Great location. Staff very polite . Room was very big . Bathroom and beds very clean but the rest of the room was quite dusty . Bathroom very small , if like me a bit on the larger size it would be a struggle . View was awful . Never the less it was a pleasant stay.

I contacted the hotel and Expedia prior 1 week in advance due to recent bed bug reports, and they both refused a refund. Expedia will not speak on when the property was last assessed, and have not taken any action or requested further assessment in light of any of the reviews regarding infestation or mould or general uncleanliness. Expedia confirmed they have had confirmation from Quentin that the issues were resolved, and assured me it was safe and clean to stay in. I arrived on 14th Feb. There was hair in the bed. Mold in the bathroom. Paint peeling off the walls and windows. Dust everywhere. Rust everywhere. Light switch fell off the wall when I switched it on. No availability else where in other hotels so had to stay 1 night. Immediately checked out early the next morning to relocate somewhere else. Front desk refused to issue a refund and told me to “email”. No accountability from the hotel. No accountability from Expedia. Expedia should be ashamed of themselves for not doing independent assessments on the properties they advertise as an agent, especially when they are absolutely disgusting.

The hotel and room need some TLC. We had no body wash for over a day, even after repeated asking. The toilet ran frequently and was quite loud. Lots of things broken off the walls in the bathroom, so they could use maintenance.

Besides that, the area was nice. Stairs are rough, but it’s Amsterdam…

This is a great option if you want a view of the canals but don’t necessarily need a lot of space. Spent very time in the room but was great. Conveniently located near the tram stop’s and restaurant’s and shopping is a short walk across the street is any direction. Great affordable find!

Room was dasty and there was some stains on pillowcase and towels.
I understand the size of the room as is specified on the website when you book the room, but the bathroom is something else. If you had shower you can not really acces the toilet as all floor is wet. Also there is quite a bit of mould on the grout between the tiles.
Overnight you can hear lots of wired noises and I preasume is water pipes.
Generally not recommended this place unless you not bothered of the look and cleanliness of the place.
The only good point of this place is that is central and close to most of the attractions.

Old, Tiny but comfortable!

This Hotel had a great location to tour around, walking the old Downtown area of Amsterdam. Being from Canada I'm not quite used to the small rooms, and the tiny elevator etc., but I was grateful that I was in the other building from my friends who were in the main building, and NO ACCESS to an elevator. The stairs are so very tiny and steep, making it difficult to get luggage up the stairs, for older people (like me). But I did have an elevator, so I was grateful!
The staff were very friendly and helpful to fix any problem that we had. A plugin was not working on my side of the bed, and they fixed it when I mentioned it. The beds were very comfortable with had nice covers. The room had a kettle, fan, iron, blowdryer and a nice shower. Overall our stay was great, but I'm thankful that i did mnot have to do the stairs like my friends!

The room really need a face-lift. The shower tiles had bad black mold that needs to be cleaned. The room was very small, good thing i was alone, two people with larger luggage would have been challenged to find a place to put it. Room condition was clean but shabby, for the price expected better condition.

This was a last minute booking when I was stuck in Amsterdam unexpectedly while traveling.

It was the perfect location to reach the metro, the bus, and walkable to the Jordaan neighborhood as well as The Nines.

The host was very friendly and accommodating. Please note when they say their stairs are Amsterdam stairs, they mean it. If you’re not an elevator person, be prepared for the narrow flights and trekking your luggage.

The rooms are small, but cute. The facility was clean, just dusty in certain areas.

Overall I would absolutely stay again.

An old favorite, in the heart of Amsterdam. Charming rooms at a good price. Don't expect a flashy four star hotel. This place has much more authentic atmosphere than any corporate facade. Book early, rooms go fast.
Update: 8 years later, I still love the Quentin! This trip is definitely worth an update. The rooms are all updated, but the charm is still here! I booked a room for a week, but on the first day, the elevator broke (Things happen. It isn't their fault). Because of my disability, I would have been stuck in the lobby for a lot of my trip. The staff went above and beyond to move me to a more accessible room on the first floor! I am overwhelmed by their hospitality.

Worst Hotel Ever!

I really don't know what to say other than this was the worst hotel I have ever been to in my whole life. I am most definitely not joking as I have been to 27 countries and this was a very tragic and disgusting experience. Especially for anyone that has any type of health related conditions such as joint problems, inflammatory or autoimmune conditions especially arthritis due to the hotel having up to 4 floors and no lifts at all. The hotel has very small & shockingly high & steep staircases which is extremely dangerous and a huge health, safety and wellbeing matter. If this hotel was in London in the UK, then I can definitely guarantee you this hotel would have been shut down. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone regardless of age, colour, background or social/financial status. Hopefully no one books this hotel and I will try to get some type of refund back soon as it was a really bad experience with less than one hour sleep overnight. The mattress was extremely soft and the pillows were cushions and not the regular bed/sleeping pillows. The toilet was very small and cramped and the sink is even more smaller! The curtains were dirty and the step on the main room door is dangerous. To enter the hotels main front reception door, you have to climb scary steep staircase made of concrete carrying your luggage which is very dangerous and more tolerated! Absolutely mortified and gutted, nasty foul experience! Room telephone was not working, this hotel is a real HAZARD! GUTTED!!!

Something that you absolutely must know before staying here is that there are NO LIFT/ELEVATORs on the premises, and the staircases are very old-style and steep.

My bed sat crooked and required me to sleep at an angle if I wanted no back pain in the morning.

The shower drain smelled of sewage untilI ran the shower.

Pros:
The staff were very polite and helpful.

You are centrally located and can easily walk to great food, convenience stores, museums, and many other sites

Fire alarms from hell

I’ve never written a review for anything in my life, but our stay was so horrific I feel the need to warn others. The stairs are a disaster waiting to happen, the room was awfully dusty, the phone didn’t work, the water temp is either freezing or scolding hot, and the room information (like WiFi) hadn’t been updated and was incorrect. The first night we had to kill a giant beetle that was flying around the room. The fire alarms also went off at 4 am, and 8 am, which happened to be the most terrifying sound I’ve ever heard in my life, and I woke up actually screaming in fear. Turns out the room next to us was smoking, and we heard them get a lousy warning to stop, instead of getting kicked out. We talked to the front desk to ask if we could get any sort of refund and find another hotel because we were so frustrated at this point and absolutely terrified to sleep there the rest of the trip after the fire alarms went off. But no, all we got from the front desk was a “really you should just be grateful that the fire alarms are working”. We didn’t even get an apology of any sort. Like yes I’m so grateful that you’re stating your up to bare minimum code. So so grateful. 😒 And getting a hold of anyone on the hotels app is a nightmare. I HIGHLY recommend you spend an extra $50 to stay literally anywhere else.

The pipes backed up and caused the whole room to smell and sewage water in our shower, we complained before going for food they said they would fix it, we came back an hour later still hadn’t been sorted and it was even worse, we then complained again and he said he would do it within the next 20mins, we went to our event came back 3hrs later and nothing had been done and then we complained again which eventually they said they would move us to their sister hotel, which was ten times smaller harder access and our key cards didn’t work, overall terrible stay with Quinetin hotel

Hotel Quentin was in a good location for walking. There are small steep steps to the entrance of the hotel and steep narrow winding steps to a lot of the rooms. There is no lift. The shower was integral to the toilet which made the tiled floor slippery. Rooms in need of an upgrade but sheets and bedding good. Staff were helpful.

The staff were great. There is no reference to the lack of lift to any floors or the steepness of the stairs, anyone with mobility issues would not have made it into reception never mind the rooms. No air conditioning and the window in our room stayed open with a piece of wood jammed in and only opened partially. The room was clean and small. Very good location although noisy.

The hotel is very old/dated and in desperate need of a refurb. Entry is up a very step and narrow staircase and there is no lift. The stairs to the rooms are equally steep and narrow and a challenge with suitcases.
The room was tiny, dingy and the shower couldnt maintain any temperature.
If all you want is a base to sleep and shower its ok, if you want to spend time in your room I'd stay elsewhere, especially if you find stairs an issue.

The bus instructions sent out by the hotel were a life saver and saved so much money. Only downside was the construction outside the building which started at 7am. Would totally stay here again though!

My mum and I visited Quentin hotel a couple of days ago. We got checked in and went to our room, it wasn’t until midnight we went to bed and noticed bedbugs! We went to reception right way with pictures of them. The staff were really helpful and was apologetic, they gave us a bigger room with a canal view in return. This room was so much better than the first. The overall experience of the hotel was pleasant for the few days I was there. We didn’t experience breakfast due to it being extra 17euro each a day!

Absolutely hopeless service, disorganised.

- Didn't respond to enquiries via website. They could have sorted out a change to the booking in advance, but because they ignored my message I had to waste time at the front desk. Read your messages while you're sitting at the front desk doing nothing!
- Refused to let me have breakfast before 8am (not very helpful when I need to leave for work before 8am). I only found out about this in the morning, was not shown on the booking. There was space in the restaurant, they just didn't let me eat because they were too busy cleaning and didn't want to organise the payment for the meal (and insisted that it should be paid in advance).
- Staff were unhelpful, the person I was dealing with dropped me like a sack of garbage and left for the day (end of shift) as soon as their colleague arrived to take over (start of next shift), so I had to explain my request to two separate people.

Perfect area to stay in but the building itself is old, so keep that in mind. If you have a large suitcase or alot of luggage, I would not recommend as there is no elevator and you will need to climb very narrow very steep steps. I stayed on the 4th floor and have to haul up my 30lb suitcase. Bringing it down was even worse. Oh and keep in mind the sink is very small, so you’ll get water everywhere when washing your face. Aside from that the unit was fairly clean, easy check in/out and in a fantastic area.

I had read some reviews on this property ahead of our trip, but most of the complaints were about the steep stairs. That’s just Amsterdam, I thought, so I booked it anyway. This hotel is a disaster. Black mold in the bathroom. Broken shower. Dirty cups on the table. Remnants of the previous guest. The only positive is the location; very central and accessible.

Overall enjoyed our stay. In true Amsterdam fashion, the stairs going up to the rooms are very steep and narrow. No lift available. Be warned! Breakfast is a nice spread for the price. Room ans bathroom was pretty clean. Under the beds was a little dusty, but everything else was okay. Of note, the hotel is under construction. You may hear hammering starting at 0830-0900. The staff was very nice and helpful with transportation and restaurant recommendations. Multiple tram stops down the block, which is convenient.

The location of the property is really good. The staff were pleasant & helpful.
We stayed on the 4th floor. The stairs are very narrow and steep! this is common in Amsterdam and it isn't a reason not to book the hotel. They are steep though!
We didn't have the breakfast, but this looked OK, a bit expensive for what you get though and there are a lot of other options that are close to the hotel.
We hired some bikes, these were reasonably priced.

Worst room I’ve ever stayed in (room 1319). The location is amazing and would choose this room over one further out for convenience as most attractions are easily walkable. Top floor of building with no working lift and the narrowest, steepest stairs so very difficult and unsafe getting bags up and down. Poor room condition, broken mirror, stained mattress and hole in the wall. Had to stuff window with tissue to stop draft from banging it open and shut. Paper thin walls. Main hotel appears lovely however the side building we were in was very very poor and run down. Staff are lovely however.

I took off one star because I paid extra for the breakfast and the breakfast was not great. I would recommend saving to €15 for breakfast and it’s going to be close by cafes.

I was skeptical after reading so many negative reviews, so was delightfully surprised. The staff was super friendly and when they saw I was staying several nights, they upgraded me to a canal-view room. I LOVED having the tiny balcony with French doors to get fresh air. The bed and down blanket were SO comfortable. I walked and did activities for 9-10 hours every day, and I was always glad to come “home” to the Quentin! Also, fabulous location for activities, museums and easy access to the tram.

The area of the hotel is a 10 but the rest didnt compensate for the conditions. I have been to many countires I know general standard of their hotels this was a different ball game. Our room was basement level so the windows opened to feet level. The constant noise from the street and cars meant you couldn't keep the windows open which turned it into a hot box. The dutch stairs made it into a death trap for older person we were traveling with. There was a side door entrance that didnt work. The door jam looked like it had been broken into and never repaired so the door did not close or lock properly. I dont mind a basic hotel for a good area but look else where if that is your goal.
Expedia was terrefic with helping with a refund as we stayed only one night and moved hotels. I recommend the hotel jupiter just a few blocks away.

I saw the reviews that said the rooms were super small and that the stairs were steep, no elevator, etc. As a \"hotel snob\" myself, I thought that this hotel was perfectly fine for being a place to sleep, get ready, etc. For the people complaining about the room size, you shouldn't be spending that much time in the room to be bothered by it! The stairs were definitely steep, so that is something to keep in mind depending on the age of the traveller as it wasn't a problem for me but could be a problem for someone older. Overall, a good location and overall place for a little trip to Amsterdam.

Stayed for two nights. Couple who were there to explore and not necessarily be in hotel, the room was perfect. Very small room with basic amenities but comfortable bed and modern bathroom.
We only had hand luggage so was okay but no life and very narrow stairs so had to carry luggage up 3 floors

I’m partly disabled can’t climb staircase to hotel office from street entrance. The room was very cold all night, cold air comes thru window, bed next to window, price outrageous for very small room, Very small, Don’t stay here you will be very uncomfortable.

If the other hotels in Amsterdam are like this one, then it's easy to understand why the city has such a vibrant night life - anything rather than go back to your room.

It will be a long time before I forget the look on my wife's face as we opened the door, although the descent into the basement via a flight of narrow, near-vertical stairs should have warned me.

If you like a bed jammed between three walls, where you have to climb over your partner and along a ledge every time, to get in and out; space for just one person between the bed and the school desk (no table); a tiny stool to sit on (no room for a chair); and a window you can only peer out of in the hope of a glimpse of sky, then look no further.

On the plus side, it was clean and the staff were helpful - but that's it. As my wife said, the best thing about this hotel was leaving it. Never again!

For £250 a night I don’t expect luxury but do expect a proper bed. The bed was awful with a dip in the middle and we couldn’t really sleep well. Also the towels were old. Despite us having paid for the room the hotel had no record of our reservation at first. The manageres was lovely though.

Good location! Easy to get to from airport. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. Fairly quiet neighborhood. Very comfy beds! Spacious rooms. Very helpful staff. Only inconvenience was no elevator and very steep stairways!

A old hotel with no lift

For a 3-people room charged over GBP400 a night, it is very small and the room look a bit rundown & dirty with junks like 2 electrical fans in wardrobe, the shower drainage is a bit clogged. The hotel has no lifts and the stairs are so narrow and steep which I needed carry my heavy luggages to the 4th floor. The only good thing in room is the radiator working well. The choices in breakfast are very limited.

The location is good with tram & bus within 5 ~ 8 minutes walk.

I really enjoyed the Quentin! The location is excellent and the staff were extremely friendly. The stairs were steep, but I got my exercise! I would gladly stay here again if i find myself in Amsterdam again.
