We loved our stay at Alohilani! We could see the ocean from our balcony which was a lovely sight every morning. The staff were friendly and helpful all around. Also enjoyed the pool and bar area. Only sad thing was that the cabanas were too expensive to rent so sadly we couldn't enjoy them.

First time staying here and can I just say how much I loved it! Came for my birthday trip with my sister & mom, we all had the best time. Have to give a shoutout to Ben who was the best floor attendant ever! He was so kind and even wrote out stuff for my family and I to do! Will definitely be back! 10/10

I wish someone mentioned the swell deck scenario upon check in, we shouldn’t have had to be surprised a the restaurant that you have to pre register to simply eat breakfast. My other suggestion is to update the bathroom doors to barn sliding doors, the doors completely don’t work with the bathrooms, it’s the tightest bathroom I’ve seen in a while and changing the doors would significantly help, for the bathroom alone I wouldn’t stay again . Stunning property otherwise , view was 10/10, loved the location.

“We enjoyed our stay overall. The hotel was very clean, comfortable, and conveniently located close to all amenities. Most of the concierge staff were excellent—friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay.
However, our checkout experience was disappointing. The staff member assisting us spoke very quietly, making it difficult to understand, and avoided eye contact, which came across as dismissive. It left us feeling uncomfortable and was not the level of service we experienced from the rest of the team.
With more consistent communication and attentiveness during checkout, this would have been a perfect stay.”

The location of this hotel is amazing and the pool area is great. I also want to preface this review by saying that the staff took any concerns we had seriously and were as accommodating as they could be.

This hotel has a serious Mold issue that we experienced in 3 different rooms. The first room had Mold all over the ceiling above the bed. The 2nd room was 7 floors below that one but shared a wall with the previous room and also has black Mold in the corner of the ceiling. We were feeling really uncomfortable with this and asked to move an additional time. This room looked better at a glance and was also more updated. However, there was a musty smell in this room and the entire 3rd floor that was hard to get over. At a glance the Mold issue was better but it was all over the curtains, hangers in the closet and the front of the AC vent. At this point we just vent and got a bunch of glade air fresher plug ins and gave up.

I really would love to recommend this hotel for the location, amenities and staff but both of us left the hotel feeling sick. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone with respiratory issues or asthma. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in humid locations and have never experienced mold like this.

In my opinion, this is more of a 3 star hotel. It’s definitely no where close to a 5 star hotel.

Pros:

- Location (10/10): One minute walking distance from the water, and close to anything you would want (food, etc.)

- Fitness Centre (9/10): Large with lots of Equipment.

- Staff (9/10): Except for a couple of staff, everyone we saw and dealt with was very friendly and helpful.

Cons:

- Shower and washroom area (3/10): very small and old. Not on par with the rest of the hotel.

- Breakfast (4/10): Very repetitive (except for the rotation between bacon, and two types of sausages both of which were less than tasty) and very unappealing food. They had good fruits but as far as what you can eat for breakfast, left a lot to be desired (none of my family could even eat their scrambled eggs).

Summary:

The location by itself makes it an easy decision for me to go back there but there are some easy fixes to make this a very very good hotel.

I was a solo traveler. This first night they gave me two queen beds with a city view. I booked a king with a Mountain View. I was very disappointed because I booked months before. They made it right by giving me $100 resort credit, free breakfast and changing my room to the one I booked the next night for the next 5 nights. It threw me off a little because I wasn’t able to unpack the first night, but overall a great experience. Beautiful resort. Room service fast, smooth and hot. Very great experience for the first time in Hawaii.

This was our second time staying here, and we love this place. The rooms are always nice, the pool and hot tub area are clean, and we love that the beach is across the street. The first time we stayed toward the city side, and this time we stayed on the mountain side. We actually enjoyed both views. We stayed for over 10 days both times and enjoyed every minute.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this stay was genuinely disappointing. The property looked nothing like the photos online — it felt more like a rundown motel than a star-rated hotel.

The room was in poor condition: chipped and worn furniture, visible stains on the lamps and sofa, and even signs of leaks in the ceiling. It didn’t feel clean or well-maintained, which made it really uncomfortable to stay.

The bathroom layout was also extremely impractical — the toilet was squeezed right between the sink and the tub, leaving almost no space to stand or move comfortably.

We ended up checking out after just one night and moving to a different resort, which is not something we’ve ever had to do before.

Overall, this was a huge letdown and not at all what was advertised. I would strongly recommend that others look elsewhere unless significant improvements are made.

Best stay in Waikiki ever. The room was well kept, room service was on point making sure to clean up and restock daily. My favorite experience was the lounge area which includes a nice little bar, hot tub, lounge furniture and the infinity pool. Kid friendly and clean just the way I like it. Beach was right across the street and McDonalds on the corner across the street. Perfect for a quick bite. Food trucks around the corner and just a beautiful place to stay. We’ll be back next year. It was a nice hotel. I made the mistake of thinking it was in the beach. But it was right across. There was a prom event where I was told 500 people attended. Not sure if that number was right but the garage was full and had to valet. It was so busy that it took 30 mins to get to the hotel…from 3 blocks away. Wish they would have warned guests.

This is a terrible hotel. It is not on the beach. You have to use a QR code and get beach chairs from a neighboring hotel and carry it to the beach yourself: there are no hotel beach chairs. Rooms are much smaller than noted. They are not near 300 sq ft but more like 150. Closer to a 3 star then a 5 star

My stay let me know this was a good choice. Everything was in walking distance including the beach and restaurants. Bring cash for tips because no Bank of America, Navy Federal or common banks in the area. Highly recommend this location for staying.

Great staff, beautiful property! We had a great time here, the lobby is incredible. The gym could use some improvements (very small and can’t really get more than 7-10 people in there) and the pool/ hottub area (while SO pretty and well decorated) could use some more upkeep in my opinion. Our shower was also not the cleanest when we arrived. Would still come back!

Lovely hotel but busy with families with kids, the storms impacted our use of the outdoor facilities in the hotel so only got to swim once . We had a classic king room on the 7th floor in the first building and could see Waikiki beach from the balcony which was nice. Negatives about the room would be rubbish trucks emptying the bins at 4:30 am, construction across the road and the bathroom needs an extractor fan as the bathroom steamed up and hallway carpet felt damp . We did get bitten in bed from something so asked the Cleaning staff to spray our bed on the second to last night. Overall it was good, convenient to walk to the shops, lovely aquarium in the hotel lobby bar and ABC store on the ground floor.

The room wasn’t clean properly and didn’t provide the same number of towels and robes. Front desk concierge never answer the phone. Elevators takes for ever. Walls are paper thin. The coffee pods were disappointing, and ongoing construction prevented us from relaxing. This wouldn’t earn a 5-star rating in other countries. The room was not what I had book for and they said because was book with 3rd party. Had to pay extra 1k plus to get a view.

This resort consists of two very old hotels that were joined by a beautiful lobby, gym and pool deck. Those areas are first class. The staff was also fantastic for the most part.
The rooms, however, are the worst I have ever stayed in! The musty smell hits you on every floor when you step off the elevator. The hallways have visible mold and mildew on the walls. The rooms are very damp (our books and passports got warped!) and sound from the street is extremely loud. If you stay here do NOT get a room facing the street that McDonald’s is on. Constant loud music and yelling at all hours. We had to change rooms after the first two days as we couldn’t turn on the AC without a horrible musty smell coming from it. Our second room was only slightly better smelling. We avoided our room as it was so uncomfortable. This “resort” was not worth the money.

Windows in our room leaked, the put a towel in it. We finally removed it when it started smelling musty. My husband fell off the platform out front, it took forever to get someone to help. Front desk employee who was just leaving work came over to help. She had to call repeatedly for someone to come assist us. They took a report gave him an ice pack and a band-aid. No further communication to check on him. Sliding door was hard to lock, kept blowing open during the storm. Not enough chairs by the pool, pool was cold. Other pool was closed. No special pool for adults only. I could go on with more but will just say, I will not stay there again.

Property was located in a convenient location. Hotel ran out of beach and pool towels on one occasion. Clean rooms but bathrooms could use some updating. Ceiling in bathrooms stained and need to be painted. We were on the 18th floor facing diamond head with partial ocean view. View was nice but when you open the sliding door all you can hear are the air conditioning units or generators from other hotels. Sliding door to balcony was difficult to open and close.

Outside was terrible and continuous rain and wind storms. Even with all that, the pool and hot tub outside on the 5th floor were really nice. We had to spend a lot of time in the lobby after checkout because of excursions being close because of the weather, beach condition, flight being delayed; actually a very nice lobby to hang out with the aquarium, the bar, roominess, and all the nice people. No problem with our room, parking, check in/out. Great staff everywhere.
Whenever the stormy weather let, the entire city seemed to empty out onto the beach, then run back to their hotels when it returned.

I stayed here for a convention and was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the hotel. The rooms were great. Very comfy. Nice beds. We also got a cabana and stayed on their pool deck all day for my birthday and had so much fun. They have live DJs & live musicians. Either is playing every day/night outside. Makes for a great atmosphere. The hotel also has an ABC store that is attached. Super convenient for booze, snacks, souvenirs. Hotel is right where you want to stay, just not beach front. Right across the street though!

We picked this property because it was located by the beach and shops. Lobby and exterior looks grande but thats as far as the luxury look goes. Front desk doesnt really go over things when checking in just tells you to scan a qr code to find out things. Which we had NO internet in our room for the whole 7 days. Had complained several days only to be told that it could be the weather. We thought ok it was railny the 1st 2 days but then was clear all the other days. Our friends stayed 1 block from us at the Hyatt and had no internet issues. The hotel kept giving us different network names and passwords but they still didnt work. We had to sit in the lobby everyday just to connect. One day an alarm went off and we sat for 20 min. wondering what to do before anyone made any annoucement. Then on another day due to bad weather the hotel lost power for 3-4 hours but we did not get any alarms, room checks or notifications on what to do. Expedia sent me a 20% off food at the hotel which list the Swell rest. was located on the 5th floor. I ordered breakfast 2 days in a row on the 1st floor and did not present the letter for 20% off because it was not on the 5th floor only to find out on the 3rd day that the hotel moved the rest. from the 5th floor to 1st floor and did noty put signage to alert the guest. When I mentioned that I want my 20% I had to request to speak to the managers on several days and for one person to pass me on each day to a different manager. Only resolved after 5 d

Laundry service was very expensive eg. $8 for a pair of socks, $11 for a t-shirt.
The Mountain View was good although you could still see all other buildings, a car park.
We had to move rooms twice due to poor air conditioning (no heating during a storm), damp smell, noisy construction work right above on the balconies that was not advertised or a warning issued. The carpet was filthy (white socks dirty in minutes). Extractor fan in bathroom did not work either. Rooms are in bad need of an update. TV did not work either and remote was even worse.
Staff were accommodating and sorry but the facilities were letting them down.

We really enjoyed all the restaurants that were part of the hotel and had several delicious meals. The location was great right across the street from the beach and lots of other restaurants and shops. I would recommend bringing earplugs if you're sensitive to noise as Waikiki along the main strip is noisy at night.
