this property is unique part Of Belgian history. they have done a wonderful job, turning the once jail into a comfy and stylish hotel. Surrounding area is lovely for walking. An easy train ride into the middle of Brussels. We would stay we are in the area

Wierd place... looks decent from the photos but honestly the photos are very flattering! It's an old prison and it feels like it too... think 'UK Travelodge' and you wont be far off. Won't be staying here again unless I have no other choice.

Over all not bad place to stay but for 100 per cent not for kids, very disappointed for lunch and dinner as with kids would be great to have service to have some lunches and dinner on this same place. Some of the staff member has very little communications with English, would be great to have some of them .

No staff no way of getting a hot chocolate drink when we came back
Night watchmsbd was vacuuming the reception and said no hot drinks available.

Converted from an old prison and the location where William Tyndale was executed. The room was large and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices. We did not use the bar but it was open all day. There are small fridges in the rooms with complimentary water. The adjacent car park only costs 0.60 per hour from 09.00 until 19.00 with no charge on Sundays.

Close, reasonable, comfortable.

Close to the Tyndale museum and other things we were there to see.
First room we were given had no air conditioning and it was warm. They changed graciously put us in another room that had air conditionering and it was much better. The first room felt like a prison with the pictures on the wall. Rooms were on the small side. Both nights of our stay the internet cut out around 9 pm - they said everyone uses the same wifi, and it was not adequate for the users.
Had small refrigerator.

Nothing but fantastic, in every sense

I stayed at the Vilvoorde Lodge for two nights and I must say it was fantastic.
The hotel is set in a historical building and has a nice \"industrial\" touch to it. The room was super nice (see pictures), bright and full of light. The bed was excellent. Wifi allows for Skype video calls and TV has lots of channels in different languages.

Breakfast is really nice and its buffet so definitively worth it. They only serve breakfast, but there is a bar open until late and you can easily walk to the centre to go to a restaurant or get Domino’s pizza delivered.

I asked for a special early check-in as I needed to get ready for an appointment and it was not an issue. I had to print papers; it was not an issue either... Needed a cable for my laptop, needed a cab, needed another cab... you know how this goes... I was annoying and full of specific needs and they were super nice and able to help with everything.

Regarding location, its close enough to the train station that you can walk with luggage, and there is a nice little park around the corner if you are in the mood for a walk or a short jog. There's also an Aldi (supermarket) about 3 blocks away. Really convenient.

Overall, I recommend this hotel 100%, there was really not a thing I didn't like. It's fantastic.

Don't try to check in before the official check-in

Overall, nice place to stay and lots of walking opportunities around. Nice service, great breakfast (included). First contact was very disappointing. I showed up at 1 PM to check in while officially you can do so as of 2 PM. I was not allowed to and that's a first for me. As if all the rooms still needed to be cleaned between 1 and 2 PM, seriously?

Interesting old building rehab, well done. Lobby gorgeous. Room large and comfortable with beautiful window. Parking covenient and cheap at 6 euros/day. Only negative was dark hallways with only motion detector lights--hotel should invest in corridor lighting.

This hotel is a short drive from Brussels airport approx 10-15 min by car-no shuttle. It is an historic property that has been renovated to modern standards. The room was modern and well appointed. There is a bar downstairs but no restaurant however there are a number of local places within walking distance.The WIFI was sound and easy to log on.

Nice Hotel. Not so much the neighborhood.

I went for 4 days. It was my first time in Brussels. I was a bit surprised that in the airport none of the taxi drivers knew about this hotel. On they way, I noticed it wasn't a top neighborhood (my fault for not doing the proper research). The hotel however is in great conditions. It is some sort of historical building. Rooms are nice with particular painting on the back wall. Bathrooms are immaculate and modern. There is no restaurant in the hotel (just a bar) so keep that in mind. Breakfast is fine. Staff were quite friendly. There is a nice restaurant just next to the hotel and some other (a bit less elegant) about 10 mins walk. I might say that a couple of nights were hot and I didn't see any air conditioning or fan.

Would I go back? Yes sure (if business). If I was visiting I would look at hotels near Brussels Central.

Not a good airport hotel

I had a layover at the airport between 11pm and 10am, so I just needed somewhere to stay the night. I thought this looked looked like it had more character than the airport Sheraton and it was close to the airport.

When the taxi driver finally found it and dropped me off, the whole place was dark and locked up. I found the entrance and spent 5-10 minutes knocking and pushing bells before anyone came to help. He checked me in and unlocked a door to the elevators. I found the room, but couldn't work out how to turn the lights on. I thought there was probably a trick but I couldn't figure it out. So I went down to ask for help. But I couldn't find ANYONE at all. The door through to the reception area was locked again and knocking on it had no effect. (By now it was after midnight) I tried calling reception, tried going down again, spent more time looking for the lights and finally figured out that just the corner of the room key had to be pushed into a box on the wall by the door. Very frustrating.

The next morning I went down to check out at about 6.30am. I met a woman who looked surprised to see me and asked what I was doing. I said I needed to check out and she looked horrified and said I was too early. (We eventually negotiated this.) Then I asked for a taxi to the airport and she said that if I wanted a taxi to the airport on a Sunday I should have booked it the day before!

Fabulous location - 15 min walk from train station with €4 return trip into Brussels Centre taking 15 mins, very friendly staff, lovely bright rooms with big walk in shower, lots of choice for breakfast, lots of parking.....
Only downside was the smell from the drains as you entered the room (107) didn't notice it once you were in the room though & a few gnats when you had the lovely big windows open (due to the proximity to tree lined pathway and the canal - but wouldn't hesitate to go here again if visiting Brussels - very relaxing 2 day break!

All you can ask for, considering the price!

We spent several days in Vilvoorde. Guests were a mix of business and leisure travellers; a good blend. We found the facilities very interesting, being as they are part of a 'workhouse' which opened its doors in 1779.
Typically European, instead of tearing down and putting up glass towers as we do in North America (and call it progress...) this hotel incorporates the old with the new. It has a very large courtyard, modern apartment buildings around it, free parking and the town of Vilvoorde just a few minutes walk from the entrance of the original prison.

Well located, albeit access to the ring road is a bit twisty. Not the hotel's problem though. European cities and villages were not built with 250 km/h Audis and the like in mind. Once on the ring road, Northern Europe is your oyster. Only 10/20 minutes away form the International Airport (depending on traffic!!)

Interesting history

We chose this hotel since it was close to the airport so I could make my flight early the next day. Very interesting history of the hotel and I was glad they had a description of the history in many languages. Close to downtown and an excellent restaurant on the water. Very nice room which was clean and modern. They offered a bag breakfast I could take with me to the airport, which was larger than I expected compared to other hotels.

We were able to find this hotel easily, it was just a bit unclear where we should park as there is public parking in this lot as well. The hotel is just part of the main building, and this part is well maintained and decorated. We had good service from reception and in the morning for breakfast. There is a bar on site where you can get a drink if you desire. The hallways are painted black which is a bit disconcerting when you leave your room as the lights are on motion control. This was the only issue we had here but it is part of the theme in keeping with the workhouse/prison history. There is a good restaurant next door right on the canal and the weather allowed us to sit outside by the water which was lovely. It is a short walk in to the town centre and there are lots of restaurants and coffee shops available there as well.

The Lodge is a really nice hotel, architecturally stunning interiors made from an old prison. Nice immediate environs, handy for centre of Vilvoorde and easy for trains to central Brussels. My only slight gripe was some of the front desk staff could work a little harder on their meet and greet customer service skills. That said, it didn't detract from a stay in a lovely hotel.

Mein Bett war sehr weich, aber für mich noch in Ordnung. Das empfindet ja auch jeder etwas anders.
Was mich diesmal wirklich gestört hat, war der penetrante Geruch aus den Abflüssen. Das ist wirklich schade.
Sonst ist das Hotel durchaus zu empfehlen

Das Hotel greift in jedem Raum, jedem Gang seine Geschichte als ehemaliges Gefängnis auf. kurze Geschichten aus vergangenen Zeiten und Zeilen über Freiheit finden sich überall. Wir haben uns zu jeder Zeit sehr wohl gefühlt, nicht zuletzt durch das freundliche Personal.
Eine Unterkunft die ich nur weiter empfehlen kann und mit Sicherheit auch nochmals Besuchen werde.
Der Twist, Sprachen zu wechseln ist in Belgien einzigartig, was es ziemlich leicht macht, sich in Englisch, Französisch, Niederländisch und auch in Deutsch zu verständigen.
(Antworten in deutscher Sprache sind ggf. schwieriger, aber man wird verstanden, so wie die meisten Deutschen wohl Niederländisch verstehen aber nicht unbedingt Niederländisch Antworten können).

Jugendliche Reisegruppe war die ganze Nacht unterwegs, extrem laut um 03:00 04:00 06:00 pöbelnd durch die Hotelgänge. Die Zimmertüren sind extrem schlecht isoliert gegen etwelchen Lärm! Frühstück minimal.

Confort de la chambre correct. Par contre, très bon petit déjeuner et personnel accueillant. Environnement moyen (Bruits de travaux, vue sur toits d’usine). Restaurant à 3 minutes à pied au bord du canal. Parking payant (6 euros la nuit) au pied de l’hôtel. Proche Bruxelles en voiture.

Questa è la mia seconda volta presso il the LODGE, tutto molto bene, servizio buono, letti un pò morbidi e andrebbero rivisti ma si dorme bene in tranquillità, il parcheggio è a pagamento ma è molto comodo, la stazione del bus è a 2 passi e in meno di 30 minuti si può arrivare all' aeroporto facendo il biglietto di 2.5€ sul bus, location perfetta.

Endroit calme, bonne literie, salle de bains propre mais pas pratique concernant la baignoire. Lampe du bureau cassée, papier peint à la tête du lit décollé , le plafond c'est du béton, aucune déco sur les murs, cette chambre est la n°212 .
Le petit déjeuner est très copieux ,le personnel souriant et très agréable. Pour résumer , la chambre n'est pas à la hauteur du prix demandé.

Juste pour une nuit

Chambre pas disponible à l’heure mais il m’en ont trouvé une autre jusque là tout va bien !
Le problème c’est que la douche était complètement bouché inondation total de la salle de bain
Problème de facture ils ont été incapable de mettre le nom et l’adresse de ma société sur la facture ils ont essayé pourtant personnel incompétent

Goed hotel met een paar tekortkomingen ...

Bij aankomst kregen we een kamer toegewezen maar wanneer we binnen kwamen, was deze niet gekuist. Terug naar het onthaal en andere kamer gekregen. Daar was de poetsvrouw ook nog bezig, dus een beetje vreemd.
De kamer was ok. Het tapijt was wel jammerlijk besmeurd met vlekken overal wat niet wil zeggen dat het niet goed gepoetst was maar de vlekken zijn niet te verwijderen maar geeft geen propere indruk.
De faciliteiten in de kamer zijn basic maar goed. De matrassen zijn niet super maar ok. De kopkussens kunnen wel beter.
Het ontbijt was heel goed en ruime keuze. Alles was ook vers behalve het fruitsap maar is begrijpelijk. De ontbijtruimte is mooi en verfrissend!
Al bij al genoten van ons verblijf en je moet uiteraard ook rekening houden met de prijs die je betaalt.

Hôtel sympa, personnels très agréable.
Seul bémol 2lits une place, et la poussière mal nettoyer. ( mais ça reste convenable malgré tout)
