Unique and friendly boutique hotel

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely boutique hotel within walking distance of most major museums. Casa Howard was very clean, and the breakfast-to-order served to the room every morning was extraordinary. We had 2 rooms - one with a lovely little balcony. Our room had a large bathroom with a shower. The second room only had a large bathtub with a handheld shower. We were traveling with an older family member and it was very difficult for him to get in and out of the bathtub. Otherwise we loved the hotel and especially appreciated the great suggestions and assistance from the concierge. They arranged taxis, recommended restaurants, and were happy to chat. We felt well looked-after. We will be back!

We stayed in the Double Zebra Room and it was honestly one of the most beautifully designed rooms. Super clean, spacious, and full of personality. Breakfast in bed was a lovely touch - arrived right on time and really good. I also loved that they use Officina Profumo toiletries, such a nice detail. Overall, a really special stay in Florence.

Casa Howard truly exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Firstly, the convenient location made exploring the city a breeze. Easy walk to the Uffizi and Duomo!

The hotel's beautiful decor created a charming ambiance, and the unique room designs added a touch of character. We ended up upgrading our room halfway thru our weeklong stay to try out another room with a tub.

However, what truly stood out was the incredibly helpful staff, who went above and beyond to ensure my comfort throughout my visit. I highly recommend Casa Howard to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable stay in Florence.

We stayed 4 nights at Casa Howard. The property is conveniently located in the heart of the historic center with easy walking access to all the main attractions. We stayed in the camel room and it was fairly spacious. Our main concerns was that we had a leaking AC unit that was not fixed and so we had to lay a towel on the ground to soak up the water everyday. It also made a loud dripping sound that echoed in the room at night making it difficult for any light sleeper. It is also very loud in the morning due to breakfast service, so if you like to sleep in you’ll be woken up at 8-9am everyday. We didn’t try any of the food on their in-house menu but it looked good. Overall, the location was the best part of the stay and I would check out other neighbouring options before rebooking here. It is also worth noting that none of the rooms have a safe, so if you have valuables that you’d prefer to store in a safe while you’re gone that won’t be possible. If you have a car, parking is offsite but very close by (3 min walk).

Booked this last minute from a flight cancellation. The staff was great and very accomodating with recommendations and stowing our luggage long after check-out. The room itself was so-so: had a smell, air conditioner made the room humid, no hand towells, and missing outlets left open for some reason. Rated a 4 star online, but in Italy all 4's are really 3's. All-in-all, it served it's purpose and was close to the train station. ✌️

Beautiful and unique boutique guest house, run by a family. Absolutely wow bedroom - the \"drawing room\" - one of the suites. Only niggle is that this is a first floor room overlooking the main street, above the entrance to the property and beside the reception area - so it does get quite a bit of disturbance, esp if other guests are not quiet as they come and go. Cannot be helped. But still blown away by the room. Attention to detail and artistic flair throughout Case Howard. Lovely breakfast. Staff very helpful. Delicious supper club style dinner by arrangement with the owner - who is the chef! Loved it! Would recommend.

Christy, bent over backwards to reserve tickets for museums in Florence prior to our arrival. Looked into an opera, La Traviata which was showing in Florence whilst we there and sent us the link to enable us to book tickets. Nothing was too much trouble. The Fireplaces suite room was quirky but beautifully decorated, it was light and airy and spacious and tea & coffee facilities were available in the room. The bathroom was beautiful too. Casa Howard was conveniently located, close to Unica Tram Stop which is at the end of the line - 10 mins walk max and takes you within steps of the airport entrance for a mere Euros 1.50. As for Florence, it is simply like stepping into a museum - amazing.

Great location, minutes walk from the train station. Breakfast was taken to the room which was really nice. All the rooms have different configurations and they were able to accommodate us in a room with a stand-up shower and not all rooms have one. The staff are very helpful and nice.

What an amazing experience! Creatively decorated rooms - each lovelier than the other. Welcomed by fabulous staff as well as owner - lots of information and recommendations. Breakfast served in your room at your desired time. Owner has opened a tiny restaurant for a very interesting experience - if you have time and he has space -- do it.

The hotel staff worked very hard to find us another hotel in the area, even assisting with luggage and speaking directly to the other hotel's staff in person. Casa Howard electric vibe wins!

Love this space.... the trim was so eclectic and my room reminded me of an upper west side apartment. The breakfast service was great the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only down fall is the WiFi was not the best. WiFi is a necessity when traveling from another country it keeps us informed and knowledgeable with our surroundings. Pleaseeeee look into a better WIFI. The place was still my favorite hotel from my travels in Italy.

It was the worst room I have ever stayed in. It looked like straight out of a horror movie. The room I booked with a court yard view was given to someone else so after calling hotel.com the staff agreed to upgrade. They put us in the creepiest room ever! A rock climbing wall a creepy teddy bear old books, very strange pictures on the wall. I would never recommend anyone stay there

What a beautiful hotel! Casa Howard is in a great situation - so close to the train station and yet it seems far removed from the hassle of the crowds of travellers. Cristina is an excellent host, very well-informed and professional, yet relaxed and easy-going. I think that our room must be the most beautiful we have ever stayed in, and we are frequent travellers. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a hotel with a sense of individuality and wonderful design.

The place was a little dark, dingy, smelly, and scary. The staff during check-in were very nice, helpful, and responsive. But I wasn't sure if anyone was around \"after hours.\" Not a typical hotel stay. I guess the experience was commensurate with the low cost.

A true private guesthouse! You feel you're home. The staff are helpful and speak fluent English. The room is very comfortable and spacious. You get your own key to the building and room; so very private. I love enjoying breakfast in bed :)

Loved our stay at Casa Howard. No, it's not the quietest place and you can hear taps from other rooms occasionally, but if you're not a light sleeper, this place is great. The ladies running the place are super nice. Breakfast is served in your room at whatever time you like, and the location is fantastic, especially if you're coming/going by train. There's a fantastic restaurant just down the street that serves the freshest pasta, as well!

Hard to find/funky smell!!

The pictures that you see on hotel.com are nothing like the place. We stayed in the garden room and to get tho said room, you go thru a sitting area, this area has a nasty, horrible smell. The room is tiny, the decor is very odd. The bed was comfortable but there was mosquitos in our room. breakfast is served in your room. Location is good and the staff was very nice.

Great Hidden Gem

Absolutely incredible place. You'd never know it was a hotel from the street - just a big wooden door. But if you get to stay on the ground floor, especially the studio, it's a two-storey apartment with a huge bathroom and claw-foot bathtub. You can also walk out to a private courtyard where your included breakfast is served. Steps from the main railway station and walkable to all major attractions in Florence.

Amazing Almost Hidden Gem

Wonderful boutique style hotel steps from the main train station and walking distance to all major attractions in Florence. We had two rooms, both on the ground floor and they were like a private apartment, with a private courtyard where they'd deliver breakfast each morning. Highly recommend it.

The hotel entrance was a bit confusing, there was no clear signage telling us to go to the first floor to check-in. The woman who checked us in was not the friendliest but overall checking-in was an OK experience. The room is great, we had the studio room. It had a beautiful terrace and was very nice. The lighting was a little dim for my liking. The place was decorated beautifully especially the bathroom, the only downside was the tub in the bathroom, it was elegant and nice but was a bath that did not have a shower head (that you didn't have to hold).

I really loved this place. The service was friendly and prompt. The room was adorable and clean. I loved the access to the patio/garden area off of my down stairs room. The AC was very cool and efficient, the wifi worked great, and the common area living room was very cozy. I feel like I got a good value for the money, under $100/night in Florence, great safe locate, close to everything, in the height of season. The only issue I have is this. If you are advertising that you can watch movies in the common room, have the equipment hooked up so people can use it, or mention at check in, \"If you would like to watch movies, please let us know so we can hook up the equipment for you\". If you adverse on hotels.com that you have a rooftop terrace, people expect that they will be able to use it, not that it is private for 1 room only. think people feel a little cheated or let down when they don't get what they are led to believe they are getting.

Great enough to seek of Casa Howard locations

My girlfriend and I arrived well past check-in time and the staff were fantastic with getting us situated. After a long drive from Venice, the beautiful room, shower and accommodations were a welcome comfort.

We enjoyed our initial stay so much, we booked an additional night and we're out in the downstairs loft that was one of the best places I've stayed anywher.. The downstairs loft had a claw foot bathtub wit amazing bubble bath soap that can be bought from a renowned apothecary not from the guest house (we picked some up and it retailed for about $25 USD).

The staff and accommodations made the stay an incredible value, and truly made our time in Florence better.

We were told they also have a location in Rome, which we will definitely look into.

Converted rooms in an old building - not a \"hotel\". Very small elevator - not good if you have much luggage to haul up and down. Staff very pleasant. To get into the bathroom you had to step up - very dangerous at night if you forgot, because it was approximately an eight inch drop. There were supposed to be TWO beds in our room - there were not. There was a sofa that they put sheets on for a bed. Thank goodness the person that slept there was small.

I am conflicted over how many stars to give this hotel. It met all of our requirements and the staff were INCREDIBLY hospitable and accommodating. But, the pictures on the website overstate the quality of the condition and appointments in the hotel. Units were fashioned out of existing rooms in an old grand house. Some of the work was sloppily done. We booked with the understanding that the room was accommodate a third, our teenage daughter. The \"sofa bed\" was not a true sofa bed. The amenities are oversold. After reviewing the website we were under the impression that the hotel had onsite laundry facilities for guest. When we enquired, We were told no. Bottom line: Would I stay here again? Yes. It's a convenient location to the Train station and a rental car office. The room is spacious. And, again, the staff is wonderful.

Make sure you know what you are booking!

The pictures are not accurate. We booked the garden room. It was small and not worth the money. We saw the suite that was connected by a family room since it was open (I have no idea why). That room was nice. If you are going to stay here is should be in the suite. Otherwise- don't bother.

Disappointing stay

This was surprisingly disappointing as I had booked based on some positive reviews I saw for this hotel.

We had an extra bed request that would not be accommodated for and we were being unnecessarily charged 30 Euros for the extra bed request we originally put in when we booked. If I had been contacted by the hotel the after my booking went through, I could have made better accommodations. However, I wasn’t told until I got to the guesthouse and a woman was rudely snapping at me and telling me that we couldn’t stay in the terrace room we had originally booked. I asked to speak to a manager and she refused to let me talk to him, saying “he won’t talk to you”. She refused to give me her name or talk to anyone that could give us proper customer service.

Eventually given another room with an extra bed, but the rudeness of the lady turned me off from the guesthouse and felt downright insulting. Entire building had a smell about it, too. Room were cold. Only positive is that it's about 10 min walk from the train station. Not worth a stay if you're looking for a decent guest-house/b&b experience,

Never planning on going near this hotel again.

Small cozy place, clean and comfortable. Good location close to train station, next to store Santa Maria Novella, 10 min foot distance from the main center. I had a quiet room on the ground floor, giving to inner court yard. perfect for a short stay where most of the time visiting the city. Price for the days I was there was amazing for a city like Florence and the quality and good taste of the place.

Be sure to arrive within their timeline!

We were on our honeymoon and doing some sight seeing, so we took some extra time in pompeii, and consequently our drive to florence took longer than anticipated. We ended up arriving at the hotel around 7am the morning after our intended arrival date. We were promptly met with a bad attitude asking why we didn't call them and let them know we would be late. Apart from not having a phone to use while in italy, I've never thought it to be necessary to have a designated arrival time for a service I'm paying for.

Read the booking notes. If you want to check in outside of the 2pm-8 pm window it could cost you an extra 100 euros.

The room was nice, the bed kind of hard, and The wifi service didn't reach the room.

I will seek out different hotel accommodations for my next trip to florence.

The photo and descriptions of the hotel on the advertised web page are misleading, the place is very dirty, you can't use the shower as it's tiny and very dirty. We stayed one night and next morning when packing my luggage there was a spider over my luggage, I had to leave the place first thing in the morning as thus was worse place I ever stayed at.

Buyer Beware. I would advise all potential customers to avoid this hotel. The room pictures on expedia did not match the room that we actually stayed in and the customer service was a terrible. The room was very dated, with old elephant wallpaper and random VHS movies on the bookshelf in the bedroom, and the remains of a rock climbing wall in the main living space. The carpet was old and had a musty smell which filled the air of the entire hotel room. The front desk attendant was very disorganized and he was very hard to get in touch with. On the day of we were informed by email that there is a late policy where you would be charged at least 100 euros if you do not notify the hotel that you will be checking in after 7pm. Very convenient for guest who are traveling and may have limited access to a phone or the internet. My guess is that the front desk attendant is not always at the hotel in the evening because when we arrived to check in we couldn't get into the property or reach him. Also when we returned to pick up our bags the following day around 7:30pm (he held them for us after we checked out) we had to wait 15-20min for him to return from who knows where. Overall I was very disappointed by the service, the hotel check in policy, and the appearance of the entire facility. SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!!!

Great Overall Experience

We stayed 2 nights in Casa Howard, and we had a nice time there. It is quite hard to find the hotel as it didn't have any signage that you can see from afar. The building itself is quite old, (old style elevator), but it is still clean. The room is spacy, and the internet works fine in the room. Good location to the city center and very close to the train station.

Cozy Hotel

The apartment is about 10 mins walk from the railway station. There were many restaurants, supermarket, minimarts and laundry shop around the apartment. The apartment exterior was old but surprisingly, the interior was clean and neat. The apartment room was clean and spacious. And each room had its own design. The staff were very helpful and generally able to communicate in English. The hotel also provides free WiFi in the room.

2 nights at Florence

The guesthouse was near the main train station...turn right when you reached the end of the platform...then turn left and cross over to the other side of the road and turn right...as you continue walking you will probably see or hear people playing games (basketball or volleyball) indoor...at the end of the road turn left at Dia vella Scala and continue to walk approx 50m and you will find the guesthouse. Didnt give rating till 5 coz in the playroom we stayed there were too many cushions lying on the floor which could have been the reason for mosquitoes during springtime...didnt sleep well on the first night but there were bais for us to use hence 2nd night was fine. Nespresso was not replenished and when requested they said had not bought and will buy later but we would have checked out. Overall the stay was good despite the above mentioned...the reception was helpful too...a very nice restaurant when you continue walking and turn right into the first lane (via del porcellana)...continue in this lane you will bypass a restaurant at the small cross junction but continue walking till you see a small restaurant (Trattoria Sostanza) on yourleft...may try your luck if u did not make a reservation. ..the guest house reception can assist you to make one.

A little disappointed

When I reserved this room I saw nice size rooms in the pictures posted, but arrived and was told I reserved the Hidden Room. It was only about a 10 x 10 room with the shower and sunken tub right next to the bed. We were climbing ver top of each other and our luggage, the TV remote did not work, but the sweet couple running the place came at 10 PM and fixed it after about a half hour of being in our cramped room with us.....AWKWARD! In addition, I ordered breakfast but it never arrived. Breakfast is served in your room....they could not find my breakfast order. Sweet people but not real organized and room rediculously small.

Every rooms has different therms, which is nice, if the a/c, wifi and tv works properly. The hotel manager/ front desk/ cleaning lady/ room service, a Filipino lady, was very friendly and helpful. I don't like the location and the house # is very small. You will miss it if you blink. Will not return

A Lesson in Doing Your Homework

Let me preface what I am about to say by letting you know that I did not necessarily have a bad time here, but I did get a completely different experience than what I was expecting. I read only a few reviews and looked briefly at their website. I thought, for the price and location, and based on the good reviews I read, that it would be perfect. And by no means was the CHGH flawed in any way, it was just a complete surprise. Here are the facts:
This is NOT a hotel. It is more like a themed bed and breakfast.
The \"Play Room\" has a rock wall (awesome) and pictures of clowns on the wall of the bedroom (alarming).
All the rooms have a theme.
It is perfectly clean and comfortable (once you take the pictures that make you uncomfortable off the wall and stow them safely away in the corner, facing the wall)
Best shower I have ever used in Italy.

Think that sums it up. Just make sure you know what you're getting into when you walk in to the Casa Howard. They are friendly and super accomodating, but it is a different kind of experience. The location is amazing though, and they even have bottles of wine available for purchase on every floor. Drink up!

Our favorite place we stayed!

Casa Howard is a delight! The proprietors were so friendly and helpful and our room was drop-dead gorgeous. After staying in hotel rooms where my husband and I were squished we had a beautiful spacious room with two beds (the drawing room). Love how it's personal and truly a guest house; however it felt very private and we didn't even see any of the other guests while we were there. Our favorite thing about Florence was staying at Casa Howard! Highly recommend!!!

Very convenient for all the sights in Florence and the railway station. Very quiet. We were made to feel very welcome and the facilities and room were fine. Only criticisms were that there was no lift to the floor we were stopping on and I got badly bitten by mosquitos first night because the anti mosquito equipment had not been refilled and switched on.
