Check in was weird. Person was not particularly welcoming. Did not explain much- room across the street but no directions given- so had to walk back. Listed as another motel, front desk did not explain anything-street parking. Room was large kitchen with no coffee machine. Could not get hot water in the shower after running water for 5 minutes.

We stayed in a room for 4–6 people and overall it was a great option for a group. The room was spacious, had a partial ocean view, a full kitchen, easy check-in, and the location was very convenient and close to everything.

One downside was the hidden fees. The price shown is not the final price, and although the total was still affordable, you don’t know the final amount until after checkout when they bill you, which we didn’t love.

As you can see in the pictures, this is not a 5-star hotel. The furniture and fixtures aren’t new, but they were nice enough, well organized, clean, and comfortable for a group stay.

We didn’t use the other amenities or go to breakfast, but the breakfast area (like the waffle makers) looked old and didn’t seem very hygienic. The interior of the hotel feels a bit like an antique store, so keep in mind it’s not going to feel modern or spotless.

The Villa Rosa Inn canceled my reservation because they said the price I got it at was too low (as if that were my fault) and that they were trying to update their Expedia account to increase the price for one night. Can you imagine the mess if all hotels acted this way whenever we booked a room at a good discount that the hotel itself advertised? Just insane.

The hotel was located in a great place but that’s the best part of this review.
Unfortunately, when we arrived at 3pm (as directed) the hotel was under staff with only one person and a line ten groups deep. Rooms were not ready and not enough staff to service the line of guests. The reception area was cluttered with so much random stuff that there wasn’t much seating or standing area. There was an aquarium with dead fish and a lot eclectic furniture. The interior is dark and dingy with reflections of the haunted mansion. The staffing did their best to check everyone in, be we didn’t get our room till 6:30pm. The room was clean but not really comfortable. There so much that needs be updated just to bring the hotel into the 2000s. I couldn’t recommend this unless you are in a pinch. It was definitely a disappointment.

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at this Inn. The rooms felt very neglected and poorly maintained, and the property overall looks old and worn. The bathroom had visible mold on the walls, which is unacceptable and concerning from a health standpoint.

Noise was a constant issue. There was very loud noise coming from neighboring rooms and from above, especially whenever someone used the shower. The pipes made an extremely loud noise for the entire duration of the water running, making it difficult to rest or sleep.

Front desk service was also lacking. After 6 PM, there was no staff available—only a note instructing guests to call a number. I tried calling and left messages, but no one ever answered or returned the calls.

Although the Inn advertises free breakfast, the quality was very poor. The food selection was bad, and on one occasion there was so much smoke coming from the waffle station that it felt like a fire was about to start, which was alarming.
I stayed for three nights, and during that time there was no room service at all. Trash was never collected, and the room was not attended to in any way.

Overall, this stay did not come close to justifying the amount of money charged. The lack of maintenance, service, cleanliness, and responsiveness made this a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this Inn based on my stay.

We weren’t able to check in until 6:30. The room wasn’t available and the poor staff was unsupported. There was only one person available to check everyone in at 3pm when we were told to come. There was a line 10 people deep.
The hotel has the most eclectic and weirdest interiors. There isn’t enough parking for guests, and rental bikes as listed in on site. Have low expectations and it’s a place to lay your head, then you’re fine. The location is great but I can’t say much more.

Room was dirty. Toilet door donot have a lock. Toilet paper holder was missing. Need to carry the toilet roll in your end. Shower area is 2 ft away from the bed and is part of the room with no separate bathroom. Hotel has only about 10 parking slots for 40+ rooms. Breakfast option is very less and unhealthy. Waffle machine is so dirty that you will not feel good to make a waffle. In short, do not book & stay at this hotel

We stayed at the multi-bed cottage with a full kitchen for 2 nights, one night being Thanksgiving night. We packed dinner thinking restaurants might be closed and meant to take advantage of the kitchen. Upon arrival, the floor looked like it was not swept so we were already having low expectations for the rest of the room. It was clean for the most part but the toilet seat needed to be replaced (stains and loose bolt) and one of the couches smelled like a wet towel if you sat in it. In their defense, this was a pet friendly hotel so we didn’t expect it to be luxurious.

One other complaint was the lack of things in the kitchen. There were no cups, just 2 mugs that were different. I think 1 small pot and a bunch of lids to missing pots/pans. The couple dish-ware they provided did not match, and the dish drying rack was gross. Luckily we had packed some disposable plates and utensils to avoid doing dishes. The staff was very friendly though and provided everything we asked for. We were concerned about how cold the room was and they provided a portable heater for the bathroom since the heating units were on the opposite side of the room.

The lobby and room for breakfast could use a deep cleaning too but the furniture/decor added to the hotel’s charm. Also note, I peaked into another window of a vacant room in the main building, and that room looked a lot nicer. Maybe just the cottages are not better kept.

The bed had hairs everywhere like it wasn’t properly washed, the bath tub was filthy.. had dried leaves and dirt inside it, there was toilet paper in the toilet like someone didn’t clean it or flush, mirror had white toothpaste specks, and the breakfast waffle machine wasn’t cleaned so black burnt pieces kept falling off onto the waffle.

Where to begin... First, shown to a room that wasn't ready and told we would get texted when it was. An hour and a half later, still no text and a family entering the room we'd been shown. When we returned to the front desk, found out they had taken us to the WRONG ROOM and our room was not only a completely different building, but a different property -- The Ala Mar Motel instead of the Villa Rosa Inn. Room had a large TV but no remote to operate it. Housekeeping left cleaning supplies in the room (dustpan, broom, spray bottle). The top bathroom door hinge is separating from the frame so you have to LIFT the door to shut it. And bathroom fixture only had a single bulb (of three) working. Exposed wiring in the ceiling from, presumably, an old light fixture that had been removed. Front desk accommodated a noon checkout (instead of 11), but housekeeping knocked at 10:30am and asked \"Are you leaving?\"

La chambre 5 était spacieuse et relativement propre, la literie de bonne qualité mais le service laissait à désirer surtout pour le petit dejeuner inclus. Pas de tapis de bain, pas de gel douche ni shampoing mis à disposition. Il a fallu demander à l'accueil pour avoir des serviettes pour la piscine (eau froide) /jacuzzi (eau chaude mais carrelage abimé et jets très légers). Au petit déjeuner à 8h30 il n'y avait plus de lait,plus de jus, plus de pain...aucun beurre ni confiture. Il a fallu attendre un moment avant que quelqu'un s'en aperçoive et mette un bon quart d'heure pour remettre un tout petit peu de quoi manger/boire. Espace repas très mal pensé niveau circulation, beaucoup de monde dans un espace restreint. Pas de parking extérieur de l'hotel disponible mais heureusement en semaine,aucun soucis pour se garer dans la rue juste à coté. Rapport qualité- prix sans doute ok pour Santa Barbara, juste en face de l'ocean, mais à refaire, j'irais ailleurs

The Villa Rosa is an absolute GEM of a property. The location couldn’t be better (right on the beach), the decor and appurtenances are unique and beautiful, breakfast, wine happy hour, clean and comfortable rooms, pool, jacuzzi, and walking distance from everything “Santa Barbara”. This is a property you will travel to again and again.

Staff are all outstanding, and Melody at the front desk is super helpful, knowledgeable and professional.

This is a property with so much charm, you may never leave! We’ll be back again!

Super cute unique boutique Hotel. A little bit it reminds me of staying at a miniature Hearst castle , With the way that is decorated and all the big cushy chairs when you check in. They have a Simple and delicious wine and cheese hour. And lots of little nooks and Crownies to sit around the pool with water fountains going.

The room we got was pretty large and had a full-size refrigerator. I believe it was the king cottage. Really comfy bed And it had a full size fridge and little dishes for us to put out food in . We ordered pizza and got wine and Put it inside of the little wine goblets they had in the room.

The check in was easy. The lady was very busy, but she let us know that we could have some wine and cheese and she would come get us as soon as she had a minute. Less than 10 minutes, but we were really enjoying ourselves.

The staff was extremely kind and helpful. We came to celebrate a landmark birthday and we were not disappointed. The room was very clean an spacious, heater and AC. The old school plumbing was a challenge but as a California native, its common for the older buildings; definitely didnt take away from the beauty or experience. Almost everythis is walking distance feom the room; Jeannine's was like a 5 minutes walk and the food was quick and yummy. Tons of food places within a 5-10 minute walk anywhere; very quaint and quiet, fabulous view of the mountains and ocean... i would definitely recommend this for either a quick qet away or for a honeymoon. The decor was very unique, cozy and lovely Spanish style floors.

Hot tub with broken tiles, pool was dirty There was no one at the front desk for an entire day, so when guests needed pool towels or to check out or any assistance there was no one to ask. This is a lovely, quaint property that is in an excellent location. It is one block from the beach, and one block from the pier (State Street). We did not need our vehicle the entire time we were there due to the walkability of the property. The rooms are large (which is nice because we brought bikes) with a kitchenette and separate bedroom. The rooms are dated but clean. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet. I only had two complaints of the room: the air conditioner did not work very well (and is was an unusually hot weekend). The AC is is in the living room so no air really makes it to the bedroom and the AC simply did not work well. Secondly, there are security lights all over the property (which is nice for safety), but they shine in the room and it's difficult to get the curtains to fully block it. Overall, this was a nice room and the location is so superb I would definitely stay here again.

I booked a room at the last minute for a getaway with my 5 year old daughter. The hotel is in a good location in an aging building like a lot of Santa Barbara hotels. It is part of the SB charm. The bed was comfortable and spacious. The shower desperately needs updating. The sink was a cute glass leaf bowl but was slow to drain. Pool was cold. Hot tub was HOT! Breakfast consisted of pastries with waffle irons out as a nice touch. The disappointment came after check out. The total paid to Hotels.com included room rate, property fee, and tax. Unfortunately, 3 days after check out, I see a charge for an amount similar to the property tax plus tax directly from the hotel. I called the hotel to resolve the matter. At first, they said it is the property fee. I said I aready paid that through Hotels.com and the receptionist agreed. The manager is not on-site and was not reachable all Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend to resolve the matter. I am still waiting to hear back on a refund. This is not acceptable. On top of this, housekeeping did not clean our room during our 2 night stay even with our \"Please Make Up Room\" sign on the door by 10:30am.

We had time consuming troubled check in which set a bad mood for my hungry family. The happy hour they offered at this time had some ritz crackers and cheese that helped some. Really bad wine which turned me off. Walking into unit the first thing we saw was a big dirty spot on the couch. The dirt passage way to get to alley for our car was a dumping zone of old funky decor no longer wanted.
I had a great night sleep and woke up to a lovely soak in the hot tub and dip in the pool. They had burnt coffee with coffee mate, cookies, waffles, cereal for for breakfast spread. I loved the funky decor. My husband had trouble sleeping due to the loud neighbors at 1am. The property also does month to month rentals.

Dirty moldy rooms, fully of dust mites. Woke up covered in bites and a rash. Leaking fridge, water all over the floor. No staff available onsite to address the issues. Still No response via text or email from management. Its a cute place, but not worth the price or the headache. Breakfast offering barely edible, waffle iron was caked in burnt grease.

Big mistake booking here.

quirky little piece of paradise near the beach

It was quirky, cute, perfect location, and the front desk lady was my favorite. Absolutely everything that we look for in a stay at the beach. If you're coming to santa barbara for the weekend, this is the obvious choice!

Check in was fast. Happy hour snacks and free wine with charcuterie. How fun is the pool with statues, free to borrow pool toys and screaming hot jacuzzi!? Love it here!

There are not supposed to be any hidden fees but I had to pay a $33 administration fee at check in. There is no parking onsite, so you have to park at one of the neighboring hotels. And the rooms have no A/C. Staff was fine. when you can find them and everything is in walking distance. The wharf and State St are a block away, so there's a positive.Watch where you are walking. People dont clean up after their dogs pooping on the sidewalks and in the street and everywhere else.

This is a fantastic place, and I can hardly wait to return with friends and family. Everything and everyone exceded my expectations. I have stayed in many hotels in Santa Barbara, but now this is my absolute favorite. The oweners really created a unique place with treasures and history in abundance.

Love the location, price, and the friendly, helpful staff.
The pool and spa were great. The room was very comfortable. The only downside was that the floors in the room could have used a good mopping.
Other than that, I would definitely stay again and would recommend it to friends. Thanks for a great experience!

Parking is first-come-first-serve and they only have maybe 8 spaces near the building and then another 15 at their sister motel next door. Was very tricky to snag a spot. Street parking is free but has a 90 minute max on weekends.

We stayed for three nights and they never cleaned the room. Not the biggest deal but it wasn't clear that that was their policy.

Each room has a balcony or porch attached to it -- generally pretty pleasant but we could tell they don't get cleaned often, there were crumbs on the ledge and floor and cobwebs in the corners.

The breakfast was just okay. There were a lot of options and it was well-stocked, but the croissants were stale and we're pretty sure the orange juice was just Tang.

Beds were comfortable but squeaky.

Great location though! Right near Stearns Wharf. Easy to walk to most things we wanted to do.

Overall it's an older building with a lot of character and charm but I wouldn't stay there again. Didn't seem particularly well kept up.

There was also a display case of creepy porcelain dolls in the lobby that I could have done without.
