The stay was poorly managed from start to finish, despite being booked well in advance.

At check-in, I was incorrectly asked to pay an additional €150. Although this charge was later withdrawn, being greeted with an unjustified fee is an unacceptable way to start a stay and immediately undermines trust. This should never have happened with a confirmed reservation.

The room itself had several issues. The shower drains so poorly that during normal use the entire bathroom floods. A repair was scheduled for 1:00 PM; I adjusted my day to be available, but no one showed up and there was no communication or follow-up. The heating was inconsistent and uncomfortable, especially given the season, and a bedside reading light was broken on arrival.

Housekeeping was also unreliable. On the first day, service did not come at all. On the second day, the front desk was informed that we would leave the room around 1:00 PM, yet housekeeping came at 10:00 AM, woke me up, and never returned later, even after we left.

I want to be clear that my frustration was not directed at front-line staff. They were polite, and I even shared food with them as a personal gesture. My feedback is strictly about management, preparation, and follow-through.

None of these issues alone would have ruined the stay, but the accumulation of errors, missed appointments, and lack of coordination made the experience consistently disappointing.

The room had a seriously broken shower. The drain is so slow that when the shower is used at normal water pressure, the water backs up and floods the entire bathroom. This is a basic plumbing failure that makes normal use of the bathroom impossible.

To make matters worse, the hotel scheduled a repair appointment for 1:00 PM. I adjusted my day to be available. No one showed up. There was no communication, no explanation, and no follow-up. Promising a repair and then simply not appearing is unprofessional and shows a lack of respect for guests’ time.

This poor maintenance was matched by an equally poor arrival experience. My so-called “welcome gift” was being asked to pay an unnecessary €150 “showing up” fee upon arrival — a charge that was later admitted to be incorrect. Even though it was eventually withdrawn, being confronted with an unjustified fee at check-in is an unacceptable way to start a stay.

Overall, this hotel demonstrates weak maintenance standards, unreliable follow-through, and a troubling approach to guest service. Between broken facilities, missed repair appointments, and inappropriate charges at arrival, the experience was consistently disappointing.

The glass screen on the shower was sharp and needed a soft edge to mark the position as users could walk into it as it was difficult to see.

The staff was very friendly, clean room. What we didn't like was the sewer smell thought the room. Almost made you throw up. We asked for another room but nothing was available. Staff came and tried to clean out the drains and turn on the air conditioner. It helped a little, but the smell was in the room. We were not happy.

When arriving there was nobody at the desk, it was about 10 minutes before someone showed, after pressing the bell a few times. Room was ok, bit dark. We asked for extra pillows and they were provided. The bed itself was comfortable. After returning from a day in Maastricht we found the room had not been cleaned, dirty towels not replaced, bed not made and coffee and tea not replenished. We arranged with reception the necessary. Next day we did not want to go out for an evening meal so we thought we would eat in the hotel. After waiting for someone to take an order or hand us the menu I asked at reception if the restaurant was open?? I was told a colleague would be along shortly, we gave it an other 10 minutes or so and decided not to bother and went out into the town for a meal. Poor service from all levels of staff during our stay, will not use this hotel again.

Visit for Andre Rieu concert

Overall stay at Bastion was acceptable but was let down by lack of attention to detail i.e. numerous requests for extra towels and toilet rolls. Also TV did not work and at the end of our stay had still not been resolved ( hotel notified 3 times). No kettle in room and again 3 requests before it was provided.

The gotel is advetised as Horel Bastipn Central it is definately not ventral it cost 16 euro for a taxi to the station which is in the centre we yried to check in at 15.00hrs we eventuallly got our room key at 5pm ubacceptable . They charged top rates but gave a terrable service.

The staff at this hotel are super nice and welcoming! The rooms were clean and it was just perfect for one night stay. Its also in a great location where everything is walkable and there are buses running all the time. Great place! Would highly recommend for short stays. Room was exactly as pictured as well

Very basic facilities compared to a 4* hotel. Rooms are small, bedside tables even smaller, enough for a water bottle and mobile. Toilets are ok (funny thing is extra toilet paper is kept almost next to the ceiling). Not enough place for wardrobe to hang or keep stuff. Coffee table has no plate, no glasses. Coffee cups are used as holders for coffee capsules, creamer and sugar. Property is old....even needs painting.
I must add, the staff is very helpful though.
If you are single or couple....this place will do. Not for a family. The best part is, its like 3 min walking away from square and maybe 15 min from station. Bus stop is right outside of the hotel.

This hotel is in need of updating the room which was supposed to be deluxe was very dark gloomy very little lighting decor and furniture in very poor condition. Bathroom was good towels were worn out. Corridors carpets dirty dust behind open fire doors disgusting. Reception desk under manned at busy time such as check out. Will definitely not use this chain of hotels again.

€381 Bastion Hotel fury

Having travelled to watch Andre Reiu in Maastricht the Bastion Hotel had increased their usual nightly €69-€120 price to an eye watering €381. I was aware that hotel rooms were extremely hard to come by but I did not expect a dirty room, a bathroom with mould growing on the ceiling accompanied by a strong mould smell. The receptionist did nothing to rectify the situation and was in fact rude and just didn’t care. I am absolutely disgusted that at such a price the hotel was not even clean and the front of house staff’s attitude was just atrocious. The trip was supposed to be a Christmas treat after last years event was cancelled due to Covid, but instead the accommodation just ruined the whole trip. I cannot believe that the Bastion Hotel
Is advertised as a 4 star hotel, I would not have even given it one star.
It is morally wrong to charge such a price for such atrocious accommodation. The hotel was not fit for purpose & could even be seen as a health hazard for anyone staying long term or with any breathing issues. I am disgusted.

Had to wait in a queue for more than an hour to check in. No bath towels in room and plastic glasses split. No complimentary water as web site and no free parking as web site. It was 15 euros per day. 5 star prices for 3 star hotel in my opinion. Breakfast at 15 Euros was adequate but nothing special. Comfortable beds but room was dark and needed refreshed. The only positive thing I would say about the hotel was it’s close

While this hotel is situated just a short walk from the city center, it is the friendly and helpful staff (including the manager) that make this hotel a great place to stay for a night or a week. Typical Dutch breakfast combined with a decent dinner menu. Clean, air conditioned rooms with safe and secure parking for one’s vehicle if needed.

The reception was warm but I have a few concerns
1) The fridge in the room did not work
2) The breakfast buffe should be attended and refilled more often
3) My last comment should probably concern hotels.com
When I seracged for a hotel I filtered those with free parking. But it turned out (after booking an arrival) that the parking was not free.
I have to mention that the hotel also failed to inform me after asking for a parking place

We were very comfortable and had a nice stay. However the check-in was not so nice. We booked via Expedia and made it clear that we would be traveling with a five-year-old and a two-year-old. When we arrived, the person at the desk told us that we could not stay in the room with four people because it was not safe. He would not explain why it wasn’t safe but kept repeating that it wasn’t safe. He eventually alles the manager and said it would be ok “just this once”. If it is not allowed or safe for two adults and two young kids to stay in one room then please change your room parameters on Expedia and other search sites.

On arrival we were kept waiting for a very long time for a member of staff to arrive who could actually check us in. At check-out we had to insist that we had not had the drinks that we going to be charged for. The room was pleasant, bathroom good and it was nice to be given a kettle so we could make coffee in the morning.

Great location, comfortable bed, nice shower. The person who checked us in was very brusque and gave us very little information about the hotel. The room was very dark, even more so due to the broken lamp. When we told the guy at the front desk, he looked at us unbelievingly and asked us if we were “sure about that”, twice. “Yes, the bulb is hanging off of the side of it.” It was not replaced. Morning staff much friendlier.

Maastricht Weekend Stay

Hotel was ideally suited in the centre of Maastricht. Parking available. Close to shops and restaurant and a short walk away from the Vrijthof, where the show we booked to see was held. Room was clean, and suitable for the two night stay. Breakfast was average but part of the B&B deal so not too bad value for money. There are plenty of eating places close to the hotel if required.

Check-in and check-out are incredibly slow. Parking is expensive (€15) and awkward (narrow underground structure). Park across the street for €13 instead. Bathroom had a bad smell. Second night, there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke coming in. Staff didn't believe me and did nothing.

Receptionist welcoming, very helpful and friendly, as were all the receptionists we came into contact with. The room was cleaned daily. We would have appreciated some information about the TV, e.g we didn't know there were English channels available until 2 days before we went home. It would have been good if there was a socket closer to plug in the fridge - the alternative would have been to pull the fridge closer to the socket next to the bed! Other than that the beds were comfortable and changed mid week. We appreciated the coffee machine and bottles of water daily as the weather was so hot.

When I checked in and parked it was all ok. The room was a little tired looking but it was relatively cheap. Then I went to the bar, waited for 10 mins before someone even acknowledged me but then did get a drink, but couldn't eat, because the cook wasn't there. Got up the next morning, and from the recommended car park the hotel sent me to my car was stolen. So, all-in-all, pretty much a disaster.

The hotel got booked for the wrong date

We booked a room on the day of arrival, however when we drove to Maastricht and wanted to check in we found it was booked for the wrong date. I'm sure we initially selected the correct date. I expect this more to be an issue with Expedia. We decided to drive to Brussels instead and stayed in a hotel there.

Perfect gateway to lovely Maastricht

Maastricht is a terrific city, full of culture, life and beauty. The people are brilliant and the architecture is very varied and beautiful. Bastion Hotel sits on the edge of the historic centre, an easy walk from the river and all sorts of attractions. Our room was a good size for a family with older children and the free pool table went down well! An excellent two night stay.

Very disappointing hotel . The rooms were very small . Hardly any room to hang your clothes. You had to be very tall (not 5ft ) to hang your clothes or reach your towels. Toilet rolls were also out of reach without using something to get them down. No toiletries apart from a small bar of soap.

We made special requests that were ignored. My mother cannot use lifts and we were on the fourth floor. She had to be walked up the stairs by staff and strangers. Due to an injury I could not take the stairs with her. This was really not a nice experience. We were not informed of this so we could book somewhere else. And another big mistake was thinking we could relax and have a drink but There was no alcohol in the hotel bar except beer and campari. We were really disappointed. I was searching for a hotel close to my home that my family could stay while visiting. Although the room was nice and clean I would not recommended this to anyone with any special requests. We were ignored and felt like we were brushed off with our concerns by staff.

The hotel is in a great location, and one of the biggest advantages is the underground parking which is literally around the corner. You obviously need to pay extra for it but it is discounted by the hotel.

My only complaint is that they only have single/twin beds, so you cannot get a double room. Also, the bed itself was not very comfortable - which I guess is a problem for a hotel.

I got Robbed, literally!

Horrible experience, it ruined my trip! I paid 15 euros per day for the parking garage of the hotel (managed by QPark) and my car got broken in when the car was parked overnight. Worst then the bag and Canon camera stolen, it was the reaction of the hotel staff and manager. They didn't care at all!!! Gave me a flyer in Dutch indicating that the hotel does not assume any responsibility and gave me a map to the Police station. I should have heard my friends that leave in town that said that although this hotel is near the city center, it is on the bad side of the town. But it does not justify the completely careless of the hotel staff. On top of it, I froze to death in the hotel, their heating system must be 20-30 years old and does not heat. Even after they changed rooms, they were all the same. Stay away!!!!!

Reviews on the Bastion hotel varied, but i am pleased i decided to stay there. I would rate the hotel a 3 star and it was idel for my stay. The staff were friendly and very helpful. the room was decent - loved the clean , modern shower room. My room was very quiet - no problems sleeping. The breakfast was very varied,nice with plenty to eat - had a fresh made omelet every day. The hotel was only a short distance from the city centre and all the amenities. Really enjoyed my 4 night stay and would definitely stay there again and recommend to others.

When we arrived at the hotel we were early and was hoping for a early check in which was not granted, the lady at the desk appeared to look, but suspect she didn't try real hard but appart from that all else was OK for our stay in Massstricht

Very good value Maastricht Hotel

The hotel staff were friendly and efficient, speaking fluent English. Very good location and value. Room 101 has an aircon unit outside the window, which can be noisy at night. Room comes with a fridge, very useful feature. Bed very comfortable.

They let us keep the bikes in the room.

I am a frequent visitor to Masstrict Unfortunally I found this hotel very poor and not a true reflection of what is advertised the room was small beds small singles windows nailed shut overlooking noisy building site very disappointed expected more Raised concerned with reseption they were not interested I will not use this hotel again nor would I recommend it to anyone

Good location, poor customer service.

Didn't appreciate being charged for beers even though i had free coupons.
Under no circumstance are you allowed to check in even a little early.
Car Park not onsite even though it states that as a facility.
Room was of nice size but on ground floor and passers by could easily see in.
Wouldn't stay here again.

Our hotel stay was awesome. The breakfast was wonderful, hot scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, cereal, sandwiches, etc... The staff went out of their way to help us out. There was plenty of underground secure parking. The only negatives was the price of the breakfast and parking, but the room rate more than made up for it.

Good location. Friendly staff. Breakfast really good. Disappointed that our room smelled of smoke and the smoke detector had been covered with foil but not noticed by the staff until we pointed it out. We were offered a change of room but by then we'd unpacked and settled in.

Beware parking cost

Hotel room was good, nice beds etc, good location in old town close to town squares and eating places. However parking cost of 15 euro was a rip off and not explained well on website. So beware of this extra cost before you book a room. I suspect hotel use it as an extra income stream. City taxes are also high.

Great choice to explore the city

We were delighted with our stay. The ladies at the front desk were helpful and welcoming. They directed us to the cheapest parking in the city, and also let us check in several hours early. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. Fast wifi and a comfortable lobby downstairs. The fitness center was also nice. It was located in a great area of town. All tourist spots were within walking distance.

Door vervelende familie omstandigheden waren wij een dag eerder vertrokken.

De kamer rook verschrikkelijk naar riool .De bedden waren oke en de kamer schoon.Werk zelf in de schoonmaak dus ik let daar op .

Het meisje in de bediening was erg vriendelijk maar kon het eigenlijk niet aan in haar uppie maar bleef erg vriendelijk .Ook de dames achter de receptie.
