+Iguana community has lots of friendly Canadians and is special in that way.
+very isolated if you need help, groceries or a hospital if a solo traveller. No uber eats.

Cons:
- VERY rude gardener named Lalo. Yelled at me for a street dog I was paying a vet to com see AND the hotel dog that they do not vet (who brings joy to all) but is sick with erlichia. I had already informed the front desk. He yelled anyway and terrified the two dogs again. TOXIC MAN.
- same man was demeaning to an older lady more than once.
- Management could not get him to appigize. Told other young man to do the same to treat me and my rescue paid dog with disdain. No accountability
- wifi is terrible if you are a digital nomad
- there seem to be no hotel rules for noise=very loud weekends and NO front desk interventuon.
- begrudgingly desk staff may help with bags. No elevator.
- hide water cooler in the office to make people use and buy plastic water bottles. NOT environmentally friendly.

We absolutely loved our stay, the only complaint is the jacuzzi didnt work and was always cold wgich we where really counting on after our long hikes to ease our muscles. But the staff was so friendly and amazing and eager to help. We liked the location as it was walming distance to the beach and the bis was close for easy transport around. Some of the structure was a bit outdated but still sound. There also was the sweetest and most amazing hotel dog named Canella that made you feel safe and watched over, she minds her business but enjoys loves if you initiate. All around id recommend and would use this hotel again.

The wifi is only in the common areas and not in any of the rooms, which is inconvenient, but not a deal breaker. Here’s the thing, I was not impressed by the front door but after you go into the actual courtyard, it’s much nicer than you’d think. The rooms are big and are in decent condition for the age and area. It is very convenient to walk down to the beach and excursions, and not be super high priced because it’s not right on the beach.

Photos showed restaurant and bar in top condition, whereas the bar didn’t appear to have been used in years. The deck portrayed outside chairs for each unit, whereas only 4 chairs appeared on the top deck where our unit was located. The TV didn’t work! There was no refrigerator, not even a coffee maker in the unit.

The hotel is modest and small and that is its appeal. The staff are regular and one can get to know them a bit. The rooms have everything needed and attentive daily housekeeping. The hotel enforces quiet hours (much appreciated). The onsite restaurant is good value. The grounds are very picturesque. The hotel is very pet friendly, providing pet beds and water dishes and lots of grass for the pet. The environment is peaceful. The location is close to stores for groceries, restaurants, and the beach.

The location was what we expected, the grounds and pool were good, the staff was good, housekeeping was pretty good, but many parts of the hotel were a disappointment because of lack of maintenance. Pool side chairs were missing pieces, chairs in the restaurant were not clean, the door on our room was in a poor state, etc, etc. The place has potential but needs some serious attention.

Smoking should only be allowed on the sidewalk by the road, not on the hotel grounds. The smell of cigarette smoke was prevalent and noxious.

This vacation we planned to stay a week and stayed five weeks. It has a beautiful pool and the gardens and turtle pool are amazing. The rooms are spacious and cleaned every day if you want. The staff is always available. Coffee, bottled water and bathroom supplies are attended to everyday. Clean towels are given out every morning. There is a restaurant on the property which serves delicious meals. We will be returning again for several weeks.

The village and the beach are just a short walk with more beaches and the city a short bus ride away.

The cleaning lady is fantastic. She changes the bed linens, sweeps and mops the floors. She changes out the towels every day and provides bottled water and coffee daily. Soap, shampoo and body lotion provided. There are two bedrooms, living area and dining and kitchen. Air conditioning and smart tv in the units. I’m loving it. Our two week vacation has turned into six weeks. The pool is magnificent.

Misamaloya is in the south end of the bay on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta. Definitely a more relaxed local feel the being in Puerto Vallarta. The property is beautiful. There is a turtle and fish pool with a little bridge you can walk across. The main pool is huge . There is a children’s pool and a jacuzzi for adults only. The landscaping and the surroundings are amazing. The river is something to see with its wood bridge you can walk across. It is a short walk to the main road where you can get the public bus going to downtown Puerto Vallarta. The trip is about 30 minutes passing the beaches. It is a lovely trip. The rooms are clean the cleaning woman comes every day. Everyone is friendly. I have two schnauzers and we paid a one time fee. We were coming for a week, this is our fourth week and we are thinking of another week or two. We love it

I liked that the room was clean and attended to nicely, but the condition of the building was of concern. The pool looked a bit moldy and the pond at the entrance wreaked horribly.

This property is next to the river surrounded by beautiful trees. It is walkable to the beach. There are boats to take you to other islands or for a few hours snorkelling. It’s amazing. We have extended our visit three times. And dogs friendly. One price regardless of days booked. We are living it. The staff is very accommodating and friendly.

This is an older hotel, rooms are tiny. Pool has seen better days. No elevator in the premises and the parking is on the street, it can be hard to park on weekends.
The garden is beautiful, and it is a breeze to walk to the beach. And it has a pharmacy right outside as well as an small convenience store.

Every year we stay at Casa Iguana for a month we love it there its such a beautiful place that staff and house cleaners are so nice and accommodating the hotel restaurant is really great too. It’s quiet and relaxing Canela the hotel dog is so sweet. We will miss her. See you next year.

Casual, quant hotel for budget savvy travel

Absolutely love this quant hotel.
It's getting older but the people and town of Mismaloya are awesome.
Not far from the city (Puerto Vallarta) if you need some excitement but I love the casual laid back feel of Casa Iguana.
You can't beat the price either♥️

The casa iguana was very comfortable, practical appartement with a small kitchen , and a living room.
The pool is beautiful and the property very well maintain.
The only thing I find very unfortunate is that I believe guest should have access to big gallons of water , to limit the amount of plastic bottles that end up being thrown away everyday.
In thes days, there is sufficient awareness on being more conscious about not creating tons of plastic garbage..
Other than that, casa iguana is a very good place to spend a relaxing confortable time.

I really enjoyed the setting for the hotel. The lush jungle/mountain area is so relaxing and inviting. The hotel itself was enjoyable, Room was always clean and well maintained during my week stay there.
Convenient bus service into PVR and really enjoyed walking across the bridge in front of the hotel and following the river for a bit.

Who knew a OXXO would be there...HAhaha

The hotel needs to feature itself better, Did not realize until half way through my stay that it had a functioning restaurant. Always walked down to the beach for dinner or in the morning took a bus and had breakfast at the Pancake house.

i stayed for 2 weeks with my well behaved dog. in feb-2025 i felt very safe in the hotel and surrounding area. short 10 min walk to a beautiful beach. room that i had was dog friendly and large .2 bedroom with kitchenette and living room. it had good ac but i rarely used it. strong hot showers. semiprivate balconies for each room. staff was very friendly and helpful. pool and hottub looked beautiful

Nice little boutique hotel just on the other side of the main road. Once you cross you can walk 5 mins to beach area with lots of bars and restaurants. Nice size, clean and cmfortable rooms. The area around the hotel. is a very old little rundown town.
OXXO, (convenance store) right attached to Hotel. Positive is just up the street area about 4 Tequila making plants that welcome you for tastings.

I really enjoyed the location where we were at and it was just walking distance right to the beach. The best thing at night with the lights lit up. Being in the jungle was just absolutely beautiful. And if you get an opportunity to go to the zoo and pet, the cubs was absolutely a great experience.

Did not like the moldy and poor condition of the rooms, old kitchen supplies .grimy fan blades, leaky shower, worn upholstery, patio tables and chairs in the same disrepair for the past 3 years, disintegrating bath room vanity cupboards, poor wifi connection and no complimentary breakfast.

The only nice area was the pool, although cold and the hot tub was also cold and not heated.
The rooms are extremely run down with broken chairs, stained chipped coffee cups, burned chipped teflon pans, broken lamp, rusty dented dining centre chairs, old raggedy towels.

The staff were wonderful. The hotel is clean but needs improvements aesthetically. Outdated. Could be more accommodating with proper kitchen cooking ware.

Very convenient for hopping on the bus to PV and Boca. Important BUG SPRAY in this area.

Our biggest perk is the ability to take a two-block hike from the hotel, walking on stone-paved roads beeming with cozy little restaurants, to stand in front of the magnificence of the Pacific Ocean and its particularly beautiful waters. Our family-owned boutique hotel holds to a traditional Mexican motif without elevators or handicap service ramps.

Although we do maintain two suites at the ground level, the remainder of the hotel (including the lobby and pool areas) is only accessible via stairwell. For that reason, we don't recommend Hotel Amaca for our guests with reduced mobility, although we're of course happy to make accommodations as possible.
