Excellent central location. Short walk to Germany's largest department store KaDeWe. Short walk to Wittenbergplatz U-Bahn station. One stop to Bahnhof Zoologisher Garten, for fast trains to and from the airport. Nearby two bus stops for routes taking you to all the main tourist attractions, namely bus routes 100 and M29. Bus 100 will also take you to the hotel from Zool. Garten, and the stop to get out is Bayreuther Strasse. Hotel is in a cul de sac, so relatively quiet. Room 201 was spotless. The hotel building is the only one in the street that was not bombed in WW2, so it will really suit those who love period architecture, since it is an old period building reminiscent of Berlin before the war. Room 201 has high ceilings and a huge window overlooking a tree, so lots of fresh air. Staff allowed me to store luggage after I left at 11, and I returned to collect it a few hours later. Staff are friendly.

A few small issues.

I had to fill out an application upon arrival work my personal information. Which I thought was repetitive seeing how I did that online prior to arrival.
Also, if you have guest visiting you, they will ask for their identification to copy down, which I thought was a bit much. It's my first time in Berlin/Germany, if there's an issue with drug trafficking or prostitution, etc... I wouldn't know. Nor was that ever explained to me. The front desk lady just rudely ask to copy his ID or else he isn't getting in (even though I came down to walk him up).

Also when you leave the building, you have to leave your key at the front desk. Yesterday evening, when I returned, there was a new man working front desk who I haven't seen before. I told him my room number and he just gave me the key to go up. I find it interesting how it was a hassle for my friend to visit me, yet another employee just gave me the key without properly identifying me. Either someone's not doing enough... Or someone's doing too much.
Other than that, it was clean. Good price and good location.
I wouldn't pay for the breakfast though.

Beware of additiona charge for breakfast NOT EATEN

Be very careful with the front desk staff, as they charge you for breakfast you didn't eat and collect wrong amount of tax. When questioned, they pretend not to understand English.

Air In Berlin is an older hotel, but quite a few modern accomodations and good wifi too. The breakfast is good too. Its small, the elevator is a little strange and not actually going to the floor, but the half floor at the turn in the staircase.

I would stay there again, its close to where I needed to be, the no air conditioning was not too bad as the windows opened wide, etc.

There was demolition taking place two doors down. I understand as the demo moves closer, it will include the Air In Berlin hotel as well making way for progress.

I don’t usually leave reviews. Though, this time ppl has to know what they are walking in to.
The heating system doesn’t work and I was charged property tax more than it was shown on Expedia app.
I booked double or twin bed room option and I found lentils in between the beds on the bedsheet.
I have asked one of the associates and he was not reasonable

This appears to be a family run/independent property. It's an old building so some rooms are really small and there is no elevator (or it wasn't working). Good breakfast options. Easy to get to Bus 100 or U1-3. Several shops/bars nearby. A good option for Berlin if you want a smaller independent property.

Room was expected size, had all amenities. I am only 5’6” and my knees touched the radiator in the bathroom while sitting on the toilet, so either sit sideways or don’t use your radiator.

We booked a room for two adults and our 16 year old son. When we arrived, they said our son did not count as a child and the room only had 2 beds. She asked to see his passport to verify he was only 16. We ended up staying cramped in a room with only 2 beds. If the hotel has a policy regarding age, it needs to be specified. On the hotels.com website, a child is listed up to age 17. I found the staff very rude and it was insulting that they did not believe our son was 16. On the only positive note, the location of the hotel is very central and close to everything.

The website photos are a misrepresentation of what I actually encountered. The hotel is outdated and unsafe (using keys with with who knows how many copies out there). WiFi didn’t work in our room. The staff and management are unscrupulous, we checked out a week early and didn’t receive any refund. Construction, on the building next door, began at 05:45 Sunday morning with jackhammers. The only possible positive I can think of is the location but there are other hotels in the are that are nicer and a better value. Having traveled the world extensively I’m very familiar with hotel rating systems and would rank it a 2 star. Beware of this hotel...They took my money for services not received and refused to work with me on any arbitration.

It’s. Noisy and room is tiny with hard to work shower in the water temperature and not for summer anyway ! I hardly slept as the courtyard was always noisy and car park too with honks ! Room is congested and warm ! It has a fridge a table and chair and that is it ! A water bottle I thought was complimentary on table with compliments on it now is being touted as 4 euro each at 700 mls and that must be most expensive on planet earth! I think I will avoid this in future

I can not recommend this hotel. Although I paid by online payment in advance and made a reservation, I could not stay fully booked when I arrived. Furthermore, the fees paid will not be refunded. It is such a fraud. Even if you can not stay at the overbooking of the hotel, you can not afford to refund the fee.

Solid choice for basic, affordable, comfortable.

I was attending a conference at the InterContinental just up the street and was really glad I booked here instead of there. My room was basic, very clean and the bed was comfortable and really a queen size, not two individuals pushed together. The shower was low-flow, but did the job, though the all-in-one shampoo/soap wasn't so great. The staff were very friendly and polite. Very good value for the price, and the location was perfect for me. Only complaint was that the wifi quite slow.

The rooms were nice, clean and tidy. The wifi signal was not great in my room so if you intend of being online a lot it is not appropriate for heavy usage. The stuff was nice and helpful. They did not tell us that breakfast is not included but I guess we could have asked. The breakfast at the hotel was average of quality and variety and they would run off certain things fast. Our rooms were looking towards the central road but it was quiet enough, although the rooms themselves are not very soundproof. All in all it was a nice experience but a bit overated I would say.

2 nights at the air in Berlin Hotel.

It would have been nice to have tea facilities in the room. I was surprised to get a bill for city tax on my departure and also breakfast was an unexpected extra. At £9 it was a little disappointing particularly as the "bacon" was all cold cured not cooked which i don't eat, which meant the selection was limited for me.. The service was good and the employees at the hotel pleasant and helpful

Our main reasons to visit Berlin was to support my Grand daughter who was throwing shot putt for GB in the European para athletics.
We chose the Air in Berlin Hotel because we wanted to be close to the centre of Berlin to enable us to take in some sightseeing and yet be near to the underground to travel to the games.
This hotel was very welcoming, the staff spoke English, the rooms were immaculately clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was continental buffet style, so you ate as much as you needed and tea and coffee was served hot as many times as required.
I was very impressed with the travel arrangements in Berlin - buy one ticket for the length of your stay and travel anywhere on train, tram, underground or bus. The Welcome booklet also gave very good descriptions of places to visit and eat.
If I every go back to Berlin I will stay at Air in Berlin Hotel.

Very small and old hotel with few personal in it through a day. Big rooms with NOT upgraded bathrooms, very-very old toilets, no A/C or sealing vents. There is a very noisy reconstruction going on just behind the building. Partial outside elevator, doesn't matter what floor you get, you'll have to use stairs.

Comfortable bed, and room was fine, and clean, but the light fitting on the ceiling squeaked and creaked every time somebody upstairs walked above it. I should really have mentioned it the first night but didn't bother, and then the noise got worse the second and third nights, as people stayed up later or got up earlier.

It is a nice hotel close to everything but a beach

I found the hotel on line some years ago. It is full of character, well located, close to urban transport, restaurants, and Ka De We the unbelievable department store. And it is reasonably priced. Love it! It is not the Hilton, as far as services go. It, I don't go to Berlin in order to feel at home. By the way, if one has not done so, visit Charlottenberg Palace. It is superb.

I had a great experience here as a solo traveller. The historic building is charming, my room was comfortable, and the WiFi was reliable. It's located close to a major U-bahn station, so it's easy to get to anywhere you want to visit in the city. I'd definitely stay again!

By far the worst I've seen

My room is 6 feet wide, I can touch both walls at the same time. It has a small twin bed that's barely more than a cot. It's a bit dirty, and beat up. WiFI is limited to 512Kbps down and 128Kbps up. There's a desk, but barely any room to pull out the chair. The front door doesn't open all the way because it hits the bed; similarly, the bathroom door doesn't open all the way because it hits the toilet. There's a single electrical outlet. Also, no environmental controls other than the window.

So So Hotel, with a bad experience on checkout

I have stayed at Air in Berlin many times due to the close location to where I go to for meetings. The reason I stay there is location and price (only). It is acceptable when I am on my own with a limited budget, but I would never bring my wife there. This time when I was leaving, the night clerk insisted that I pay even though I had my Expedia slip that said ::Collected by Expedia". She was very insistent and refused to accept the Expedia printout. She said that their records showed that they had not been paid and that I must pay. She acknowledged that if they found out differently that they would refund me. Of course when they refunded me, I lost out due to changing exchange rates. Of course I never received any apologies for this mistake of theirs. While the other clerks were quite nice, this one incident makes me not want to return.

There really is no shuttle service.

The description of this hotel at hotels.com was inaccurate. We were looking for a hotel that was located close to the airport, so we chose this hotel because of these:
1. It is stated that there is a shuttle to/from the airport.
2. name of hotel (Air) suggests closeness to the airport.
We were told by the receptionists that there is no shutlle service at all from/to this hotel. "There used to exist one", we were told.
We had to use a taxi and a bus too. We had returned our rental car at the airport, expecting a shuttle to/from this hotel.

Really enjoyed this hotel! I need to say that the man at the reception desk in the day time went way above kindness when he allowed me to use his charger for my Iphone for 2 days! The fact he would trust me to take it and bring it back was awesome. THAT is good service!

Low price hotel suitable for a few nights

Check in was easy and quick and all the Lobby desk staff were very friendly. This is a comparatively low price hotel which was suitable for a 2-night stay, right across the square from my meeting room. It is just a few minutes walk from the U-Bahn station, so good access to Berlin centre.

Its a place to sleep

I like hotels in older historic buildings. But older buildings require a commitment to design and maintenance that was not in evidence here. The room was small and not laid out well. The bath was so small that the door had to be closed to get to the sink. The elevator doesnot serve all floors - pack light.

Light bulbs out, paint chipped, worn out carpet, bad patch painting.

An interesting and odd thing is that the canopy with the nameof the hotel is not the entry. So don't go up the stairs. The entry is to the right.

Single room was very tight, inc the bathroom. Nevertheless, comfortable bed and powerful shower, so tolerable. Basic Continental-style breakfast adequate. Small selection of drinks at reception / foyer / breakfast area for a nightcap, but close to several bars that surround Wittenbergplatz U-Bahn.
From airport, take X9 bus to Zoo Garten then hop onto adjacent 100 bus for just two stops (to Bayreuther Str) and you are 100 yards from the hotel.

Clean and comfortable stay i lovely Art Deco building.. Great that they offer single rooms. Would have been even better with some air conditioning or fans in the rooms. It was between 32 and 37 degrees during our stay and one night I had to choose between stifling heat with the window closed or noise from rowdy guests outside in the garden and then in room next to me. I chose rowdy guests. Would also have appreciated some soy or other plant based milk . As a vegan all I could have from the extensive breakfast buffet was dry bread rolls and jam and a piece of fruit but it was adequate.

Good value for money -- a pleasant stay.

I stayed for 7 days -- very good value because I pre-paid. Close to the action on Ku'dam, but not too noisy. Small room, but not a problem for me. Decent wifi, and everything else worked out well. Just don't expect aircon -- can be hot in summer. Helpful staff. I would definitely stay there again.

The bed was okay, the water pressure in the shower was great, and it was cheap. That sums up what was good about the hotel. The "free wifi" is limited to 512Kbit, faster wifi costs €3 per 24 hours. The hotel is also in a desperate need of renovation. I stayed here for a week.

Great hotel, great location, great price!

I felt very safe here as a young woman traveling alone in Germany. The hotel was close to S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and other public transit so I had no problems getting around as a tourist and going to various neighborhoods around the city to shop, sightsee, and explore. The hotel was pleasant, the single-bed room was perfect for me as a solo traveler, and everything was very clean and quiet. I plan on returning to Berlin, and I plan on staying here agin, too. I've traveled though a number of cities in Europe, and this one stands out as wonderfully positive. Great experience!

Simple hotel at a convenient location

I stayed at Air in Berlin for one night in between flights, as part of a longer trip in Europe. The hotel is very conveniently located to both Tegel airport and the city center/common tourist sites through Berlin's very efficient bus and U bahn system. The building itself is charming, in typical old German style. It is old but in good condition, and worth wondering around the different layers and stairs. The downside though is that the elevator was added later in between floors and you'll have to carry your luggage on some stairs for sure. The rooms are small but clean and in good condition. The basic amenities are available, hair dryer, TV, wireless internet, and a mini bar with some drinks. The breakfast, although a bit expensive, was also in typical German style with a buffet of decent variety and quality. Overall a simple but charming hotel.

Charming old hotel conveniently located

I stayed in Air in Berlin overnight to catch a flight at Tegel airport the next morning. The hotel is conveniently located in a lively area with a lot of restaurants and cafes, but yet it's quiet and comfortable. It is an old, small hotel, charming and clean, with impressive wooden stairs everywhere (a typical old German building) but the amenities are basic. The elevator was added later on to the building, so to use it you need to get out of the building, walk through the backyard and then take it. And still, you need to walk up or down a few stairs to get to your room. If you carry a lot or heavy luggage, this will be tiring. The room itself is clean but small. There is nothing much more than take a shower and sleep (which was perfect for my needs). Internet was working perfectly. I had breakfast the next morning at a surcharge of 9euros. It was a good breakfast buffet, in a typical German style. The variety was not as large as in other hotels I've been to but very decent and everything was very clean.
Overall, a good small hotel with basic amenities at a convenient location.

I enjoyed my stay. The hotel was located near the train station, many restaurants, and attractions. The wifi was good. Very pleasant staff.

Nice hotel but boring and small room

The outside of the hotel is lovely, and it's on a nice street very near to the metro. The inside is also nice, and interesting. However our room itself was very plain and functional. It was also very stuffy and warm. Very comfy bed/pillows though.

The cleaning was very good, and we had no problems. We didn't see much of the staff but those who checked us in and out were nice.

Air in Berlin Hotel Review

We stayed there 6 days. The room was small, but OK. There was no air con, but the window opened wide. The shower room has seen better days, but was clean. Our room looked out on to the back of the hotel and was nice and quiet. We did not have breakfast there - cheaper to have coffee and croissant in nearby cafe or the U-bahn coffee stand.

Lovely hotel and excellent base for seeing Berlin

We were impressed with the staff and the hotel itself. It was perfectly based for the sightseeing we wanted to do, and the hotel is in a good area for shopping and restaurants - and close to an underground station. Berlin as a city is an amazing place to visit - with sights and venues to visit associated with pre-war Prussian/German history, WWII and the East-West divide.

Perfect hotel for budget stay

It was located in a great area with plenty of places to eat nearby, and many supermarkets to stock up on necessities. Highly recommend if you're looking for low budget, no frills accommodation.

Good value, great location, clean and comfortable.

Great price for the location. We loved the extra bed in the "extra" room for our third person. Easy to/from Tegel Airport for our overnight layover. We suggest you give a better description for getting to/from Tegel on your website. Bus X9 or 109 from the airport to Zoologischer Garten then transfer to bus 100 for 2 stops and get off at Bayreuther Str.. Hotel is on Ansbacher Str 6 near intersection with Kurfursten Str (50m from bus stop). We figured it out with help from a very nice woman on the bus but it would have been nice to have had the instructions spelled out. Will definitely stay here again if we ever make it back to Berlin. This hotel was perfect for our family (2 adults and 1 child), but would also be good for business travelers and others.

Very good hotel

Hotel is great. Clean, nice. Courteous staff. It is located in the Charlottenburg near the Zoo (not in central Mitte), but it is an easy bus ride or you can take the U-bahn. My rate was very good but did not include internet or breakfast.

I stay here often

I have stayed here over 10 times in the last five or six years. It is extremely close to the offices I visit when in Berlin. As long as there is a good rate offered, I will stay here. When the rate is too high, I stay at other close hotels. My experience is consistently good. This is not a luxury hotel, but is good for business stays.

Lovely hotel - great area

This is a really nice hotel with lots of rooms. The staff are very nice and friendly but not the speediest.
Nice heap minibar. Rooms spacious and very clean. Location is fantastic for shopping, eating drinking and close to all areas for Berlin Wall, checkpoint Charlie and lots of clubs in Berlin.
Would definitely come back here :)
