My main concern was my room which I call the Bavaria Room. It had a large illuminated Bavaria Beer sign which couldn’t be turned off except by taking out the card.
Also on the wall there is a large ad to Bavaria with two models shown from behind with Bavaria across their bums.
Kind of weird.
Otherwise very close to the train station, restaurants and sights.
Breakfast which wasn’t included was a little pricy but there are nearby options.

Toutefois, PAS de service aux chambres avant la 3e journée, donc lit non refait, serviettes non repliées avant la 3e journée. Manque grandement de crochets pour les vêtements et les serviettes humides après la douche alors qu'un mur est présent devant la sortie de la douche. Pas de bac à recyclage pour bouteilles ou cannettes. Ville en soit toutefois peu attrayante.

This property is very close to the train station which was convenient for us. The entry into reception was a little confusing, as the door off the Main Street was locked and this was the door that had a ramp for trolley bags. Instead the entry was a small side door with a few steps, which led into a bar area. The check in process was swift. Our room had the strangest layout of any hotel we've visited - the bed at entry, an open bathtub/shower area and vanity, closed toilet room, then a large area with a desk. The window at the end of the room. I wanted to open the window a bit, but it had a little enclosure before the open air - it was pretty dirty with cigarette butts. The room was very dark. The bed and linens were very comfortable. So for one night it was fine, but if you are not comfortable showering in the open this room is not for you. We definitely did not get a room that was pictured on Expedia. Based on our room, it is a 3 star accommodation at best.

The location was excellent and convenient, especially for arrival and departure from the train station, which is only one block away. We had a nice view on the main street, but this also comes with some extra notice in the evening because of the nightlife.
The shower is not constructed very well. There is no door, so the air besides the water stream is cold. En in order to stand directly under the water stream, you have to stand on top of the drain.

During the booking there was an option to choose rooms without daylight; we paid more to get a room with daylight, and the corresponding photos showed a bright room. We were therefore very disappointed to be in a long, poorly laid out room with no daylight to speak off, as the facade at the back of the hotel prevents light coming in: we were basically looking at a grey concrete wall at a meter away from our window, with gaps allowing us to look down on the street, but not see any sky. The poor lay-out was caused by having a bedroom area with tv, narrowing to a corridor which was the bathroom, opening up again in a sitting area - without tv, and hardly any daylight - just awful. One of the guys at the check-in desk was very apologetic, and after 2 nights we could move into a room at the front of the hotel which was much brighter, and they gave us a bottle of wine to make up.

I was defending my dissertation. This was the PERFECT place to mentally prepare. Ask for the round room and the environment will help you mediate right to success. Round bed, round tub. Amazing room! Best part are the wonderfully kind and helpful staff!

The Design Hotel, Maastricht.

The Design Hotel has a modern and contemporary feel to it. The reception is friendly and my room was spacious with a separate area with table and chairs. The bathroom was notable for its fluffy towels and the breakfast is comprehensive; omelettes of your choice, for example.
It is a stroll from the station and there are plenty of restaurants around if you choose not to eat in the hotel's first class dining room.
The old centre of the city, the Vrijthof, is a comfortable stroll away, across the Maas river.

Not much to write home about

Not an exceptional hotel by any means. One given when traveling in the EU and Asia, the 'star' ratings are quite inflated: a 4-star hotel doesn't mean much more than an average Hilton -- basic. The breakfasts were terrific, so that's a plus; we'd go back for the freshly-squeezed orange juice alone. Dinner at the restaurant was a disappointment -- it was clear when we waited (and waited, and waited) for a half-hour for dessert that the kitchen staff and wait staff were ill-prepared for the volume of business that night. The food was good, but there are many restaurants to choose from in Maastricht. The location was terrific -- only 2 blocks from the central train station -- well w/in walking distance.

In general the hotel is really nice. Breakfast is wonderful and staff very pleasant. The only thing I think would have improved my stay if there would have been an actual closet in my room. There were a few small shelves to put clothes and a coat rack, but that was it. I am sure this is perfectly fine if you stay one or two nights, but I stayed 8 nights. I did talk to the front desk and they made sure it will be in my profile and I was advised to book a bigger room next time. I most retained will do so, however I should not have to. It is only me, and I thought a closet was kind of standard in a hotel room. I should not have to pay extra for a bigger room to get one.
As I said, this was only a minor inconvenience, the stay was very nice, the hotel clean and modern, the breakfast wonderful and some extra touches as some finger food and Porto at night at the front desk.

Excellent hotel , great location and very friendly staff. We had two rooms both were excellent and with closed door bathrooms . The bar was good and nice to unwind at the end of the evening , Richard as bar manager gave the most excellent customer service. We will definitely return to this hotel and I would certainly recommend .

This hotel is close to the train station and within walking distance to everything. Good restaurants nearby. Very noisy due to construction just outside in the street. Noise started very early in the morning but I'm assuming this is a temporary problem and will go away when construction is done. It was very clean and in a safe area. Staff was helpful.

Visit During Maastricht Carnival

I stayed at Hampshire Designhotel Maastricht during Maastricht Carnival in February 2016. The staff was friendly and the room was comfortable. The gym is extraordinarily basic (two dumbells, a bench, and a few cardio machines), but the neighbourhood was great - lots of restaurants, a few nice cafes, and a very quick walk to the bridge into the centre, where all the carnival action was happening.

The hotel is easy to find, reception great only nice friendly people working there.
We had a great time, with great food, service and a top room.

maybe due to the green key, but the sheets are not cleaned daily? we had breakfast in bed, and the next evening we went to bed with the crumbs still in it.
this is the cleanness deduction.

The room comfort deduction was due to the loose tiling on the balcony. (the tiles tilted when being stept on)

Anyways, nothing bad to say, we had a great stay !!!

Handy for the station, small rooms, crap design

The hotel is spectacularly badly designed -- handwash basins are in front of the room door, wastebins under luggage racks, and taps under shelves so you can't operate them fully. Other than that it is an ok budget hotel. Breakfasts are overpriced, try Bread and Delicious across the streeet or Taart in town.

One issue for me was that there was no air conditioning in the room, only a fan which was noisy. We were lucky that it wasn't too hot whilst we were there but I would stay here again

Convenient Location

The hotel is very conveniently situated just a stone's throw from the train station and a short walk from the center of town. Certain elements of the interiors are due for an update, but are reasonably suitable. Staff was efficient and pleasant but mostly remain behind a partition that separates a staff room from the front desk, so one often enters and leaves the hotel without actually seeing an employee.

Generally a nice hotel in a very good location in Masstricht; near to city centre, near to train station, nice neighbourhood with choice of bars, shops & restaurants. Hotel staff very friendly & polite. Breakfast at €19,50 / person is excessive though. Lack of water pressure in shower and uncomfortable beds with low quality pillows spoilt the stay. Style over substance is the conclusion. Overall, wouldnt choose to stay there again, as price / quality are not made up by other factors.

“A pleasant surprise”

We were looking for a good value hotel near the Railway Station, and booked the Designhotel Maastricht for 3 nights. We were a little unsure what to expect, as the Hotel Website is a bit confusing about the rooms.
The staff were excellent from booking-in to checking-out, and the hotel was clean [although the decor is getting a little worn].
We asked for a quiet room and were booked to room 450 on the 4th Floor at the back. Even though it was Carnival Weekend, the room was quiet, comfortable and warm, so slept well on each night. My daughter’s room was at the front, and was somewhat noisier.
We did find the 'open plan' toilet/bathroom unusual, though useable, but we would have preferred a separate toilet [which my daughter had in her room] - I suppose it's best to check with the hotel when booking.
I would have considered giving the Hotel a higher score if the restaurant had lower price menu options for residents. Also if the prices quoted by the hotel and by Hotels.com included the [currently] €3.50, so for four of us for 3 nights we had to pay an unexpected €42.00.
We would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are quieter, and some bathrooms are more 'open plan' than others

The first room we were shown (the most basic) was at the back of the hotel and very dark. No \"Design Hotel\" and certainly not worth the room rate. The second room at the front was much better with more light, space and desing features but is starting to look tired. Room and bed not very clean. Sheet had a hole in.

When I first stayed at this hotel 8 years ago it really had the wow factor. This time it sadly disappointed.

Interesting concept but in need of an update

Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The idea of being surrounded by art during your vacation is a wonderful concept and the town of Maastricht is a MUST SEE for anyone visiting Holland, in our opinion.

It is easy to see that when the hotel itself first opened it would have been beautiful, however it is now tired and in need of a renovation. The common areas of the hotel are run down with stains on carpets, a lack of attention to detail (such as the bad astro-turf covering on a lower roof) and a general dirty feel to many of the common areas. On the up side the staff were fairly friendly but I’d say below average for our encounters in Maastricht, and the self-serve lounge was very cool.

Our room (comfort XL) was large, clean and had an interesting décor. The open concept, in my opinion, is taken a little too far with the shower and sink in the middle of the room. It also broke up the spaces of the room in an un-natural way. At least this room had a self-contained water closet with a toilet, however the lights for this little room were on the same switch for the rest of the living area which meant a late night trip to the loo required either fumbling in pitch dark or turning on all the lights in the room. The a/c in the room worked fabulously despite record temperatures outside.

To the owners, please put a little more tlc into this hotel, it is well worth saving but at present is fast becoming a 3 star hotel for budget travelers.

the stay was okay. i had a different image of what the design hotel would be like. my room was not very comfortable, a bit noisy [from other guests and also odd humming sounds from machinery in the building]. i had mainly chosen the hotel based on the location, so that worked out well.
