive generally but I would have expected more from the hotel for the price. I would recommend checking whether you are in the main part of the hotel or the annex. The majority of pictures are for the main hotel and are very different to the annex.

Overall not a great stay. Make sure you’re in the better part of the hotel, although, I assume this would cost even more than what we paid.
