Staff were amazing, my room had a bathtub which I always enjoy when in a hotel, location is perfect although technically not in the centre, Berlin has many districts all very accessible from this hotel. If you are gay then this hotel is perfect for many bars etc. around. The station is a 3 min walk. The rooms are super quiet and proper black out curtains if you crave darkness, nice spa on top floor also. My only negative comment is there no bar, however there are plenty around.

I had read previous reviews about unwelcoming staff / unfriendly atmosphere. well I can absolutely say that couldnt be further from the truth. Everyone was so pleasant and welcoming. Always a friendly smile and polite chat from the staff.
The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and the rooms have everything you could ask for. They are also cleaned daily if needed. The facilities are also great the spa area was a perfect wind down after a long day out exploring.
10/10 would recommend, and we will be booking a break here again in the new year.

So where to begin !!

Rude staff at check in firstly
Waited untill after check in time for a room that was not even clean !!
No towels in the room and a door that would not close !!

So the spa area and gym area
Dirty no towels here either
Toilets dirty over flowing !

Breakfast well this is a joke !!

Sat down for 20 minutes whilst the waiter was sat on the bar flicking through Grindr rather then approaching me and taking my order I was there for 28 minutes before a girl came over to take my drink order

Then another 5 minutes later the staff came over and laughed saying do you want to eat ??

Well this was a joke and the breakfast choice honestly you would get better in a hostel !!

So I raised these concerns to the reception who told me to send an email rather then deal with the situation there and then !!

There is a mini bar but i didnt use it and all things seem to have been thought of for however you would like your stsy. Everything is walkable and lots of bars and eating places nearby. Woukd definitely come back again.

Staff was amazing and friendly with every encounter. I did have an issue with the heat and air condition which they acted fast to bring me mini fan and heater. The junior suite was nice I stayed on the 5th floor. My room was exactly under the gym and heard every weight being dropped every morning. I still think this was a great hotel to stay in.

I checked out within 30 minutes of checking in and advised I would be refunded however the following day they decided they would not refund the stay and instead charged me for the full stay in a room which still had dust and rubbish from seemingly 10 years ago. My satisfaction with this stay at the hotel (and this is not my first time here) is quite low.
The dry sauna was out of order throughout the entire six-day stay, and the jacuzzi was also not functioning properly — it was essentially just a lukewarm bath, nothing more.
Throughout the stay, only one elevator was working, which caused long waits and delays. But the worst part was when *both elevators* were out of service for an entire day! That’s simply unacceptable — how does a situation like that happen? We had to go up and down from the 5th floor almost constantly, either because of long waits or because neither elevator was working.
Despite all this, I must say that the reception staff were kind and the breakfast was excellent.
I expect compensation for the inconvenience caused by all these issues with the hotel facilities. It’s simply not respectful, and I will reconsider staying at this hotel during my next visit to Berlin.

My favorite place to stay in Berlin. Located one block from the Wittenberg-Platz U-Bahn station, so getting around the city is fairly easy. The rooms face the courtyard, so there is hardly any street noise. There are a number of restaurants and eating places in the area, and the hotel has a restaurant specializing in cuisine from the Caucasus region.

Gay Friendly, that's about all it offers.

I was double-charged for city fees, and when I questioned them at checkout, the front desk person said, 'I see that you paid at check-in, but there's nothing I can do now to make a note.' The beds are hard and uncomfortable. It feels like an afterthought hotel. I've stayed at two other Axel locations, and this one is, by far, the worst. I would not recommend anyone to stay.

Loved this property, we had a junior suit and it did not disappoint.
Lots of good quality restaurants within easy walking distance. It’s right on the edge of the gay area so could walk to lots of gay bars.
Easy Uber transport into heart of Berlin for museums and other cultural visits. We would stay again.

Property gouged me on price, I booked a room direct with them on their own website, and another 2 on Expedia, 2 days before my stay they canceled the only room I’d booked direct (for €470) with no explanation, eventually spoke to reception who so and the GM had told them to cancel my suite as they’d double booked it. They had a dozen other rooms they could have moved my reservation to, however they forced me to rebook a lower room on a new reservation that cost twice as much as my original!

Do not book this hotel, shady business practices, room was filthy, the bath area I ended up cleaning myself because it was disgusting, the FOH team (with the exception of Kevin) are mostly rude and one two occasions I was stood there walked them get caught out talking s**t about the guest checking not realising they could speak German.

Whole hotel is insanely dark, worn out and old, you spend your entire time trying to see yourself in your room mirrors and walking out into the hall using one of those mirrors.

I spent $25k last year with the Miami property and assumed that the Berlin and Madrid properties would be as good, they are terrible. GM refuses to ever leave their office and speak to guests.

As a hotel operator and marketing agency I can tell you this hotel operates WAAAY outside the normal hotel practice - booker beware!

The stay here was fine, the property is starting to show its age, and the mattresses are hard as a rock, but the staff are lovely and very helpful. Tip if you book a more expensive room such as a junior suite - request a high floor. I was on level 2 and had constant traffic noise, could hear the conversations of people on the street at all hours of the night, and at times could smell cigarette smoke coming up from street level.

Excellent place to stay. My room and bath were immaculate. The hotel offers a good breakfast from a menu, and is the evening the restaurant features Georgian (Caucasian) cuisine. It is within walking distance from Nollendorf Platz, and is a block away from the Wittenbergplatz U-bahn station which makes it easy to go anywhere and do anything in Berlin.

I chose the hotel because of its location and that didn’t disappoint. However the room was deeply disappointing in several respects and the staff could only offer very limited help. Firstly, the room was decorated in black with very low levels of lighting. The staff couldn’t provide any additional lighting and I had to use a torch to find things. Secondly there was only one power socket and that was at the foot of the bed. The staff did find a very short extension lead so I could charge two items at once, but they had to be on the floor out of reach when in bed. There was very little cupboard or drawer space for clothes and nowhere to put an empty suitcase. The shower was good.

Significantly improved since 2020-2022 when it really went downhill with the clientele it attracted. A lot cleaner, no strange people hanging around & overall a lot clean and tidier. Jacuzzi didn’t work at all which was very disappointing. As with all other Axels, a €150 refundable deposit is payable on arrival & then city taxes payable on departure. Can’t fault it overall unless I end up having to chase for my refundable deposit as Axel Miami I had to chase 3 times before it was eventually released.

The hotel is in a perfect location for what we wanted to do. The staff was very accommodation and welcoming and were kind to store our luggage for us. However, the room needs some maintenance. We could not even shower without the fear of flooding the other floors. the drain did not drain. So we went to the Spa to shower and they were broken as well.

**DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY**

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel, which I chose for its LGBT-friendly reputation. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations.

Firstly, the cleanliness of the hotel - The room and common areas were noticeably dirty, which was quite off-putting, namely the carpets in the hallways - filthy.

The Maintenance in the room was poor - the jet bath didn’t work, and the ceiling had holes in it and teh couch smelled of stale urine.

The air conditioning in my room didn’t work during a heatwave with temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius. It was unbearable, and despite requesting assistance, no fan was provided until the last day of my stay.

Additionally, the steam room and jacuzzi, which were among the amenities I was looking forward to, just didn’t work. This lack of functional facilities was a significant letdown.

The team were nice & the location was good - but there are better hotels in the local vicinity that are better value for money and don’t cash in on the LGBTQ+ community by marketing themselves as “hetro friendly”.

I chose this hotel for its reputation as an LGBTQ+ friendly establishment and its appeal to gay travellers. Unfortunately, the facilities and overall maintenance fell short of expectations. I worry that this situation may persist as long as the hotel continues to leverage its LGBTQ+ reputation to attract guests without delivering the quality that travellers clearly deserve.

The biggest issue was the lack of reasonable functional air-conditioning as it was extremely hot and hard to sleep due to the efficiency of the air-conditioning. All the guests were complaining and regrettably it is what it is.

Bedbugs found in room switched rooms at 1 AM and was too scared to sleep in the new room a 30 minute nap when she used to shower but only had scolding hot water on both showers and burnt myself and then called 11 o’clock to remind me that I had to check at 12 which I was fully aware of to management Got no response. The hotel boasts an excellent location for those seeking proximity to gay bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. However, the hotel's interior could benefit from a much-needed renovation. In comparison to our previous stay at the Axel hotel in Barcelona, which offered more amenities and a better condition, this hotel falls short. The spa area was also underwhelming as most of the facilities were not functional. We found the location to be the hotel's saving grace, as it allowed us to avoid the touristy areas and enjoy a more local experience.

They could not change my room because the entire fourth floor had no air conditioning and they had no rooms with working air conditioning. However they are still selling rooms online advertised as having air conditioning.

The first night the AC wasn't working.
The second night the AC wasn't working either, they made me move to another room with AC \"working\" but the room was TAKEN, it was really awkward to open that room with a key that was asigned as it was a non-taken room. Walked back to reception to let them know this issue, they changed the room again, but guess what? for the 3rd time the AC wasn't working.
The last room had the AC working but not so well and it had that smoke smell.
As a visitor from a foreign country I was expecting to not have any issues of this kind in a first-world country.
Very dissapointed.

Overall a decent hotel. Enjoyed the rooftop hottub, sauna, and socializing with other guests from around the world. Location was nice. Breakfast was substantial.
Room was very small, shower flooded part of the room every time I used it (horrible drainage), staff denied laundry service when I asked them (but then I was provided with a laundry sheet in the room?), there was a bit of an unpleasant ‘smell’ in the room, and the hotel really didn’t live up to the hype or expectation.

The Axel Hotel describes itself as hetero-friendly, which is a clever way of saying that it is designed primarily as a hotel for gay men. The decor reflects the gay vibe: mostly black with lots of wall to ceiling mirrors which mislead you into thinking there are long corridors, until you nearly bump into one. My room was a good size, overlooking a garden. Large and comfortable bed. Excellent shower. Breakfast costs extra and was worth it. The hotel is less than ten minutes by cab from the main station and five minutes walk from an underground station. As a gay man, I was happy to be in a hotel with other gay men. The decor hadn't changed since I was last there five years ago and, although it was in good order, maybe it's time to lighten it up a bit.

If looking for a centrally located hotel that caters to the LGBTQ+ community, the Axel is a good choice. Clean and with friendly customer service at the reception desk. The room is standard size with the basic amenities. Nice firm bed and ample pillows. The restaurant was not open during my stay but there are plenty of restaurants at every price range nearby.

Paid more for a superior room with a jacuzzi, but the jacuzzi didn’t work and the receptionist was extremely rude and nasty to me when I told him that. Never been treated so badly by a receptionist. Very rude and unfriendly staff and the hotel is in a very bad condition. The photos they post are from 20 years ago. I absolutely don’t recommend it to anyone!

The best part of my stay was that there was a front desk. After having some dismal results due to email malfunctions and getting entry codes it was a pleasure to be greeted by a real person that provides guests with key card. The dining was excellent - the hotel has a Georgian restaurant that provides guests with a taste of Caucasian cuisine. The hotel is one block from the Wittenbergplatz U-Bahn station and walking distance to the Zoologischer Garten station for connections to the S-Bahn lines that make Berlin accessible without a car.

Slightly dated but still stylish hotel. But parts are a little tired now. Nice spa area. Still very strange smell in corridors at certain times of day ?

Deteriorating hotel

This hotel is deteriorating fast. Upon check in we were told that the hotel doesn’t always have hot water for showers! The hotel corridors have a damp musty smell and our room ceiling leaked on the last night.
Staff are uninterested and sometimes worse.
Stay somewhere else.

Just Ok

Our stay was just ok. Staff were very friendly, good gym facilities and hotel is conveniently located (e.g., within walking distance to public transport routes). However, there was no hot water for showers (staff informed us of this upon arrival). There was a musty smell throughout the hotel, inconsistent cleaning of room, and very thin walls.

Staff friendly and helpful but slow, key card stopped working a day early, room missing curtains that were never fixed during our 3 night visit. Very tired and unkept rooms, looking like they needed a paint job. Hot water stopped at 8pm each night. Toilet gives little privacy due to no door, but the design of the room is very attractive.
