I stayed for 4 nights, my room was not made up or cleaned for the duration of my stay.
The room was comfortable and the shower was good.
The restaurant food was good and offered a wide selection of meals.

We stayed here as my wife was having a medical procedure at a nearby clinic. The first room we were given stank of smoke and we were changed to a different room the following day. This room was fine.
I had requested an extra hour (1300) for late checkout which the staff at the desk told me would be no problem.

At 1155 I had a knock on my door and a staff member rudely told me that we needed to leave and didn't believe me when I mentioned our late checkout. I brought this up with the staff at reception and was told that there were lots of staff on and she didn't know about any late checkout.

This marred an otherwise good stay and I would definitely be less likely to recommend this hotel to anyone and I will be warning people about requesting late checkout.

Not worth the money

A very lack luster hotel. Think old outdated Travelodge & you'd be about right. Decor is tatty and the whole place could do with a makeover. The place is mainly used by construction workers who are working nearby. The roof below our room was covered in cigarette ends, a trainer and alcohol bottles so obviously it never gets cleaned.The expresso machine in the room literally had 2 pods. I had to ask for a kettle etc to make tea. No teaspoons just wooden stirrers which bent when you tried to squeeze the teabag out. The beds are awful. Very uncomfortable and slide about on the base when you move. Wouldn't stay here again.

I stayed here for one night, as it was the closest hotel I could find to Kralingse Bos parkrun. Incidentally, it is a 9 minute walk to the entrance to the park, but a 25 minute walk to the start of the parkrun. 12 o'clock check out is a bonus.

The view from the window wasn't great, just various roads, but I wasn't there for the view.

The room was nice, it wouldn't pass a white glove test, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good enough. They only have a coffee machine in the rooms, but happily gave me a travel kettle when asked.

My phone was using a lot of battery and they were happy to print off my boarding pass in case it died before my evening flight. They also leant me their scales to weigh my case and bag.

You can't say fairer than that, customer service at its best.

I didn't eat there, so can't comment on the food.

The pancake house in Kralingse Bos park is a must!

Please DO NOT EAT at this hotel. Hygiene is shocking in the restaurant. Food was over cooked and unappetising. Have nausea the next day. Dirty utensils on table. Floor was covered in hairs and food debris. Complaints about food not taken seriously.

Due to construction on the surrounding roads the hotel was not accessible by road. Even google maps could not provide an alternative route. We did finally get there but had to drive on a sidewalk/ bike path. The hotel should have contacted guests with some alternative.

Great hotel, very attentive and pleasant staff. Room was very clean and nice, beds super comfortable. Washroom was clean and well designed. Main train station is only 20min walk away.

Cons: not convenient to get to due to the construction around it. Not close to any food/restaurants, 15min walk minimum to any food/stores.

Had a good experience, checked in early after asking. Car park can get too full so beware of that, though it is free and there is on the road car parking available down the side so you should still be okay.

Hotel conveniently placed at the outskirts of Rotterdam, only 10 minutes away from centre.
Quiet location with free parking, excellent staff and fantastic room quality with great view.

Highly recommended, and undoubtedly will book this hotel again upon our next visit to Rotterdam!

No wonder 4-stars hotel evaluation is still bad even with fake evaluations as unfriendly staff and bad room service can easily take away the whole stars.
The rooms were unclean and the bids were uncomfortable.
We don’t feel safe, so we didn’t extend our stay.
The hotel is totally not recommended

Good, basic hotel.

Room toilet seat was loose and curtain end was drooping.

Staff friendliness varied. Cleaning and restaurant staff very friendly but lobby staff did not greet or smile.

Sound insulation to traffic noise was excellent, but there's lots of contact sounds. My room was next to the stairwell and the slamming of doors woke me up early every morning.

Also, breakfast is only until 9, so this hotel is not so much for sleeping in late.

The parking lot is fenced and gated, no concern about security. The parking garage was dirty, lots of trash on the ground.

AWESOME PROPERTY!

This was one of the best hotels I ever stayed in in the Netherlands! Life Marie was so informative and kind! I am so happy to have met her and I will recommend people who do not want to stay in Amsterdam to stay at this hotel!!! Also, THE BREAKFAST was delightful! I would certainly stay here again!

It is not an updated building. The room inside is kind of updated compared with the common areas, halls, elevator,( was broken when we stayed, so it would not go down to the ground floor) The free parking is a plus. It is a hotel just to sleep.

Only “flaw” I experienced with property on busy days is that the outdoor smoking area is too close to the front doors so the entry way and front desk area has the lingering smell.

It's a nice hotel. It's kind of out of the way, but has parking. It's currently under construction, once that ends itll be better. Also it's a pain to get in and out of because there are two doors and you have to wait for the first ro open before the second will. It's probably to conserve energy and some probably don't care, but to me, having to wait 30 seconds every time I go in and out is enough to make me want to leave.

Pictures on their site is not all true!

I found this property on cheap tickets website, and stated that they have a decent rating. Well, those ratings must've come from young travelers or folks on super low budget. I don't find this property to be anymore than 2-3 stars rating. The staff doesn't seem to know about any rental cars, bike, or Uber. Kind of hard to find anything around this area. If you walk about 25-30 mins to the right of the property, you'll find some shopping areas, and that's the closest you'll find to anything, like clothing store, food stops, market and other local shops.
The entire hotel was under renovation, the outside needs a lot of maintenance, as it looks like a run down building in the middle of a busy intersection. The room I was in, was a bit ran down, the ceiling has a water damage, the amenities are VERY limited. The only thing that was good, was the breakfast they serve, but even that you have to pay extra, as it doesn't come with the room. The hallway on each floor looks very gloomy and the elevator hall doesn't have any lights, as it gets very dark in the evening hour.
If you have any room maintenance needs, make sure to get your complaint during their working hours, or you'll just end up with the same room or transfer yourself and your belongings to another room they provide. I've provided few pictures for you to see.

Not really suited for business travelers. Getting local transportation is about a 15 minute walk away. Shopping Center also a similar distance. Restaurant and bar very busy most evenings. Service suffered as a result. City Center stay recommended.

Noisy and overall poor.

Arrived in pouring rain, couldn't see intercom to open barrier to car park due to non-existent lighting. Window in room had been left wide open, letting rain into the room. Room was therefore cold and damp, and heating was inoperative. Room on top floor was very noisy overnight due to hotel utilities (boiler, water systems?). The considerable traffic noise would be higher up the list of complaints were it not for the greater problems at this hotel. WIll not consider staying there again.

if you just need a place one night to sleep while traveling by car then it is ok, but the hotel is not a convenient place to stay if yiyli want to explore Rotterdam for a day or two. The breakfast was boring, the room was ok, but nothing more, the staff was nice as is to be expected.

My father and I stayed here for 2 nights on our way to Amsterdam to go to The Hague. Upon arrival, the lady at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. Our room was quite roomy, had a fridge and kettle. We found the beds comfortable amd good curtains that blocked out the sun. Aircon worked well and room was quiet. As another reviewer said, there is very little around the area. The hotel is about a 20 minute easy walk to train which we then took to The Hague to avoid parking costs and issues. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. The breakfast is €14 (a bit more than usual) but there was a good selection of food to choose from and an employee will cook you fresh eggs or omelette. Was nice and enjoyable. I also used the fitness room which is downstairs with clean and working equipment. Would recommend this hotel for price and convenience.

cheerful area! lovely quality hotel!

lovely hotel. lovely area in rotterdam. about 10-15 minute walk to central, the train station, and the alexander shopping centre. which has everything for a spot of shopping.

we made last minute plans to stay here, booked over the phone, arrived and waited to check in at 3pm.
that was all fine, told basic details about service - breakfast, restaurant and bar open till late.

perfect. went to bed straight after check in, after 12 hours of driving through europe,
decided to pop down to the bar for a drink after being told it was open till 11pm.
we went down around 8pm to a very empty bar, with no staff, a lady served us as we asked if were able to get a drink, she said the bar was closed but she would serve us.

this was quite a shame, as it made us feel slightly awkward. anyhow we took the drinks to our room,
so minus no bar permanent bar staff?
all good!

This hotel was generally good on Day 1 and Day 3. Service at breakfast on the second day was somewhere between poor and non-existent. We arrived half an hour before the end of breakfast. We were not greeted, even though there were staff present. No tables were laid, other tables had not been cleared.

Great, simple, hotel in the Alexander area

This hotel, has a bar, a smoking lounge, a breakfast/restaurant area and rooms. Its really that simple. Its modern, the beds are \"OK\", but there are some amenities, small things, in the bathroom that are missing.

My biggest peeve at this hotel, was that breakfast was done and over by 08h45, and the staff were already cleaning the floors. Surely 10h00 would be a better, more appropriate time to close breakfast?

Besides that, the staff were helpful and friendly.

I would stay again!

Funny city tour tax. You don't know it before you arrive. Room is not warm enough even full warm pipe up. Room and bed is wet. Shower not warm too.
Wifi is horrible slow and sometimes lost connection.

The hotel met my expectations apart from the location. You have to have transport or decide to walk to get to the train station because it's about a mile and a half away. If you decide to go shopping be prepared to travel further than the train station.
The hotel is clean but I did find some hair in the towels and on the floor. The staff are friendly and helpful but we'll worth the money. I would definitely go back.

The Pearl of the Occident

We arrived at the Bastian after a miserable stay at one of Rotterdam's less salubrious establishments. The journey from the city centre is long and expensive but well worth it. The receptionist effortlessly switched between melodious Dutch and mellifluous English. After the highly efficient check in procedure we were ushered into our most commodious chambers. The spacious room and the formidable tea and coffe facilities left us in awe, After our grim experience in the city centre. Dazed, we exchanged saccharine compliments before we dozed off into sleep. We enjoyed the hospitality on offer so much that we extended our stay for a further week, which we shall treasure for a long time to come.

This was the second of three Bastion hotels I stayed in while in Holland. The rooms were all clean and had comfortable beds. The one drawback, the price of breakfast was $14. There is a fast food place nearby to get breakfast for about $5.

Perfect for a one night stay

good value for money only complaint is the waterpressure in the sink. Clean, tidy,coffee and tea amendities and almost full time equiped by two front desk employees. To get to the room you have to pass a intermediate door which is also secured by roomkey. So all in all you don't get the idea strangers will be hanging around.

Quick trip, close to what I needed

Room was nice, clean and decent-sized. Dinner in restaurant was okay until I discovered the chicken breast was undercooked. They offered to bring me a new one, but I didn't have time and then they charged me for it! Other than that, it was a nice place to stay.

'twas great for an overnight stay

we stayed for one night, ok at least i did, the other two colleagues spent three nights sans breakfast and they were quite pleased, we needed a place to crash in amsterdam for a conference but as all hotels over there were fully booked or near the 800 euro price tag for three night, rotterdam and bastion did the job with 155 for three nights :) great value for money and would recommend again anytime...

Not what I call a 4 star but ok

Room was dusty and not cleaned very well, there was rubbish under the bed, shower head leaked but we tightened it, the safe did not work because batteries are flat, reported it, still did not work, report again then worked but died at the end of the trip. Room was comfortable enough, would class this as a 2/3 star not a 4 star! If you are not bothered with little jiggly things it was just ok, only just!

Don't Bother unless it's the last place in town!

Location - Business Park, nothing else, you are next to the motorway and there is nothing else around you. The room has no mini bar or fridge, very small room, the restaurant was very ordinary, reception staff also had to be wait staff so service was no good. Breakfast was very basic, very limited range. Had an egg chef but the electric fry pan he was using looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a year. Very disappointed.

Avoid.

The towels have stains... do not look clean...
Also found an empty shower gel tube inside a wrapped towel...
The staff is not friendly and look like they do not enjoy helping out customers...

Too far from the city centre

Reception staff were not as helpful as they could have been and did not go the extra mile like their colleagues in Amsterdam. Were told that city centre was about 5 mins walk to metro and 10 mins by metro. It took 40 mins
