The hotel was built in 1958 and that’s how it felt, old dated, and beat up. The grounds were just okay. The pool area ok - nothing spectacular or special about the property really. The breakfast food at Caña was nice the lunch at the pool area below average. We paid $1,000 / night for ocean view room which was large but just sooo dated. The best part of the property was the gym which felt nice with good equipment but crowded most of the day.

Overall, the feeling was that we totally overpaid for what we’ve received. Definitely not coming back.

The hotel is darky, dingy and smells horrible. Needs to completely be redone. The staff is aware and has stopped caring. It’s awful and definitely not worth the price tag.

The lobby bar was incredible. They had 2 pools that were very nice with pool attendants that didn't require charges. Beach and chairs were great.
Dining was superior. Onsite shopping was fabulous.

Room was clean, food was good throughout the resort. Our only complaint was the service. We sat at the Italian restaurant for over 2 hours one night waiting for our food and there was no apology. We sat at the restaurant by the pool one night for 15 minutes and no one came to help us.

Rooms were unimpressive. Got a free upgrade to the cabana room and the room was not clean, lighting was malfunctioning, dusty vents, drywall breaking down due to humidity, shower was leaking constantly. I expected more from a supposed 5 star hotel with a high price tag. Service was ok, staff were kind but wait staff at the restaurants take a long time to notice you were seated and serve you even when they were not busy. I personally would not categorize this as a luxury hotel, maybe a premium hotel at best. Pools we’re nice and clean access to the beach location close to airport is ideal for a quick trip but if you plan on staying a week or more I would definitely rather be at the Four seasons (formerly the St Regis).

We have a good stay. The staff at all ends of the hotel have always been excellent; this isn't our first time staying here. The hotel does need some updating as it is getting a bit \"old\". Also, we were not happy with the resort fees and taxes that could have been better explained by Expedia to be honest. Expedia could also do a better job with the airline reservations because we incurred a lot of additional fees for things that we were not aware of with the airline booking. Again, this is a nice hotel, but it is time to give it a facelift. Another restaurant or two wouldnt be a bad idea either.

The entire experience was excellent. I want to particularly mention Mike P. who was our waiter on the first night. He said he didn’t usually work in the restaurant but he did an excellent job explaining the dishes and was very attentive.

Overall stay was great, and the staff was very friendly. My one complaint would be the resort fee. I’ve never seen this at any other hotel, but it appears to be variable based on the room rate (I believe about 20%). As a result, the daily resort fee for my stay including tax was $142…that’s outrageous considering it barely includes anything (no breakfast or parking). I think other hotels in San Juan are similarly outrageous with the resort fees, but I’ve never seen that anywhere else.

We had a great stay at Fairmont El San Juan Hotel and really enjoyed our four-night stay. The staff was friendly, professional, and welcoming, and the hotel has a beautiful atmosphere with well-maintained spaces. Our room was comfortable and clean, and overall service was excellent.

One small suggestion: it would be very helpful if, at check-in, the hotel clearly explained what is included in the resort fee. We later found out it covered several amenities that we were not aware of and unfortunately did not get to use.

Overall, a wonderful experience and we would definitely stay here again.

\"My recent stay had several highlights, including friendly room service and a clean room. However, I would like to highlight areas for improvement:
Room Maintenance: The bathroom door layout is poorly designed. Additionally, as a pet-friendly hotel, a stronger deodorizer for the floors is needed.

Lobby Operations: There is insufficient seating during weekend music events. Staff also cleared full drinks from our table immediately when we stood up to dance, which was frustrating.

Security & Management: Security personnel were unreactive to issues, and management was difficult to reach initially.

Resolution: I am grateful to Lobby Manager Bryan Sotomayor for eventually resolving our drink issue. I recommend better communication between security and the service team to prevent future guest dissatisfaction.\"

The staff did not provide much information about the grounds and where restaurants and amenities where during check in. I saw trash everywhere around the pool and found it hard to spot a trash can, perhaps that’s why. Food and drinks were exuberantly high with not much quality to what you got for your money.

This is a wonderful property with incredible amenities. The service is not up to the level of the property. Some small changes would make a big difference such as teaching the staff to smile and be genuinely welcoming and to upgrade the level of English.

The steakhouse food is extraordinary however it has a discotheque mentality and it is hard to conduct business dinners with the high volume of the music.

Cleanliness is extraordinary.

A great place to stay but the staff needs some training and upgrading.

The staff were friendly, and the lobby was nice, with a bar, an attached casino, and a pleasant pool area. However, the room itself was disappointing. When we checked in, we walked in to find the toilet tank lid removed and water spilled all over the bathroom floor. The room wasn’t very clean overall — we found a bag with empty beer cans behind a chair. The toilet remained broken and leaking throughout our stay, and although maintenance came, they said they didn’t have the part needed to fix it. We also received stained towels on more than one occasion. Overall, the rooms look dated and could really use better lighting and better upkeep.

The room we had booked was a standard 2 queen room and we expected a basic view. I was allocated a complete no view room (we were facing pipes and rooftop). Very poor staff etiquette at the check in and I was quite sure that I was being racially profiled here.

We arrived early and were offered a pool view villa for 100 per night plus tax and fees. We decided to go for the upgrade. Ourdates were 17- 21 of Nov and the room was already $1,541 for the original room which had a supposedly ocean view. The villa was tucked as far away from the pool as you could get on the property with no view whatsoever other than the back of a supply building that had bushes surrounding it to hide the fact that it was there. The nightstand in the room had previously been smashed and glued / repaired back together on one side of the bed. The TV remote worked occasionally. We attempted to call the front desk, maid, and the concierge desk multiple times and got no answer. It just kept ringing and eventually would cut off. The area around the tv and the tv itself was quite dusty so we used a towel to clean it off and eventually that seemed to solve the remote control issue if you aimed it from one side of the bed at an angle. We went to the front desk and I mentioned the non view and it was just shrugged off. They were booked up and we were lucky to get the upgrade offer was what was said. Our housekeeping staff was very good. If we caught them in the hall they would get us more sugar or towels etc. the landscaping staff was friendly too. The main staff in the hotel public areas were not friendly and almost annoyed you were there. Concierge seemed annoyed we needed anything. Better hotels around the area. Little dining options on property.

Lovely setting, great pools, beach, and quick bar/food service. Lobby bartenders were very attentive. Nice having a Starbucks on site, bc not many other easy/less expensive breakfast options. Good central location to get to OSJ, El Yunque and neighborhoods like Condado & Santurce. The hotel rooms are clean and comfortable but definitely no \"extras\" and getting a bit dated. We were in an oceanside villa room. First floor really doesn't have an ocean view due to dunes and a half wall, so had I known that I'd have requested second level. We opted to stay in one of these rooms instead of main hotel (which would have been less $) to avoid some of the lobby noise on the weekends but unfortunately the room next to use hosted a large party after hours which was incredibly loud music and people from about 1-3 am (it was a 2 story suite). Had to call lobby and security 3x. So it's for these reasons that it's not quite a 5 star experience.

Beach and pool areas were nice and well-tended. Valet service was attentive and fast. The hotel seemed understaffed particularly at the front desk area. Our originally reserved and confirmed room was not available at check-in and we were not given an equivalent substitute. Our shower leaked the entire time as well. I probably wouldn’t return to this property.

The lobby and surrounding guest areas look great but the smell that hits you upon walking in is terrible. The maintenance crew is really needs to change all the air filters in the whole building. The pools were sparkling clean and this place would get five stars is they did better with cleaning, including the cabana areas they want you to pay extra for.

We’ve come to this property on three different occasions and the staff, ambience, cleanliness and attention to detail is just top notch. The best of the best is your pool waitress Sheila Mendez, not only is informative, enthusiastic, and very attentive; she is overall amazing she makes our stay that much more enjoyable. We look forward to seeing her every year we go because it is guaranteed that not only she remembers us but she treats us like family which is always a plus.
