My room was cozy and the staff was friendly. I loved having a cup of tea in my room before bed each night. I didn't try the breakfast here because there were so many little restaurants and bakeries in walking distance that I wanted to try. I'd definitely look into staying here again next time I'm in Maastricht.

For the price, the room and service were overall good. However, the property itself needs renovation. There are visible cracks on the walls, and chipped paints in the room we stayed in. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast spread was decent. The location is very conveniently located to all local must-see places, very much at the heart of the city.

Do not recommend this hotel at all.

On our arrival we were asked to pay for our stay. I have explained that we paid already at the booking time in November 23. I also handed in the receipt via Hotels.com. to the young chap at the reception. This still wasn't satisfying for him and he was convinced we didn't pay. We were very tired after spending 10 hours of travelling to get to Maastricht and what we really wanted was to relax after long day spent on the plane and train. He made us to pay again!. After we got back home, I have requested a refund via Hotels.com, which agreed with us that we have paid the amount already back in November. Now, nearly 2 weeks later, we still haven't received our money back from this hotel! How ridiculous! Hotel itself is dated, bathroom leaking and stinky. There was a lot of noise coming from the outside dining area (we had the window opened as there was no air conditioning). Never again, worst experience ever!

This is an old property that has been lovingly renovated. The bathroom was modern, the bed comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is in the old part of Maastricht and is walking distance to everything. Perfect location. Would definitely stay here again

After reading reviews, I was worried about the hotel, but the place was charming and the staff wonderful, (especially Chip!) We stayed on the top floor with old exposed rafters from the 15 or 1600s. The basement and the road were built by Romans. The heat was fine once we figured out the radiators. Our bathroom was huge, bright, clean, great shower, and it had a door. Pay for a “superior” room for a great bathroom. Breakfast was good, great breads, and it doesn’t change, but most places don’t change up the breakfast. As in other reviews, street noise was quite noticeable, but for us it was sleepable until New Year’s Eve. The stone streets and close buildings act like an echo chamber. A garden facing room may have been better. That’s not the fault of the hotel. It could use some paint touch up. I would definitely stay there on my next visit to Maastricht.

Sadly this did not live up to the 'boutique' description. The good points were the location, the breakfast and the comfy bed - less good were the very steep stairs, the damp on the walls, the disastrous pillows and the meagre number of coffee capsules. For the price it did not deliver.

We enjoyed our stay in Grote Gracht. Great location. Easy stroll to the main square. Parking was in an underground car park around the corner. Reception & staff in general was very friendly and helpful. We had a room off the Small internal courtyard. Very spacious and comfortable. Our daughters had a room with ‘city view’, which was very noisy at night - student party goers after ‘freshers week’. The rooms on the other side of the courtyard were quieter. Would definitely recommend it.

I travel almost every week and this is possibly the worst hotel I have been in Europe. Very bad attitude towards the customers, rude personnel. Old and not that clean. Did not want to accommodate my baby with my other 2 kids in a family room of 4 so they made us pay an extra room. The family room is extremely uncomfortable and cold (you can feel the draft so I had to put a coat over the baby cot).

The room was very clean, not so big, but for a single room okay. The toilet is separated from the rest of the room only through a thin wall, but has no door for privacy.

The rooms are in separate buildings from whre the front desk is. If it rains, you have to walk through the rain. There are no elevators to the rooms, the staircase is pretty narrow. The main door to the building with the rooms inside, as well as the doors to the the rooms have a mechanism that makes the doors slam. I woke up a bunch of times when other guests came home in the middle of the night and everything was shaking.

Other than that, nice hotel in a great location in the middle of the city. Great breakfast buffet.

Loft (aka Attic) was tightly spaced with head hazards, but the stairs coming up were even tighter. We worried for our own safety on the way up with luggage, as well as immediate worries for our children on said horrible stairs. To top it off, the staff was rude and luckily hotels.com customer service helped out ... and we moved hotels!

Generally the hotel was good and in a central location. However it is very difficult to get heavy bags up the steep narrow stiars (no assistance available), Our bathroom and toilet had no door, the toilet was open into the bedroom. Only one item of the breakfast is cooked and that is eggs, however they cannot cook scrambled egg without converting to rubber.

Well-situated hotel near Maastricht centre but without any noise issues. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. It’s a great place to wander.

Fairly-priced rooms with complimentary water and coffee, but rather warm. Helpful staff who looked after our luggage before we had access to our rooms and after we had checked out.

Great location and a nice place to stay

Our room was comfortable and the hotel is well located in the beautiful historic central area of the city, close to the market place, shops, bars and restaurants. We were staying in a room at the back of the hotel and found it very quiet. There was a kettle and coffee / tea etc and a minibar / fridge in the room. There was no hairdryer but it is possible to borrow one from reception (otherwise bring a travel one along!). The rooms are only really suitable for couples though as the shower is in the corner of the bedroom, but the toilet is separate. We did not try the breakfast as it seemed a little pricey, so we can't comment on it. However, we enjoyed our stay and found it very easy to get around on foot or by catching a bus from the nearby market place. We liked the character of the historic building and courtyard. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned, beds made and litter bin emptied daily. Shampoo, conditioner and soap were provided. Heating and hot water worked well.

Charming and unique

loved our stay at Hotel Grote Gracht but I'd call it more of a cross between a B&B and a hotel, and probably leaning toward B&B. We had what was called a Family Room, which slept 4 and was basically a loft setup--was very homey and sort of cool, felt almost like a modern cabin with A-frame ceilings--my sense is that most/all of the rooms are different/unique. The somewhat narrow staircase to get to the loft was a minor negative after several days, and especially if you had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night (bring your phone flashlight, to get down the steps in the dark). Another minor negative, for us anyway (and depending on what you're looking for) is that the hotel certainly doesnt have typical hotel services/amenities (again, more like a B&B in that respect)--there was also no elevator so our room being on the 3rd floor got a bit old after awhile--a small complaint, and something we were aware of before we went. Great location, definitely boutique/smaller, some minor negatives but we enjoyed it overall--and it definitely fit the charming and beautiful town of Maastricht.

Would not stay there again

The building and location were very nice, as were the furnishings and decorations. Small rooms are normal in historic city centers in Europe. If we'd left in the middle of the night we would have a great impression of the Hotel Grote Gracht.

But then morning. The breakfast itself was alright, slightly better than the normal toast & cereal fare. The guy at check-in and the binder in the room had plenty of info about breakfast hours and location, but no mention of price, so we were surprised to find at check-out that they were charging us 15 euros each, for a few slices of bread and a push-button vending machine coffee. Add to that the terrible manner and obnoxious attitude of the young woman at the front desk and we walked out of there wishing we'd stayed somewhere else.

We travel a lot, I'm a professional tour guide and stay in a wide variety of hotels, and we will not be staying at the Hotel Grote Gracht again. Mastricht is beautiful, but give this place a pass, there are plenty of better options available.

Due to the age of the building there was no air conditioning but the girl at reception gave us a room in the courtyard which was one of their cooler rooms and gave us a fan. Only small bedside cabinets and shelves-no drawers. One small rail for hanging clothes, not long enough for tunics or dresses and no door or cover over it. The shower area is part of the bedroom, so no privacy. WC is in what looks like a cupboard. Lovely decor both in the hotel and room. Nice bedding and towels. Room very small but we were only there for one night. Great location if going to see Andre Reiu, just minutes walk from the square. 15 euro each for breakfast, not good value as not a great selection. There were plenty of places around to get breakfast but as we were leaving for Düsseldorf early in the morning it suited us. Around 10 euros for a taxi to the train station/bus station.

Three nights in this hotel was pleasant and would visit again. Unfortunately the searing temperatures of 37 whilst we were there blighted our stay. There was no air conditioning and the hotel provided us with a fan which really wasn't adequate for the unusual heat.

Lovely boutique hotel right in the centre of the city. Short walk to all attractions, nighlife, restaurants etc. Nicly fitted rooms with unusual layout and a lovely courtyard. Helpful staff, with great local knowledge guiding you away from tourist traps. Parking a bit tricky and/or pricy.

Beautiful Hotel with Mices as guests...

Everything was very good, the room, one on the top (233 I think so) was a perfect room for a single person. Was comfortable, nice, elegant. They were nice and borrow me a cell charger. :)
The only bad thing is that at night I was walking near the breakfast area and I saw a mice twice. So, at the morning I didn't ate there, of course. They have to take more care about it.

Ruime kamer met authentieke elementen. Er was gratis water en koffie aanwezig op de kamer. Hygiëne was in orde, echter hongen er enkele spinnenwebben aan het plafond. Een ander verbeterpunt is het disfunctioneren van de airconditioning in de slaapkamer boven waardoor het hier zeer warm was.

Langs de buitenkant van het gebouw zie je niet hoe mooi het is van zodra je de deur binnenkomt. Het is een knus hotel met een eigen binnen terras.
Het koffiezetapparaat gaf aan dat het ontkalkt moet worden

Personeel was erg aardig, het matras lag goed, maar verder erg slecht. Heel gehorig, schimmel in de voegen en doorlopend op de tegels in de badkamer, verf wat van de muur bladderde, boxspring waarvan de stof helemaal gaar was, losse stukken hingen eraan. Prijs kwaliteit niet in verhouding.

Die Lage in Maastricht ist toll. Der Hof ist gemütlich. Mein Zimmer 201 ( Erdgeschoss )hatte einen einzigen sehr harten und fleckigen Stuhl. Es fehlten Fliegennetzte vor den Fenstern. Vor einem Fenster würde mir schon reichen. Die Fenster konnten nicht auf Kippe gestellt werden. Sie waren also zu, wenn ich tagsüber unterwegs war. Abends zum Lüften fehlte das Fliegennetz. Schön waren Wasserkocher und Kaffeemaschine. Sehr gefallen haben mir Duschmittel und Shampoo. Die dunklen Farben haben mich nicht angesprochen. Die braun gestrichenen Nachttische konnte ich mit hellen Servietten abgedecken.

Trotzdem vielen Dank an alle vor Ort, die wirklich sehr freundlich waren.

We had some bad experiences before this stay and I wanted to be sure everything works with parking the car and getting the best price, so the receptionist helped me with booking the parking space (though in this case the discount was only 1 Euro I realized afterwards). Thank you!

Wir waren dort anlässlich eines Andre Rieu Konzerts. Die Lage bombastisch central in dieser bezaubernden und lebendigen Stadt und nur wenige Schritte vom Vreijhof entfernt. Der Empfang: Sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Auf Wunsch gibt es ein Frühstück, es gibt aber auch die Möglichkeit, in unmittelbarer Nähe tolle Angebote zu entdecken. Ein Discounter, ebenfalls sehr nahe und günstig. Die Einrichtung originell, Dusche u. Toilette absolut sauber. Für uns tatsächlich ein kleiner Geheimtip und wäre bei uns, sollten wir noch einmal Maastricht als Ziel haben, sofort wieder nutzen.

Hotellet er med gammelt inventar. Vigtigt for os var at der er rent og det var der og så er beliggenhed ( gamle bydel) perfekt i forhold til Vrijthof pladsen hvor vi skulle til koncert: 190 m. Der er en hyggelig gårdhave på hotellet og vi kunne få servering efter midnat. Alt i alt kan vi anbefale hotellet hvis man ikke forlanger luksus

Wir bewohnten im Dachfeschoss ein Zimmer mit Feldscheunencharakter, Lift ins Dachgeschoss Fehlanzeige. Wer es gerne nachts laut hat, dem empfehlen wir ein Zimmer zur Strasse. Die Maastrichter Jugend startet jede Nacht ein Unterhaltungsprogramm bis in die frühen Morgenstunden, danach kommt gleich die Strassenreinigung...Schlaf? Fehlabzeige...

Heel gezellig oud pand in hartje Maastricht. Je moet wel goed ter been zijn vanwege de steilere trappen. Fijne ruime kamer met goede bedden en een goed werkende airco.
Hele ruime badkamer met bad, douche en badjassen. Uitgebreid ontbijt buffet met heerlijk brood met oa diverse soorten heerlijke jam.
Je kon zelfs een heerlijk stukje taart nemen.
Al met al, voor herhaling vatbaar

Die Lage mitten in der Stadt ist wirklich großartig. Man kann alles zu Fuß erreichen und Maastricht ist eine wunderbare Stadt.

Was uns wirklich gestört hat, war die mangelnde Sauberkeit in den Zimmer. Ja, die alte Einrichtung und die steile, dunkle Stiege ins 2. Stockwerk mögen ja ihren Charme haben, aber der Staub, die abblätternde Wand und die angeschimmelten Fliesenfugen in der Dusche waren leider nicht so romantisch.
