Stayed in a comfy room. It was small, but very efficient and had everything I needed for a comfortable 1 night stay for a work trip. It would have been tight for 2 people, but doable to a long weekend where you are planning outdoor activities. Overall great location and value

Hotel side of things was all pretty good. I saw some other rooms that housekeeping was in and some of these rooms a scary small. I'm glad I opted for a more expensive room so we had the extra room space. The view was great, room styling and decor was awesome. Location is about the best for the area also. I recommend a room overlooking state st or the penthouse is out of this world.

My one let down was Dusk & Dawn. They are nice but I was under the impression that they were larger and that Dusk would have a good menu for dinner. It's just drinks and snacks. Not necessarily a bad thing but something to mention. There's a lot of food places in the area and the hotel alone is worth the stay. The staff were all great and very friendly. Facilities were also clean and well kept.

Had the DRIFT Penthouse room. Aesthetically it was awesome. Could be better designed.
PROs:
- large rooms, nice layout
- beautiful deck
- as many towels as needed
- coffee/espresso maker, microwave and fridge
- 2 bathrooms
- location close to a lot of restaurants and other sights
- easy access with door codes
- liked both DAWN and DUSK downstairs
CONs:
- master bath had 6" gap between door and glass - zero privacy
- no place to put luggage or clothes except on couch (can stuff shoes or unused luggage under bed)
- can't reach some curtains without standing on couch
- no place to sit and work on computer or write anything (need to stand at kitchen island - no chairs - or sit with computer on lap)
- bathroom mirrors only have lights on 1 side - very trendy but impractical (put up a makeup mirror or add lights!)
- only 1 side of bed had bedside table
- kept running into hanging lamp on 1 side of bed (hang it higher)
-outdoor furniture is fixed/modular and faces the building wall - not the view. Put 2 chairs out there that can be moved. Along with a small table.
- music across the street is VERY loud all evening
- should be clearer how and when you get door codes and/or say there is a person there to check you in (we scrambled to get them while driving since none auto- arrived as they had said)
- very expensive for all the CONs

Shows great online but looks were deceiving… overall, great location & aesthetic but small rooms felt like a hostel right off the State Street bar. Paying nearly $500 / night for a closet-sized room, which hotel doesn’t have photos online, felt misrepresented.

PROS: great location, clean & modern vibe, friendly staff.
CONS: absolutely tiniest rooms on first floor, felt like a closet (bathroom / shower / sitting “area” / sink / bed all within 10ft room).
First floor room right off public State Street bar, can hear loud party noise throughout the night.
limited to no staff, single person (very friendly and accommodating) manning a concierge booth outside the coffee shop attached to first floor.

My wife and I got married here in September and couldn’t have been happier with the Drift! Cristina, Michael, Alecia and the whole team were so incredibly accommodating and wonderful to work with. The hotel is super stylish, with a modern, earthy, Mediterranean vibe, the rooms are cozy and the bar downstairs, Dusk, is dynamite.

We’re looking forward to coming back again and again and can’t recommend it enough to others!

Everything was great but we got a room that faced State st hoping to open the nice windows they have but they were blocked off. I totally understand the safety issues that come with windows that open like that but the pictures made it seem like we could and it would have been nice to be able to open them (even a little) and be able to hear the street noise and stuff outside. Other then that it was great and I would definitely stay again

Quirky hotel with digital check in with reception desk on the street & use PIN code instead of a key to get in room. Made the most of a small room by including a fridge & glass surround shower in middle of room, however the bed only had one way of getting in & out so not easy for couples who may have to climb over their sleeping partner. Lighting very bad for doing makeup as me & my two friends found out who were in other rooms. Friendly staff and ideal location for walking to the beach, going out for dinner and shopping.

What is so special about the Drift are the people. Everyone from folks at the coffee shop, check in team, to the GM Jacqueline are so lovely and provide excellent customer service! So completely above and beyond to make my stay wonderful!

I love the streamline design of the rooms, the yoga mat in every room, and the coffee every morning at Dawn! There are bikes and surf boards to borrow and enjoy in SB. Make sure you check out the yoga studio too!

Also, the location is perfect for exploring, especially all of the vintage shops and The Funk Zone!
I highly recommend staying at The Drift, and hope to check out their other properties.

The check-in/out is all done through text messages and very convenient and quick.

The room felt uncomfortably small for two people, with limited privacy in the bathroom area. Although the ventilation system was running, it didn’t seem to circulate the air effectively. Even with all the lights on, the room remained quite dim, contributing to a confined and gloomy atmosphere. The layout was awkward, with the wash sink positioned unusually close to the bed — it felt more like a converted bathroom than a proper guest room. At times, the space felt so claustrophobic that I had to leave the room just to get some relief.

I found Drift on Design Hotel's website. They never disappoint. Location is great but you'll have to be okay with some noise if you're there towards the end of the week/weekends.

We had a number of SB options and I chose Drift based on the aesthetic which does not disappoint. Unfortunately the views and size are quite significantly different than the pictures.

It is my responsibility to check sq footage. I did not. The views etc are sadly not as represented and linens, towels were in very rough shape, frayed and worn, etc. On the other hand, staff was extraordinary and would have done anything in their power to help. Would definitely encourage the team to return to coffee in the room. Doesn’t make for a relaxing stay when you need to dress to coffee. For the price and excellent staff, some things are not meeting the level they should.

If you are looking for a location on State Street, then it's worth taking a look at this property but rooms are very dark, cold, and small. The bed /pillows uncomfortable, no parking, no place to put your suitcase, no closet. It was clean. But you have to request maid service via text if you need towels or trash removed etc.

The property is pretty new, since 2022! I loved the style and design of the property. It smelled fresh the minute you stepped into the hallways going up towards your room. I liked that they had a cafe and bar downstairs that was picturesque. It’s right in State St. so everything from the Pier to the shopping centers were a few feet away. Check in was very easy, I did everything virtual.
When we got there there was a staff to assist with things in case we needed it but we were able to get our key code and walk in without room keys. I wish all hotels were this easy! Incidentals cost $100 for 2 nights. Probably $50 a night.

I would totally go back! If I had to say one thing I would’ve wanted improved… it would probably be the dust. I wish they dusted parts of the room better, especially the wood on the walls. The windows picked up dust easily. I was sneezing away a lot but other than that… the room itself was nice and “cozy”.

The lack of dedicated lobby was disappointing. This was a VERY expensive hotel to be treated by the staff like we were bothersome.

This hotel has a great location, with easy walk to the beach, the Funk Zone and State Street restaurants and shops. But there is no front desk, or true hotel staff, you just get an access code to the hotel and room and overnight parking is a block away, But the biggest shock is the tiny, I mean tiny size of the room. There is no room to put your luggage. There is a separate toilet and shower, but no real bathroom with a counter and a sink. There is a standalone sink but it is right next to the bed. And the bed is not only small but up against a wall so you are climbing over your partner to get up at night. Big pass on this place,

Overall, Drift had some pros and cons. Location is very good, walkable to a ton and right on state st. The vibe of the hotel is way different than the pictures represent. The biggest shock was how small the rooms are vs. the images on the booking site. If you don’t read the fine print, you wouldn’t know there is no where to store your clothes, assuming you booked a more economical option. Even the larger rooms don’t have much of a closet. On top of being so much smaller than expected, many of the bottom floor rooms are super dark and give off a cold atmosphere. There is so much noise on the bottom floor, they provide ear plugs in every room. The bar and coffee shop within the bottom floor have great food, drinks and staff. If you’re traveling light, and like a black / cement feel, this is the hotel for you. The service level is minimal as they provide you a key code to get in the building and your room so there is no front desk but a help line you can text for any issues or needs.

The check-in and text communication process was very convenient. I used to live in Santa Barbara and was pleasantly surprised to find out this property had been renovated. Also, a good stretch of State Street has been converted into a walking street, and this hotel is conveniently right in the middle of that section. True to the reviews, the room was very small, But, in a town where I would be spending most of my time outdoors, this was perfect. I always feel it’s such a waste to have a large room only to sleep and shower in it for one night. The staff were all extremely courteous and friendly, and text responses to questions and room requests were immediate. I would stay here again.

Our recent stay at the Drift Hotel in Santa Barbara was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. The ambiance of the hotel is modern yet cozy, with beautifully designed interiors that reflect the laid-back yet sophisticated vibe of Santa Barbara.

The room was immaculate and very my husband and I'd aesthetic. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep, and the amenities provided were top-notch. We especially loved the luxurious bath products and body lotion!

The hotel's location is perfect, close to some of the best dining and shopping spots in the area. We enjoyed exploring the charming neighborhoods and scenic coastline.

One of the highlights of our stay was the delightful dawn cafe and dusk bar. The staff was attentive and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed via text which is what they do and the staff onsite was amazing! It’s clear that the Drift Hotel cares about both their guests.

Overall, my husband and I's experience at the Drift Hotel was unforgettable. The combination of excellent service, beautiful accommodations, and prime location makes it the perfect place to stay in Santa Barbara. We can't wait to return and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional hotel experience!

This hotel is gorgeous!!! Super comfy beds, can’t beat the location right on the part of state street that is closed to thru traffic. We had a bunk room, the only drawback was that the window is small and frosted but we were only in the room at night so it was fine. Super friendly staff. The only thing that we think could be changed was the runs of the ladder to the top bunk- they hurt your feet and you had to wear shoes

But the biggest issue was the noise. While the hotel can’t control the surrounding businesses, the proximity to bars that will blast music until 2am every night make this hotel miserable to stay at.

Its very important to know the rooms are extremely small, not housekeeping services, no desk,charis in room, closet, and you cannot walk around the bed. There was absolutely no service at this property. Everything was done by texting, it’s very impersonal. My room in particular was a dungeon like with a very small window close to the ceiling and the sink was near the bed away from the toilet. The light was dim, and had no place to put a suitcase. One pendant light was hung so low that I keep hitting it. The room picture that is shown on Expedia site doesn’t represent the actual room.
